Luckily it hasn't been put to the test with a new lightning strike. It seems to operate correctly as the fault light does detect when wiring hasn't been completed

Well built, but a bit pricey. Good idea to offer some protection for devices without the usual bulk of a surge suppressor. I wouldn't use it to protect a high-end/expensive device but good for most average consumers.

I recently had the opportunity to install the Rocketfish 2-Outlet In-Wall Surge Protector for my wall-mounted TV, and I must say, it was a breeze even for someone like me who is not well-versed in electrical work. It came with pretty basic instructions inside but it’s enough to make sense of things and finish the job. Takes probably less than half an hour for anyone as it’s just the same as swapping wires over from a normal outlet after shutting the power off and needs no other modifications. Biggest benefit I think to this is being able to use this with a wall mounted tv setup that eliminates any other sort of power strips or anything else but still protects like it should. I looked up the ratings and the whole UL deal cause I have no clue if the ratings are good but turns out they were so it gave me the piece of mind here. The wall plate being mounted to the outlet inside the box was however annoying compared to any other ones ive ever dealt with and the fact it has branding was a little strange but I guess it makes sense when showing it off to friends or family as far as your install goes as a branding thing. Though I won’t go on about it as its not being used anywhere I can actually see it though keep this in mind if you plan on this as it stands out. Id say it’s a pretty good deal for the money you pay for this thing and the protection you can count on versus other brands or install types. As such id recommend getting one if your next project is in need and it’s a fit.

Doesn’t fit into any receptacles. We tried all of the outlets. House is 40 years old. What kind of specs does this fit in? Waste of money.

Installation crew could not install. While I explained the area and set up for the TV. The third party crew wasn't even told the TV was to be placed above fireplace much less the type of installation I had requested. So they put the TV on the wall but didn't install this outlet. All the cords are hanging over edge to reach the outlet.

Would have loved to have GFCI also included when working around a kitchen

This is a great option for surge protection if you want to avoid having a surge power strip laying around in the way or a surge outlet block sticking out of your wall. This cleanly and easily replaces a standard 15-amp wall receptacle. The price is very reasonable, too, considering other specialty receptacles at my local home supply store cost quite a bit more. First, I should get a few caveats out of the way. The 1,000 joule protection is probably the very minimum protection I’d want for any of my electronics, but for the price that’s what you get. Next, the blue status light on the receptacle is very, very bright. If you’re installing it in your bedroom or somewhere else you want to keep dark, you may have to put some tape over it. Last, there is a safety precautions insert with the receptable that warns you to have at least 30 feet (10 meters) of wiring between the receptacle and the main electrical service panel. From what I can tell, that wire provides the minimum resistance needed to reduce surge voltage and current to levels that the surge protector can handle safely. I found installation to be very easy. If you haven’t wired a receptacle before, be sure to shut off the breaker and then verify there is no power at the wall. In my case, I then just had the 3 wires to swap from the old one to the new surge protector. The wires were curled around the screws on the old receptacle, so I just straightened them out, trimmed a bit off the ends, and they fit nicely into the new receptacle. Just make sure you tighten the set screws very tight, so they don’t pull loose later. The hardest part was folding all the wires back into the outlet box because the new receptacle does take up more depth in the box. Beyond that, there isn’t much else to do. While the blue light is on, I assume my equipment will be surge protected. If the light goes off and it still has power, then that means it took a hit and I’ll need to replace it. I’ve got a desktop computer and monitor plugged in, so hopefully they’ll be protected for a good long time.

The Rocketfish in-wall surge protector makes wall mounting a super-flat TV very easy and clean without the need for a separate surge protector squished somehow behind your TV. In my bedroom I had a wall outlet already installed behind the TV's mounting bracket, but I had to tilt the TV slightly to slide a small surge protector behind the top of the display. With the Rocketfish in-wall protector, we don't have to deal with those aesthetic sacrifices to have a small amount of surge protection for the display. The surge protector is reasonably compact for what it is and fits snugly within a 1 gang outlet box. If you have a lot of extra cable in there you might need to feed some slack out of the box to be able to fit the surge protector. Fortunately I did not have this problem myself so it was an easy install all the way through. I'd consider this to be a great fit for a few different locations besides TVs, as well. Behind a refrigerator, or on an outlet that has a treadmill plugged in might be good choices where you want decent surge protection but don't necessarily have room for a standalone protector. I briefly considered installing it under the cabinets in my kitchen to protect our coffee and espresso makers before I settled on re-installing the TV. I may be picking a few more up now that I know it will fit properly in my outlet boxes.

This Rocketfish in wall surge protector gives me great peace of mind! We installed in at our ranch house where we spend some weekends and often encounter many power outages. We have an 85inch TV that we just bought and are using this surge protector as the outlet for the TV. Since we are not at the ranch to monitor electrical incidents this is a great product for protection of expensive items. My electrician suggested we plug in into a traditional/ugly surge protector but after doing some research I found this Rocketfish product and love that it is hidden away. We also have our sound bar plugged into the same outlet providing protection for 2 costly items at the same time. My electrician installed the outlet for me and was impressed with the product. We have not had a power outage since install so I can't say for sure it works but it sure has put my mind at ease while we are away. I'm thinking about getting additional ones to use for bedrooms where we have TV's installed. It looks no different than a normal outlet but does a lot more!
