    big annoyance

    Posted .

I was very excited when I brought this charger home, because I was able to use it for both of my laptops. However, a week after I got it, the black casing on the wires started pulling away from the end of the plug, exposing the wire. I figured it was the least that could happen, and just continued to be careful with it. It is now just under 3 months since I purchased it, and it completely stopped working. Thank goodness it's under warranty, and I can take it back and get a new one - otherwise I would be very peeved. It cost way too much money for this to happen to it so soon.

    Effective, if overpriced, product.

This charger offers a solid, reliable replacement charge for many laptop models (mine is a Dell Latitude | D620), but it is very high priced compared to similar generic products. However, two similar generic products I have purchased in the past broke after only months of use, so the extra cost is worth considering. The only notably nice feature is that the charger tip turns at a right angle so it maintains a lower profile next to the side of the laptop, allowing for more comfortable lap use and less cord-bending when using the laptop at irregular angles.

    PIECE OF JUNK

    Posted .

This adapter is not worth the package it came in. I was desperate, as my charger for my Dell had died and this was the only one Best Buy carried. I made sure after I purchased it to go over to the Geek Squad desk and try it out before I left the store. It did seem to fit my laptop and be working. What I didn't realize was that it was only providing power -NOT CHARGING - my battery. This became especially a pain when I realized the plug doesn't fit tight with my laptop (yes, I tried all 9 that were provided, this was the one that came the closest), and since my battery is 100% dead, any time the plug to the adapter slips out, my laptop shuts down. I have ordered the correct one from Dell and am counting the minutes until it arrives, at which time I am 100% returning this one! What a piece of cr*p!

Not worth it unless you have $70 to drop every 6mo

After three cheapie chargers broke, I finally decided to pay the money to get a good one. Now, I'm a college student living on my own with little money to spare usually, so I justified making the investment because...well, I need my laptop. I explained this to the sales associate, and he assured me this would not break. About six months later, I was in Best Buy again because the plastic around the cord by the end that attaches to the head had slipped down and the actual cord was exposed, and it was not charging unless I had it in the exact right position. They exchanged it, no problem. Well yesterday, it stopped charging AGAIN for the exact same reason. I called Best Buy and they said with or without the receipt, they couldn't exchange the same product twice, and suggested I contact the manufacturer. Rocketfish told me that they weren't able to do exchanges, and regardless of how many times it was exchanged, Best Buy could, and had to, take care of it. So now I'm digging around trying to find the receipt I lost when I moved, or find the information so they can look up the receipt. Basically, $70 and the time and effort this is costing me is NOT worth it for this charger, and WHEN I get my money back for this, I am going to another store and getting another brand, because I refuse to spend another $70 on a charger that I don't have for a laptop I need for school.

Was very helpful in a pinch

My previous cable frayed and was unusable. I bought this one and found it pretty easy to use. I was slightly confused with the way the labels on the tips were labeled, but I got it figured out. So far, the product has been working perfectly. Even though I'm generally satisfied with the charging cable, I found it overpriced. I don't need a universal set, so I ended up buying more than I needed, which I think contributed to the poor sense of value.

My Toshiba's charger died on me recently and thus a trip to Best Buy was in order. I asked Geek Squad to make sure that my charger was really dead. They did just that and directed me to where they keep the replacements. A Sale's Rep approached me and then recommended this charger. It was one of the cheaper models (though I was still bent outta shape about paying so much for a charger) and it came with a recommendation so I went for it. I brought it home and popped on the proper adapter. First thing I noticed was that this charger is a bit shorter than my original. In my home, I sit far enough away from the nearest outlet that it was most definitely noticeable. Not a deal breaker, but irksome. It also does no charge quite as quickly as my original charger, but it does get the job done without hassle. The rest of this review is positive. No connection problems, the high number of adapters means that it could last me awhile, and it does not heat up excessively. I cannot say that this is the best charger on the market (my original Toshiba gave me no problems until it died, a surprise occurrence considering my great experience with Toshiba), but it has served me well since I bought it.

    Breaks Very Easily

I have literally replaced this cord twice and I'm about replace it for the third time. The only reason I keep replacing them instead of getting a different cord is because it's free. The first and second cord lasted 3 months each the third lasted two weeks. I have never written a review before but this is an exception because I've never had to replace a product 3 times within a time span of 6 months.

    DO NOT BUY

Wish I would of read the reviews on this product before I purchased it. Yes, I was in a "pinch" and needed a power adapter for my Toshiba Satillite A305-S6857. Worked just fine in the beginning. Then I started to notice the adapter was getting hot, and my battery life was reduced, A LOT! The battery was only 3 months old when I started to use this power adapter, I was getting about 3-4 hours use on a full charge. Since I started to use this adapter, I'm only getting 20 minutes of usage. I thought maybe the battery went bad. So I replaced the battery. Same thing, the battery went bad again. I've had this adapter for 4 months and now it quit working. ROCKFISH products are substandard! I've read bad reviews on other ROCKFISH products! DO NOT PURCHASE!

    Expensive but versatile

    Posted .

I bought this after my HP power cord died. It apparently was the only one Best Buy stocked. I can understand, in a way, why they would want a one-size-fits-all model as opposed to keeping track of dozens of different laptop replacement cords. The one downside is you have to try all the various ends until you find the one that fits your laptop and then connect it. You end up with lots of other small pieces which may get lost unless carefully packed back in the box. There's probably only one that will work for you and you've just purchased a bunch of pieces and parts you'll never use.

    Poor Quality for Price

    Posted .

I've had this adapter now for just over 6 months. It worked great until just recently when it suddenly began to begin phasing power in and out. I checked all the cables and adapter and found that it is actually that there seems to be a short in the cord coming out of the power supply and running to the tip. My best guess right now is that it has gotten to hot (this charger runs warm just for referance) and has begun to melt the wires. For the cost of this unit, almost around $60 of the shelf I sure expected it to last longer than it has. I see I was mistaken and I should have just spend the extra $30 to purchase a factor direct charger for my Dell Inspiron 1520

    Works fine.

After forgetting my Dell power cord in the office, an hour away, and knowing that I would be working at home for the next several days, I scampered to find a power solution besides driving back to the office. Best Buy suggested this alternative power cord, it fit my Dell and has been powering it ever since allowing me to leave the other cord at the office. It was a great quick fix that has provided a long term solution.

A suitable product, but could be better

    Posted .

If the adapter for your computer breaks, you could buy a new one specifically made for your unit, or you could buy one of these universals. It does the trick, and it's easy enough to figure out which tip fits your computer, but the cord could be about 6-10 inches longer for more effective use and to seem more like the product it's replacing.

My cord went out in October 2010. I went to Best Buy and bought this cord because I needed one immediately for school. It worked just fine before I started having problems in the spring of 2011. I could get it to work if I positioned it a certain way, but eventually it stopped working all together. I took it into Best Buy and they were wonderful and exchanged it for a new one. The second one I received, just stopped working yesterday. I will be taking it back to Best Buy tonight. I don't know how long other people waited to review this product. It works just fine in the beginning... it isn't until months later you have issues. Honestly, it is not worth the money or hassle. Avoid this product.

Great if it meets your needs

    Posted .

I purchased this because my power supply had died. My main complaint about the item was really that I could not see if it would meet my needs for my model of computer. The staff in the store was not helpful in this aspect and could not help me find out if this product was right for me. Unfortunately, after I got it home and opened it up and read the instructions to go to Rocketfish website to look up the compatibility, my machine was not listed. There was quite an extensive list of computers that were compatible however. So if you have a more mainstream machine, this product would likely work for you.

I used to have a Dell 1545, about a month later the battery died. I replaced my 1545, with the 14 R (the newer Dells,) about a month later the same thing happened all over again. (the battery died,) The charger has worked really good so far, I've had it for over a year and I haven't had any issues/problems with it at all. I go to school, and this charger has helped me out a lot. I go to Barnes and Nobles quite a bit to read and do homework etc. Having this charger around is very helpful, With the price it's a bit expensive, It used to sell for about $70-$75 before. But I feel it's worth it. It replaced my old dell chargers. The Dell Chargers dies too quickly I've had my 14 R and the charger already went out. Having this charger around has helped me out a lot.

    Use Only In a Pinch

    Posted .

    - I needed a charger immediately, and bought this unit even though I was skeptical after reading many poor reviews. Keep in mind, this was the ONLY unit in the store with enough wattage to run my laptop, and I had no alternative. - my laptop, even though relatively new, was not listed in their compatibility guide and I had to extrapolate which head to use - I had to use a volt meter to make sure I was getting 19V - my laptop needs 80W and the unit is 90W but it heats up a lot more than the original. - it takes FOREVER to fully charge my laptop if I am using it while charging. The original charged it up in about in an hour of usage. - it does what it says, but with all the bad reviews about short life span, I'm planning on ordering the real McCoy from Toshiba and saving this one as a backup. - I can't believe it's almost $60 for just a charger.

Doesn't support all laptops - check first

    Posted .

$60 with tax, supports "thousands of laptops" - but not mine, apparently. Had a fun time figuring this out; the Tip Compatibility Guide AND User Guide were not included. One semi fits - only using it long enough to order the right one from a proper Acer provider ($40 plus shipping). *Not compatible with Acer Aspire 6935; also didn't list the model number of my original AC adapter. However, I suppose it would work with most others; I have a less common laptop brand and model.

    Good for the price

I bought one of these last year to replace a factory unit from HP for our HP laptop, and was quite pleased with the initial performance for the price (paid hundreds from other suppliers and they didn't work any better). It failed after 10 months, but was covered by Best Buy under warranty. I did BUY a second one because it was reasonably priced, and I figured I better have a backup (2 of these were less expensive than one from either IGo or Rayovac). I actually like the unit.
