    An Incredible Mic

I shoot stills professionally and occasionally shoot video. When I do, Rode Microphones are my go-to choice for audio capture. The hotshoe mount on the VideoMic Pro works great when I'm using it on my DSLR when shooting on the go or with an adapter so I can hang it over a subject as a boom mic. They're solid and I love the fact that they're powered by a 9V battery. The only reason I replaced my older version of the VideoMic Pro was that I was finishing the first of three days of shooting video and stills, tripped on a sidewalk and my mic flew off the rig and hit the ground, breaking apart (yes, I'm a clumsy idiot). The good news is that the updated design of this model blows the older design away. Even if you're a semi-pro who wants to start working with external audio recording, this product is well worth the money.

Needed a "shotgun" mic to record church events where the voices or instruments were not near a microphone and not coming through the main soundboard which we normally have plugged into our Canon Vixia HD Camera. This Rode picked up everything and the quality was excellent. Our sound booth is about 50 feet from the stage and everything was very clear. The two adjustment switches on the back are awesome depending on what you are recording. The only thing I can say is that we had to "rig" up another tripod so the mic would be close to the camera because the cord isn't very long. The Vixia doesn't have a "shoe" on top for the Rode to sit in and the hole on the bottom of the Rode is bigger than most tripod's screws, so we made it work with a screw and a couple reducer bushing for around $6.00. May look into getting a bracket for the Rode at a later date but for now it's perfect for our needs.

Sound is great, in all environments. When I was checking out at Best Buy a clerk said he had the other Rode mic, and asked why I preferred this one, in part better sounds with boost. But most importantly, the video mic is in front of the hot shoe adapter, so you can still use the viewfinder on my Sony A6300. Whereas the videomic the hot shoe adapter is centered, meaning it hangs out over the back of the camera and you cant use the viewfinder.

I tested this microphone against my cannon shotgun mic using the same exact sound and distance from the sound. The Rode superior. Reading the reviews in advance the major down side seemed to be inserting a new battery. After a few attempts this wasn't a problem. The other less significant downside is the need to use a battery instead of the camera battery. Either way a battery will be drained using a microphone. The Rode has several different settings, which I will experiment with in the future.

The rode mic pro will increase your audio quality and it is acceptable for indoor and outdoor use pending the use of a wind sock(dead cat). I have found that by using both this rode mic and a handheld zoom H5 which is far better on audio quality but pairs well in post production that one may pick up better at times and I can use audio from two separate sources, both of which are good. Overall, I do like this product but wish I would have purchased the Pro+.

Bought this mic for my GH5. I primarily record my videos outdoors and combine it with a dead cat filter. The quality is professional. It's easy to setup. The only thing you would need is a separate battery. It's definitely a step up from the Rode Video Mic Go. I would recommend this for any serious audio/video professional.

So I did a lot of research on what on camera microphone is the best to get for shooting video and this has to be it. I tried out the sneheieser and the quality of the sound wasn't nearly as good as compared to the VMP. If you have the money do yourself a favor and purchase this mic, audio is 50% of whatever video you make, so you want to make sure you audio quality is Good.

I use this microphone to make videos for my business. Sound quality is excellent but the microphone mount to my a6500 is loose and falls off easily. Be patient trying to install the 9 volt battery as the door is difficult to open. Wish the mic came with a rechargeable battery for the price.

It's a great tool for run and gun, but be careful. It's really sensitive so you will hear EVERYTHING, for better or worse. I would recommend for videographers who dislike putting lavaliers on people and also dislike the boom. Again, great, just be careful it does what it's supposed to.

I was really skeptical about purchasing one of these but was looking for a quality shotgun mic to use in a run and gun setup when I didn't have a boom operator available or the time to setup lav mics. After reading a bunch of reviews I purchased and have not regretted it.

I got this mic to pair it with my Sony A7III. It’s been a pretty solid mic so far. The sound quality is pretty good for the price. I thought about going with the Pro+, but I don’t regret not getting it. This one is doing everything I need at a reasonable price.

Nothing makes your production sound more professional than proper audio and that's exactly what this will do for you. This is permanently attached to my 70D! The battery seems to last forever writing since Christmas I have only replace this battery twice. The difference this made is something that I cannot describe in words. Buy it!

Keeps noise outside of the directional shotgun mic for a clean sound capture when you shoot video. I use it for my dslr, my ipod, gopro, and point and shoot cameras. Way better than the built in mics on the cameras.

the sound it produces once i connect it to my camera is amazing! it has minimum to no static noise. the only adjustment i had to do was lower down the volume on my camera once i put it on +20 dB. Def. a big upgrade for sounds on my videos!

The audio quality of this microphone is great, and it is Made in Australia. Please note that this is NOT A STEREO MICROPHONE, it is a DUAL MONO MICROPHONE, which is a common arrangement in shotgun microphones.

This rode mic captured exactly the sound we needed for an outdoor shoot. There were lawnmowers audible and airplanes overhead, but the mic only picked up the audio we needed in our intimate scenes. What a great find!
