Great option for a handheld PC!

With a lot of different options on the market now for handheld gaming PCs it’s tough to know which one to go for. The ROG is decently powerful and super versatile, and I honestly love the RGB touches that mimic my gaming desktop set up. It is able to run anything I try, with some performance compromises needed on big open world games like InfinityNikki. I find the UI actually pretty easy to use and I love being able to run games from Steam, Epic, and Xbox game pass. The only drawback is the size; it is huge and somewhat uncomfortable to handle. I do think this helps with heat and battery life, though, which I found to be pretty good all things considered.

I would say that it’s nice. It weighs a little bit less than the steam deck. The battery is ok. I had a couple of problems got a defective one with the moving stick but then I got a new one. It plays games amazing. The battery lasts an hour depending on what game you play. It’s a good device if you want to play indie games. I would recommend this to a friend. But if you want something budget friendly go with a steam deck.

I always had a Microsoft CPU, and the performance is just as good. As a gaming handheld, I favor single player games and the games performance is excellent as well. Overall this is a good purchase.

It was amazing, I got it the day it said I was going to, I opened it up, charged it, and it was pretty much ready to go after set up. Remembering that it’s a handheld pc, this thing performed way better than I expected, peaking at 100 fps on medium settings for most games. I recommend anyone that’s interested to buy it when it’s on sale 10/10. The only thing I do recommend with this product is external storage, I personally haven’t reached anywhere near its max capacity, but as I get bigger games it will become an issue. Also, the ram is not upgradable, and the gpu and rest of the system both share the ram, you either split it evenly or choose to give your gpu or system more ram. As there are docks with external gpu (which I will be getting at some point) it doesn’t bother me as much.

Controls Took a bit to get used to and other than the SD slot issue it’s a great device
When used portable and docked. Plays a decent amount of games before the fans need to blow harder and is great for emulating. Becoming More user friendly with every update. Battery doesn’t last super long when gaming but isn’t any different than the competitors. Great If you’re on a budget or just want a portable PC

Fun product great for trips. Battery life on performance mode will last about an hour. The screen is great and bright the joysticks can feel a little loose. Overall if your looking for something to play Steam games & Xbox game pass and maybe emulator games this is for you.

Awesome portable gaming machine. Bought one for World of Warcraft and it handles the game well, especially with how portable it is. Battery life is a minor issue, but for what it is, I'm not complaining.

Excellent product for a killer price.
This is a portable gaming PC, point blank, and there is nothing on the market with a better bang for your buck when it comes to gaming PCs. A must buy for anyone tech savvy who plans to live in the coming future lol. 10/10 recommended

While I love my set up, I can’t bring it everywhere for obvious reasons. I had a work trip coming up, and considering the amount of travel I do within a year, I bought the Ally.
This blew my expectations out of the water on almost every category, even with my already high expectations. Steam? Easy. Battlenet? Not a worry. Want to run a game with mods? Sure thing, just don’t get too too wild with it. Another neat thing is it’s windows based. Need to work on something quickly for work? Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Did I mention the spatial audio? It’s not spoke on enough about this product on specs or reviews. It genuinely takes you sitting in front of it to really appreciate how great it is.
I bought this over the steam deck or Lenovo, while on sale, and I got my bang for my buck and thensome. If you don’t have a pc? Use this. You can dock it to a monitor easily and it can travel like a laptop minus the bulk.
Important notes however, battery leaves something to be desired, however if you bring portable batteries or are near a power source this shouldn’t be a worry. Software bloat can be intense as well, but a fairly easy fix from the get go. Gyro also leaves something to be desired but I’m certain with enough research most can figure it out. The largest complaint would be the hand fatigue: eventually your hands get tired of holding the device. If Asus made a sort of cover to make it more ergonomic or less heavy by a few oz then this would be a true home run.
In conclusion, if you want a device that works, and works just as good as a mid range gaming laptop? Get this. It’s better than the steam deck on most specs alone, not including bonus features.

The New Generation of Gaming PCs

My daughter wanted a gaming PC, and but loves the Switch form-factor. This was the obvious choice. It runs high end game with ease, and has been very dependable so far. Plus, you can dock it for big-screen experience if you want. My only quibble is that it could have more storage, but we DID opt for the low-end model.

Love the Rog Ally Extreme. Functions better than expected. As it's a windows pc and not a gaming system only it has unique versatility. Obviously it has handheld gaming capability but with the dock I also purchased I can play it on my TV. I also downloaded a DAW for music and with the dock have been able to update my VSTs for ky electronic drums. Works great.
One draw back is if you want it for gaming for kids it may be a bit too in depth. The set up is more extensive than most handheld gaming systems. Thats no bother if youre tech savvy or have the time and maturity to figure it out.
The only system flaw, which i have not experienced yet but so expect to run into is the sd card slot overheats. Expandable memory may not be an option for you and with a 512GB hard drive for some that could be a deal breaker.
Overall fantastic though!

The Z1 version of the ROG Ally….. as long as you catch it on discount!!!! For 399.00 you can’t beat this device. I’ve played a lot of demanding games I didn’t think would work but for my use case I haven’t run into anything that wasn’t playable. If you are looking for a windows handled that will still play games low to medium settings…. And you catch on sale lol then this is a good buy.

Why buy the NON-extreme ROG Ally??

Why buy the NON-extreme ROG Ally even though most reviewers recommend not to touch it with a ten foot pole? Well, for me it was a combination of the sale price dropping to $399.99 for the base model, as well as my game streaming setup with Moonlight. Because I already own a gaming PC that i use to game stream with Moonlight, the ROG Ally becomes an excellent “hybrid” game streaming device. It can play games by itself when I don’t have a good wifi connection (for instance when traveling), albeit at questionable resolution and framerate, but when I have a good wifi connection, I simply connect to my gaming PC in my home office, and stream the games at full 1080p 120hz. Because I can just stream the games to get full resolution and high framerate, I don’t “need” the ROG Ally itself to be all that powerful. It would be nice, sure, but the Z1 extreme model is a considerable extra cost over the sale price that I paid for the base model. So, for this sale price and use case, I consider the “regular” “non-Z1-extreme” version of the ROG Ally to be well worth it.

Way better than I expected! It’s definitely not as bulky/heavy as I thought it would be and I love that it’s so easy to use. Definitely what I was looking for to be able to game on the go without the hassle of carrying a large gaming laptop.

Not only is this good for some gaming using the Steam or Xbox apps, but it’s also basically a PC running Windows. Im big into FPS games like Apex, Valorant or The Finals. Using the joysticks is “workable” just not ideal. I havent purchased the docking station yet in order to connect to a monitor and mouse and keyboard, but will soon. Definitely worth the money if on sale.

Works good, overall is a good option if you wanna try a console and you are a casual player that plays time to time, the battery last around 1 hour, could be more and less depending on what are you playing and in which mode you are playing (if is turbo, consumes more battery and faster). The storage could be better but you can always buy a ssd card and replace it with other with more storage. Recommended to buy it when it’s on sale. (I would recommend it for people that likes the switch but want to try games that are not available in the Nintendo Store)

Blown away how well this machine works since I got the non-extreme model, however this little guy runs games pretty well on medium setting on older games. However 512 gigs of storage does run quick depending on your situation would recommend getting a [2230 SSD] or an ssd adapter to accept [2280 SSD] that can be a cheaper option for a 1tb or 2tb upgrade.

Amazing for the price. This keeps up with my Dell XPS desktop and was 1/3 the price! Battery life is the only drawback for me so far, after a month of use. Its best used plugged in but you can get 1-2 hrs unplugged. Can dock to TV with accessories or use it as a full blown pc (this is full Windows 11)

At first i was a bit sceptical about a mobile gaming console since its my first one. I didnt think it would run smooth due to its size. I was mindblown on how it plays and all the functions on it and i can play almost any game thats downloadable on pc as well as steam and xbox games yet small enough to carry comfortably. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
