I bought this to play pc games on (vampire survivors, fifa) and emulators. It does the job very well. I got an open box deal from best buy for $340 and it plays like new. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking to play pc games cheap and in a portable fashion.

Offers a smooth and vibrant 1080p touchscreen display, which you might mistake for 1440p or even 4k. It’s literally a handheld computer that can play games, my favorite feature is that it has an armory crate button built into it, so when you press it pops up and little menu that you can customize your settings. it’s got rgb joysticks for late night gaming. It’s got two programable paddles on the back I only have 2 issues with it, it doesn’t have a lot of storage which is fine if you are just cloud streaming, but if you wanna actually install the games you might need to upgrade the m.2 drive and you kinda need a dock for full mouse and keyboard functionality. Other than needing the dock for certain things, it functions as intended

I believe the ROG Ally is good at what it is made to do but struggles to be a great machine. First, the battery life is awful. Off the charger you are getting an hour maybe two, which is counterintuitive to being "portable". Second, this Ally and it's more extreme model get WARM and the heat exhausts from the top of the device, this can be a pro if you like hand warmers, it's that warm. Third, at times it can be buggy. I usually set it to sleep when it's idle and if I come back to an application it's usually glitchy.
If you are on the fence, go for it. You can always return it within 14 days.

Outstanding performance for a PC handheld, and its a joy to use. Be aware that the battery life is pretty awful, and plan to install EVERY windows and firmware update available to get a good experience. Would definitely buy again!

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife, and ended up an excellent purchase for her. She'd been using my Steam Deck off and on, but uses Game Pass for a lot of her PC gaming. Linux was not user friendly for her, so this was a nice alternative for her. Everything just works out of the box, and while it has issues, those are more issues with Windows 11 than the device itself. Plays everything she wants to play (Expect to lower some settings, it is a handheld device afterall) so well worth it for the money.

Works great. This gaming system has the power of high end laptops for a fraction of the price. I've hooked it up to my USB c hub and used it as any other laptop or desktop with no issues.

This has got to be one of the best (if not the best) handheld gaming computers out there. It's got Windows 11, it's got Armoury Crate, and it's played everything I have thrown at it. I mean you can't play for example Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra RT or anything like that. But for modern games and indie games this thing kills it. I been playing Witcher 3, Hades, Torchlight, Titan Quest, Mad Max, and even Hell Divers 2 on mine. The speakers and display on it are Top Tier Quality!!! Just wow!! And its 120hz!!! You can't upgrade the ram (you get 16gb DDR5 6400mhz RAM) but you can upgrade the SSD I believe up to 2tb!!! My only complaint is the battery life when you're not plugged in is like 1.5 to 2 hours unless you alter the settings and power (and you don't get a whole lot more). Aside from that it's amazing. I disabled and uninstalled One Drive because it kept syncing all the short cuts on my desktop to my Ally and it got extremely annoying. I'm sure the extreme version and the X version is a lot better (and much more expensive) but for $400 this handheld is perfect long as you be realistic with your expectations on gaming.

This is thing is sweet!!! The best gaming system I've ever owned! Its portable, you can play game as a handheld or on your tv with Xbox controllers! It's lightweigh, fast and the graphix are excellent! If you're trying to get away from Playstation or Xbox membership renewals, here's you're oportunity. Nobody wants to pay to play games online that have already been bought and paid for Steam gets rid of all that efficiently!

I've been lo into a nice handheld computer ever since the release of the steam deck, originally i was going to buy one but i decided to wait and spon forgot about it. Two weeks ago i cam across the ROG ally and i was interested. I purchased the Z1 model during a sale and i haven't looked back since. Sure this model is inferior to the ultimate by a large margin but i use it for indi titles and emulation. for that is has more than met my expectations. I have my gaming pc for the more hard core titles. I highly recommend this model WHEN ITS ON SALE the non sale price is far too high.

I was looking originally for a gaming laptop but didn't really have the budget needed to get a halfway decent one. And then I found the Rog Ally! I got the Z1 purely because the games I play don't really require the extra power of the extreme. It's great, games run good, the updates suck but that's just windows updates in general haha I pretty much play this in bed so I almost always have it plugged in anyway but I will say, if playing on the go, definitely have the portable battery pack because it does drain quickly. All in all, I love it and am glad I purchased!

he current price of $399 is pretty good and since most kids are just looking for Roblox / Minecraft / Fortnite - the non extreme model is more than enough. My son uses one and I have it locked down with Xbox family / Microsoft family to restrict has access to things but I also setup his software and launchers for him so that his Home Screen is his game list and he can pick what he wants while in game mode. If the kid is proficient with windows and can do this themselves, enabling more functionality is possible as well but I turned it into a handheld to play a majority of my Steam / GOG library for him while also allowing him to stream Gamepass and my Nvidia service over WiFi.

What can I say except WOW? The handheld gaming PC market is booming and I wanted to dip my toes in, and being a heavy esport player I thought the ROG Ally base model would be perfect for my first handheld, as it boasted a 120hz display, which was quite important to me when shopping.
Initially I didn’t expect much, after all, really, how much can you do with a portable gaming computer that cost $400? (Granted, I went with an open box one so realistically I paid $330.) I truly was impressed with what I got at this price point! The software integration is honestly impressive, props to asus on that front! Being a full on Windows based system really makes the whole experience seamless, which was another big reason I went with this system over the steam deck.
What about hardware? Well, the base model of the Ally includes AMDs Z1 processor, which boast 6 cores/12 threads, 4 AMD RDNA3 compute units, 22mb of cache, and all of that running at a mere 35 watts at the max! On top of that it comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, which is more than enough for gaming on the go, although may struggle a little bit if you are attempting to use one of these as a docked computer at home that you can take with you. You also get 512GB of storage with a microSD slot as well. All in all though, pretty impressive specs if you can pick it up at that $400 price point, which seems to be the norm.
Let’s talk games. I was not only able to handle esport titles (primarily rocket league for me, with some overwatch in the mix) very well, maintaining the 120fps needed for that 120hz display, but I was also able to run triple A titles! Destiny 2 runs fairly smoothly, roughly averaging 60fps, with some drops into the mid 40s at the lowest in busy areas, running at low settings at 720p, but if I’m being honest I can’t even really tell it’s running on low, and with this small of a screen 720p is perfectly fine. Some other titles I got to run include Elden Ring (again, low settings 720p, roughly averaging 45FPS), forza (low 720p, roughly 60fps), and Cyberpunk! (Low, 720p, running around 45-50FPS, really area dependent).
All in all a solid handheld if you can get in at that $400 price point! Would very much recommend.

Being a console gamer I was skeptical of owning a gaming pc even as a handheld, but the Asus ROG Ally has exceeded all of my expectations. I purchased the device as a way to replay ps3/360-ps4 era games and it has not disappointed. Dead Space 2 and DMC Devil May Cry have run flawlessly. This is basically a windows steam deck and for the uninitiated steam sales are amazing. I’m buying old games for a fraction of their cost some as low as $2 and $3. The increased resolution in this device makes these games look better than ever and they are insanely affordable. The Asus ROG Ally is by far the best way to experience your favorite games like new all over again.
