What can I say except WOW? The handheld gaming PC market is booming and I wanted to dip my toes in, and being a heavy esport player I thought the ROG Ally base model would be perfect for my first handheld, as it boasted a 120hz display, which was quite important to me when shopping. Initially I didn’t expect much, after all, really, how much can you do with a portable gaming computer that cost $400? (Granted, I went with an open box one so realistically I paid $330.) I truly was impressed with what I got at this price point! The software integration is honestly impressive, props to asus on that front! Being a full on Windows based system really makes the whole experience seamless, which was another big reason I went with this system over the steam deck. What about hardware? Well, the base model of the Ally includes AMDs Z1 processor, which boast 6 cores/12 threads, 4 AMD RDNA3 compute units, 22mb of cache, and all of that running at a mere 35 watts at the max! On top of that it comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, which is more than enough for gaming on the go, although may struggle a little bit if you are attempting to use one of these as a docked computer at home that you can take with you. You also get 512GB of storage with a microSD slot as well. All in all though, pretty impressive specs if you can pick it up at that $400 price point, which seems to be the norm. Let’s talk games. I was not only able to handle esport titles (primarily rocket league for me, with some overwatch in the mix) very well, maintaining the 120fps needed for that 120hz display, but I was also able to run triple A titles! Destiny 2 runs fairly smoothly, roughly averaging 60fps, with some drops into the mid 40s at the lowest in busy areas, running at low settings at 720p, but if I’m being honest I can’t even really tell it’s running on low, and with this small of a screen 720p is perfectly fine. Some other titles I got to run include Elden Ring (again, low settings 720p, roughly averaging 45FPS), forza (low 720p, roughly 60fps), and Cyberpunk! (Low, 720p, running around 45-50FPS, really area dependent). All in all a solid handheld if you can get in at that $400 price point! Would very much recommend.

I got an open box for $339. Plus a $100 giftcard i had. Only paid $278 after taxes. I know they say don't bother with this model, but for the price its great. Will play triple a games at low settings.

This is thing is sweet!!! The best gaming system I've ever owned! Its portable, you can play game as a handheld or on your tv with Xbox controllers! It's lightweigh, fast and the graphix are excellent! If you're trying to get away from Playstation or Xbox membership renewals, here's you're oportunity. Nobody wants to pay to play games online that have already been bought and paid for Steam gets rid of all that efficiently!

I was looking originally for a gaming laptop but didn't really have the budget needed to get a halfway decent one. And then I found the Rog Ally! I got the Z1 purely because the games I play don't really require the extra power of the extreme. It's great, games run good, the updates suck but that's just windows updates in general haha I pretty much play this in bed so I almost always have it plugged in anyway but I will say, if playing on the go, definitely have the portable battery pack because it does drain quickly. All in all, I love it and am glad I purchased!

Being a console gamer I was skeptical of owning a gaming pc even as a handheld, but the Asus ROG Ally has exceeded all of my expectations. I purchased the device as a way to replay ps3/360-ps4 era games and it has not disappointed. Dead Space 2 and DMC Devil May Cry have run flawlessly. This is basically a windows steam deck and for the uninitiated steam sales are amazing. I’m buying old games for a fraction of their cost some as low as $2 and $3. The increased resolution in this device makes these games look better than ever and they are insanely affordable. The Asus ROG Ally is by far the best way to experience your favorite games like new all over again.

This has got to be one of the best (if not the best) handheld gaming computers out there. It's got Windows 11, it's got Armoury Crate, and it's played everything I have thrown at it. I mean you can't play for example Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra RT or anything like that. But for modern games and indie games this thing kills it. I been playing Witcher 3, Hades, Torchlight, Titan Quest, Mad Max, and even Hell Divers 2 on mine. The speakers and display on it are Top Tier Quality!!! Just wow!! And its 120hz!!! You can't upgrade the ram (you get 16gb DDR5 6400mhz RAM) but you can upgrade the SSD I believe up to 2tb!!! My only complaint is the battery life when you're not plugged in is like 1.5 to 2 hours unless you alter the settings and power (and you don't get a whole lot more). Aside from that it's amazing. I disabled and uninstalled One Drive because it kept syncing all the short cuts on my desktop to my Ally and it got extremely annoying. I'm sure the extreme version and the X version is a lot better (and much more expensive) but for $400 this handheld is perfect long as you be realistic with your expectations on gaming.

It’s alright, it’s a good idea but the battery life is horrendous which really makes it being a portable handheld feel worthless when after an hour and half you have to sit next to a wall outlet to use it. It would have been 4 stars if the battery life wasn’t awful, but even at that the performance is mediocre but okay given what it is, but windows 11 for a handheld is trash and needs a ton of work. If I was still inside the return period I would probably have gotten a refund.

I think the futire of portable PC gaming is here. The ROG Ally is better than I had expected. And I think it’s ushering in a new generation of gaming devices. It is a windows device and will play all types of PC games. Plus any applications you’d like to load onto it. The only negative so far is the battery…it’s just doesnt last long, particularly with max settings. Maybe 2 1/2 hours. Less intensive games on lower settings can get you double that, but you’ll need to adjust your settings accordingly. If you’re a PC gamer who wants to play on the go with a dedicated device, right now, I think the Ally is the best on the market.

Do you want to hold a high end gaming PC in your hands?!? Do you want to game like a pro during your lunch break at work?!? Can’t decide if you want a Desktop, Laptop or Console?!? Well…….why not buy all 3!?! Can’t decide if you to use a PlayStation or Xbox controller?….A Keyboard and Mouse?….The handhelds gamepad? Well…Pick them all! Want to use the Rog’s insanely perfect 1980x1020, 120Hz, LCD screen??….Or maybe even run it on your 76inch 4k big screen on 3840x2160 resolution!!….Well, You can do both!!! Unless you’re running a rig that you’ve spent thousands of dollars on, I guarantee that this thing runs/downloads games better than anything you’re playing on now. The Rog Ally is nothing short of amazing! I have dozens of hours on it and have played everything from Cyberpunk, to Anthem, Division 2, Palworld, Starfield, numerous Call of Duty’s, Skull & Bones, PubG, Madden, The Crew, AEW Fight Forever, Forza, Sons of the Forest, Sea of Thieves, Hell Let Loose, Titanfall 2 and so on. You want something you can Emulate a PS3, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Gamecube, etc?!? Want the ability to run Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games, Gog Galaxy, EA, Rockstar Games or even Battle.net?!? The Rog Ally gives YOU the ability to use any of the apps mentioned above!!! Do you like using Discord or in-game voice chat while gaming?!? You can do either!!! You can use the gamepads built in speakers, a set of earbuds, or even a Bluetooth or rca jack wired gaming headset. I went with the Asus Rog Cetra earbuds and the Corsair Virtuoso RGB wireless XT High-Fidelity Gaming Headset…..and also the Asus Rog Raikiri Pro gaming controller. Don’t listen to the horror stories you read, which are from EARLY Gen models. This is legitimately a gaming rig you can hold in your hands. Runs windows 11 smoothly and can access the same apps your desktop/laptop has. **In my honest opinion” this is NOT a toy you’d purchase for your kids or a child. If you’re getting on for them, understand that this IS a laptop with no restrictions and if they can’t build a pc from beginning to end, install/update software, navigate through the system and settings…then this is NOT for them. It took me nearly an entire day to get everything installed, uploaded and set up. I’ve been gaming on desktop pc’s for over a decade(37 years old) and this definitely has a learning curve. But……if they CAN manage a pc and want a handheld, then this is definitely the thing to get!!! Between the Rog Ally having insane graphics, a super clear and crisp 192x1080 LCD screen, and the ability lto connect to numerous gaming apps……this is an all around, super awesome, handheld gaming rig and I recommend everyone get one! After dozens and dozens of hours played, there are only 2-3 “negative” things to say about the Rog Ally. #1-When using Bluetooth earbuds or a headset, there is a 1 or 2 second delay between the action you perform and the audio. #2-The battery life is pretty short. Maybe 3-5 hours, depending on system settings and game settings. 3#-A lot of games you’ll play need some type of online services. So if you aren’t around wifi, you’ll need to find games you can play in “offline mode”.

I was skeptical about these handheld gaming consoles. But it is FAR different from a Switch or PSP or any other type of handheld gaming system. The Linux/Windows operability and compatibility made it extremely easy to clone my PC Desktop to this and just pick up where i left off. Installing the games and adjusting the gaming profiles makes a world of a difference. Does get hot and drains battery quick. But unless you are running epic/highest settings on each game you can still get a decent amount of gaming time in before having to plug it in! Highly recommend a case and screen protector to ensure the longevity cause this is definitely a system that will stay in my arsenal!

Ive had the ROG Ally for a few months now and so far it has been a great purchase. While i have a PC, i was curious about gaming on this and playing games is super easy and they play great. While i played it a handful of times, my gf has been using it as she wanted to get into PC gaming. I bought her a whole dock set up and she plays it almost every night. While she doesnt like using mouse and keyboard, she is still able to use an xbox controller and play most PC games. Great product and i recommend it for those who travel often or who are getting into PC gaming but dont want to spend a ton of money on a new PC.
