Best handheld pc you can buy right now.
Screen is nice and bright with decent color accuracy.
The sound has been upgraded over the original.
Ergonomics are greatly improved and the device feels great in my hands even during long gaming sessions.
The extra ram at higher frequency allows you to play current triple A titles at low-medium settings at 720-900p resolution and get 30-60fps.
The triggers and buttons feel better compared to the original rog ally, dpad is improved as well.
The sd card issues are fixed with the move, the extra usb port is nice addition as well. Double the storage as well, I’ve currently got 22 titles downloaded to mine.
Device is mostly quiet even under load, they can get a bit loud under heavy loads but that can be fixed and rarely happens to me.
Finally the biggest improvement for a handheld system, the bigger battery and the improved battery performance. I’ve gotten 2-3 hours playing triple A titles and 4-5 playing smaller indie titles.
All around a great iteration of the Rog ally and worth the purchase.

I’m loving this thing. This is my first handheld, aside from little trials on my son’s Nintendo Switch. Anyways! As an avid PC gamer I was really looking for something to bring on-the-go, like on family trips and such, and a laptop would still be too much. This thing fits the bill perfectly. Performance-wise, I couldn’t ask for anything better in such a device. Coming from a PC with a 12700k, 32GB’s of RAM, and a 3060ti, all on a QHD screen, I actually think cyberpunk looks and runs better on this lol. Aesthetically, this Ally is gorgeous. The lights are on point, and the black is sweet. I was worried about the previous white ones getting too dirty. Mechanically speaking, everything seems in order. The sticks feel wonderful, with a little concave indent to keep your thumbs in. The triggers are fast but not that super-light loose fast or anything like that. The screen is amazing. I almost thought it was an OLED with how vibrant the colors and everything are. Moving the mouse around with a thumb stick is super fun for some reason, and super smooth too. Battery life seems good(I know a lot of people talked about how the previous allies had a terrible battery), and temps seem ok too. Can’t ask for perfection in these types of things, like a laptop.
All in all, I love it. Here’s the ONE reason I dropped a star: finding compatible games. This was a hard start. Jedi survivor works, but graphically it’s a bit rough. Cyberpunk looks great and runs smooth, controls all work. Both SWKOTOR games don’t work very well control-wise. The new SW Bounty Hunter runs great, but the horizontal camera movement stutters. The Robin Hood game on game pass works, but the controls like to bobble around so that was a no go. Still gonna be trying other games soon.

If your looking to game on the go, with little compromises in both battery life or performance then the ROG Ally X is the definitive the one to go for.
This is from someone coming from owning and using a Steam Deck previously. It’s amazing the amount of games that are playable on this handheld with amazing battery life. I’m talking running Forza 5 with medium settings and playing for roughly 3 hours.
While it isn’t as economically pleasing as the Steam Deck, it is still rather comfortable to hold and doesn’t have any issues like the legion go of weight or sharp edges. Meaning you can play for quite a while without any pain or soreness in your hands or simply feeling uncomfortable holding it.
Then there is the fact that for storage it uses the standard 2280 NVME SSD, so upgrading the storage is something bigger is not only easier but cheaper as well. While I did only go up to a 4tb you could also put up to 8tb of storage!
The biggest selling point for me, and what made me switch from the Steamdeck is the fact that I can dual-boot from BazziteOS (basically SteamOS on the ROG Ally) to Windows. As yes, windows is still windows and not the greatest when it comes to handheld controls without a keyboard and mouse. So I was able to get the best of both worlds. A console like experience that I’m use to with the Steamdeck, and the comparability of Windows for games that need it/run better on windows.
Overall, if you’re looking for the top of the line handheld, this is it.

This device is single handedly my favorite computing device ever. I was always a handheld games since the GBA and i couldnt be happier playing games like RDR2 and newer releases on the go, in my lap. Battey life is a solid 2-3 hours years later, and i have put 1,500 usage hours into it with zero failures, not even a significant scratch or the joystick cap glue. I still think this is a go to handheld of you are in the market, itll play whatever you throw at it. The 16/8 gig ram/vram split is perfection, the ergonomics and weight and near immaculate and the experience is like nothing else.

I’ve been using the ASUS ROG Ally X 1TB for a few weeks now, and I have to say—it’s easily one of the most impressive handheld gaming PCs on the market right now. The 1TB storage is a game changer, letting me install a ton of AAA titles without worrying about space. Games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Starfield run surprisingly smooth for a device this compact.
The upgraded battery life is another standout—compared to the original Ally, the X model lasts noticeably longer, which makes gaming on the go much more practical. The ergonomics are also improved, with a more comfortable grip and better button feel.
The screen is bright and crisp, and the performance is fantastic for both gaming and light productivity. Whether docked or handheld, it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it.
If you're looking for a high-end Steam Deck alternative with Windows out of the box and more storage, the ROG Ally X is absolutely worth it.

I’ve had the ROG Ally X for a few weeks now, and honestly, this thing is awesome. It’s crazy how much power ASUS packed into something this small. The Z1 Extreme chip and 24GB of RAM make it run games super smooth — I’ve played both casual Indie games and AAA titles on it without any issues.
The 120Hz screen is gorgeous. It’s bright, colors pop, and everything looks really sharp. Definitely one of the best displays I’ve seen on a handheld. The design is also much more comfortable than the original Ally — it actually feels great to hold for long sessions, and the battery lasts a lot longer now too.
Windows 11 works surprisingly well on it. You can game, stream, or even do some light work if you really want to. The fan is quiet most of the time, and the whole thing just feels solid and well-built.
If I had to point out one small thing, there’s a bit of a learning curve with the controls and Windows setup at first, but you get used to it pretty fast.
Overall, I’m seriously impressed. The ROG Ally X is the perfect mix of power and portability — it’s become my go-to for gaming when I’m away from my PC. Totally worth it!

Phenomenal purchase. Imo, for gaming, what matters most is 4 things to me. Also windows on a handheld isn’t the most user friend UI. I will be honest but, the touch inputs are spot on and if all else fails, keyboard and mouse will fix any issue related to setup. Because once it is setup, touch controls are not an issue and the problems with windows 11 aren’t asus’s fault.
Battery Life 5/5, lasts about 2 1/2 hours on battery on turbo mode. Thats far better then any labtop I’ve gamed on.
Storage 4.5/5, only 1tb but isn’t challenging to upgrade storage
Performance 5/5, using AFMF 2 allows this thing to hit way past 60 fps such as on elden ring. Phenomenal performance.
Display, 4.5/5, not oled but there is a video on youtube that goes into depth about this. Its due to heat and battery life (surprisingly). Oled does look nicer but imo for 120hz VRR on a small 1080p screen, the Ally x that has more than enough power to comfortably run 1080p games with some adjustments.
PS Play (Not ps remote play) once set up not only turns this into a ps portal but honestly can handle everything.
- xbox game pass
- Steam link
- Bazzite OS for a legit steam deck experience if you hate windows and want a easy non windows experience
- Emudeck for easy to install emulation
- PS Play (originally pxplay, find on github)
-You can install a theme on this to look like your favorite gaming system as well as a overlay on top of windows 11.
The possibilities are endless as if you don’t have much time to game, this will bring back that joy. Best battery, best performance. If you’re worried about warranty, I highly recommend the best buy accidental drop protection. You’re treating yourself to a nice device, might as well spend the extra hundred or so to get that peace of mind. Cheers, best purchase I made in a long time.

I owned the first Ally, and I absolutely love it. But one thing that was a huge downfall was the battery life. The Rog Ally X addresses that with a battery almost double the size. Now this device can get you through a long gaming session at the highest performance. You can play most AAA titles with no problem with this device. Also, 1080p on a screen this size looks fantastic. The joysticks are also upgraded on this over the original Ally. They tweaked a couple more things such as faster RAM and also uses a full size SSD (2280) which gives you more options for faster storage. This was a welcoming upgrade, and I think this is the best overall handheld device on the market at this time (01/2025). I bought this at launch, as I did with the original Ally, and since launch, many great accessories have become available, such as the Dbrand killswitch case and also 2 brands of hall effect joysticks, both of which I have installed and highly recommend. The hall effect joysticks are a great upgrade over the original so you can avoid (or fix) stick drift, I would recommend buying them right away to avoid drift, or you can wear out the originals and get these later on.

I've had this thing for almost a year now and I can't really find any flaws with it. I've been doing a fair amount of traveling recently and lugging my gaming laptop around isn't ideal so I was looking for a decent handheld I could put in a carryon. I liked the idea of a Steam Deck but since most of my games are from the Epic Games Store (due to the free game of the week every week) and I don't have a huge Steam library, I was looking for a Windows-based device.
The Ally X's performance has been great so far. Some games may require a bit of tweaking in the graphics settings but for the most part I haven't had to do much of that (for example, Death Stranding runs fine as is, but Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice needed to be adjusted to fix occasional low framerates). The buttons are solid, responsive, and comfortable, and the device itself is just the right size and weight to feel comfortable playing for a few hours. The screen has a decent resolution and has accurate touch response when navigating Windows. There's plenty of storage space right out of the box but the Ally X can also be easily upgraded as well. The speakers are sufficient, though honestly using headphones will always be a better option for a handheld.
Let's talk accessories. I would 100% recommend getting some type of case for this, especially if you're bringing this with you while traveling. The official Rog Ally carrying case has protected my Ally X through multiple airports, though it's a bit bulky. A dbrand Killswitch case with a travel cover might be sufficient and a space-saver. You might also need an inexpensive USB-C hub in certain circumstances, due to this running on Windows 11 and the random issues that Windows entails, but if you already have a Bluetooth keyboard & mouse paired to the Ally X you can probably skip that.

The rog ally x is amazing! I have a heavily built pc and always wanted to play on the go or when I traveled but it was to big to take with. Now with the rog I can! I'm blown away with how well it runs games like cod, the crew, emulators and others. Truly amazing and crazy how something that small can preform so well. The only downside for me would be the storage size, because of the big games I have. But it's extremely easy to add more storage if needed. I went with a 4tb ssd and a couple 1tb sd cards for games that have a bunch of add ons. I'd highly recommend this hand-held to anyone looking for a new device or for one on the go

I've had the ROG Ally X for a few weeks now, and it’s easily one of the best handheld gaming devices out there. ASUS improved everything from the original model—better ergonomics, longer battery life, and smoother performance.
Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Doom: The Dark Ages run surprisingly well, thanks to the powerful Z1 Extreme chip and upgraded RAM. Load times are quick, and the cooling system keeps things quiet even during intense sessions.
What I love most is how portable and comfortable it is. The battery upgrade makes a big difference, especially for travel or gaming away from home. And the Armoury Crate SE software is much more refined now—super easy to tweak settings and manage your library.
If you're looking for a premium handheld that can handle serious gaming without compromise, the Ally X is absolutely worth it.

The ROG Ally X is a solid handheld gaming device that caters well to those with larger hands. Its ergonomic design offers a comfortable grip during extended play sessions, though it could benefit from slightly more contouring to prevent hand fatigue. Weighing in at just over a pound, it’s manageable for 5+ hours of upright gameplay, but when lying down, the weight becomes more noticeable, limiting comfort to about two hours before you need to readjust. Performance-wise, the Ally X shines with excellent optimization for Steam and Battle.net games. AAA titles run smoothly with no noticeable lag, making it a reliable choice for on-the-go gaming. The 512GB storage capacity is a significant upgrade over the base version, and it’s well worth the extra investment given the size of modern game libraries. Overall, the ROG Ally X is a fantastic handheld that justifies its higher price tag with superior storage and seamless performance, though some ergonomic refinements would elevate the experience even further.

Sure! Here’s a detailed and positive review for the ROG Ally X:
The ROG Ally X is an absolute game-changer in portable gaming. From the moment I powered it on, I was blown away by the stunning display and fluid performance. The vibrant 1080p screen with a high refresh rate makes every game look incredibly sharp and smooth, whether you’re playing fast-paced shooters or exploring open-world RPGs. ASUS has truly outdone themselves with this device.
What sets the ROG Ally X apart is its unparalleled versatility. It’s essentially a high-performance gaming PC that fits in your hands. The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor ensures seamless multitasking and handles AAA titles effortlessly. Even more impressive is the built-in compatibility with Xbox Game Pass, making it easy to dive into a massive library of games without additional setup.
The ergonomics are another highlight. The device feels great to hold for extended gaming sessions, with intuitive button placement and a solid grip. The battery life is surprisingly good for a device of this power, and the fast charging is a lifesaver when you’re on the go.
I also love the customizable options—whether it’s tweaking performance settings, optimizing cooling, or mapping controls to fit your playstyle, the Ally X gives you total control. Add to that its robust build quality and sleek design, and you have a device that not only performs but looks incredible while doing so.
Whether you’re a casual gamer or a hardcore enthusiast, the ROG Ally X delivers an unmatched experience. It’s not just a handheld console—it’s a portal to endless gaming possibilities. I can confidently say this is one of the best investments I’ve ever made in gaming tech. Highly recommended!

I picked up the ROG Ally 2 before building my first gaming PC, and honestly, I was blown away. It ran most of my favorite games like Black Ops 6 and FiveM at their highest settings and still gave me solid FPS. The screen is super clear, and the performance felt smooth for a device this size.
Battery life isn’t the best under heavy load, but that was never really a problem for me since I used the device docked 90% of the time. The controls took a little getting used to coming from console/PC, but once I adjusted, it felt natural. Overall, it’s a great option for anyone who wants powerful gaming performance in a portable package.

This is a great way to squeeze you way into pc gaming (kinda) if you want and as someone who's constantly on the go. Really cool its windows based cause the steam deck is just as good but its OS is limited to nearly have of steam games. But with the Ally x, its nice to be able to download other game launchers. Its can easily average at least 70-80 fps on it, of course I don't play many AAA games on it but for the ones i do, such as God of War Ragnarök, COD Black ops 6 and even Cyberpunk 2077, it plays great. Battery life is also a win, adjusting it through the built in interface to 17w for a balance of battery life as well as performance. And the it supports various sizes of NVMe drives is awesome. Planning to swap for a 2TB but the 1TB is great to have out the box.
Overall its a great PC handheld and hands down the best for its price.

The best battery life in the market of handheld pcs. The screen is buttery smooth at 120hz and when hooked up to a dock, you can use it as a normal computer thats super responsive with the ryzen z1 extreme chip powering it and 24gb of ram with 16gigs for system memory and 8gigs for the integrated gpu (the memory allocation can be changed in armory crate if you want more ram going to the gpu or less for cpu intensive tasks). For my usecase playing in bed and on the go, the battery life was my main concern and the rog ally x checks that box with its 80 watt hour battery that lasts much longer than other handheld pcs in the market (lenovo legion go ,and OG rog ally). If youre on the go often and dont want to constantly be plugged into a wall or power supply, then the rog ally x is a no brainer.

As someone who's always been a console gamer (mainly Xbox and PlayStation), and with my only handheld experience being the Nintendo Switch, I was pretty skeptical about diving into PC gaming with the ROG Ally X. However, after about a month of using it, I have to say I'm impressed—especially with how well it runs AAA games like Elden Ring. Playing with friends online has been an amazing experience, and once you get used to using Windows for gaming, it's not as daunting as it seems.
That said, there are a few issues I feel are worth mentioning:
Price Point: I wouldn't recommend this for the current price, especially if you're not planning to stick to AAA titles. In my opinion, you'd be better off going with an older model if you want to save some cash.
Open-Box Warning: I was fortunate enough to buy this open-box from BestBuy at a discounted price, but here's a heads-up: BestBuy does NOT test their open-box products. Mine arrived with a pretty serious issue—it wouldn't hold a charge and shut down every time I unplugged it. I nearly returned it, but decided to check the internals first. Turns out, the clip connecting the power supply wasn't even plugged in, and one side of it looks broken, which probably caused it to come loose. After plugging it back in, everything seems to be working now, but it was a stressful experience.
Quality Control Issues: Speaking of issues, Asus's quality control is a bit concerning. The console itself feels premium in some ways, but also surprisingly cheap in others. The horror stories you hear about defective units? I believe them now. So, buy at your own risk.
Ergonomics: For me, the console is uncomfortable to hold for extended periods. My wrists start to hurt after about an hour, and the lack of a grip makes it easy for the console to slip out of my hands—especially when they get sweaty. This is a big drawback compared to traditional controllers.
Button Feel: While most of the buttons, triggers, and analog sticks are fine, I'm not a fan of the face buttons. They feel a bit "mushy" when pressed. Maybe I'm just too used to the feel of the PS5 controller.
In hindsight, I think I would have opted for the older model of the ROG Ally with the Z1 Extreme chip, especially if I could find it open-box or used. Alternatively, I'd wait for the SteamDeck 2, as Valve seems to have better quality control and their console is reportedly more comfortable to hold.
Overall, while the ROG Ally X has its strengths, it's not without its flaws. It’s a good choice if you’re focused on AAA gaming and don't own a gaming PC, but there are definitely some trade-offs to consider.
