I'd recommend if you have the $$$
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone who's always been a console gamer (mainly Xbox and PlayStation), and with my only handheld experience being the Nintendo Switch, I was pretty skeptical about diving into PC gaming with the ROG Ally X. However, after about a month of using it, I have to say I'm impressed—especially with how well it runs AAA games like Elden Ring. Playing with friends online has been an amazing experience, and once you get used to using Windows for gaming, it's not as daunting as it seems. That said, there are a few issues I feel are worth mentioning: Price Point: I wouldn't recommend this for the current price, especially if you're not planning to stick to AAA titles. In my opinion, you'd be better off going with an older model if you want to save some cash. Open-Box Warning: I was fortunate enough to buy this open-box from BestBuy at a discounted price, but here's a heads-up: BestBuy does NOT test their open-box products. Mine arrived with a pretty serious issue—it wouldn't hold a charge and shut down every time I unplugged it. I nearly returned it, but decided to check the internals first. Turns out, the clip connecting the power supply wasn't even plugged in, and one side of it looks broken, which probably caused it to come loose. After plugging it back in, everything seems to be working now, but it was a stressful experience. Quality Control Issues: Speaking of issues, Asus's quality control is a bit concerning. The console itself feels premium in some ways, but also surprisingly cheap in others. The horror stories you hear about defective units? I believe them now. So, buy at your own risk. Ergonomics: For me, the console is uncomfortable to hold for extended periods. My wrists start to hurt after about an hour, and the lack of a grip makes it easy for the console to slip out of my hands—especially when they get sweaty. This is a big drawback compared to traditional controllers. Button Feel: While most of the buttons, triggers, and analog sticks are fine, I'm not a fan of the face buttons. They feel a bit "mushy" when pressed. Maybe I'm just too used to the feel of the PS5 controller. In hindsight, I think I would have opted for the older model of the ROG Ally with the Z1 Extreme chip, especially if I could find it open-box or used. Alternatively, I'd wait for the SteamDeck 2, as Valve seems to have better quality control and their console is reportedly more comfortable to hold. Overall, while the ROG Ally X has its strengths, it's not without its flaws. It’s a good choice if you’re focused on AAA gaming and don't own a gaming PC, but there are definitely some trade-offs to consider.

Amazing Handheld

The improved bigger battery compared to its predecessor is a game changer. I don’t need to carry my external battery anymore. Plays all my favorite games flawlessly and it’s so much fun. A high quality (gaming) handheld which can conquer any modern task.

ALLY X...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally X is undeniably powerful, with its 24 GB of RAM, and 1 TB SSD making it capable of handling even the most demanding games. The 1080p display with a 120 Hz refresh rate delivers impressive visuals, and the extended battery life is a welcome improvement. I also appreciate its versatility—running Windows 11 means I can access multiple game libraries without being locked into one ecosystem. However, my experience has been mixed. While Windows 11 offers flexibility, it’s not designed for handheld gaming, and navigating the interface can be frustrating. The device is also bulkier and heavier than I expected, which makes it less comfortable to use for extended periods. For something marketed as portable, it feels a bit cumbersome to carry around. The price is another sticking point. While the performance is impressive, I can’t help but feel that it’s overpriced, especially when other options like the Steam Deck offer similar functionality for less. Overall, while the ROG Ally X delivers in power and features, its awkward design and high cost leave me a bit underwhelmed.

Better than Steam Deck.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this portable computer. Can run games that are more demanding than I anticipated. Screen looks good, and touch sensitivity is good. Battery life is ok depending on how much you're demanding from the system. The fingerprint reader is not the best, but that could just be my dry hands. Will play Diablo 4, Gears Tactics, Palworld, 40k Rogue Trader

My Favorite Handheld
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this Asus ROG Ally X handheld open box and it did not disappoint. It's very comfortable in my hands and very convenient to move around my house and access games through my library. It's great for when I want to play something casually before bed and the battery life on it is really good for the smaller games. Battery drains a little faster on the bigger games, but not fast enough for me to complain about. I specifically got this handheld versus the others due to performance reviews and battery life. Maybe not as intuitive as possibly getting a steam deck, but of you treat it like the handheld computer it seems to be, you'll learn to navigate it pretty quickly. If you're looking for a decision to make between this and a steam deck, it's all about preference. The screen resolution is great, but doesn't come with OLED. It also does not have a trackpad or carrying case that the deck comes with. It does come with some dynamic wallpapers, startup videos, and what not. It just really boils down to preference, imo. If you're comparing to other PC handhelds, THIS is it. You can take my word for it, or someone else's! I'm not a tech person compared to most, but I'm not completely out of my element.

Asus Rog Ally X
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having a mini gaming PC anywhere is fun! I enjoy being able to take my steam games anywhere, with decent graphics and performance. The battery is great when you lower the settings. Performance is great when plugged in or not worried about battery life.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was torn between getting this and a steamdeck. Watched 20+ youtube review and comparison videos. Decided to grab this over deck for a few reasons including better battery, more game options, high power specs, windows os. Its a handheld computer. Loving it 0 complaints, if you have the money you will also love it. Stop thinking about it and just buy it !

A great gaming device!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll keep this short and sweet, everything you want to do on a standard gaming desktop or laptop, you can do that, and then some, on the ROG Ally X. I never feel it get hot after gaming for a few hours(about 3 or so), it's speedy and powerful enough to play all the games you want. I connect it often to a monitor or a tv with a USB-C hub, while using a wireless mouse and keyboard, and an 8bitDo SN30 Pro+ controller for classic games, and it's great. It's a tad bit heavy but nothing you can't adjust to.

Love it!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Epic handheld. I’ve been playing non stop since launch day and have yet to have a single complaint. The difference in battery life from the og is massive! Performance wise it’s about the same but the 1% lows will feel better on higher fps games and fps shooters though. It’s also nice being able to run Spotify and discord in the background without struggling for ram The comfort is massively better too and the overall job asus did was extremely good. Upgrading the nvme too was super easy and I love that we can use 2280nvme drives with a heat sink without modifying it. This handheld also is a modders dream. It’s been super fun to play with and do a few mods with as well.

Great improvement over the first iteration.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great improvement over the first iteration. No issues with the product so far, but I guess time will tell. I bought two. One for me and one for my daughter. Both devices are doing great. I appreciate the extra memory and battery. The first iteration was great, this one's excellent. Coming from a stream deck oled, i can truly appreciate the value of this gaming handheld. The steam deck was great but I felt it was a bit limited in the pc handheld space where , as to this and any other windows device, the possibilities are endless up to the hardware and software's lifespan. Kind of like apple and android, the steam deck is like apple and this is like android. Just like apple, steam deck runs as intended because thats built solely for gaming especially how the UI was built for Linux. Where as to the ROG Ally, just like an android, it's an open source not limited to software. You can run anything on this because it's windows. But it just takes a few more steps. But the new and improve armory crate software is a step in the right direction to making this easier to navigate windows. All in all, a truly great device

Rog Ally X is a significant upgrade
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A significant upgrade from my Anbernic 556. Literally a higher end windows PC I can put in my bookbag and go. Plays all my roms through Emudeck with ease without sacrificing visuals, frame rate, sound or controls. Unlike my prior handheld, it also plays modern titles like Stalker 2 cleanly. The 1TB storage may be an issue if you “carry” a lot of games. However, there is a slot for an SD card and the SSD can easily be upgraded (went with a 4TB Samsung SSD)

If you're on the fence, just hop on down to ROG
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you travel a lot, are a dad, or just want to lay down and play video games - this is the right choice. Basically, you could get a laptop for the same price but it won't be as portable and fun. I have quite the backlog of older games so it was a no brainer pick for me. When playing a 10 year old game, the battery lasts 5-6 hours. When playing a new AAA, it's about 2-3. It's really excellent, and even if you don't like windows you can install another OS like bazzite. This would allow you to just play games. The distinction here is if you play games with an anti-cheat, they sometimes only work on windows (and in which case you may be hooking up a mouse and keyboard, anyway). It's relatively easy to open up and mod as well. I added a 4 TB ssd and it fit a small heatsink as well (I believe 2 or 3 mm)

LOVE THIS THING!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything I found as a drawback to the OG ally z1e, they fixed with the X version. Better battery, more storage and most importantly 24gigs of ram which will fix any stuttering with games that might have challenged the OG. Bottom line. Don’t settle for the OG ally when there’s the X.

A must have for any gamer.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rog ally x has changed gaming in a way that I thought wasn’t possible in my lifetime. The capabilities and combinations of games that you can play at high settings is astounding. I can get 5 plus hours of handheld play on rocket league without being plugged into anything. Want steam os games? No problem 3 minute download, want Xbox cloud streaming or game pass ultimate, no problem another 3 minute download, on and on and on. I’ve been so glued to the first 8 games I’ve downloaded that I haven’t even scratched the surface of all there is to offer. I have an Xbox x and it hasn’t seen power ever since I picked up this device. I could easily see myself playing AAA games for The next 4 years on this thing no problem, giving it that nice future proofing that everyone is looking for. I grew up with the n64/ gameboy, then ps1 xbox, ps2 gba, ds ds lite Nintendo switch. All of it. Now imagine being able to play all of those plus the games with emulation that windows allows. This is truly the best device to be able to have all of your games at your fingertips.

The Ally X is AMAZING!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ally X is an amazing device. The main things that I love about the Ally X is the 120hz IPS screen, the GFX capabilities, the awesome 24GB of RAM, and the amazing 80WH battery. While the screen size is not as large as some other devices (7 inch screen), the smoothness of the 120hz (along with FSR, etc) makes gameplay feel so silky smooth! You can even tweak the settings to allocate a specified amount of RAM toward GFX usage. And then on top of being able to do this, the raw GFX processing power of the Ally X compared to other handhelds like the Steamdeck makes games look and feel that much more immersive. And the cherry on top? The 80WH battery. I can get a good couple of hours of gameplay at 25W Turbo mode with the games I play (Spiderman 2 remastered + Miles Morales, Call of Duty, etc). I know 2025 will bring new and exciting handhelds that may be a slight upgrade over the Ally X but if you can snag the Ally X on sale, it is definitely worth it! (I got mine during a $100 off sale).

Instead of Shipping, I picked up at my nearest Bes
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First yes I picked this up at Best Buy it was much Safer than Shipping because of ally the porch pirates, stealing packages, epically the post office sometimes they lose it, damage the item or even might steal it and replace with another packages, trust me, I bought a Steam Deck and it got stolen because someone replaced the package with shoes and the package itself was Steam package. Second I have to update everything epically the Wifi Driver you got to delete the wifi driver and put a new wifi driver from Asus website and luckily i bought the dock, download the new wifi driver and put into my flash drive, extract it and run the wifi driver. Than for 5 days Keep entering the wrong wifi password because I forgot I have a new Wifi Provider than my Old Wifi Provider, so that was my fault. Last I ran everything my games run smoothly and faster, download speed is fast and updates too. This has 24gb of ram and the graphics card is like maybe 3080 possible 4020. Overall I love this thing and so would you.

This is the one to get.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While it is a bit on the expensive side, this is by far the best handheld PC you can buy right now. All the improvements over the original ROG Ally are welcome and make it really easy to recommend the Ally X over any of the other handheld PC. Great battery life, best in class performance, and easily upgradable to 4TB of storage without an SD card.
