Customers often highlight the ROG Ally X's overall performance, improved battery life, and ideal balance of portability and power as key strengths. The device also receives positive feedback for its screen quality, game compatibility, storage capacity, ample RAM, efficient heat dissipation, and acceptable noise levels. While the device is considered a bit heavy, the primary concern appears to be the user experience with the operating system.

Desktop Power in a Handheld
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROG Ally X is an absolute beast for gaming on the go. The 120Hz screen looks incredible, smooth, bright, and perfect for fast-paced games. It runs AAA titles flawlessly, and the upgraded battery life is a huge win. The controls feel premium, and the cooling system keeps everything stable during long sessions. ASUS nailed the balance between power and portability with this one.

Travel Buddy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Being able to play almost any game on the go is crazy. If you are coming from console, there is a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it (set up, adjusting graphics, settings), the Ally X is a beast! Tons of YouTube videos out there to help as well. Yes, the Switch 2 is cheaper, but you’ll be stuck playing Nintendo games only. The Ally X is a mini PC and can play practically any game available. Oh, and since it’s a PC, you can dock it if you want, hook up monitors, and work on the go. Looking at performance, price, battery life, and storage, the Ally X is the best handheld PC in the current market (2024/2025).

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is very powerful for its size and very well ventilated never over heats even on turbo 30w max settings. Can run Black ops 6 at a decent 85-100fps in multiplayer at all max settings! On battery it has a good 3-4 hour battery life decent for traveling or movile gaming! Quick charging with the 50w charger gain 20% WHILE gaming on turbo in 30 min!

Awesome Addition to Gaming Platforms
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am predominantly a PC gamer. The Rog Alley has been huge, allowing me to still game but not be hidden in my office. Being able to game away from my PC without sacrificing the experience has been awesome. Easy to use, great graphics and battery life. Definitely worth every penny for an avid gamer!

Great performance
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the device for about a month, and so far I think it works great. I had some concern about the windows OS issues, but I really didn't think it was that big of a deal to navigate. I did have to adjust graphics on a few games for better performance, but the device seems to handle all of the games that I've tried really well. The battery life is OK, should last 2-4 hours, depending on the game. Definitely recommend.

True PC Handheld Gaming Realized
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Enjoyed the ROG ALLY X but it wasn’t perfect and had a lot of things that I and the community wanted such as 2280 compatibility, 2 usb c ports with thunderbolt, tighter joysticks, more RAM, and of course more battery. Asus heard us and brought out the Ally X with everything the community wanted and more. I wasn’t sure how committed to gaming handhelds Asus was but this iteration of the Ally has shown me that they are in it to win it and I’m really excited to see more improvements to the device and the future of Asus in this space. The Ally X plays pretty much everything. Currently Star Wars Outlaw and Black Myth Wukong are playable as well as Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, Horizon, and more. The one game that still needs work is Space Marine 2. It is really the first game I’ve seen struggle to be playable in some form but with the devs looking at making it steamdeck compatible, I expect it will be very playable on the Ally X by the end of the year. Not only does it play nearly everything but now you can play AAA games with higher TDP settings for 2 hours or more. I don’t check the battery every 5 minutes like I used to for the Ally. For lower powered games this thing could last you on a 10 hour flight and for more powerful games you could still play from 2-6 hours. It is expensive but it is a premium device. Is it worth it, only the individual can say. I will say that if you’re looking for a pc gaming handheld, this is the best you can get right now.

Unit crashes on bootup adter AC updates
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it and was able to play games just fine. I went to do the armory crate updates & once I restarted it, it now hard freezes upon booting into windows. I tried doing the cloud restore and that failed miserably, it somehow got another ASUS windows install and didnt get any of the proper drivers. I went and downloaded armory crate from the ASUS site and then it again started locking up upon booting into windows after updating. I should've kept the Leigon GO

Very good device!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good handheld device! Battery life is very decent, depending on the type of games you play. Performance is good and using website ROG Ally Life will help you get the best performance possible for most games. It's very customizable but Armory Crate is a very serviceable UI, in my opinion. I travel a lot for work so this helps flights or relaxing nights at the hotel go by smoother/faster. I don't play as much as I used to back in the day but having this on the go really helps scratch the itch of wanting to play. Also, I was able to get this before the tariffs came into effect but I still think it's worth it for people who love to play video games.

Amazing device, only wish it were a "TRUE" Ally 2
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing handheld, wishing it was an Ally 2 instead of a refresh although I'm happy Asus made it 24GB of RAM and with an 80mwh battery. I own a Steam Deck and held off purchasing the original Ally 1 as the CEO stated a new Ally device was in the works so the Ally X is perfect for me and my patience. Performance is around 5% to 10% faster than last year's Z1 extreme APU depending on the title. Device feels really nice in the hands and runs cooler and quiet vs my friend's original Ally extreme. I would've been happy and content with my Steam Deck but wanted to play all of my Xbox Gamepass games and free Epic store games without a lot of fuss or workarounds which the Ally X does perfectly. I like Windows and I'm not a laymen so I'm able to tinker, update effortlessly without hassle. I only wish Microsoft would refine a more streamlined portable version of Windows for handhelds without the bloat. Hopefully that'll come in time for the true Ally 2 in a couple years. In summary, if you want to play more than only Steam games and don't already own an original Ally, the Ally X is an amazing device if you're not turned off by the higher price.

Great revision of the Ally
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the original ROG Ally and decided to get the Ally X. It’s great to not have to worry about memory since this comes with 24gb. The new placement of the buttons and sticks do feel better in the hand. The one thing I noticed was the weight. It is heavier than the original Ally but with the better battery life it’s something I’d trade. If you don’t have an Ally I highly recommend getting the Ally X. Plays most games modern games at stable frame rates.

Asus took our feedback, and made it better.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a solid representation of when someone takes feedback, and actually implements changes according to that feedback. Ergonomics are enhanced, less harsh edges resting in your palms, a little more handle to hold on to in the back, and redesigned thumb sticks all contribute to a better feel in the hands, and all in a positive direction. Performance gains are small, a few frames here and there, but in some games, it's night and day smoother to play, the additional, and faster ram contributes to less stutters and pop in on titles that load a lot into memory often. Double your fun with double the battery? OK< so it's brute forcing the battery life problems of handheld gaming PCs, but results are results, the 80Wh batter is going to keep you off the charger for longer than any of the competition. Yea, it's going to take a little longer to charge now, but if you spring for a 100w charger, you can cut down some of that time. And probably one of my favorite feature changes, USB4 replaces the XG Mobile connector. Giving more options for accessories and docks, and egpu enclosures for those that want to give this mighty portable, and even mightier desktop experience. If ASUS can get their Customer Service and Warranty practices in line, and improve that reputation, I think they have a winner here. Asus really needed this to go well, to make up for some of the originals faults.

A proper PC gaming handheld.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the OG Ally in May and kept it for 59 days before returning it. During that time I preordered the X and went through a 5 day gap without a handheld. Now the X is finally here and it’s lived up to the hype, plus more! For starters, the battery life is superb and the new 17w power mode is great. Being able to allocate more to VRAM is also a huge perk. The increased joystick resistance quite literally changes the game for the Ally and FPS titles, it’s like an entirely new experience from the original. The back M1/M2 placement is brilliant in comparison to the OG, and all of the buttons feel overall more responsive. The black is very sleek, it’s not much thicker than the OG, and overall temperatures seem much cooler to the physical touch without adjusting fan curves. I’ve also been running emulators off my Samsung EVO SD card with no issues. This has been an excellent upgrade and I’m proud to claim the Ally X as my one and only gaming handheld, for now. I’ve gotten hands on with both the Steam Deck and the Legion Go, the Ally is the better no gimmick Windows handheld on the market in my opinion. It’s a bit of a price tag, but you’ve got an entire gaming PC and controller with you in a portable package. Highly recommend! PS — I ordered mine the day of the announcement and got it the day after launch. Don’t let bad reviews due to launch day delays deter you from investing in a great product and it’s lame to review bomb stuff because of that.
