Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the ROG Ally X's overall performance, improved battery life, and ideal balance of portability and power as key strengths. The device also receives positive feedback for its screen quality, game compatibility, storage capacity, ample RAM, efficient heat dissipation, and acceptable noise levels. While the device is considered a bit heavy, the primary concern appears to be the user experience with the operating system.

Honestly hardware wise, it is a sound and perfectly good portable computer. It isn't to hard to use, though you do find yourself going through a ton of windows since it is a windows computer made compact. The times I've used it it worked very well, but honestly haven't gotten too much use myself. It's nice to have the option to upgrade it at the store, and if you are looking for a windows substitute for the Steam Deck I would definitely recommend it. Overall works like a steam deck with the added benefit of having windows os, so works like a computer. I did have some issues with some games but the touch screen helps with most things.

I love this thing! Ive had it for a couple of weeks now and it has completely changed the way I game. I can now play full AAA games from anywhere: waiting in the car for my wife? BAM! Sitting on the couch and have a few mintues? BOOM! Nothing to do at work? KAPOWIE! It plays my xbox PC games, my Playstation PC games, and Ive heard there is a way to do Nintendo Roms but havent tried it yet The screen looks great and the battery will run for a few hours without even needing to plug in. I recommend a 10ft 100w usbc cable and a 100w charger plug and you can play while you charge. (It comes with a 65w which will totally work but 100w will get you charged faster if you even care) If you want to get really crazy you could get an eGPU and dock this like a desktop or a game console and then sell all of your other electronics! I highly recommend this!

The ROG Ally X easily offers the best performance of any handheld I’ve used. The additional RAM and increased battery capacity are great upgrades that noticeably improve the overall experience. That said, navigating Windows without a built-in trackpad is incredibly frustrating. While the performance is top-tier, the lack of a trackpad made daily use cumbersome enough that I ultimately had to return it. For the price, it’s also disappointing that a protective case isn’t included—something I’ve come to expect from competitors like the Steam Deck and Legion Go. If ASUS adds a trackpad in the next iteration, this could truly be the perfect device. As it stands now, I liked it—but I can’t confidently recommend it.

I travel a lot for work and being able to play my PC games ok the go is amazing. Excellent battery life. Can play black ops 6 for 2 hours with out a charge and the plugged in experience enabling turbo mode is excellent. Windows on handhelds still sucks, but once the game is running, the overall gaming experience is fun.

Great mini PC. I wanted to ideally wait a few more years on mini PC's until the next generation of chips come out but after getting a great deal I gotta say I'm impressed. It's obviously not a great gaming experience for newer AAA titles, but I've been playing a ton of sim games and older AAA titles on here flawlessly in handheld mode. When I'm home from work I can dock it to my TV and continue to play or just use it as a PC. Great little screen on this thing and great feeling controls. Playing City Skylines 2 on Turbo mode I get about 1.5 hours handheld which hasn't been too bad for me.

This has been a game changer. I still typically prefer my gaming pc over this due to its just more powerful. It does much higher resolution at much better frames per second. That being said this has its areas it shines. First and foremost its mobile. You can pack it up and take it anywhere. The battery life even though this one is larger than its predecesor still dosen't last long when palying AAA games. This gets used more for me when i don't feel like sitting at my desk on the desktop, and would rather lay in bed with the wife watching tv and still get some gaming in. The storage was still a little lack luster so i did upgrade it to 2TB.

Best handheld gaming so far! If you want mobility and have fun on the go, this unit is the one to get. The battery life is great and the viewing in sunlight is easy to see. The first initial setup is a challenge, but once you have it set, all things come to life when playing intense games on this unit.

If you have a tighter budget and you’re looking for something to game on, you need to invest in the Ally X. I set mine up with a docking station that connects the Ally to a PC monitor, as well as a USB keyboard and wireless mouse. Excellent performance, a surprisingly generous battery life for gaming on the go, and honestly this is my most favorite tech purchase so far. I am thoroughly impressed with my FPS. (70+)

I've been using this for a few months now. I have used an original Ally, a Steam Deck, and a Steam Deck OLED. The Steam Deck OLED has a prettier screen but that's it. Every other aspect is better. The compatibility with software since it runs Windows, the performance is better than Steam Deck, the ports, the cooling. I have yet to have a better handheld gaming experience. Is it expensive? Yes, 100%. But if you want the best PC handheld money can buy, this is it.

Great device very portable. The performance is fantastic. I’ve been playing Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Hogwarts Legacy, and they all run between 45–60 FPS on medium to high settings with FSR turned on. It handles modern games like a champ, and the extra 24GB of RAM actually helps in multitasking—I’ve had Discord, Chrome, and Steam running in the background with no slowdown.

Love this, I have a PC at home and was dabbling with the idea of a laptop. Got this after some trial and error, and I am happy with the purchase. It runs my games fine and is easily transportable. There are some features or selections that may be confusing to someone who has not owned a PC before as this is basically a computer with a controller as a keyboard, just watch tiktoks to iron out the quirks.

    ASUS ROG ALLY EXTREME REVIEW

SImply an amazing little product. Plays games like The First Descendant and Warframe great off of a WiFi connection and plays other like SKyrim, Fallout IV, etc to perfection. It does struggle with newer titles, however due to the extensive library of thousands of titles and the consumer appeal of a small windows 11 machine and I would rate this above any current handheld hands down. I have literally helped my wife with her homework while this was docked on the TV mode. Excellent buy, as a laptop with similiar features will cost just as much and doesnt allow the portability.

The Rog Ally X Is Pretty Awesome , Battery Life Outstanding On AAA Game Titles. And Even Better With Games That's Not As Demanding. Beautiful 7" 1080p Full HD Screen Looks Good Crisp Great Color With Vrr. Ergos Are Really Good Very Balanced Feels Good In The Hands. Doesn't Get Hot At All , Slight Warmth From The Screen But Normal In Terms Of Temp. Very Impressed I Got To Say , It's The Best Value To Preformance Ratio. Try And Find A New Laptop With The 80wh Batt. , Z1 Extreme Or (Ryzen 7 8840u) Chipset , 500 nit Brightness Screen , 24gb Mem. , 1Tb Storage You Can't. Great Deal Even Still In 2025.

I personally think it's better than a steam deck, mainly because you don't have to worry about if the game has anti cheat or not, you can just play anything. Functions like a small computer, plays smoothly, if you put turbo mode on then the graphics are actually pretty good.

Great device for gaming on the go or somewhere in your home separate from your normal set up. I’ve mainly played single player games via Xbox game pass at this point and the games does excellent. I’ve don’t some minor attempts at BO6 and Apex but because of the amount of settings to optimize the gaming experience, I haven’t taken the time to truly test these out yet. The device feels solid. Battery life playing something like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is roughly 3ish hours in performance mode, but I think that could be extended if I changed the settings further. Overall, very pleased.

X works slightly better than the Z1

I got my Rog at 11:30 p.m. yesterday, Tuesday. OnCrack left my package outside. Best Buy needs to stop using OnCrack. If I knew BBY would use them, I would have picked store pickup; I would rather wait a few more days than wait for the delivery. I have the Z1 and the new X. Both perform well and meet all my expectations for mobile gaming. I travel often, and I have carried a large 15-inch Razer before. Without the laptop, just the Razer's power supply weighs about 5 lbs. Having the Rog reduces my travel weight. I only had time to install and play a few games, such as Star Rail, Diablo 3, and Madden 2024, using the default graphic settings. The fan is definitely not as loud as the Z1's, and the back is also not as warm. The default Armory set the graphic to use 8GB of memory, which is a nice touch for me (so far). I don't have any benchmark to compare, but the games feel more snappy with the extra memory. Well, this is what I expected: more memory, better cooling, and higher battery capacity. Was it a $800 upgrade? At this point, no. If you have a Z1, this is not a $800 upgrade. If you are new, skip the Zs and get the X.
