Great Deal of Flexibility for the Price
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went looking for a laptop that was strong enough to play a few games and could do some basic word processing or utilize the Google product like Docs/Sheets. I didn't need a full fledged gaming laptop since I wasn't planning on playing any best duty AAA games. The low tier gaming laptops started at $1,200 and the Ally was $700 after a discount. For another $60, I was able to get a docking station, keyboard and mouse. It runs everything I want it to run and it can even run some heavier duty titles like Baulder's Gate 3 if it's plugged in. It's basically become my main entertainment device. The touch screen is really good. It has the Windows 11 interface if you don't want to use the ROG interface. I can put any software that runs on Windows on it (Steam, Xbox Game Pass, a PlayStation 5 streaming app. It has a large hard drive (this one was 1TB) so you can install games locally and don't have to worry about streaming over bad Wi-Fi. There's also a microSD card slot and they sell 1.5TB fast microSDs for less than $100 now. The buttons can be a little loud but it's not bad. I definitely recommend a screen protector and a case. The screen is very exposed and with the joy sticks it doesn't slide easily into a bag or backpack. I personally love it. Great deal for the price. I hope it lasts me several years. Note, my picture shows a screen protector and case which were not included)

Impressive
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this instead of the steam deck and I have no regrets at all. Both are good and the Ally has far less restrictions on the games you can buy/play. The screen even though not OLED like the Steam deck is noticeably sharper and clear (the steam decks colors are more vivid for sure). The power of the ally really lets you get great FPS/graphics balance with some tinkering. If you got the money the ROG Ally X is a top choice, if you’re on a budget get the steam deck OLED it’ll do you just fine

found my ally:)
|Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.very happy with my rog ally x!!! i originally pruchased rhe leigion go, but quickly changad my mind and went with the ally x…for that extra touch of performance in ram and better battery life. although the LGO has that FPS mode which is very cool imo, my main focus was raw performance, which is exactly what rhe ally x brings:). Games such as cod mw3 with performance optimization settings ROGs command center, and low to medium graphics in game gives you a good 90-100 FPS.

Amazing
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I have a PS5, but I moved countries and couldn’t bring it with. I really itched to play some video games and my phone games weren’t cutting it. So I did a lot of research on gaming handhelds and compared this with the Legion Go, Steam deck (LCD and OLED), and just for fun, the switch. I liked the Legion Go’s big screen appeal and checked it out in store and the Rog ally. I was pleasantly surprised by how big the screen of the Rog ally is in person. Of course the legion go’s screen is bigger and it has the removable control sticks but at the point, I thought, I may as well just get a monitor with a mouse and keyboard. But still cool and the feature of removing one of the control sticks and using it as a mouse appealed to me but after thinking about it, it sounded a little gimmicky and I probably would actually never use it. But anyway, after getting the Rog ally X, I haven’t regretted my decision one bit. I could’ve easily returned it and gotten the legion Go but I see no need. I started playing my fav Indie games via steam like Kingdoms and Castles, Hollow Knight, Cocoon, Inside and I was blown away that it could achieve such graphic fidelity at native 1080p while being locked to 70+ frames. I expected this because they’re not GPU intensive games, so I downloaded Battlefield V, RDR2, Delta Force. Their frames were great, especially RDR2. From the in game benchmark I got an average of 60fps or more with the graphic settings set to medium-Ultra. So in essence, you will not regret buying this. I promise you will love it and maybe, if the price is too steep, wait till the price drops when ASUS releases Z2 chip in a new model.

ROG ALLY X is a great jump into handheld gaming.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally jumped on the hand held gaming trend. Coming from switch, switch lite and also a Logitech G-cloud I wanted something with a little more to offer. Gaming is fantastic on the Ally X. Graphics and FPS is right up there with my Xbox SX or PS5. Haven’t had any serious issues besides turning it off to hibernate while taking breaks in between gaming and loading back up the Ally X, it acts a little wonky. Sometimes a quick reset will fix it, sometimes it works fine with whatever game I was playing at the time. The only downsides or minimal complaints I have are the desktop mode is a bit messy and feels like the windows OS isn’t designed for touchscreen functionality. Typing anything on the virtual keyboard is a chore. Windows has way too much bloat ware they try to sell or make me subscribe too as if this unit is a desktop computer or laptop. I just wanna game on it not write a term paper. Overall I enjoy how impressive gaming on the ally X is. Haven’t fired up my Xbox or PS5 or gaming laptop since buying this. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants a pick up and go type game console. With the market flooded with various models, I feel this the best move for bang for the buck.

Pretty great, but not perfect.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ally X checks a lot of boxes and misses a few as well. I've had the Ally X for a good amount of time now and here are my pros and cons - Pros: Big enough battery to keep you gaming for a good stretch of time even in demanding games like Helldivers 2. Cooling system is excellent and the device does not warm up too much in hand even while plugged in and gaming at 30W. Flexibility - this can connect to a compatible Thunderbolt 4 dock supporting multiple monitors for your typical office workload then when your work is done just unplug and game on. Cons: Size - if you have larger hands this device will not be great for you, but it is doable. This is more of a small-medium size hand device in my opinion. Analog sticks are terrible for shooters. You can install an aftermarket set for cheap without being a hardware expert though. Much more expensive than the original Ally with the Z1 Extreme with basically the same in game performance - the price difference may not be worth it depending on your needs. If you were like me and just wanted to see what was up in the world of PC handhelds while already having a main gaming rig, I highly recommend getting this refurbished from BB to save some of your hard-earned money. Overall I'm happy with my Ally X.

Impressive…most impressive
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been pleasantly surprised by the capability of Ally X. It has handled a range of games incredibly well and the battery life has been legitimately solid when in performance mode (which was my biggest beef with the OG Steam Deck). I use mine for Xbox Game Pass predominantly and it has worked very well. Indiana Jones in particular has been awesome on the Ally X. The hardware is solid and has held up to travel well. All in all, I highly recommend.

Phenomenal performance for the size
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this handheld. Having a powerful desktop had me worried that a portable handheld wouldn’t be able to hold up when playing my games, but I was wrong. This device is phenomenal to have for trips and such where I can’t use my desktop.

Powerful little PC
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my new Asus Rog Ally X. This device is comfortable to hold and is very versatile in gaming software. I can use Microsoft, Steam, other other sites, like EPIC, Rockstar, etc. The 1TB hard drive allows for me to have plenty of storage and I added a 512GB micro SD card for other files I would like access to. The 24GB ram allows fast response times. The downside is windows can be glitchy from time to time, so make sure to back up your games. I would have given five stars if I didn't have to reset it twice within the first month of using it, but all is better now.

Loving the Ally X!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The performance of the Ally X blew me away. It seemed like anything I threw at it, the X handled it with ease. I also docked it while on vacation and it was fantastic!! I would recommend this device to anybody who is interested in a mobile gaming experience that can also become a sit down console for most games.

Best handheld Gaming Pc!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rog ally is an amazing gaming device. The Rog X is even better. Everything is upgraded except for the screen, that’s the same. The audio, buttons, ram, battery, internal storage, and ergonomics are better. The only thing I don’t like are the back m1 and m2 buttons. I prefer the original ally m1 and m2 buttons more but over all it’s a great portable gaming pc. it’s probably the best one on the market. If you already have an ally I don’t think it’s worth it to upgrade unless you just have money to spend like that, but If you don’t have one definitely pick this one up.

Okay, so I have some thoughts.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So where to start on this. I guess we will go with performance. Keeping in mind that this is not some powerful pc, but a handheld console that is running windows with a mobile chip, it’s pretty good. I’ve been able to get smaller games like potion craft, early final fantasy games, and others at 100 frames+. I was able to get games like stray at 45-60 frames (depending on lighting by and particles) and ratchet and clank: rift apart at 35-45 frames. (This is at medium settings as well) all in all, playable and not too terrible. Great for non AAA games. On top of this, because it runs windows, you can have access to all of your other game library’s in one spot using armory crate (comes “pre installed” to the console) works well enough and in most cases better than if you were running it on just a desktop. Next, let’s talk ergonomics. The console is comfortable. I can’t argue that the joysticks feel good to use and the buttons have a nice resistance to them. Even the touch screen was bearable. The only think I would want to have added would be a touch pad for mouse input. Not a necessity I know, but would be a good quality of life feature for the next version *cough* Aside from the normal steam, epic, gog, and Xbox games; this console does very well emulating PlayStation games using PPSSPP and Nintendo games as well. Fantastic emulator console. The only thing I’ve been on the fence about has been cost. 800$, to be fair, isn’t a bad cost and is fair for what you are getting with current tech. But these are the beginning of these consoles and there will be better for better cost at some point. If you don’t have a computer, sure. Get it. It’s great. But for 800? I have a hard time justifying the cost currently if you already have a pc to play these on. As far as Best Buy is concerned however….. I got my ally from the store and there was a dented corner of the box …. Granted, this was just the box. The console was fine. But, being the nerd I am, I would have loved for the box to be UNDAMAGED when I picked it up. Kinda hard to want to keep the box on a shelf to show off when the corner is knocked in All in all though, it is a good console and you will have fun with the thing. See yall online!

Amazing Handheld Gaming Experience!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just purchased my Ally X a few weeks ago and I'm obsessed! I was going back and forth between the Ally X and the Steam deck, but ultimately settled on the Ally for its performance, comfortable controls, and the fact that it just looks cool. You can easily access and switch between steam and Xbox games without downloading different apps. I play POE 2, Elden Ring, and play cloud based games with no issues! Plus, it's very simple to tinker with the settings depending on what you value when gaming.

Best value for money in the handheld market.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned it currently own more than my share of handheld gaming devices. Started with the Switch OLED, then the Steam Deck OLED, the Ally Z1E which I returned due to battery life and other issues. Currently I have the above mentioned Switch OLED, the Lenovo Legion Go, the ROG Ally X, and recently the MSI Claw 8 ai+. I haven't had enough time to properly review the Claw 8 so for right now at least the Ally X is still king. It's exactly what a windows handheld gaming PC should be. The software is by far the best of any device I've owned. The device just works. The ergonomics are great, especially with a Killswitch case. With the Z1E and 24gb of ram it's able to run most anything I throw at it. The only downside I've found is the screen size. Don't get me wrong, the VRR is great and the colors are punchy and bright. 7" just isn't enough for my eyes. Hence the acquisition of the Claw 8 ai. Remains to be m seen which between the two will come out on top. But if you're in the market for a handheld, and given the fact that the claw 8 is virtually impossible to find, you can't go wrong with the Ally X. Especially if you can get it open box ;)

After tinkering, it's my dream come true
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Im fortunate enough to have this and a Steam Deck oled. I love my Deck and wouldn't trade it for the world. But this caught me off guard with how great the graphics are. You dont need an OLED screen when you have 120 fps and 24 gig ram. Its well worth it. Here are two tips. Youtube how to put it into hibernation mode instead of sleep. Its easy. Also, Youtube how to add a drive for the SD card, it took a minute to figure out. You then have to go into steam, exit big picture mode and and go into settings and add the SD card there as well. After these two things, it is literally a portable handheld gaming PC. Have fun.
