Why Get this over the Streaming Stick+?

I have a Streaming Stick+ for another tv in my house. Great product and most reviews say get that on over this Premiere because you get the 5GHZ WiFi and you can control the tv volume and power the tv off. The advantage to this Premiere in my opinion is that you can connect your own HDMI cord to it and since it is a basic IR Roku, you can control it via your universal remote like a Logitech Harmony remote where you can't do that if you bought the Streaming Stick+. So my tv and soundbar is mounted over my fireplace and the ports on the tv are hard to get to. It's 4k and the soundbar has 4K pass through and I had my TV guy run 3 HDMI cords to the nearby cabinet so I can hook up future stuff. If I were to go with the Roku Streaming stick+ I would have to connect it to the TV, power it with the tv USB and then the sound would be sent to my soundbar via HDMI ARC. The problem is HDMI ARC isn't 100% reliable so at times it would output just the tv sound and I would have to restart the system to get it to output to the soundbar. With the Premiere I can hook it straight up to the HDMI that is connected to my soundbar bar and then it goes from there to the HDMI ARC on the tv. This is more reliable in that if the ARC messes up the sound still outputs out of the soundbar and I don't have to restart the whole system to get the sound to work again. Also, I can connect my harmony remote to it so I can just have 1 remote and I can bounce between this and my apple tv, blueray player etc. The WiFi isn't as good on this, but my router is right beside where it will sit so it's a mute point for me. Hope this helps!

The device is very easy to install and works great. I was surprised by the amount of free programming on the Roku Channel itself. This particular model does not come as a "stick" like most of the others, instead it is a small box with an HDMI cord that plugs into the TV, and a power cord that plugs into an outlet. The remote works by IR so the box must be in line-of-sight for reception. These restraints did not concern me, but if you want a 'stick' version with Bluetooth control you'll have to spend $10-20 more on the newer Streaming Stick or Streaming Stick+ models. Although the streaming functions are the same as the newer models, which are excellent, I only give this model 4 stars because the remote control does not include TV power and volume control, although I knew that going in. If you are willing to spend more for the Streaming Stick models, I would go with the 'plus' version which incorporates a better antenna than any of the others; they both include the newer WIFI 802.ac standard, TV power and volume controls on the remote (along with some supposed voice control features). I only purchased this cheaper model because it's for a secondary older TV and the WIFI reception worked well enough. I preferred any of the Roku models over Chromecast because I want to have an actual remote control and not have to rely on a smartphone!

    Good Alternative to Cable

I am not a fan of satellite TV and got tired of the high cable bills. I looked into the fiber optic cable alternative, but could not get the price/installation quality I wanted. Roku turned out to be the best option. I use my providers internet application option. I don't pay rent on any boxes. I am limited to a certain mix of channels, but all I need is available. In addition, Roku provides many free programming options for movies and older TV shows you can watch on demand. You can also add many of the pay services like CBS All Access if you like. I got the Roku units on sale for 25% off. The cost of the Roku units will be paid back after just 3 months with this new arrangement. After that I save $80 every month. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the on demand service from Roku sometimes hangs up or buffers frequently. This has happened 3 times in 2 weeks for about 10 minutes each time. It is not caused my internet service because I monitor that and there is plenty of bandwidth.

My original reason for purchasing was for the Xfinity app. I wanted to get rid of any extra cable boxes. The Xfinity app works pretty well. Lose some of the cable search features and things but this being on a secondary TV is not a big deal at all. Have not had any issue streaming cable (or anything else). Roku was easy to set up and connect all of my accounts - Netflix, Hulu, Prime. My only real knock on it is the remote. It's not great. There is an app that allows the use of cell phone for remote which is an upgrade. I also had a universal remote that I wasn't using that I connected and it works well with the Roku. Remote that come standard is my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 but I guess I could've paid more for one of the better packages.

For years I had a Roku 3 which had a Dual Band Wi-Fi antenna so I could hook it up to my 5G Wireless network. I recently upgraded to the Roku premiere and noticed but it only sees 2G broadcast. So far it's not been an issue with the speed is fast enough for it to display without any buffering. These make excellent TV boxes for your bedroom or office. If you are planning to hook it up to a primary entertainment system with a 4K television I would recommend either the premiere Plus or the Roku Ultra because it contains an ethernet port. I actually have an Nvidia Shield on my primary entertainment system because of its Superior performance. But I like the roku's for the bedrooms because they are relatively inexpensive and function quite well

I haven't used this too much but the limited time I have has been good. It was very easy to install and fairly easy to add channels and watch shows. The only complaint I have was that I took it on a trip with me but I wasn't able to get it connected to the TV in the hotel. Searches on the web indicated that during the connection process, I should be able to indicate that I was at a hotel and then be able to connect to the hotel's internet. I would get the pop-up about being a hotel less than 25% of the time when I tried to connect (and I tried A LOT). I never was able to connect at the hotel.

If you're looking for streaming on a budget, this is the Roku for you. The Roku Premiere 4K is fast and fluid although not as fast as my Roku Streaming Stick+. With an existing Roku account, setting this up for the first time is easy! It does 4K and works with WiFi 802.11n. It is very similar to my Streaming Stick+ but lacks some of its cool features like WiFi 802.11ac and voice control. So.......... If you're looking for a quick Roku fix and 4k compatibility, get the Roku Premiere 4K. But for an extra $20, you get a few more perks with the Streaming Stick+. Both have that Roku quality and are recommended.

The Roku Premiere+ for $40.00 is a great deal! This is my 2nd Roku. (Other one is an Ultra for $90.) The ultra has pretty much identical features, but the major plus on the Ultra is the remove control with the added function of TV on/off and volume. The Roku Premiere+ unfortunately has NO TV controls, but I think you can buy and pair it with Roku Voice remote for an additional 20.00. Even if an upgraded controller, the Premiere+ would still be less than an Ultra. So besides having to juggle between 2 controllers for now, we're fairly happy with our purchase.

I purchased this Roku to use solely as a replacement for my Comcast Cable Box. Comcast recently increased the rental fee on their box to $13. I figured that for $29 on sale, that the Roku would pay for itself in a little over 2 months. The Roku enables me to utilize the Xfinity Streaming App adequately. The problem is the Roku wasn't designed to handle all the functions of a TV. Even going back to a previous channel takes several steps. For my purpose, it meets my needs.

This is the 5th Roku unit that I have bought. The response is much better than it's predecessors. Set up is easy and the WiFi is easy to connect to. The remote is back to a line of sight system rather than WiFi so you will need to place this small unit where you can point the remote at it. It works with 4K and HDR. It does not connect to WiFi at 5ghz, just 2.4ghz. Also, the supplied HDMI cable is very short (about 3 ft).

Good for Netflix - Not to replace TV Cable Adapter

At the recommendation of an Verizon phone representative, I purchased the Roku to replace the TV adapter from Verizon on a den TV to avoid a $10/month charge. Setup requires each TV channel to be individually entered on the Roku TV keyboard and to wait for verification that the channel is being paid for. This is too time consuming. Instead, I'm using the Roku to receive Netflix on a TV set that is not a smart TV.

...what more can I say? It generally does what it is supposed to. I WILL say that the Roku app for iPhone does not work great if there is more than one Roku in the house. Just buggy, but we get through it. We appreciate that it brings our streaming subscriptions under one roof on our TV. I DO wish this unit had a USB drive...we have photos and movies we would love to show on the TV through the Roku, and the screen mirroring function of the Roku app is garbage.

The Roku is awesome for streaming! This is the second one that we have purchased. The first one we had no problems with but for some reason this one had an occasional glitch where it would freeze. Haven’t had that problem lately, idk if our internet was too much for it or what. Otherwise it’s a great product and very easy and simple to use that my 4year old can work it. I would recommend this product and purchase again if I needed to.

I purchased the: Roku - Premiere 4K Streaming Media Player and it's great. It streams in very high HD quality and runs much smoother than my previous, 1st generation Roku. I probably should have a 4K tv, or at least an HD tv to pair with the amazing quality of the Roku 4K, but still I can tell the quality is better than when I'm watching other stuff on my tv. Anyway, a good purchase and it didn't break the bank!

I would like to have support for my logitech TV keyboard , I know there is a keyboard you can use on your phone , It will still be nice for such an expensive little item to be used . I like my keyboard . Besides that , it is pretty awesome , picture is good , it is fast , the audio clear . I bought this because my smart TV seemed to have issues with play back of the apps at times and would freeze . I think it was over heating . Not with the Roku though .

I like being able to access cable television stations using the Roku. It was easy to set up and get running. I cannot give it a full 5 stars because there is no 'off' switch, so when I turn on my television, it's in screensaver mode. According to Roku, it only uses a small amount of electricity, "the same as powering a nightlight," but I want it O-F-F, using no electricity, and the only option is to unplug it, which is ridiculous.

Works well as a basic streaming stick, but in my opinion, this product is not as elegant as the Amazon Fire TV 4K. With the ROKU device, I still need to use multiple remote controls to turn on TV and adjust sound which I do not nee to do with the Fire Stick. One other small negative is that this product also has a small dongle that needs to point at the remote meaning it needs to sit on a shelf or attach to the TV.

Picture is clear, it’s in a room that I don’t use to watch too much tv. But want to have ready when I drop cable. Still have learning to do but I like the product. I really wish it would also pick up abc, nbc, cbs, Fox & local PBS stations. The antenna is not always reliable for me. They are commercial channels there should be no issues with licenses but as always creed takes play.

It's great to have free content from the Roku channel in addition to all of the available apps. Some apps could use work, such as Prime Video which forces you to scroll only in one direction through tons of things to get to what you want. I can find things within the apps using the Roku search that I can't find by using the app search feature itself (again, Prime Video an example). Great device.

I bought this to use when I travel as I already have a Roku TV and an older Roku 3 that work great. I love all Roku products, but this one was somewhat difficult to set up in my hotel room. Perhaps, it was the hotel TV. It just seemed to take longer than necessary. When I got it hooked up, it worked great like all my other Roku devices. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars
