I spent over a month trying to get a clear picture with this hardware/ software package doing everything customer service directed, even buying new component cables and another VCR. When the only conclusion had to be a problem with the cables they sold in their package they told me to start doing all the test steps all over again! I bought Diamond VHS to DVD and it has worked perfectly from the beginning, with much better editing features. Corel Roxio 's response to my negative review was to send a coupon for 5% off my next purchase of a Roxio product. I assure you that coupon will never be used!

Bad solution for transferring VHS

This program does not work very well with newer versions of Windows. Transfer quality is very poor. On line support got me through several problems but even after getting the product to work at times the quality of the VHS Tape to either MPEG or DVD is extremely poor as opposed to playing tapes to TV.

My goal with this was to create files from Video 8/HiBand 8 tapes using a Windows 10 computer. First, I must say that it was fairly easy to use and the video quality was good. Also, you can set the time for the recording or have a lack of input signal turn off the transfer (with an option to delay for up to 20 seconds in case of a blank section).
However, the software does not provide any decent instructions for making video files (or DVDs), although there are some detailed instructions for inputting and editing music (which I did not read).
First of all, the software likes to send files to default locations and even when you change the location it can easily default back.
It does recognize if you have a 16:9 format video when recording, but if you try to view any of the recorded video it defaults to 4:3 format unless you click to select the 16:9. It already recognized the format when recording, so I find the a mysterious mode of operation.
When recording it seems to set the audio level much too high, so you need to cut the audio level (which you can do) before starting the transfer.
There are other functions which can be done, such as changing the length of the recorded video before creating a processed output file, but none of this is discussed in the extremely brief instruction manual.
But the core function of transferring an analog video recording to digital works well.

Works great, but you have to click "support" then "check for updates" and run the Windows 10 patch or it will not work on Windows 10. Once you run the patch, it's a nice little program with a few nice tweeks. Converted an old VHS of grandma to digital easily. Also nice is that you don't have to make a DVD. You can save to MPEG2, H.264, or WMV.

Purchased to transfer some old family VHS tapes to computer.
Did NOT work for me. Windows 10 1809. I'm a computer guy and know my stuff. Showed up in device manager, but got no video signal. Tested VCR directly with TV and it was fine. Tried different USB ports and rebooted a 2nd time. (even though I knew I didn't have to)
I noticed when it was plugged in, it was a little warm...maybe i just had defective one, but still...i'm just going to something else.
Not convinced? Well, i'm just bit mad for all the time I wasted, so let me add some additional issues with this.
The product box says Windows 10 compatible, but the manual that comes with it only says up to Windows 8. This is like 5-6 year old software. Yesterday's technology today!
I called into tech support. I mean, I'm willing to try and make this work...Believe me, I just want this to work. Just FYI Apparently Corel bought out Roxio...(no wonder this thing was on sale)...After 10 minutes getting my callback # and email and I describing the issue, they told me there was NO phone support for this product. Email or chat only.
again, find something else...save yourself the hassle.

Good Product but not Easy

When I set the duration over 40 minutes to transfer video from an Hi8 tape, the "finishing" has never completed (only worked for the first time when set the duration for 45 minutes). I can't reject the DVD and close the program. I have to kill the process using task manager, restart, and then reject the DVD. It works if I set for 30 minutes duration or less. Haven't tried 31-39 minutes yet. Overall, it is a good product.

Avoid! Wasted Four Hours

Thought this had good reviews. Installed the software on my Windows10 HP Omen. Plugged in the USB. Started getting popping sounds like a horse galloping that eventually would fade away. Ran the software.
Initially got some video to come through and record. The popping noise came back. Stopped the record. Tried again. Now it couldn't get the video signal but eventually got it. Stopped recording. Updated software. Restarted.
Now I'm getting no video at all. Just audio, and the popping keeps coming and going.
Tried re-installing drivers, repairing software, restarting computer, etc. Wasted four hours on this garbage.
Got VidBox, installed software, easy to follow directions, video comes right up and records, no problem.

I purchase this recently and it failed to install. The software says I have an invalid CD Key. I called, emailed, and went through tech support. Every call they state that they would have to get back to me within 24 hours. 6 phone calls to them. NONE from them. They still have yet to call me about this after TWO WEEKS of contacting them. Do NOT waste your time or money.

Did not work at all. We have an older camcorder and vcr, but that's no excuse. I was able to make a digital recording with another software package (UCEC Video Converter), but thought Roxio would be better. Wasted $40 on Roxio - look elsewhere.

I installed the software and it went perfectly fine. But when I tried using it....it didn't work. It took me over 3 hours just figure out what I was doing wrong. Instead, the device to plug it in started over heating. I wasted so much of my time with this crap. I'm returning this. Do not waste your money and time with this product.

Very POOR to NO Customer Service for this product!

I am surprised of all the good ratings on this poor product. I will start by saying I am pretty computer literate so when I received this and installed the software I did all the checks to be sure to eliminate any of my problems. I tried several times to contact Roxio and after several days and hours when I finally got thru to someone I could not talk to a tech and the lady said she would create a ticket and someone would email me back. Couple days later I heard back and went back and forth via email over the next few days (very irritating when you have a brand new product) and they instructed me to try several steps to resolve which I did with no luck. Their customer service is extremely poor if you can even get ahold of them. The product is not working correctly so maybe I have a bad one but it would be nice to speak with a tech to find out for sure. I have no choice but to return this to Best Buy but not sure I want to try another since you can get no support help from the manufacture. POOR business at best!
