“I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.” I have a household of four fur babies, a teen, and a very active six year old. As you can imagine my rugs get a lot of action! Dirty paw prints, accidental spills, and puppy mistakes are almost a daily occurrence in my home. My house is made up of mostly area rugs on hardwood floors on the first level, a carpeted stairs, and wall to wall carpet on the second floor in the bedrooms. The rugs get tons of high traffic use with the dogs constantly going in and out and the occasional puppy blunder that needs to be immediately spot cleaned. Using a full size steam cleaner on a regular basis for small jobs and on the stairs is impractical, so the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is the perfect solution for keeping my rugs clean and fresh smelling for those hard to clean areas and spot messes. The Rug Doctor has been around for 40 years and I have always found their full size professional-grade carpet cleaners to work magic on my rugs. Nevertheless, to constantly have to rent a machine to spot clean my rugs on a regular basis would just be unfeasible and tiresome. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is handy to have for those small area jobs and works fantastic on lifting the dirt. BUT, it should not be confused with a steam cleaner, because it does not actually heat the water. You must use very hot tap water for best results and only use the Rug Doctor cleaning solutions. In fact, using any other cleaner will void the warranty and could damage your machine. In my opinion, the little machine is packed with some great features for the price including an “Easy Carry” and retractable handle, carpet friendly wheels for extra maneuverability, no tangle cord wrap, flexible hose with compact storage, motorized handheld brush with on/off switch, and easy to fill and clean tanks. It also has a very powerful suction for its size and gets down to deep clean those stains. However, one of the most attractive features for me (besides that it actually works) is that it has a slim design to fit on the stairs, which is a problem area in my home that gets plenty of foot and paw traffic. I had no problem using the machine on the stairs and it was easy to lift from one place to another. Plus, its small slim design is wonderful for trouble-free storage as well. The first time I used the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner I spilled the filthy water while removing the waste water tank. Now knowing the top of the dirty water intake hole does not auto seal off during removal, I will be more careful to lift the tank straight up for emptying the grungy water. This is probably the only characteristic of the spot cleaner I would like to see redesigned, since it could be problematic without proper handling or if the tank becomes too full. Overall, Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is a great innovative machine for those regular small cleaning jobs. It is perfect for busy moms and individuals who have pets, small children, or want something easy to use for quick cleanup messes. I found it to effectively work in deep cleaning my rugs and a cinch to use. The machine is also fantastic for using to freshen up upholstery and car rugs! I’m very happy with its performance

This machine is a real work horse and actually does what it says it will do. We have dogs and this is the perfect solution for stains and orders. Light weight and easy to use. I love it.

Great product for the price. This item is very efficient and does everything it is supposed to do. Rug Doctor is a dependable brand in the carpet cleaning sector. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with pets especially.

Already have a full size rug doctor but needed a small one since I have pets, good for spot cleaning and has strong power for some really heavy duty cleaning.

We foster dogs, so this machine gets a real workout. Better than any other small cleaner we've owned - good power, very portable and easy to use.

We got this because we have a new puppy and it has not disappointed us at all works great at spot cleaning easy to set up and very mobile.

It's a robust machine and the suction is strong. I also like the power brush that goes back and forth. Everything worked fine and only used it a couple of times. The spray stopped functioning. Cleaned the opening but it only sprayed sideways and not directly. Then the water wouldn't spray anymore. Glad I got the extended warranty and since BB doesn't d repair they just refunded the purchase price. I was going to buy another but they don't sell it anymore.

I love this machine! Easy to set up, a lightweight, portable cleaner. Perfect for cleaning my car, cleaning my furniture, and removing pet stains from my carpet.

Chose this unit because of all of the success we have had in the past with the version that you rent and use yourself. It's not that good but it is doing the job pretty well considering it's size. We are finding it easy to use.

I was amazed at how great this machine was! I have a menagerie, multiple cats and two dogs. I used the Rug Doctor the dayI received it to remove both new and old stains and like magic they were gone. Sure, it didn't get some of the old stains completely, but they were darn near invisible, and this was after a professional carpet cleaner. It is very easy to use. No assembly required, you use it right out of the box. I LOVE this machine!!!

I’ve cleaned area rugs and my sectional. I was amazed at how much dirt came out. It’s so easy to clean and store.

The Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner proved effective in its cleaning my wool rug and especially in its extraction of carpet shampoo, dirt and water. In spite of its shorter hose The Spot Cleaner is light weight, and it does its job well.

This is my first carpet spot cleaner, but I have to say it did a much better job than I was expecting. I was amazed it removed spots that were from a year ago. On some old pet stains it reduced the visible stain, and I'm sure deep cleaned it. Suggestion, I was able to locate more stains than I thought I had by using a uv black light flash light in a dark room. It was scary how many stains I found, and I was happy how many were removed buy this cleaner.

We got this for cleaning up dog messes when he got sick. Perfect size and easy to clean any where in the house

Great watch for tracking steps, sleep patterns, and exercise. I like the stopwatch when working the core in 30 second increments. I only gave it four stars due the band likes to come apart.

This product is great for small areas to clean...easy to use and not too heavy.

We are a foster family for rescue dogs. For the most part the dogs are house broken. However, once in a while a dog will have an accident as we get then adjusted to our house and our schedule. We needed a spot cleaner that is easy and portable. This Rug Doctor cleaner jets the job done. This is our second spot cleaner, the first one broke and the cleaning was not as good as the Rug Doctor.

This is the second time I've purchased this item. The first time was through Amazon and it worked so well! Great suction, carpets spots left minimally damp, and every type of stain came out. However, it stopped working after 5 uses, for no apparent reason. The second time we decided to purchase it from Best Buy because of the warranty option, which would allow for replacement should anything happen like it did with our first purchase.

Excellent suction and easy to use. Bought this instead of a full size and cleans just as well.

When I first tried to use it I couldn't get the water to come out And yes I gave it plenty of time to get air out. Messed around with it finally got it to work One thing really bad about this cleaner is trying to put hose and nozzle back. The cleaning part works good. That's why I gave it four but having to play around with the hose every time is a headache just to get nozzle to set right til next cleaning
