Cleans great. I have 3 dogs and this rug doctor cleaned better than my previous bissell. Clean water container could be bigger but I overlook this because of how amazing it did on my carpets

My Family broke out our Hoover Carpet Cleaner on a fall afternoon to clean the house. The furniture has been moved and the carpets were vacumed, however the Hoover seemed to have broken down and wouldn't suck up any water so here we are ready to steam clean with no steam cleaner. We quickly ran down to Best Buy and found this Rug Doctor unit and brought her home...We did leave the Hoover at Best Buy for recycling. This Rug Doctor blows the Hoover out of the water, they are not even in the same category. What I had to go over 2-3 times with the Hoover would get picked up upon the first pass with the rug doctor. Some of the features that make this a must purchase for anyone looking for a steam cleaner are: 1)Only have to pass over Carpet once 2) The handle has multiple angles to make maneuvering a breeze 3) Form factor is very compact Some things that could be better but can be lived with. 1) The accessory management could be better 2) The Reservoirs could be bigger 3) The width could be longer Overall I'm extremely pleased with this unit and would give it my highest recommendation for a carpet shampooing solution.

I was very impressed with this machine. So glad I chose to purchase this shampooer rather than spend the money on a one time professional cleaning. I raise dogs and my carpet that has puppy accidents came out clean and odor free! I have used upright shampooers in the past and they just did not have enough power. My husband calls this rug doctor "The Beast!". When there is an accident we bring out "The Beast!" Very happy with this puchase!

This is my 4th carpet cleaner in the last 8 months. I got 2 puppies last November and they have been the bane of my existence. They have taught my well behaved 2 older dogs how to lift their legs and even though they are all "fixed" they still will do it if they smell urine from one of the other dogs. GRRRRR! The salesman at Best Buy suggested this one because his girlfriend and another vendor rep bought it and loved it. Since the other 3 hoover cleaners broke (literally the brush fell out, stopped working, leaked, etc) all doing the things that I was warned about in the reviews that I read about them before buying, I thought I'd just splurge and buy the rug doctor. This machine is bigger and heavier so you feel like its going to do a great job. All the parts are plastic which gave me a feeling of hesitation when I pulled it out of the box. Even so, the machine is heavier and the size of a very large upright vacuum. It is not difficult to work and "Seemed" like it was really doing a good job with lots of sucking action on the bottom. The carpet dries very fast, so I was happy about it. Here lies the problem and why I didn't give it a higher rating. When I find a spot, I place hot water in the tank and add the solution. I then run the machine over the spot (picking up any fresh urine that might be still there, then I run the scrubber and soap over the spot and still assuming that the machine is sucking up all the fluid. I probably use this machine once a week (the dogs have gotten better) and this morning I caught my oldest dog mid stream and pulled out my machine. I sucked up the fresh stuff, and proceeded to spray, such, scrub...etc. While I noticed the dirty water in the tank, I got down on my hand and knees to do the smell test and was very upset to realize that it still smelled! I went over it again, and smelled and it still smelled! (the dog had only started and I caught him and through him outside so it wasn't that wet in the first place) After that I went around to several of the places that I had cleaned in the last few weeks and they all smelled too! Now I'm wondering if the Rug doctor pet cleaning solution is just not strong enough or if my machine just scrubs the top of the carpet (it always looks so nice when i'm done) but is not picking up anything that has soaked in. I stated above that this might have potential. I'm going to try a different solution in my tank and see if that picks up better. I will add that this cleans up easy and I really like that and it fits in my closet, so even though its big, its still able to fit in a regular closet.

I was shocked.I swear I thought my carpet was done with my kids and animals, HOWEVER It was worth a shot and trust me Im OBSESSED WITH steamers and carpet cleaners and vacuums. Its amazing with the suction so you dont have wet carpet before the kids come home from school or guests, its easy to use as far as dumping the dirty water and adding clean water with the solution. It is annoying if you have carpet that still sheads theres no tool to clean were the bristles are and hard to reach in the plastic access slots. Overall good product.

Overall I was happy with the performance of my rug doctor. Having worked for a professional carpet company before I felt that the extraction suction could be better but that’s me comparing in compact machine to one mounted in a truck. Not quit apples to apples. Bottom line it the is a good machine for the money and will make you medium to lightly solid carpets look as good as new.

Stop researching and just get this. Price is reasonable for what it needs to do and easy to use. A must if you have pets. Takes up a large footprint for storage but still worth it. Wish there was a larger reservoir. Gets the job done still but will take longer if you have a large surface area to treat.

Would have given 5 stars but the clean water reservoir leaks once carrying from the sink. This is the best carpet cleaner we've had and really easy to use. The carpets looked great after the first use. We have a large household and recently added 3 grand dogs that visited over the holidays.

I absolutely love this machine. I've owned to other major brands before this one and boy was that a mistake. The Rug Doctor cleans with much more ease, cleans more deeply and has a very minimal drying time. I will never use another brand again. I love, love, love my Rug Doctor!

Bought this for my retail game store. Hold events and get the inevitable spills & stains and aisle build up from day to day business. Was going to buy a much more expensive commercial cleaner but figured I would give this one a shot and use it at home if it didn't work out. It has exceeded expectations. Once through the store got 95% of the dirt/stains. Second time spot treatment and the carpet looks like the day it was installed. Huge thumbs up

I was skeptical at first but after using it I saw such a difference in our carpet I had to write a review on it. Everyone should have one of these. If you have a pet your are training it cleans so well that they won’t go back to that area after it’s cleaned. Actually I think it contributed to helping our dog becoming housebroke. Anyways it is a great machine and if you are looking in to one it’s worth it.

We have had this for a few years now and let me tell you this is the best cleaner we have had so far. It has a brush in the front that takes out almost all of the stains that we had in our carpet. The cleaning liquid that it comes with is the one that is recommended and once we used it on the old stains that we had it was really shocking that it was able to take them off. I have also used the attachment that it comes with to wash the seats of the car and it sucked up almost all of the water. I was really surprised of just how much dirt was in our seats. The only draw back is that the brush and the water are ran by only one button so if you want to brush a stain you have to make sure that there is no water in the tank or else you will have a huge puddle. Other than that this is really one of the best machines that we have had. This is worth the money,

I love this carpet shampooer. I did have an issue with the return tank being cracked which I noticed the first time I used it. I called customer service and they shipped me a new one. Hopefully, this isn't a recurring issue. It does a great job cleaning the carpets. It's a big machine but easy to maneuver.

This machine works well with a couple caveats. The actual cleaning and suction is great, the drying time is pretty quick since most of the solution gets pulled out with the high suction power. No complaints about it's cleaning abilities. Construction is another story. The design of the waste tank prevent you from easily cleaning the unit out, having to resort to spatulas, putty knives, or pipe cleaners to get the hair and debris out is a critical flaw.

I purchased this because of the Rug Doctor name and the reviews that it received. Though I have to admit that the performance I received from the machine doesn't match videos that I've seen of the machine in action. You will find videos of very dirty carpets and see the Rug Doctor leaving a clean path bringing what would normally be a candidate for the trash back to serviceable condition. While my carpets at home are nowhere near this condition I do have an area rug that may come close that description. I had two places where I wanted to test. One was a stain left by some juice (that I really have to look for to notice, but it bothers the heck out of the wife to point she wants to have hardwood installed in the room). The second was the area rug that guards the exit to the patio. This was actually a leftover from the previous owners of the house and we've not done anything with it over the summer and who knows if the previous owners ever cleaned it. Even with pre-treatment left for about 20 minutes the stain remains. It is a bit lighter and the area around it is cleaner. It did not get rid of the stain even after multiple passes. With the area rug I could tell a different between the cleaned and not cleaned areas. But I do not believe that the rug has returned to it former glory as it seems to still be dingy. Just not as dingy as before having half of it cleaned. I also found the carpet cleaner to be very light while being used (not so much when trying to lug it from the front porch after delivery to the inside of the house). Even when it is filed with water it just doesn't seem to have any weight to it. Anyone that has rented a cleaner in the past will know how much heft it has when your using it. This doesn't feel much different than using a vacuum. At this point I don't know exactly how I feel about this. Filling and emptying tanks is very easy. And that's a good thing since you will be filling that tank a lot. The water does not go very far. I've yet to do an entire room or even an entire hallway. But just for my test I used two full loads of clean water. Considering your supposed to rinse after cleaning as well, you will have lots of trips. And if you use the extra sprayer in the back of the unit you will make even more trips on top of that. Speaking of the dual spray on the unit. The rear extra sprayer can be turned off. The unit also comes with hand tools for furniture and stairs. I won't be using this since i have spot cleaner as well. The handheld tools that come with it has no power head. It will simply spray solution and vacuum it up. While the spot cleaner that I have has a powered scrubber on it. So there's no reason for me to downgrade with the cleaning and the accessories will be heading off to the attic never to be seen, heard, or spoken about again. With that said. The accessories, while having their own accessory rack to store them are not meant to always be on the cleaner. There's a place to hang the rack while cleaning to keep them nearby when you need them. But keeping them on full time would only result in frustration as they would get in the way of anything you actually want to get done with the cleaner. The amount of water that cleaner picks up left a bit to desired. As I mentioned before I went through two full loads of water. I only had to empty the unit once. Since the tank holds one gallon and I used two tanks full. That means that a gallon of water stayed in a somewhat small area of the carpet. But, this could be a learning curve on my part. I will add that the areas of the carpet that I did use the cleaner on stayed wet through most of the next day as well (this was during a Midwest winter). At this point I leaning on the side of keeping it. I will need to try it out on a different area that has a different carpet style first. I will say that it seems to perform better than past carpet cleaners I've owned in the past (aka: Hoover and Bissell) that were in the same price range. And the water that it did get up was very dirty. But then again I don't know how hard it would be for almost anything to make a dirty carpet wet, vacuum up the water that it did put down, and not come up with dirty water.

We purchased this rug cleaner mainly to clean the carpet in our basement. We have 2 dogs that sometimes have accidents and this machine cleans so well that no one would ever know they were once stained. Of course we will use it on all of our carpets as well. Definitely worth the money.
