Works well on carpet and larger rugs. Smaller rugs (3x5) are a little harder to clean.

I love the job that this does on my carpet. However, I was disappointed that it didn’t come with upholstery attachments.

I got my Rug Dr flex this afternoon and I used it on my rug where my little dogs have “accidents”. I have to say that for the “King” of carpet cleaners, I was disappointed. I wasn’t expecting it to pull up all of the solution, but the old Bissell I had did a better job. Oh and is the brush supposed to rotate on it’s own, like a vacuum, or just when you pull it to and fro? I’ll give it another go on my sons bedroom carpet and soak it this time to see how much it brings up, cos the muck need to be in the machine, not the carpet, right. We’ll see how it goes.

Good to clean rugs. Easy to assemble. Be careful with the storage tub though as it can easily get damaged and start leaking.

First, I really like this carpet cleaner. The Rug Doctor FlexClean powerful and cleans up carpet real well. I had no idea the carpet I cleaned was so dirty! The dirty tank is easy to remove and empty, too. The only reason is doesn't get five stars is because although it claims to be ergonomic, it does get heavy, is hard to push and pull, and the grip can start to cause an achy hand when cleaning larger areas in one go. I ran the FlexClean over about 800-900 square feet of carpet, and it took three tanks of water and solution, which I'd say isn't bad at all. The rotating brush cleans deep, and the suction is powerful. There's is something oddly satisfying about seeing all the dirty water in the dirty tank—you know it's doing a good job cleaning wherever you have it go. There were a few spots that the FlexClean managed to get that other carpet-cleaning methods failed to do, so that's a plus. Clean-up is quick and easy. One thing I'd like to note is that the brush is simple to remove. All it takes is a coin or flat head screwdriver to remove a plate on one side of the bottom of the cleaner, and the brush pops out. The primary downside to this carpet cleaner is that it's just heavy. It quickly gets difficult to push and pull, largely in part due to the amount of water in the water tanks. The FlexClean can hold a lot of water, but at the same time it's going to take some elbow grease maneuvering it. Thankfully the handle can pivot which does help when moving on to a new stretch of surface. It's quite possible that this was due to pet hair getting trapped in the small rollers on the bottom of the nozzle and cleaner itself. These are relatively easy to pop out and clean when necessary. Though it works on hard surfaces (it comes with a squeegee nozzle in these cases), I imagine it's best left for extremely dirty areas there, as you'd probably be better off using something that moves faster and is designed to quickly clean up. Despite the fact that the FlexClean can sometimes be difficult to move, I don't expect a floor cleaner to be so lightweight that it's a breeze to maneuver. The fact remains that it is heavy when it has water, but it's easy to look past this when it really gets down into carpets and removes all the dirt that you didn't even know was there. For that, I'd say it's totally worth considering this one for the home.

My first impression of the Rug Doctor Flexclean was how well built and sturdy it is. My second impression is that it felt a bit heavy. I had no problem moving it around, but my wife struggled with it a bit. At first, steering it was a bit tricky. I found myself trying to fight with it to get it to go in the direction I wanted it to, but then I decided to apply less pressure and just guided it to where I wanted it and that seemed to work really well. Setting it up was really easy. The tanks come on and off without much trouble and the directions for use are very clear. Within a few minutes I was ready to clean with it. My house has multiple surfaces to clean: hardwood, tile and carpet. We have a dog, cat and a toddler that are rough on all surfaces. Although we have someone who comes in and cleans for us, by the day after the floors can be pretty messy again. I found that this worked really well on picking up just about everything from cat hairballs to sticky juice and mud from the dog’s paws. A couple of times I had to pass over a dirty spot a few times, but it did a good job handling it. The area I was most impressed with it was our foyer. We have a dark tile with a raised pattern on it where dirt often gets in and is difficult to remove. This thing went after it with no trouble and the tile was as clean as when we first had it put in. Where I wasn’t quite as impressed was on our living room carpet. We have an off-white berber carpet that the dog loves to lay on. There were a couple of fresh dirty spots that this machine had some difficulty with. I had to scrub it by hand a little to get it to come out. Overall I liked how the Flexclean performed. It definitely did a deeper cleaning than a regular mop. Just a day after the house was cleaned, the water in the return tank was pretty brown and cloudy. The one item it did not come with is the one I want the most: the optional upholstery cleaning tool. The good news is that it doesn’t cost much compared to the price of the unit. I ordered one and will update my review when it comes in. Overall I would recommend this. It doesn’t cost a lot compared to many cleaners out there and does a fairly good job on normal everyday household dirt and messes. This will definitely be part of our regular leaning routine going forward.

My wife asked for this unit based on the commercial. However, the unit is very heavy, unwieldy and does not clean the front 4 inches of its floor surface area, so it cannot clean corners. My wife, although a reasonably strong person, could not push this unit, with no front wheels, sufficiently to clean a small, all-tile house in one day; she just got too tired of pushing and lifting the heavy unit to change directions. We returned it.
