    Versatile Machine with Some Compromises

The Rug Doctor Flex Clean is a rug and hard floor deep cleaner. It can cover a wide variety of surfaces, almost everything found in a typical home and has the typical vacuum cleaner form factor, albeit in a bigger package. For average messes, it can be a great alternative to renting an industrial or professional tool - if you address them relatively quickly or work it into a regular schedule, perhaps every few months. So, more about the physical machine. It is carpet friendly with big wheels, even with my high pile rug that most vacuums seem to struggle to deal with. However, it is not a replacement for a vacuum cleaner and you should vacuum before using the flex clean. It is heavy and bulky, and that's before the water and cleaning solution. The wheels help with keeping it maneuverable, but it won't win wall hugging or cleaning under furniture contests. With just the parts in the box, you will need to do work yourself moving furniture to get at harder to reach places or skipping it altogether if cleaning someplace where things are less movable, like a kitchen. Cleaning performance is decent, certainly better than most things in it's price range but the pro devices are still a cut above. Like I mentioned earlier in the review, it's a great tool to use to maintain the home on a semi regular schedule, and in that regard, will save cost over pro rentals. However, if you're dealing with an place that has not been cleaned in years, you're better off with the more industrial tool. Ultimately, it comes down to selecting the right tool for the job. I think this can be a good addition to one's closet, so long as you're aware of it's limitations and plan on scheduling usage to get the best cleaning effect.

There are many good things about Rug Doctor - FlexClean Upright Deep Cleaner like design, functionality, ease of emptying the waste water tank, filling the solution tank, and ease of mobility. I have mostly carpet and regular vaccum cleaner does the job of monthly cleaning. With kids, carpet gets really dirty with juice stain, oil stain etc. I bought FlexClean Upright Deep Cleaner and so happy with the results. It was a breeze to clean out. There were lot of spots in the carpet and all were disappeared after using this one. I used to rent rug doctor from local stores to clean the carpet. With Flexclean Upright Deep cleaner, there is no need to rent the heavy ones and it does clean the carpet really well and remain the dirts very effectively. I highly recommend this machine if you want good clean sanitized floors.

While the cleaner looks imposing, the instructions are clear and the device itself is easy to use. The results, on one rug in a high traffic area and another with normal traffic, were excellent. Both rugs were left a bit more damp than I expected but not enough to reduce the rating given. The cleaner is heavy, but the weight is barely noticeable while in use. Yes, this is a great product for the price, and yes, I would definitely recommend it.

Growing up in a house full of carpets, I remember my parents would rent one of these Rug Doctor Steam cleaners once a year or so and we would be amazed to see how much dirt and gunk came out of our shag carpets. Rug Doctor sells the same unit you could rent at your local Safeway or Hardware store now, but this unit seems to be a little more streamlined version that makes it easier to store and you would expect, move around. Sadly I found this unit to be almost as bulky and hard to maneuver as the full tank version, minus the added capacity of the larger clean water reservoir. Overall it does a solid job of cleaning, but I found I had to change the water and cleaning solution more frequently. I was able to do my living room and dining room before having to change the water and we pulled the carpet up from the rest of the house. For a house mostly filled with hardwood or vinyl I'm not sure I would bother, a simple mop or wet brush type broom would work just fine. The water didn't look as dirty as I remember when using the full upright Rug Doctor either, but its also because I vacuum more frequently with better vacuums. Overall, I would probably stick to renting a larger Rug Doctor unit for the 3 rooms in my house that still have carpet. While it is smaller than the full rental unit, this unit still takes up a lot of room and doesn't seem to do as good of a job cleaning. It also doesn't hold as much water but is just as hard to push and clean with. If you have a lot of carpet, you may consider just spending more and getting the full Rug Doctor.

A large machine, but it's effective

One of my summer jobs as a teenager was at a local grocery store where I would sometimes have to lug the huge Rug Doctor rentals to and from customer's cars. I'm glad to see a smaller, more consumer-friendly model is now available and found it to still be an effective cleaning solution. The assembly out of the box was very simply and only required attaching the handle and securing it with a screw. Removing all the packing laminates took some time, but the machine was almost ready to go out-of-the-box. To start cleaning, I removed the "clean water" tank from the top of the machine, filled it with hot water and added 3 ounces of solution from the included 9 ounce trial bottle (so you'll get about 3 cleaning sessions from the included bottle of solution). My machine came with the carpet nozzle pre-installed which has been my main use of the machine, but a nozzle for hardwood floors is also included. The machine is somewhat large and bulky, but the handle tilts back and side-to-side which makes pushing the machine a little more comfortable. The machine definitely has some weight to it (especially with a gallon of water in the tank) and your arm can quickly become fatigued if cleaning a large area. At times, I was kind of missing the two hand operation of the larger Rug Doctor machines. However, the FlexClean does an effective job cleaning the carpet and I'm often surprised by the amount of dirt collected in the "dirty water" tank. I found it to be just as effective as my friend's larger carpet cleaner. It's definitely not a lightweight machine, but it's a lot lighter than renting a full-sized Rug Doctor machine.

We have a dog and 2 cats so it seems the floor always needs cleaning. The Rug Doctor machine does a great job of cleaning up after them. You still have to pick up the, ummm, chunks, by hand but scrubbing the residue up is much easier with this machine. It leaves the floor (carpet or tile) a little wet but no more so than if you had scrubbed by hand. Overall if you have pets or kids this would be a good investment!

I really enjoy having this machine around the house I wish I had this months ago in my old house! I currently live in an apartment with a mostly carpet and tile in the kitchen and bathroom. The reason I wanted this unit and not the larger one was since I’m in a one bedroom I don’t want something that takes up a lot of space and something that is hard to maneuver around my place but can also get the job done. Well, this unit definitely gets the job done. I haven’t been here long and I’m actually surprised and slightly appalled at how dirty the carpet was despite it looking spotless and constantly vacuumed every 2 days! I definitely see myself using this unit at least once a month. I love that it works on multiple surfaces and worked well on my tile floors. Only downside was it’s nuch heavier and not as lightweight and Maneuverable maneuverable as advertised which is unfortunate but, still acceptable. Overall you won’t be disappointed.

I like to deep clean my carpets quarterly because I have 3 cats and their hair can get in the carpet. It's easy to use, just mix in the solution with water and go to work. The ability to do my hardwood in my apartment is great. The only dissatisfied part is the upholstery attachment is sold separately

I just moved into a house with carpets so I don't have other experiences with carpet cleaners but this one does the job great. It comes with a 9 Fl oz bottle of all purpose cleaner which you can use to clean carpets but also hard surfaces like wood and tile. It comes with two different attachments for carpet and hard surfaces. You just need hot tap water and the liquid and cleans the carpets like a charm the first time I used it. This one is as small as those vacuum cleaners which I like since the carpet cleaners I have seen that you can rent from supermarkets ( at least the ones near me offer it) are quite huge I'm comparison.
