Customers are saying

Customers admire the SmartShade with BatteryPack for its ease of use, straightforward installation, and long battery life. The device is also appreciated for its quiet operation and compatibility with various beaded chains. However, some customers have expressed concerns about connectivity issues and the outdated USB port. Additionally, a few customers feel the price could be more competitive and that the beaded-chain requirement may be limiting.

Installation was very rough around the edges. They do try to make it easy by having a QR code to download the appropriate app for Android or iOS and the app offers text and illustrations to guide you thru the setup, step-by-step. The problem for me was that the beads that come with my window shades have caps or covers on them at certain points and the way they feed into this device it wasn't possible to raise of lower them without them feeding into this "device" so when they did you'll find the inside of this is basically a plastic turn-wheel and needless to say in plastic vs. metal - plastic always loses. In fact, in the short time it took me to get this installed one of the plastic rivets on the gear-style wheel already has almost completely ripped off. The second issue came when I mounted this to the wall. With the battery pack on it, it's incredibly heavy. Heavy enough to where in testing it out, it ripped the whole device and screws square out the wall and before I knew it it was just swinging and smacking agains the wall. I think it's a mis-step to not include the smart hub if it offers the best experience as well. Awkwardly, it's the first thing mentioned in the app/instructions so I started tearing thru the packaging thinking I missed something and it wasn't til I started reading around the packaging that I found the smart hub not included part. The app is also very rough around the edges as when you leave the app and come back in, it shows your email and it's "stuck" on this screen. It's not clear how you advance past it and I don't know what I tapped but eventually I got it to the screen where it showed my Ryse but I'm not 100% sure what I did - it could definitely be more intuitive. By default it looks like a login screen with no password box and it's not clear where to go or how to dismiss that screen to get to the main screen where you can see your Ryse. TLDR: very rough around the edges. I would improve the packaging, app, build quality of the product and make it USB-C - why are we still shipping things with micro/mini-USB to USB-A. And no power adapter in the box either. As USB-A becomes more obsolete, you're going to reach a point where you can choose to ship things with USB-A but it shouldn't be an expectation for people to still have these lying around the house somewhere.

I wish I had good things to say about the product - but for what this promises to be, it falls way short. If all you need is an automated shade puller - great you have this to use by pressing the buttons on the device. The only thing you need to make sure is that you set the correct upper and lower limit - otherwise this machine applies enough force to break your shade's chain. It happened to me - and I am not going to blame it since it was after all my mistake, I kept my thumb on the up button even when it had rolled all the way back up. Although, it would have been great if it had a fail safe if it encounters sufficient resistance. That aside though, the promise of a "smart" shade was dashed. The Bluetooth connectivity is finicky - trying to open or close the shade through the app cannot be relied upon. Sometimes it will not even perform any action, and sometimes it will stop the action in the middle, and not open/close to the %age we want it to. It even happens sometimes with the physical button controls on the device itself. If you want to long hold so it opens fully or closes fully, it doesn't always listen to you and will stop in the middle. As for being "smart", to be truly connected to your personal assistants you need to buy a separate smartbridge from RYSE, which I did not have and so could not use any of those features. The installation itself was simple enough, although getting the exact height where the controller is attached to the wall, can also be a bit hit and miss. I was left with a bit of slack on my chain, again can't blame it, perhaps I was not precise enough in my measuring. But there are no tools that come with this to make it any easier. There are also 0 instructions in the box. You have to know to download the app and view the instructions in that. As for the battery , it came with a 35% charge and was depleted within a week of installation. So, overall my frustration is apparent and if it cannot be relied upon to complete the task every time, then it just ends up taking more time than its supposed to save. Plus the extra smartbridge needed for personal assistant integration is a huge bummer

This is such amazing product. So easy to install and a fraction of the price of other smart shade on the market. I'll be installing more roller shades in my house just so that I can use RYSE on all of them.

Frequently returned item because it doesn't work!!

It's listed as frequently returned for several reasons. Very, very difficult to set up. Very stressful to attach and set up. What were they thinking? I have had several of these sent to me because each one wouldn't power on. When they did, they wouldn't set up properly. Never found bluetooth, etc. Also, I dare you to not be stressed out TRYING to attach it to your wall. I had four friends come over to try and attach and set it up -- we were all stressed out and very angry at this product for ever being invented!
