If you’re thinking about whether or not this is the web cam and microphone is for all of you adventurous vloggers or podcasters, I’ll save you some time: it isn’t, but it’s close. So why the 4 stars? Well, I’m writing this review to explain. Here we have the Samson Go Mic with HD Webcam. The full name is something long like ‘Mic Video USB Microphone with HD Webcam’. It’s pretty long, but I guess it hits all of the SEO (Search Engine Optimizations) terms and it is a straight-forward name. It’s certainly a break-away from your tradition web cameras from the major web camera player. If you don’t know which company I’m talking about, it starts with an “L” and ends in a “Tech” and they have a wide selection of low-end and high-end cameras. I would say that this Webcam definitely punches above its weight from a non-video company would overall say this sits in the mid-range of available products. What immediately stands out is this web camera’s design. It has a premium build to it that is immediately noticeable: you can tell that the designers put a lot of thought into the design as well as function and I can say that this will give off the impress that you know what you’re doing. It doesn’t look like some toy — no, this exudes the presence of a professional. The metal mesh around the microphone extends from front (silver) to back (black). The unit itself comes out of the box folded up neatly into a rectangle for portability, but upon pressing the clip, you can swing the main body out and set it up for use to be clipped against a monitor/screen or — and this is the really neat thing — use the clip part as a stand. It has enough weight to not tip over or shift around and somehow it looks good both in both of those setups. There’s also a spot for you to even place a tripod-mount or microphone arm if you were so-inclined to do so, but then you’re kind of defeating the point of it being portable. It has a modern design and accepts USB-C as an input for connection, while also offering a 3.5mm jack for headphones, useful for those with shorter cords. The side has a strong physical slider to toggle between the two recording modes (all around or mostly front). There’s no software needed to be installed. Upon plugging in, drivers will auto setup and 15 seconds later, you are ready to go. It’s a very nice device that is meant to help you start doing right from the get-go. Unfortunately, without any software to download, it also means there probably isn’t going to be any firmware to improve some of its shortcomings. This is first-and-foremost a microphone with a webcam slapped on. The quality can be very good, but you have to be in the correct environment for it. For those that are already familiar with podcasting or recording music, ambient noise can really hamper your recordings. Both in the omni-directional and cardioid mode (which emphasizes recording the front, with some sensitivity for slightly picking up the sides and back), the microphone (when mounted to my laptop’s monitor) would pick up my mouse-clicks and furious keyboard typing. Mechanical keyboards, even brown switches, are out of the question for use with this device. Setting on the clip-stand slightly to the side of my laptop and on cardioid mode (toggled switch up) helped cut down on picking up the noise from the clicking and the fans of my laptop a lot. That being said, if serious about recording, you’d already have figured out ways to cut down on the background noise (record in a closet full of clothes perhaps?) and achieve excellent recording results. Audacity recognizes the device with no problem. I will note that Windows for some reason upon plugging in this device will sometimes switch the audio to be (Headphones Go Mic Video) despite having not plugged-in headphones to the device’s jack, forcing me to manually click and switch back to my device’s default speakers. A minor quibble, but annoying if you do this often. Finally, the video quality is nothing home to write home about. Any sort of lighting adjustments will need to be done in the environment or third-party software. In low-light situations the quality is noticeably worsened, which is what even some high-quality web cameras suffer from. It will likely be better than any laptop’s built-in camera would be, but that’s not saying too much. The video recording capability fulfills the role of ‘can do’ admirably, but it is by no means the first to be picked in a full line-up. Pros: 1. Premium build — doesn’t feel flimsy, is attractive in design, and has a good weight to it. 2. Plug and play, no software needed to be installed aside from the drivers your machine will auto-install upon plug-in. 3. Audio recording capability quite good. 4. USB-C connection, which is the future of modern devices. However, if your laptop does not have a USB-C port if you don’t have a USB-C to USB-A cable already (like what you would get from a phone), this is an additional expense. Cons: 1. No drivers means no possible improvement, noise cancellation is next to non-existent in both omni-directional and focused mode. 2. Video quality is fine, but low-lighting can’t be helped. Summary: if you want something that can do everything, this is close. You’ll get great audio (if you accept the limitations of the hardware, re: background noise), but video is just okay.

This is the perfect piece of tech for the content creator on the go! It folds up nicely and fits in your pocket if needed.

Awesome I love this product would definitely buy again

This thing is a cool idea for a webcam with a cardioid/omnidirectional microphone built in. To start, the unit folds up into a nice compact package, smaller than a traditional deck of playing cards. Unfolding it is easy, and you can be up and running in no time. I appreciate that it has some heft to it too- it doesn’t feel cheap or that it’s going to break easily. It feels made for portability. The Webcam/Microphone combo has several options for mounting including the ability to clamp it to your laptop monitor (and I would assume some external monitors as well, though mine were too thick for the clamp), the back part of the clamp can be laid flat and used as a stand for the unit, and the base is threaded for tripod mounting. I used this on my M1 MacBook Pro, and the instruction booklet guides you through navigating to the system MIDI settings where you can configure the microphone. Selecting the camera can be done from the menu bar of whichever program you’re using. A note in the instructions about how to select the camera from the menu bar of whichever program you are using would be nice too, but was missing. The camera quality compared to the built in MacBook webcam is impressive, though captures a cooler image temperature compared to the built-in camera. Because the Go Mic Video is 1080p vs 720 on my MacBook webcam, the detail in the image quality is without question superior. In my sample pictures you can see the grain on the desk a bit clearer and the string on the guitar in the background with more detail. The microphone is pretty good in my limited time using this unit. In a video conference, or virtual meeting, you are going to sound best in class, full-bodied and clear. I have a small personal home recording studio, and I wouldn’t knock using this thing to record something in Logic quick in a pinch to get an idea down, but not push it much more than that. There are quite a few things I don’t like about the Go Mic Video though. First, I wish that the clamp had more depth so that it would clamp my external monitors, though there are a variety of options for setup. The clamp also has some rubber pads that I hope will protect it from scratching my laptop, but the pads don’t fully go edge to edge and so there’s a slight bit of exposed metal to be cautious of. Also, the clamp is pretty robust, so I hope it’s not applying too much pressure to the screen (for the sake of my AppleCare+). Second, the power cable (a usb-c cable) attaches to the right side of the unit while the usb-c ports on my MacBook Pro (and coincidentally my work Windows laptop) are both on the left side, which can make it a stretch for the included cable. Lastly, I’m not sure who this is really for. I know Samson had a Go Mic previously that included just a microphone, without the webcam/camera. But with webcam quality finally improving, and Continuity Camera and the ability to use your iPhone camera as your Mac’s webcam, I don’t see the camera as a need. Even a year or two ago when everyone was working from home during the pandemic, this thing would have been a great idea, but given the short USB cable and small depth of the clamp preventing it from being monitor mountable (in my experience at least), I just don’t think this thing would have hit the mark. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this to a friend, but I might recommend this to an enthusiast, musician, artist, or content creator looking for above average sound and decent camera in a compact package.

Perfect for older laptop users or those with laptops with out a webcam or low quality built in one. One of my main travel laptops i tend to use to game and multi purpose (asus g15 2021) does not come with a webcam. This serves more than its fair share for that role to not only make up for that it also has a REALLY good mic on it. In the past i had a samson meteor desk mic and i feel like this is the exact same capsule that was in that mic. What that means is its very high quality studio style mic but being a condensor it does pick up a lot of room noise. A good way to combat that is using something like krisp or nvidia broadcast, asus ai noise removal etc theres many on the market since covid. If you dont want to use those make sure and go into your system settings and turn the gain down because out of the box its fairly hot. As long as you have noise reduction or turned down gain your in business. Far as the clip on deal i dont truly feel comfortable claming my laptop screen with it for fear of damage but luckily it also has feet on the base to set it up on your desk or elsewhere which works great. (tip mine came in stereo mic mode not cardioid "the heart shape" switch on the side make sure only use that heart shape if you are recording just yourself and nothing else in the room or youll get echo. The mic has two polar patterns you can one, basically one that records only the audio in front of it or the second setting records the sounds behind it as well in the case you are having others in the room you want to also record. The camera itself can do 1080p resolution at 30fps. In good lighting this does extremely well at coloration and auto white balance. In low light it does suffer a fair bit but that is to be expected with something like this. It does not have any sort of auto focus but is infinte focus out of the box so you shouldnt have any issues. I think the saving grace of a piece like this is the fact that you can have both a mic and a 1080p camera thats ACTUALLY high quality in one USB plug (TYPE C). Super nice to have on the go when you need higher quality video and much better audio than comes in any laptop for sure. Works on both my windows and mac machines perfectly. If this was 4k resolution it would be a 5 star rating easily, but 1080 does the job and does it better than almost every built in camera and mic on any laptop.

Great design - Folds down to a very compact, solid package. Unfolds easily. Camera & mic are on a ball joint which makes positioning very easy. Very strong clamp that opens far enough for laptop screens and thinner desktop monitors. Standard 1/4”-20 on the bottom of the base. Samson makes microphones and this is their first camera so I was a bit worried. Video quality is ok compared to cameras like Logitech C920 and Razer Kiyo Pro. Noisier especially in lower light. Good color accuracy. Microphone is also ok. Definitely better than the mic on the C920 and even the Kiyo Pro. Given the distance from the mic (on a desktop monitor) to me (pacing at a standing desk), I’m not surprised how distant I sound but people can easily understand me. It does not have a mute button. A touch sensitive mute button on the base would be great.

The Samson Go Mic Video Portable USB Microphone with HD Webcam lives up to its name. It is portable and easily moved from one device to another. It simply clips on a flat panel monitor or similar surface and plugs into a USB-C port on your laptop or desktop computer with the included USB-C cable. The camera / microphone combo folds neatly into the built-in clip creating a compact and easily portable package that is about 2 inches by 3 inches. The HD webcam produces HD resolution video that is perfect for virtual work meetings and other video calls. I have not tried it for creating social media videos, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work well for that too. The device also has a selector switch for shaping the audio. If you are alone, in front of the camera / mic you can optimize the mic for capturing audio from directly in front. If you are in a conference room or with a few friends in the room, you can select omnidirectional and optimize the mic for capturing audio in all directions. But to be honest, my co-workers couldn’t tell a lot of difference when I changed the audio selection. All in all, the Samson Go Mic Video Portable USB Microphone with HD Webcam is a handy portable device that can easily be moved from computer to computer. I plugged it into my Windows 10 work laptop and Windows “found” the correct drivers right away. In a matter of seconds, it was up and running.

The Samson Go Mic does something a little different, including an HD camera in a convenient form factor, and a far superior microphone to most other portable cameras you could buy. In the package you’ll find the Samson Go Mic, a USB C cable, and some documentation. The microphone is attached to a mount, and is plug & play on both PC & Mac. There weren’t any drivers to download, and every app I used immediately detected this Samson Go Microphone and the HD Camera for use. The microphone includes a 3.5mm headphone jack and the USB C connection on one side and a toggle for cardioid or omnidirectional mic setting. The mount is probably one of the best designs for a mic/webcam I’ve ever seen. It’s designed to sit on a tabletop with its integrated stand, clipped on to your laptop monitor, or attached to your preferred camera mount. The microphone & camera can be positioned easily without the need to tighten any thumbscrews, allowing for easy placement in almost any setting. The microphone is clearly where the Samson Go Mic shines, when set to cardioid the audio captured sounds like my other Samson that’s three times the size. There is a small LED indicator light which also flashes red when its clipping, and the headphone jack allows you to monitor your recording in real time. My colleagues also complimented how clear my audio was during video conferences, compared to my previous webcams built in mic. The omnidirectional mic setting does a great job of capturing audio from front and back of the mic. This makes recording interviews, podcasts, or small group calls on the fly, easy. I found that most video captured was washed out during my use, as the camera sensor appeared to prefer brighter environments. My office space has more intimate lighting, and when using a key light it actually made this whited out picture worse. The only time the HD camera looked decent for me, was while outside or when recording near natural light. The video was really sharp, compared to most other cameras, capturing some of the finer detail in the environment and I didn’t notice any lag or stutter when using it. Overall, I’d still recommend the Go Mic for the microphone alone. The design makes this easy to store and pack in your bag, the audio quality is top notch for its size, the HD camera works great with every video conference app I used, and didn't require any additional drivers. This is a notable upgrade from any built in webcam on most laptops and one that I can easily recommend for the traveling professional.

The Samson Go Mic Video is a unique product for a few reasons. First, the moment you remove it from the packaging, you notice the build quality. The base/monitor clip and microphone mesh is metal, and the microphone body is a decent plastic. I like that the base is substantially weighted and balanced such that you can let it stand on its own. The clip clamps robustly. In my opinion this is a benefit that could also be a curse, depending on your laptop's screen configuration. Mine has a plastic bezel, so I'm able to NOT clamp onto the glass of the screen. Others may not have that option. Finally, you can also mount it to any tripod with a standard screw attachment. Performance-wise, the video quality was much higher than that of my built-in camera. It's a 1080p HD webcam. I was quite pleased. The speaker is touted as "studio-quality sound" and I found it, too, much better than my computer. For recording and video calls, those on the other end noticed better sound from the Samson. It receives (microphone, not camera) from 360-degrees (or just in front via a slide switch) so it can work for moving around or having more than one person talking. Nice. Lastly, it connects to your computer with a USB-C connector and also offers a mini headphone jack. This product is probably not for everyone, but if you want something high-quality that also travels well, this might be for you!

For the last few days, I've been testing out the Samson Go Mic Video webcam and microphone combo. Some of the things I like are that it feels and looks premium. Most of its parts are made of aluminum and some plastic. It is plug and play and works on both mac and PC. Meaning I don't need to download any software or drivers to use it. It's small and easily fits in a laptop bag. Also, it provides excellent sound reproduction and better video than most cameras that are built-in to laptops. However, there is one main thing I don't like about it. The clamp that attaches it to the screen of a laptop is too strong. It provides some great stability, but I can't help fearing that it is going to break my monitor. This is especially scary on newer laptops with small bezels and no gorilla glass. With that said, there are other mounting options like placing it on a table or using a tripod, but then you are either looking up your nose or negating the fact that it has a small form factor because you must carry around a tripod. Overall, it is a nice device but it’s just not for me.

The Samson Go Mic Video USB microphone with webcam is the perfect addition to your desktop monitor or a replacement for your laptop built-in webcam and microphone. The physical design is radically different from traditional microphone or webcam design as it is a collapsible which gives it which when collapsed is about the size of a battery phone charger. Do note this is the upgrade of the popular Samson mic since it now includes a webcam. The Samson USB mic connects to your PC via a USB-C cable (provided) and is both PC and Mac compatible. No drivers are needed as this is already plug-and-play for both platforms. Once expanded, the Samson can be clipped on the monitor, attached to a mini-tripod or simply stand on its own. What makes this different is that the included mic has both cardioid and omni polar modes, meaning by selecting a switch on the side, the microphone can be directional which is good for video calls or blogging and and also be set as omni-directional which makes it perfect for group calls. The downside though not a deal breaker is that a foam or deadcat is not included which makes the mic record unwanted background noise ar times, The included video cam is 1080p which is better than most built-in webcams found in most laptops. Not much can be said here save for the fact that it works as intended. Also, I wish a cover foot he webcam has been incorporated in the design. And lastly, a jack si included should you prefer to use use earphones, The Samson USB mic with FHD webcam is truly a nice accessory for your PC or Mac. I would recommend to anyone.

I've run across a couple issues with this camera/microphone combo, most notably, the inability for the camera to work with computers that are technically tablets, such as the Surface Book or Surface Pro. I have all the Surface products, and I am only able to get the camera to work on my Surface Laptop. This leads me to conclude that the onboard driver is not designed to support computers that are deemed tablets. I imagine the developers will issue a firmware update for this, but as for now, the microphone is the only component that functions on my Surface Book and Surface Pro. Another issue I encountered is the spring loaded clipping mechanism used to secure the device to a monitor. First off, I can't secure this to my Surface laptop because it springs right off. I also think it's dangerous because of the amount of pressure it puts on the actual screen. Spring loaded mechanisms were great when monitors had wide bezzles, but now that bezzles are virtually invisible, the pressure of the device goes right onto the screen. I also have a 49" ultra ultra wide curved monitor that I use, and again, the clipping mechanism prevents me from mounting the device on top of my monitor. The combination of a curved monitor, plus a spring loaded clip, prevents the device from successfully mounting. The microphone is great, very powerful, very crisp, all around good range of sound. The device itself is very small, folds up easily, and had a real feeling of quality. The camera, what I used it on my Surface Laptop, worked very well. It has a sharp image, much better than the built in camera on my laptop. Another really nice feature is you can stand the device up independently because the base is heavy enough to act as a stand (see photo)

The quality of the mic is excellent. It does a good job removing or softening background noise while it captures my voice loudly and clearly. Both the camera and microphone are superior in quality compared to the camera and mics on my laptops. I am also able to clip it onto the side of my 32-inch curved gaming monitor. The monitor’s frame is thicker on top, so it couldn’t securely clip onto the top of the monitor. Curved gaming monitors are usually thicker, so the clip wasn’t designed for something this thick. However, for most monitor and laptop screens it should clip on just fine. I estimate that the clip can securely clip onto anything that is ¾ of an inch or smaller. I tested the camera and mic during standard work meetings and during recorded gaming sessions I post to YouTube (see pics). OBS studio easily recognized it as “Go Mic Video” in the settings. And both the sound and video were clear and sharp during my recording sessions. Overall, it a solid microphone, and the built in camera is a convenient option when needed. I usually order just the mic but looks like Bestbuy is running out of the product and now offering mic/camera option which obviously is pricier. As far as the product, it does help sure! Failure rate <5% after 6 months. I buy a lot for work.

I like that you could clip it to a screen and monitor but the little space it takes up is a bit annoying. The quality of picture is great, but the mic is just a simple mic. I hate that it automatically connects when I tried to uase my good mic

I use this mic for zoom calls, podcasting with a guest and even for camming online! It has really great audio playback and it is SO easy to install!

I have used this camera for both podcasting and recording videos. It is a nice little alternative to the basic computer camera.
