Great with a POWERED usb port
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fortunately, I found an online source that told me to get a powered USB port. Works well in that setting, with the gain turned all the way up. (May even be able to turn it down a little.) Connected to the computer, I was only getting 25% volume, even with the gain screw turned up to maximum.

Works well!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Handy little device. The only thing thing that would make it a solid 5 would be the inclusion of the adapter type needed to connect to a mobile phone.

My New Favorite Lav Mic!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're in the market for a lightweight, user-friendly lavalier mic with easy setup, flexible use, good range, and great audio pickup - look no further than this Samson XPD. Lavalier microphone systems are not created equally, and it can be hard to find a system that combines both quality and cost-effectiveness. Samson may have the solution with their XPD Series. Inside the box you have: * RXD2 USB-A Receiver * PXD1 Transmitter * Lavalier Microphone * USB-A Extender * Quick Start Guide I setup, tested, and used the following platforms: * MacBook Pro M1 * iPad Pro 12.9" (2020) * iPhone 12 Pro Max * Dell Inspiron w/ Intel i7 * ASUS Zephyrus M16 w/ Intel i9 Setup across all devices was plug-and-play, incredibly easy. It should be noted - you will need 2AA batteries for the transmitter, along with any dongles or adapters if your device does not have a USB-A connection. Initial setup takes just a few minutes. You will need to place the batteries into transmitter and attach the lavalier microphone to it as well. * Attach the receiver to your computer, phone, etc. * Power on the transmitter * Pair the devices together by holding the pair button on the receiver for approximately five seconds, and holding the power button on the transmitter for the same duration. This does not have to be completed each time. (I should mention my devices came paired out of the box, but I am unsure if that is standard with Samson.) You will likely need to change the "primary" microphone or input on your device prior to use. Essentially telling your laptop, tablet, etc. to use the lavalier mic instead of the native, built-in mic. Once you have your transmitter and receiver paired, you are ready to go. Samson states a range of 100' which I found to be fairly accurate. One thing I did find to be a bit of an inconvenience is the location of the gain adjustment, which is under the battery cover. Samson did provide a mini screwdriver which is also located under the battery cover and stores nicely. Luckily this is not a setting I needed to adjust continually. Using the Samson XPD was quite nice. The mic has an attached wind cover and does a decent job of blocking out minor wind noise and sounds from the mic brushing against clothing. The microphone picked up my voice clearly and with minimal ambient interference. The receiver did a great job at receiving the audio, even at further distances. The microphone cord has plenty of length to easily stretch from the transmitter to the lapel. The transmitter is of average size and weight, easily fitting into a pocket, or attaching to your person with the built-in belt clip. While the transmitter is plastic, it really has a more premium feel overall. It does not feel or appear flimsy or cheap. Generally speaking, I'm pretty impressed with the overall performance and ease of use. Were there any "wow" factors? No. But there isn't much to dislike about this lavalier microphone system either. Quite simply - it just works. It is well-made, decently priced, easy to setup and use, and records quality audio.

Take your presentation to the next level
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sampson Wireless Microphone XPD series is a true performer. If you want to take your presentation to the next level in a larger setting where you need to amplify your voice, this is it. Works best with line of sight, but it says it works up to 98 feet away. Just to try it, I used it through a wall with limited success. So line of sight is the best way in my experience. I have not tested it nearly close to the maximum distance, as the computer set up I use is typically closer to me than the audience. The transmitter part connects easily to your belt. It doesn’t restrict movement in anyway, and it is about the size of a small pager (am I dating myself?). Since I usually wear a suit jacket, this the mic up to my tie and boom. Ready for action. The receiver you just plug into the side of your computer. I use a Mac, but you can also use it just as easily with a PC, as it is dual compatible. So this thing is made for presentations. So if you think you are going to use it to play super spy and record peoples conversations, you are mistaken. First of all that is illegal in many states (two party consent is needed). And second, this is not what it is made for and it won’t work for that. I am only saying this, because my friend looked at it and asked if it could be used for that purpose. After making fun of him, he eventually understood. This is a tool for presentations. Much like the clicker you hold in your hand, this just takes things to a more professional level and to me is meant to be used with a larger audience. The price is very reasonable for what you are getting and the quality of the device is top notch. For anyone looking to conduct speeches to larger groups where you need to project your voice, this is the tool for you. I highly recommend it.

Good Quality wireless mic with range
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was looking for a mic that is portable for my vlogs using my iPhone 12 pro max and came across this little device that doesn’t break the bank. So far it performs as expected. Sound is clear, crisp and audible. When using iPhone, you would need an adapter that connects to lighting port. Suggest to purchase an OEM authentic one as I had no luck with knockoff brands. This uses a license free 2.4 GHZ band and so range is restricted if you outside in a crowded place but much better than Bluetooth. This XPD2 model has a 3.5 mm jack in the receiver compared to the previous gen. Tested with windows and mac machines. Works great with 1 touch pairing. Battery life is good for around 18 hours with the range of around 30m line of sight. Overall, it works as expected.

Samson Microphone
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This microphone works really well. You have to clip the microphone part on the wearer's shirt - so make sure it is high enough to be close to their mouth and not in a spot that will have the material rub against it. Otherwise it works great!

Super simple set up
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m pretty impressed by this mic so far and optimistic about all its use cases for mobile filmmaking, among other things. To start with, it’s dead easy to set up and that can’t be understated for a piece of kit like this. You plug the mic into the battery pack, the Bluetooth transmitter into a Lightning-to-USB dongle (if using an iPhone) and voila - you’re in business. I haven’t used it yet with my DSLR, but I’m all but confident I can concoct a way to connect that using a USB to 3.5mm dongle of some kind. But my primary use will be with an iPhone and after making these simple connections all you have to do is turn the battery pack on. There’s no app to download or anything. It works perfectly well with the stock camera app. While I need to do more tests before using it on any sort of more advanced shoot, I was extremely impressed by the noise blocking this mic provides. I tried it while another person was vacuuming in the room above me in my house and this mic did not pick up the vacuum at all. I mean, like at all. Secondly, while using it on a person walking in and out of frame (and pretty far from camera - I believe the range is around 150ft) for a long take there was no rustling of clothing recorded or anything like that. The voice came through perfectly clear. That really impressed me, as it’s so easy to pick up that kind of thing in general. One note: the volume out of the box is substantially lower than what the phone’s built-in mic is. I need to find the best setting, but you will likely need to adjust the gain which can be done by turning a knob behind the door of the battery pick. Of course, increasing gain increases the likelihood of distortion and background noise, but I found a happy medium without much difficulty. Again, this seems like it will be a great lav for the price, especially for filmmaking, but I can also see it being a terrific option for podcasters or ever video calls. I may give it a shot on Zoom some time using my audio interface. The mic is small enough that it is easy to mask on a dark shirt, or just crop out of the frame. Cool product!

I'm going wireless!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although, this isn't a wire-free lavalier setup, it gets the job done and more simplified. Setup was very easy and straightforward. From unboxing to pairing, and adjusting gains and audio levels, it took me no longer than 2 minutes. I also have the wired version of this exact mic and, as far as, sound quality goes, it's just about equal. However, I had to turn the gain to just under max to get it to be audible on my Macbook Pro. Upon playback The sound is very clear, but I could hear lots of background noise, and at times it would be difficult to hear someone standing right in front of me. I would have to remove the mic and place it directly in front of subject. I definitely say that you need to be in a very quiet space. To counter that, it came in super handy recently when shooting a mini brand commercial, where I was able to directly record my audio on my laptop and sync it to the footage. It eliminated the extra step of having to transfer audio from an external source. This may be my new favorite fast way to record audio directly and voiceovers. It was the most stress free experience because I didn't have to worry about any extra cords, heavy cumbersome mics, etc. One of the grievances I have with this is that it isn't a true wireless or wire-free system, where I don't have to be tethered to a battery pack with a wired mic. I would love to see Samson come out with their total wire-free wireless lavalier solution. Another grievance is that if you didn't already have a lighting to USB adapter for iPhone, or other adapter for Android, that would be an extra expense. I would've liked to see a dual device USB adapter included. Other than that, It makes for a great-quality-sound-fast-and-easy lavalier.

Worst. Lavalier. Ever.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because it was the highest-rated lavalier that was in stock at my local store. It's a rating that's sorely undeserved. In brief: I used this within 20 feet of the receiver. Still had issues with audio dropping out. NO volume whatsoever from the USB dongle. I turned the gain on the belt pack to maximum, and what I got was a muddy audio stream (and that's when I got anything at all.) It was utterly useless for what I needed it for. It's bad enough that I need to say this twice: the audio quality was ATROCIOUS. I have an 11-year-old condenser mic from Insignia that sounds FAR better than this. DO NOT buy this. Period.

excellent audio quality, good range
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very easy to use wireless microphone system with very good sound quality. What's in the box: wireless microphone pack, USB receiver, 6" usb extension cable and a manual. Setup: Very easy. install 2 AA batteries in the pack, plug in the microphone cable to the pack and plug in the receiver to your computer. There is no setup other than that. No software to install and the pack was already synced with the receiver. Use: Once you plug in the receiver, my computer recognized it as a USB audio device. Simply turn on the pack and you are good to go. The clip on microphone has 2 small cable channels that help you orient the clip depending on the type of clothing you are attaching it to. This is a very nice touch. There is an adjustable gain inside of the wireless pack, with an included small screwdriver, this is a nice feature to help with audio levels depending on the speaker. Sound quality: very good. I use logic pro to record audio, and this microphone sounds very good even without compression or any eq adjustments. I still did, and it sounded just that much better. But the raw audio is great! There is also a line out jack on the receiver which is nice for using headphones if you do not have another way to monitor the input. Range: not as good as some other packs, but this is a very small receiver that is powered by USB and not a wall outlet, so the range is very good for what it is. I have no problems with it. Overall: this is a very nice wireless microphone, and would definitely recommend it!
