A Lav Mic I can use with my iPhone

Holy Cow… I have been recording videos with my iPhone forever and I always wanted a good wireless microphone to pick up the speaker further away from the phone. WOW! This is amazing. So simple to use and lightweight. You will need 2 - AA batteries and in this example if you want to use with your iPhone you will also need the USB to Lighting adapter. It is plug and play. To get started, I plugged my USB to Lightning adapter into my iPhone, then I plugged the Samson USB receiver into the cable from my phone. I clipped the mic to my shirt and turned on the unit. I was ready to record. I could walk all around the room and my voice was picked up perfectly and synced well with my video. No issues at all. The mic unit is lightweight. I hardly notice I am wearing it. You can even add headphones to the AUX port in the USB receiver so you can monitor the incoming sound from the microphone. Very nice. One bonus they do include a USB extension cable. It is rated USB 3.0 and should come in handy for plugging the USB receiver into hard to reach ports on the recording devices. The extension cable is not very long, but should serve the purpose well and I am really happy they included it in the original box. There are not a lot of settings on the transmitter, but I don’t really want many. One feature you do get is the ability to tweak the gain, which will come in handy depending on the user and the environment.

    Quality Wireless Microphone

If you are looking for a very good wireless microphone for your video streaming or vlogging, then the Samson XPD Series Wireless Lavalier Microphone System may be for you. The system is small and lightweight and is easy to connect. Out of the box the first thing you will notice is it does require 2 AA batteries to work. That fact is not on the front of the box. It is written in small print on the side. You should get about 20 hours with the 2 batteries. If you have a lot of use for this system, you may want rechargeable batteries as replacing these weekly will add up over time. Regardless, just open the front cover and place the batteries in. It is simple. Out of the box you will also find a USB dongle and adapter. This dongle is the receiver for you microphone. The dongle is fairly wide at the base, so if you have closely mounted USB inputs, you may need the adapter or else you will lose being able to use the adjacent slot. Once the dongle was plugged in, both my Windows 10 machine and my MacBook easily recognized the device. After about a minute, it was ready to use. You likely will need to play around with the setting on the microphone. I found that out of the box, I had to speak loudly to even be heard. This is fixable with the adjustable gain. The gain is found under the front cover where the batteries are located. You remove the included small screwdriver and adjust the gain. It is easy but may take a few iterations to find the correct setting for you. In my case, I turned the gain full up. The microphone itself is small. It has a clip so you can attach it to your shirt collar or other part of your clothes. You must be a little aware of placement though. It kind of reminded me of the movie, Singin’ In The Rain. In the movie, they are making a new talking movie. The actress must talk directly into the microphone to be heard. However, she can’t figure it out and the talking gets louder or softer depending on how she moves her head. The same thing can happen here. So you want the microphone to be close to whatever you are recording so the sound is consistent. I mostly have used this directly in front of a computer for making videos or conference calls. You can vlog on an iPhone or other smartphone. You will need an adapter though to be able to use the USB dongle. There is no direct input into the phone from the microphone. You can record as far as 100 feet away from the USB dongle. This distance is mostly outside. As interference source are introduced such as being inside, that distance is reduced a bit. The one thing I did notice was that the device did not have a mute button on it. So once it is one, it is picking up everything. This is just something to thing about when using. Overall, I enjoy the Samson Wireless Microphone System. I do wish it would have a recharging capability instead of running on batteries. I also would prefer a mute button on the waste clip to easily cutoff unwanted sounds. But the functionality is great, and it does the job. I recommend the Samson System to anyone needing a wireless microphone system.

This microphone system is very very simple to use. Its plug and play capabilities make it very convenient for on the fly audio recording especially with live video. The audio sound itself on the recording is great but you still need to make adjustments for gain which can be done with the included screw driver. It operated good during windy sessions but doesn't cancel out all noise around completely so you'll still pick up some background. The microphone is rated for 100 feet of wireless coverage and I got just about that before it started cutting off and not recording. I was also able to connect the receiver to my phone with an adapter which made it so much more convenient than having to use a laptop. Overall, I would recommend this for teachers, YouTubers, and vloggers.

    Decent Wireless Mic

If you're looking for a wireless mic for video shoots then you won't go wrong with this one from Samson. Just go in knowing the limits. While advertised as wireless there are some limitations. I have used this with my Mac, PC, iPad Pro (with dongle), and iPhone 12 Max (with dongle) and in each instance the quality of the audio recorded has been exceptional. I've been impressed and that is not an easy accomplishment. The wire for the mic could stand to be a bit longer but I'm also a larger guy. If you're average sized you'll probably be just fine. Weight is negligible and if you wire yourself up right folks will have a hard time knowing you're wearing a mic. If you're a video blogger, or YouTuber then this will come in rather handy.

I have been a video producer for many years, and its always a struggle to get people mic'd properly. I was excited to give this a try because it seemed so simple and was quite cost effective! This is definitely more of a budget system, but don't let that fool you. It is actually a really good quality system! Right out of the box there isnt a whole lot to it. You get the receiver, the microphone and a USB-C extender cable. I plugged it into my computer and it was automatically recognized and I was able to record directly into my editing program without having to install any other drivers or software or anything! You just plug the microphone into the transmitter, press pair on the receiver, and then plug the receiver into your computer. Simple as that! There is also a 1/8" headphone jack that you can also use as a line out. If you're out in the field and want to use this you can just use that output and plug into your camera or audio recorder. You will need to bring along a little USB battery pack though to power the receiver. I was recording all day and never needed to change the 2 AA batteries needed to power the microphone transmitter. The sound quality is definitely very acceptable. Sure, its not as good as a high end lav mic, but it will definitely do the trick for most amateur productions! I know there is also a headset mic that Samson has that would work with this system as well (not sure if there is any other devices) So if you need one of those, you are covered as well! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a lavalier mic system that doesn't want to spend a ton of money!

Plug and play for your sound needs. Very easy to sync and operate with one touch and works over the advertised 100 foot range in my experience. I use this for presentations with my laptop and with a lightning to USB adapter the XPD2 works with iOS devices. The sound picked up is great is high quality. Very straightforward easy to use external mic.

This Samson XPD2 Lavalier USB Digital Wireless System allows one to have a lightweight, affordable option for capturing audio for broadcast, presentation and live streaming. The system is easy to sync and operate as it is plug-and-play for Mac and Windows. With a lightning to USB camera adapter it will work with an Ipad/Iphone or with Android devices via a host OTG adapter. Included in the system is the USB stick receiver, USB extension, transmitter and “clip to clothing” mic. Specs state the beltpack transmitter will power for 20 hours on two AA batteries and will provide 100’ of reliable, wireless operation. In our use with a pc we found the system easy to use and it worked well for our needs. It’s nice to know that one has options for other accessories from the Samson line to use a handheld mic for interview situations or a headset mic for closer proximity to your audio. Two systems can be used simultaneously and a system can also connect to PA systems with USB connectivity. We’d recommend this as a nice option for an affordable, convenient, wireless mic system that is easy to connect and operate.

    Very Good, Almost Great

This is a very good effort on the part of Samson to produce a high-quality wireless lavalier microphone system. Out of the box it is extremely easy to set up and begin using...it is easy and simple a true plug-n-play device. Using a Windows 10 computer, it was recognized and set up immediately, and ready to use. I began with a simple sound quality test using the tools available in Windows settings. The first results were acceptable, but not great. With a bit of tweaking and gain adjustment, the sound quality eventually became quite good. After the initial tests, I tried with a video recording program I have installed. I was actually quite pleased with the recording quality, especially considering the price point. There was no "lag" whatsoever, or any other such issues. There are a couple of issues that stand in the way, however. Although the recording quality was quite good, the range was not as expected. At around 50', I noticed a bit of an occasional drop. At 70' there was no longer any communication between the mic and the unit. This is a bit less than the 100' advertised. Also, I have to admit I had quite the struggle with the included screwdriver provided for gain adjustment. It came out of its holder super easily, but after several minutes of trying to get it back into the holder again, I simply gave up out of frustration. I was, however, finally able to get it back in the next day when I had more time to deal with it. The microphone is quite sensitive, so I found I had to be quite selective in where I wore it. When I put it inside my shirt (to hide it from camera view), it picked up all the rustling of the clothing. Now, I don't consider this a negative, rather a good positive characteristic. After all, I want it to be able to pick up clearly. Other than the distance issue and the screwdriver issue, I am SUPER pleased with the Samson - XPD Series Wireless Lavalier Microphone System. It is perfect for lectures, presentations, and most video applications. I would absolutely HIGHLY RECOMMEND this wireless microphone to anyone needing a good, all-around very-good quality wireless system.

I am recently starting creating advertising and presentation content for my grad school classes. I owned a couple of microphones for audio recording as well. I found this microphone to be very useful and practical. I decided to use this microphone using my iPhone as both the visual and audio recorder. I looked into the microphone accessories, and I found the Apple lighting to USB Camera Adapter. It made using this product a breeze with decent audio content. You'll need to buy batteries to operate this microphone. You will need 2 AA batteries. You can also adjust the gains. This product is functional and straightforward. It will not wow you, but it will provide some decent audio recording for a reasonable price. I recommend it. I am having a lot of fun using it for my classes as it makes it look professional without paying the price. I recommend.

Huge difference over using my phone's mic. I was hesitant to use an external mic at first because of wires and just plain ignorance of how an external input can add to the complexity of translating the audio into my output. This wireless lavalier system just made everything easier. Besides my only concern of having to get a usb-c to usb-a adapter to plug it in, everything else is easy. It was easily detected by my phone as a mic source. I just had to adjust my app mic settings to "system default." The audio is clearer on my videos especially that I have a lot of road noise at my workplace. My voice quality is very focused on my vocals versus hearing other environment sounds, so this will be much better if I do walking videos or street recordings. I don't have to face my phone a certain way to get good quality. Also, I can move around and not have to worry about any inconsistency in my vocal level. Best of all, the lavalier is simply hidden in my shirt, my videos will still look all natural without any visual of microphones or headsets. It's a no-brainer for anyone who records using their mobile phones. The audio quality is already worth it, all the more that it is wireless. I recommend.

    Excellent Audio Quality

Back in the day, I was a wedding videographer using a VHS camcorder to record the events but that was over 20 years ago. I used a Samson wireless mic on the groom so the audio would come out clear. It used an 1/8 inch plug that connected to the camcorder. These days, I don't shoot weddings anymore but I do on occasion get called upon at work to shoot promotional videos and interviews. I don't know what happened to my old mic so I decided to get a new one. Since most of the videos are for in house use, my iPhone 12 Pro Max is a good alternative to buying a new digital camcorder. I usually just attach it to a tripod and have the person on camera speak loudly into the iPhone. Not very professional by my standards. When I saw this Samson XPD2 Lavalier microphone I realized that this would be the mic to get. This mic pack runs on 2 AA batteries has a very secure metal belt clip, a small antenna and most importantly a removable microphone. There are many times people in the past using my old microphone accidentally caught the wire on something and broke the cable which was costly to repair. I'm sure if this one breaks I'll be able to buy a new replacement mic and just plug it in. Samson was kind enough to even include a tiny screwdriver inside the battery compartment to adjust the gain if needed. Since this mic uses a 2.4GHz digital wireless system, the audio will be a lot cleaner than my old analog mic was. I was testing it around my house and found I could walk about 30 feet from the receiver and still get a clear recording. I did notice when I walked past my stainless steel refrigerator, the audio got choppy so clean line-of-site is the best way to get good audio. The receiver unit doesn't require a battery as it plugs into an iPhone (or Android), an iPad or a computer and using audio recording software it will work fine. The receiver will plug directly into the USB jack on a computer and does not require any extra drivers. If you need to use it on some kind of equipment that doesn't have USB, there is a standard 1/8" jack on the bottom of the receiver that can be plugged into the device with a standard 1/8" patch cable. Please be aware if you plan to use it with a phone or tablet you will need an adapter. I had a USB-A to USB-C adapter so I was able to try it on my iPad immediately but I had to order a USB-A to Lightning adapter so I could plug it into my iPhone. I can now shoot video with the receiver attached and get excellent audio to go with the 4K video. Audio is the most important part of a video because if the audio is bad, nobody is going to watch it. Connecting the microphone was very simple, I just plugged the receiver into the iPhone using the adapter, turned on the transmitter and pressed the pairing button on the receiver, and then went to the Bluetooth settings on the iPhone and selected it and when it connected, I was able to use all kinds of apps such as the standard camera app, Voice Memos, Quick Voice, RecorderHQ, MicSwap and I want to create a quick podcast I can even use Anchor. There are many other great audio and video apps available on the Appstore and this Samson Lavalier will work with any of them. All in all, this is a great microphone to carry with me on a shoot.

This lavalier mic was easy to set up. Found that you needed to be relatively close for the receiver to be able to pick up the sound. Used to record some lectures for a college class that I am teaching online and it did a good job. Much better than using the computer mic. The main reason for the 3 stars is that it is not built for durability. The wire that holds the mic to the body pack is terribly thin and has no protection. I do not foresee it lasting more than a few month with regular use.

Having the mic close to your mouth (like a collar) makes you sound alot clearer than a camera mounted mic. The only thing i dont like is that the cord is kinda thin... hope it dont break.

So I wanted this so I could get better audio while recording from my cellphone on the go. It seems like a great piece of kit and exactly what on the go YouTubers would need. Sadly it's not what I had hoped for. 1st is the connection. It's just not great. I've had plenty of devices connected to my S21 Ultra and had no issues but I e had many issues with this dropping connection. It's irritating to say the least. The other issue is that the mic doesn't actually sound all that good. I'd dare say the built in mic in my phone offers a better sound which really isn't good enough for something like this. After using it for a couple if days I decided to out it back in the box and not use it. It's a great idea but seems to have issues in quality and if you're a blogger it something like that then you'll find this annoying.
