Samsung products are leaving a lot to be desired

The MC17J8000CS had so many issues that we eventually gave up on it and bought this ME19R7041FS (taking these up and down from over the range is not something you want to have to do so often). After a little over a year of service (two days, in fact), this microwave now randomly powers completely off and the only way to get it turned back on is to leave it unplugged for about 30 minutes. We have Geeksquad support, but the on-going frustration of this and other Samsung appliances breaking down over a four year span (oven (NX58H9500WS/AA), dishwasher (DW80J7550US), and fridge (RH25H5611SR/AA)) is very disheartening and will eventually drive us toward a more reliable brand.

I closed it good and hit start and nothing happens but the activated timer counts down but does not actually turn the microwave on. Called customer service which is horrid, tech comes out for 5 minutes and says I have to order a part and they will call when it’s in. So still not fixed.

We understand that your microwave timer will run but will not heat up.
The most common reason for the microwave not starting or heating is that it is in demo mode. It is used on retail showroom floors to show off microwaves without activating their magnetrons.

Missing a couple of standard features

However... I would not recommend this microwave. It's missing a couple of features that I (and I think most people) take for granted now. The keypad is not backlit, which means it's impossible to use at night in a dark, or semi-dark, kitchen, without turning on the overhead light. In addition, you can't use the microwave and the timer at the same time! I was sure I was missing something here, and discovered it just doesn't work that way. So if I'm using the microwave kitchen timer for something I have in the oven, I can't also use the microwave to heat up something. Obviously, there are ways to work around this. But it was frustrating and surprising to find this out... too late.

The kitchen timer does not start or stop cooking functions. You cannot set or change the timer if a time-based function is operating (i.e., Time bake) or if Sabbath Mode is enabled.
