If I had rated this fridge during the first year of owning it, it would get an easy 5 stars, it looks great and has tons of space. However, this and many Samsung refrigerators have many design problems that render them useless 2-4 years after purchase. I just bought a new GE to replace my 3-year old Samsung. My fridge started having problems just after its second birthday; ice builds up inside the back wall of the fridge and starts to hit the evaporator fan, which makes it sound like there is a small airplane landing in your kitchen. To fix this, you have to take out all of your shelves and all of your food, unscrew the panel on the back wall of the refrigerator compartment, and use a hair dryer for 15-20 minutes to melt all of the ice buildup. I have to do this time consuming procedure every 2 weeks. I posted a pic showing the tremendous amount of ice this fridge can accumulate (there should be no ice buildup at all in a properly designed fridge). There is a black heating element designed to prevent icing, you can see it in the bottom of the pic, but it is nowhere near where the ice is actually forming. I have had a several repair people say this is a non-fixable design flaw and cannot be repaired. Samsung service is even worse, they just tell me to contact a local repair shop (which I already did), to somehow fix an unfixable design problem. Don't believe me? Google the term "samsung fridge icing up" and you can click on the samsung forum with hundreds of reports of this problem. And then there is the ice maker. There is a class action lawsuit pending over this ice maker (you can google this as well), which frosts over and freezes, so it makes no ice. It needs to be regularly defrosted with a hair dryer. It also dispenses melting ice water with the cubes, which aren't really cubes but are broken off pieces of half-melted ice. The Samsung customer service couldn't care less, it's not their problem if it is out of warranty, even though these units should be recalled due to numerous design problems. I would run as far away from anything made by Samsung and do your research before you buy. Do yourself a favor and buy any other brand, unless prefer to have to throw away a $2000 fridge after 3 years like I now have to do. It is robbery that these units are still for sale on showroom floors, Best Buy should do some research on these issues and assess whether they should continue selling a defective product with widespread problems.

Fundamental Design Flaw - Class Action Lawsuit

Where do I begin with this utter piece of TRASH that Samsung decided to call a refrigerator. This refrigerator was purchased new in early 2017 along with an entire kitchen suite of Samsung appliances AND a Samsung front load washer and dryer combo. Of the numerous, and I mean numerous problems we've had with all of these Samsung appliances; this "refrigerator" certainly takes the cake for worst appliance I have ever owned. Throughout the course of my 2+ year ownership of this refrigerator I have had 14, yes, FOURTEEN service calls on this refrigerator. There are 2 main critical design flaws with this refrigerator. 1. Ice continuously builds up around the top of the compressor lines that enter the refrigerator. These are located behind a plastic panel at the back of the refrigerator. This ice builds up and blocks the primary fan from circulating cold air into the refrigerator. Once this happens everything is 'luke-warm' inside but this "intelligent" refrigerator still thinks its cold inside because the temperature probe is not actually located inside the refrigerator. I have had all the manufacturer's recommended "fixes" for this completed several times over and nothing solves this problem. We have tried new condenser line sensor, main board replacement, installing of the new, longer drain probe for the evaporator heating element, installing the updated version of the condensation drain tube rubber fittings that allow water to flow through but no air back in, and about 5 different back panel replacements with ZERO effectiveness. This #1 issue is a material weakness to the design of this refrigerator, Samsung is fully aware of this issue and CONTINUES to sell this design to US consumers. This should warrant a class action lawsuit for this reason alone. 2. The ice maker fails to drop ice into the tray because it freezes to the side of the ice maker. This is a well documented issue as well and there is no fix for this design. I have had Samsung authorized repair technicians, centerpoint technicians, and Sears technicians work on this refrigerator and the message is clear: STAY AWAY FROM SAMSUNG REFRIGERATORS.

To say that I "hate" this fridge is an understatement, there isn't a word to describe my disdain. I am writing this review after taking a metal spatula to bash the huge ice chunk build up that forms at the bottom floor of the fridge below the freezer for the umpteenth time. I have to awkwardly reach my hand in and hack the ice up, coax it out, then sweep it all up with a dust pan and dump it in the sink. I do this about once a week. I believe what happens is that if someone (or most of the time, probably a kid) opens it and doesn't close it quite all the way, air gets in, and there's enough to drip ice down to the bottom which builds up a thick layer of ice. There is nothing in the way of an alarm or bell that indicates it might be slightly cracked open. This also leaves a heavy frost on all of the drawer parts, and comprises the food in the freezer. This is the worst part, but that's not the end of it. The ice maker is LOUD. It drops the ice into the ice bin once it's been made, often in the middle of the night, and makes quite a large sound, which is particularly off putting at first. The door shelves have plastic sides to hold in jars and what not. almost all of them have cracked or downright broken. I have two of them duct taped together. I talked to Samsung when this first happened under warranty, and they said they don't cover such things. The meet/cheese drawer below the two crisper drawers seems like a good idea, but you can't open it without both doors being open, not convenient whatsoever. Also, the drawer often gets off track which doesn't allow you to close it all of the way. The lid to ours completely broke off and now we just leave it off because there was no way to fix it (the hinges busted). Last but not least the two crisper drawers also jam regularly. Samsung called me about renewing my warranty after a year or whatever it was. I said "if I renew, can you fix all of the broken parts in the fridge - the shelves, the drawer lid, etc" and she said "no, our warranty only covers the mechanical parts." I told her no thank you, and that I would never buy a Samsung product again. That's a promise. The only thing this fridge does well is keep food cold in the refrigerator. It's not just me, my wife hates it too. It wasn't cheap, so we can't exactly just get rid of it and waste the money. Please please please do not purchase this fridge. Trust me.

Caveat Emptor “let the buyer beware”

    Dissatisfied

It is my contention that Samsung Corporation knowingly used inferior stainless steel - that spontaneously begins to rust within 7 months of purchase - in the manufacture and/or assembly our 7 month old refrigerator. After all, why would the warranty for refrigerator # RFG******* state “This limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship…” and then afterward state “and shall not apply to the following, including, but not limited to… cosmetic damage or exterior finish.” I am left to speculate that Samsung does not produce sheets of stainless steel for this refrigerator and that it purchases said material from a supplier of inferior quality materials. Thus the warranty states that it covers manufacturing defects (if manufactured by Samsung) or poor workmanship. As the problem is not poor workmanship (or cosmetic damage) in the assembly of the refrigerator but poor quality components manufactured by an assumed outside entity, Samsung will not warrant the exterior finish of this product. Samsung’s response to my concerns? Clean the rust off and apply an appliance wax to hinder the rust build-up. Really? Had I known that the above fine print was in the warranty I probably would not have purchased the unit. This is our second Samsung refrigerator (the older one very similar to the new but it had an icemaker/water dispenser in the door). The first had a white enamel finish that always look like new. Because Samsung refuses to replace the door of an almost new refrigerator I am left to wonder, do they really care about losing me as a repeat customer? Best Buy refused to help at all. The store manager simply told me that it is Best Buy’s policy to honor the manufacturer’s warranty. I informed him that this does not help me at all as Samsung has no warranty on exterior finishes. So Best Buy is going to honor Samsung’s non-warranty. Thanks for nothing. BTW, my wife and I also purchased, from Best Buy, a Samsung gas range/oven, Bosch dishwasher, and Kitchen Aide trash compactor within the last year. Do you really want our economic relationship to come to an abrupt end? Let it be known to all that Best Buy is now put on notice that they in fact know that Samsung does not offer a warranty on the exterior finish of this refrigerator. It was sold to us as having an excellent warranty and if we had any problems within the first year Samsung would fix the problem. I believe this to be true except for the exterior finish – especially if it is stainless steel. To Best Buy and Samsung: I don’t need to purchase anything from either of you. I have many options available to me. If you will not satisfy us in our desire to have a refrigerator that does not spontaneously rust, I must conclude that you really don’t care to conduct any further business with me and my family. Good day.

The day the refrigerator was installed it started making a noise within a few hours. The flap for the ice maker would open and shut for minutes before stopping. It stopped doing it that day so I did nothing about it. About 10 months later it started again sometimes for hours. I call Samsung to have it repaired and they sent someone to fix it. They replaced the touch screen on the door and the flap mechanism. It solved the noise problem, but they said they found another problem (the main PCB?) and said they would have to come back to fix it. They left a message one day saying they were coming out to fix it, but apparently they don't think we work so they just showed up without confirming the appointment. They were mad at us for not being there and showed up again the next day, again without confirming the appointment, but luckily my wife was home. They replaced the part and said to call them to confirm there was ice in the icemaker. There was so we called them, but then we realized the ice dispenser no longer worked. We called them back and they said the ticket was closed and we had to start the process all over again. I called Samsung and they asked my appointment preference date and said they would call to confirm. They confirmed the date and time, so I took off work for the third appointment and they never showed up and said they had no record of the appointment. I called Samsung and they blamed the repair place and said they couldn't help me on that day, but would call me next week to set up yet another appointment. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said they were busy and would call back within 24 to 48 hours. This is unacceptable! My wife or I will have to take a fourth day off work and hope they fix it this time. Of course the 1 year warranty is about to expire and they gave me a hard time about that, saying I had to show proof (again) of the purchase date and that the problem is related to the initial service call. At least my kids are happy; because of this experience we are trading in our Samsung phones for Apple and getting an iPad to replace our Samsung tablet. BTW, we paid about $1,900 around Memorial Day ("the lowest price of the season") and it went on sale for $1,800 a week or two later. Best Buy credited me the difference when I went to the store.

    Compressor out in 67 days

Bought this fridge in September 14, 2015 but didn’t have it delivered until December 21, 2015 due to kitchen remodeling. It was on sale during Labor Day and that was why we bought Samsung over other brands. Shame on me for not listening to advice from friends and family. Most had varies problems with Samsung fridges (different models). Mostly had compressor out with one year. This fridge started to make loud noise coming from compressor (continuous metal humming) last night at 1:08am, woke me up, and we are in a two stories. Had to sleep in study room which is furthest away from kitchen. Woke up 7:20am, the fridge loud noise still on. Called Samsung customer service, here go hoops to jump through. "Level the appliance, reset temp, buy and replace water filter..." Blah, blah, blah. This fridge was delivered and installed by Best Buy contracted delivery service and technician. If it was unleveled and improperly installed, it would have problem the next few days after installed and not two months later. Now front door dispenser is leaking water from ice melting in icemaker. In between calls, I asked across the street neighbor who is an independent appliance repair contractor, come over and immediately said its compressor problem. Also commented Samsung compressor is a well-known problem. Again, should have listened. After five calls today until 10:45am, finally a customer service “Erica” agreed to start ticket for repair technician. Earliest available day, Wednesday (It’s Sunday). Meanwhile we have plenty of half melted ice cream, worm yogurt, and worm milk to finish. This is a very expensive experience, I don’t know about other brands but I am counting 6 family member s and friends who had same compressor problem with their Samsung fridges within warranty period. All had difficult time getting problem resolved. My in law had 3 compressors replaced for the same fridge with 10 months period. I didn’t listen. Do yourself a favor, stay away from Samsung fridge. Samsung phones and TVs maybe, not fridge. Hope my expensive ongoing experience save you future trouble from owing a Samsung fridge.

I was fearful of the reviews I read about some of these units dying after only a few weeks or months. The Best Buy salesperson was adamant that Samsung was reliable so I went on his advice. I made a big mistake. The refrigerator worked great the first 3 weeks (conveniently after the 15 day Best Buy replacement period) but then was suddenly possessed. Strange things were happening with the display, alarm, and ice maker door. I got the error code PC Ch in a dim display while it was opening and closing the ice maker door repeatedly. A full power off and on would not restore it. I called Samsung and they assigned it to a local tech outlet. I called the tech outlet and they gave me an appointment 9 days away. I went back to Samsung to get another repair outlet. I called that place... they informed me they no longer do Samsung. The 3rd outlet was Dish(!) who were able to get to me in 2 days. While I was waiting for support, I found that the wiring harness had some sort of a short or broken wire(s) as if I touched it, the display would reset and sometimes stabilize. The tech (who was great) was able to confirm and find it was extremely unstable and unrepairable but had a hard time convincing Samsung tech support to replace the unit. He had to verify every wire and prove over video chat it was bad. Now, 4 days later, Samsung is telling me it may be another week before I get a replacement unit! Now 2 weeks with an unstable unit. Do not make the same mistake I made.... If Samsung customer service is going to reply with a sorry below, how about reaching out to customers who have a declared bad unit and getting them a next day replacement?

Miy compressor broke defrosted all my food. One hour on phone with scripted call takers that keep saying sorry. Three days later repairman comes and says I need a new compressor and he will come back in three days with one. Spends two hours replacing compressor and then says freezer might break again because the leak could be inside the fridge and he can't fix that. Two weeks later freezer dies I lose food again. Hour on hold and repairman needs to return to confirm problem. Three days later he returns and says I need a new fridge. Hour on hold and advised to send in picture of receipt! Spoke with two "Senior" customer service reps after hour on hold who provided me with their emails to communicate directly to avoid hour hold time Elizabeth H and Christina J i emailed both twice and never received any reply. After repairman left he let the remainder of freon out of fridge so now my entire fridge stopped working. Hour on hold and advised I need to wait three days for a refund approval. That would mean I'm expected to wait four days with no fridge at all. Finally receive approval for a refund and advised I won't be getting taxes back and they are only doing this as a courtesy? Isn't that what a warranty is for? This went on for weeks their customer service is horrible. One time they called me as I was waiting for my refund approval then tell me they will put me through to a "senior" customer service rep and I was put on hold for 30 min and a rep answers and says can I help you? They called me!! No idea why I was called. They make a nice looking product but GOOD LUCK if it breaks!!!!!

I'm not sure why I'm one of the only negative reviews, but I've had SOOOOOO many issues with this fridge. My refrigerator is only 3 years old and I have problems with this product every 3-4 months where I have to call our a maintenance repair guys to come out and repair it or order a "new part". It is crazy to me that such an expensive refrigerator has such issues. The most common one being that the fridge starts to make a loud humming noise and the back of the inside of the fridge ices over causing the fridge to no longer cool. This happened the week after I gave birth and we were stuck in the house with a newborn with a fridge full of now WASTED and RUINED food as well as spoiled breastmilk that I had pumped. It was devastating. The fact that this is a reoccurring issue and is now happening yet AGAIN is insane, I'm in complete shock that I'm dealing with this again and I still cannot receive a call back from the company. I am very disappointed in the quality of this product as well as the customer service I'd received from Samsung. I am running out of ways to contact the company to get a response and a way to make it right. Please tell me what I should do? What would you do in my shoes? Sincerely, Very Frustrated Mom who is sick of wasting valuable food destroyed by her Samsung fridge.

4.5 years and stopped working... really?

We loved this refrigerator when we purchased it. The amount of space was great and it was our first french door fridge; we will never go back to a side-by-side door model. The ice maker stopped working around 2 years (still under warranty) so we got that replaced. Then at 4.5 years, the ice maker, then the freezer, and then the fridge all stopped working within a week. Took 4 repair trips replacing parts and 5 weeks later to determine it was unrepairable. Really!!! 4.5 years old! That is totally ridiculous and unacceptable for a refrigerator. Luckily for us, the sealing system warranty of 5 years was still in play and we were given a credit to purchase a new refrigerator; we got an LG and hope that will last a while longer; but who really knows since no one cares about quality control anymore. On a side note about Samsung appliances... we purchased a Samsung Dishwasher about 2 years after the refrigerator; we thought we would keep the same brand names. The dishwasher ran once and then stopped working. Had them bring a new one out to replace it. The new one had to have the circuit board replaced 3 times and after 1.5 years, we finally gave up; threw the dishwasher down the back hill and purchased a Bosch. So bottom line.... Samsung does not know how to make kitchen appliances and we will never, never, never buy another Samsung appliances again!!!

We have been eagerly waiting for our new fridge as this is a big purchase and our existing one is starting to show sign of breaking down. Maybe our expectation is high given this is a SAMSUNG brand refrigerator and we expect it works. However, we are completely disappointed that the fridge just don't work. After it was delivered yesterday by bestbuy, we were told to wait 5-6 hours for it to cool down. As of right now (after 24 hours), the normal fridge is >70F and the freezer is 64F. We made the call to bestbuy geeksquad per what they put on their receipt, and they don't have a technician until 6 DAYS later!!! I won't be that upset if it is a TV, but we are talking refrigerator here How about who pay for my foods that will gone bad since it is NOT cold? If it is 6 days, it might as well wait a month because that doesn't make a different to the consumer. Remember, I have to pay the extra $$ to have the fridge installed and if it doesn't work, I'll expect the technician will be available at least by the next day to make sure it works. On top of that, the BestBuy rep said the other way is to route over to Samsung department since this is still factory warranty and see whether they have technician that is available earlier. I'm shocked to find out that the call is then forwarded to the Samsung toll free and I have to start all over again. What s service, BESTBUY GeekSquad!!! You just send your trouble to another place, wash your hand and walk away!! I have been a big fans of BESTBUY for many years, but given all these "WORST EVER" experience, you have lost me as a loyal customer. Not only product doesn't work, service is the worst ever!!!!

I wish I had done more research before buying this fridge. It was expensive and broke just days after the one year warranty expired. First the ice maker went. It took a long time to get the part. After looking online many others complained of the same issue. When the repair company got the part in from Samsung to fix the ice maker..It was broken as well! They had to reorder it yet again. The tech who installed the part told us that he has seen the ice maker break in every Samsung fridge he's ever worked on. We had ice for a good month before I started hearing a loud noise coming from the fridge. I opened the fridge and the ice maker started pouring water out everywhere. This was Christmas week. The temperature display was blinking and it was hot in the fridge. We lost all if our food. We called Samsung and they have been giving us the run around for at least 2 weeks now. We are living with no fridge and it's been a real pain. If I could throw this piece of junk out right now I would. I am so mad at myself for not being more vigilant when it comes down to doing my research before buying this thing. Please if you read this do your homework and buy and extended warranty before purchasing an expensive appliance. Best buy has not helped one bit. I have purchased many appliances and other products from them over the years and this is the first time I've had a problem. AVOID this model and possibly the brand. I would give this a zero if that was an option.

If possible I would rate this Samsung refrigerator -10 stars: I purchased this Samsung in FEB 2019 from Best Buy and it takes top prize for being the worst major appliance I’ve ever purchased! This unit completely stopped working April 25. It lasted only a few months. Soon after installation the unit began making loud compressor type noises and it only got louder as days/weeks went by. At times the loud racket would last for approximately 35 minutes but, soon evolved to a steady 2+ hours before shutting off! It was driving me insane. Nothing I did (temp changes, unit location shift, etc.) made any difference. Two days before it died I had a premonition that this unit was on its last legs so I purchased a small 5 cu ft chest freezer. This saved the day as I was able to save all my frozen foods from spoiling a few days later. I was duped by the Samsung name but, never again. They should get out of the major appliance business and stick to cellphones. I will never, ever spend my money on any Samsung appliance. Calling it junk would be a compliment.

    Buyer Be Aware

    Posted
    Frustrated

Please be aware of a problem that most Samsung products suffer from. Our three door refrigerator, that is only five years old, had one of its door handles break while trying to open it. The part, which holds the pin that holds the door handle, broke. The plastic part IS NOT REPLACEABLE. That means that if this part breaks, you have to buy another complete door. There is nothing wrong with the door other than this weak plastic part. The plastic part that failed probably costs a buck or two to make and maybe twelve dollars in a store, if it was sold, now costed us $300. It seems that during design and assembly, SAMSUNG has placed a PLASTIC part that is not repairable and the customer is responsible for their mistake. Custom services' response was that there was nothing they could do because my refrigerator was not under warranty. Since my fridge is five years old, a warranty wouldn't have helped anyway. Your concern should be that SAMSUNG's products have these parts in them. If your spending your hard earned money on SAMSUNG products, your depending on the SAMSUNG name and reputation to help its customers out when one of their products has failed. This is a design flaw by SAMSUNG. SAMSUNG should take responsibility for their mistakes.

Don’t buy a Samsung Appliance! I have had the expensive French door fridge for less than 2 years and we have had three service calls. All for different issues. Now at the third time, I have to pay a $200 service call to have the icemaker fixed. The service center they assigned me to expects me to wait around all day until they decide to show up. I was on the phone for an hour this morning trying to get a valid phone number from Samsung reps (took three) to confirm the service window. At 10 am they finally called me to say they would arrive between 4 and 5 that afternoon. What!! I am paying you $200 and you will wait until 10 am to call me to say you will be there over 6 hours later. I am sorry but I work and took the morning off for this service call. I have to be at work by noon or there is no money for a service call. Now I am back to square one. I have waited 5 days for the service call and now I am waiting 48 business hours (which since it is Friday) will be Tuesday before I hear from someone to reschedule this service visit. Again- Don’t buy a Samsung appliance!

Do not purchase this refrigerator. For the first 2 years everything was fine. Water started to come from the ice dispenser. Initially, this was just a minor annoyance, but then the problem increased to the ice maker freezing up and needing to be defrosted every 3-4 weeks. Shortly after, fan started making loud noise and fridge froze solid. Whole thing would need to be unplugged to defrost. Samsung authorized repairman indicated this was a known problem for Samsung and suggested contacting the company considering overall age of the fridge. Several Samsung representative basically said the same thing-Out of warranty, not our problem. Repairman replaced ice maker and thermostat, but said there is no guarantee the problem is fixed. Sure enough, 6 weeks later same problem is happening. 3 minutes of research on the internet will show the high number of people who have this same problem.

We bought this fridge in 2015. It actually worked very well, until earlier this year. Then everything went kaput. The temperature regulator went out, which caused the fan to freeze over. When the technician came out he told us that Samsung pushed out a "technical bulletin" requiring Samsung service technicians to REPLACE, not repair ice makers. The repair bill: $1700. For a fridge that Best Buy is currently selling new for $1800. Calls with Samsung proved entirely fruitless. As a longtime Samsung customer, I'm done. Off to buy another fridge, and won't be replacing any of the Samsung products in my home with new ones. Fridges should be expected to last more than 4 years, and shouldn't cost the cost of a new fridge to repair them. Wholly disappointed with Samsung, its customer service, and its product.

I have the same ice maker issues as many other, it freezes up and will not work. there is a class action lawsuit involving this and other samsung models, google it. i am on customer service chat now and they claim it has been fixed on models made after Sep '17 mine was made in Nov' 17 and it still has the same problem and the remedy in the owner's manual does not work. this is the 3rd time it has frozen over and i spent too much money on this fridge to have it rendered useless after 2-3 weeks! the photo i have attached is a picture of how the ice maker freezes up

    Won't fit

Despite carefully measuring the opening in the cabinets and double-checking the dimensions of the unit, this device won't fit. After inspection, it is clear that both sides are horribly bowed. Placing a four foot level along either side verifies that they are simply rippled all the way up and down. There is at least 1/2 inch extra on each side of the unit. In addition, the specified measurement (35 3/4") is accurate across the top of the unit; however, the bottom has plastic vent covers that stick out on either side. The opening in my cabinets is 36 1/4" by 70", which I thought was a standard size since so many refrigerators advertise fit "36 inch" opening. Don't believe it! After searching on this problem online, it appears that bowed sides is not that uncommon. If a manufacturer is going to provide dimensions, then they should be a maximum size and not a nominal dimension, especially if it is going into a defined opening like cabinets. I'm going to have to go down a size and pay more on top of it to make sure that a unit fits.

We purchased this unit in December 2014. A couple months ago the fan started making noise. It gets really loud, like an RC plane landing in the kitchen. A little research let us know it was likely icing in the back panel. So many people with this issue in various models yet Samsung keeps using this design and Best Buy keeps selling them. Everyone is losing money but Samsung and their authorized repair techs! Third visit from the techs tomorrow for the same issue. Our old Whirlpool lived almost 15 years. We went with Samsung this time because our other appliances were Samsung and we wanted them all to match. Well, the microwave lasted 1 year before the panel went out. Now this. We're done! TVs and phones have been great but they need to stay in their lane -- and OUT of the kitchen!!
