    Never Again...

I read the reviews on this refrigerator and thought it sounded like a good one... I had wanted a French-style one for a long time and spent a significant amount of time researching my options. I purchased it in November of 2012. The FIRST disappointing feature is the ice maker. There is no bucket or bin to collect the ice - all you get is what can fit in the distribution channel. Fill a small ice bucket? You are out of ice. Other reviewers did mention the fact that when the ice falls into the channel it makes a loud noise, and that is because it is never falling on other ice cubes - it always hits the hard plastic 'screw' that is used to move the ice through the dispenser. At least once a month, the 'mouth' of the dispenser gets clogged with ice cubes / bits and has to be cleared with the door open. (make sure you have someone else there to catch the ice bits as it clears!) And don't make the mistake of using the 'crushed' ice option - you will never get all whole ice cubes again. The second disappointing feature? Poorly manufactured. Less than 3 years after purchasing this fridge, I am having to spend $500 to have the entire filter mechanism replaced. AND I had to call around to find a repair shop that will even work on Samsung's, because my regular appliance repairman doesn't work on Samsung because "the parts are hard to get." If I were made of money I'd give this sucker away and replace it, but alas I am stuck with it now. I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend this fridge or any other Samsung appliance to my friends.

Loud, freezer drwr, ice splinters, install'd wrong

I returned this refrigerator for the following reasons and then bought another Samsung model that I love. LOUD: So loud I went to a friend's to listen to her Samsung (different model) which was guiet. Repair person came and said it was normal. It wasn't. We could hear it over the TV. It was very distracting and bothersome. FREEZER DRAWER: Repair person advised me to watch the freezer drawer on this model because it is sensitive to how you close it. You must pull from the center of the handle or it gets off track. I never noticed it was off track but he pointed out that there was frost on my foods which meant the seal was not tight. The drawer was also not opening all the way. You have to pull the drawer out from the center, then tug and it will readjust. I had to do this almost every time. DELI DRAWER: My family found it cumbersome to open both doors to get to the deli drawer. We ended up putting deli meats and cheeses in the main part and not using the deli drawer. ICE MAKER: Started out fine. Didn't mind smaller cubes but eventually it splintered the cubes which went all over the floor despite how close I put the glass to the dispenser. INSTALLED WRONG: The installers installed it wrong and the water line leaked into the wall for the three weeks we had the refrigerator. Fortunately it leaked into the garage and not into my kitchen. Best Buy is taking care of it without any problem. Good thing I returned it. I wouldn't have know for a while. THE GOOD: It kept fruit fresh much longer. It was easy to see everything and organize. DESPITE THIS, I then purchased another SAMSUNG from Lowes (RF28HMEDBSR) because I have had luck with other Samsung products. This new one has the extra deli drawer which I didn't want at first, but after the first fridge experience, our family LOVES it beyond compare. It is very quiet too. I am in love with it. Unfortunately the new one came dented. Waiting on a replacement. RETURN POLICIES: Home Depot only offered 72 hour return policy which would have been a real problem considering the issues we had. Best Buy was difficult to get a hold of anyone, and they only offer 15 day return policy unless you are an elite member (then it is 30 days). I couldn't get a delivery date with Best Buy for two weeks. Lowes offered fast delivery and 30 day return policy. Sears warranties were too expensive. New refrigerators in general are louder because they are energy efficient and cycle less freon through more frequently. This model Samsung was much too loud. I would return it for that reason alone. It was a leap of faith to purchase another Samsung, but I absolutely love the new one.

Known Electronic Problems, Is Samsung unethical?

I've bought two of these refrigerators. I became aware of the electronic issues in reviews when I bought the first one. I figured it was bad luck for those customers and it wouldn't happen to me. I had that fridge for 7 months with ZERO issues before I left it with the house I sold. I loved that fridge so I bought a second one with my new house. From the day it delivered it displayed all the electronic issues that are well documented online so I won't elaborate here but the typical sporadic switching from water to ice mode, electronic beeping, temperature settings change up and down, etc. I talked to Samsung and here's what I was told. There is a known design defect which allows moisture to condense on the main circuit board. Because the circuit board is not conformal coated at the factor to protect the electronics from moisture the circuit board then sporadically shorts out. This is why there are all these reviews about the fridge with electronic problems and moisture leaks. What I've discovered from Samsung is that they know the issue exists and have chosen not to recall the product. Instead they made a decision to have the customer identify which units malfunction and if in warranty Samsung will fix it by sending a repairman to refurbish the fridge. If the fridge is out of warranty you are stuck paying to correct Samsung's design problem. The appliance division at Samsung needs to review their practices I feel their practices are unethical. With the cost of this appliance it is a poor business practice to push their problems onto their customers which forces them to waste their time and money researching and correcting this problem. Search this fridge and Samsung exploding washing machine on YouTube and you'll see how the appliance division at Samsung works. I wouldn't buy again and strongly caution you to avoid Samsung Appliances. On a positive note, Best Buy took the refrigerator back within their normal returns period so that was awesome. I did have a video of the board shorting out but I don't have a way of uploading it here.

    I'll never buy another Samsung

This is the 2nd Samsung fridge we've owned and I will NEVER buy one again. The first fridge was a side-by-side that we bought in late 2010. Within 6 months, the ice maker started giving us major problems. It was repaired half a dozen times over the course of about a year before Samsung finally paid us out for the fridge. We went and bought a GE and had zero problems for the 2 years we owned it. Fast forward to 2014-15. We moved and sold the GE. Bought a new house a year later and needed a new fridge. Went to BB and the salesman assured me that Samsung had addressed the ice maker and compressor issues that they'd had back when we bought our first one. Against my better judgement, I decided to give Samsung another try. I bought the 5-year warranty just in case. I'm glad I did. Once again, within 6 months, the ice maker went out and the electronic controls started to freeze up. We had the mother board and electronic display replaced. The ice maker was replaced and serviced 3 times in the span of 3-4 months. Once again, Samsung deemed the fridge irreperable and gave us authorization to exchange it in store. Thankfully, I got a store credit, so I'm not obligated to get another Samsung. Bottom line: Fooled twice with Samsung refrigerators. I won't fall for it again. It's a shame because the Samsung designs are exactly what we need for our family of 6: lots of cubic feet, big freezer, and a BIG ice maker. We're major ice consumers and most of the French door refrigerators have tiny ice bins. The great design is the only reason I didn't give the fridge a one-star rating.

Icemaker ok, dispensor is the problem

The day after our new Samsung Fridge was delivered and set up, we realized the icemaker makes plenty of ice, but it is slow to dispense. Also, there is no place for drips from the water and melted ice to collect. There is no drain tray to collect water. If you do not keep a dry towel underneath, water will run down the front of the door! Then, 10 months later, the icemaker broke. It was fixed under the Samsung warranty. Now 6 months later, our ice comes out as shave ice and continuously gets jammed up in the dispenser opening. We have to reach in and knock the ice out with our finger or it will melt and make a big mess.

    It's the small things...

After 14 months of ownership and three Samsung repairmen visits, I reluctantly give two stars...after spending nearly two grand on this the ice dispenser in the top door constantly leaks (the ice "chips" get stuck in the closure and leak down over the front), the ice is slow to replenish (good thing I got the one with the ice maker in the bottoms drawer), compressor growls when running (rep said this is "normal"), shelves are just at awkward heights (I know they are adjustable but still), and now it makes random noises all day like the noise you here right before the ice drops in the tray, and I have the refrig/freezer as cold as they can go (34degF and -8degF) and the frig stays at 40-42 degF according to multiple thermometers. For the price, the reputation of Samsung and their service department, and the available technology, this refrigerator was a huge disappointment. I should have stuck with Kenmore. I do like the overall look, the bright lights, amount of storage.

The Good - The fridge is beautiful and spacious, it has a ton of room and I have to say the people at best buy were amazing at every step of this journey. Big Big thanks to them The Bad - The first one was delivered and it didn't cool, something about a cracked compressor circuit. Of course all of our food sat out for days and was ruined, Best Buys was super quick to get us a replacement one and it works great except the Ice and water buttons are faulty and it jumps back and forth between the different settings at random beeping as it goes. sometimes it goes for a few hours with out jumping other times it sounds like the old video game "pong". we will call in for service but as of right now its two for two. not what we were hoping for.

    Good Appliance- TERRIBLE ICE MAKER

We've had this refrigerator for 4 years now. Overall we are really pleased. No electrical issues, no rust, just awful ice maker. Evern when it was good, we would run out. I was worried about that when we went to buy and it, but never knew how bad it actually was. We've had it serviced almost 5 times now. After about the first 18 months the ice maker would freeze up and stop making ice. Geek Squad has replaced every single piece inside the ice maker possible. Here we are 4 years later and it's pitiful to use my own hairdryer to melt away the freeze, every month, so that we can have ice. NEVER AGAIN will I buy an ice maker in the refrigerator portion of the unit.

Just like many of the other owners of this fridge, I feel that the noise is excessive. I used to own a LG and since that died on me I thought I would try a Samsung. After reading multiple reviews on all the different types available, it is hard to tell which one will have the least problems. I do not understand why after a 100 years of the home refrigerator being invented we still have problems with these things. The freezer door is easy to open, but the top drawer does not come forward all the way. The metal on the front is not magnetic, this may be a negative or positive for you. For the amount of money this fridge costs, it should have better sound dampening. At least it keeps my food cold for now.

    Refrigerator Good, Ice Maker BAAD

The Ice Maker locks up a lot (5 times in the first 2 weeks;) a thick layer of Ice forms on the underside of the ice bucket jamming it in place. The ice in the bucket freezes solid so you have to thaw out the unit to pull the ice bucket out or even have it dispense any ice. This is due to either a design flaw or the Geek Squad not properly installing the unit. We have received no satisfactory solution, only double-talk; neither from Samsung nor Best Buy. Some of the storage areas in the doors are too small to hold anything larger than a small tube of toothpaste. Cannot recommend this model until after somebody says the faults have been addressed.

I wished I did a little more research before buying but there's a huge design flaw with the icemakers with french door designs. Icemakers will work for maybe a few months before completely freezing over due to the design flaw. Only way to fix it is to somehow chip away at the build up or melt the ice somehow. A quick google search should point you to all the issues that have already been reported! You'ved been warned!

Going to a French door style from a side by side takes some getting used to. It is an excellent fridge with great features. If I was just reviewing the fridge it would get 5 stars. However, the initial fridge did not work and we lost a lot of food. The customer call in number and service were major failures. Best Buy can do better. The delivery and the nightmare that ensued were logged in customer feedback.

The installers were great, they put the refrigerator in place with no incident - no contact with anything. When they removed the wrap, there were 2 dings on the door - probably from the factory. Took 4 calls to geek squad before I got someone helpful. They're coming to replace the damaged door. I guess I expected better from Samsung and I hope that the only issue I have with it

It's okay. I don't expect it to last though, but time will tell. BB had to replace the first 2 due to damage, but all 3 had a loose right side door handle. The water squirts away from you for some reason, so large cups are hard to use. The water tray is the worst design ever.

When my new refrigerator was installed, the plastic hose was inadvertantly broken at the ferule fitting, and the break was not apparent until days later when the slow leak of water damaged sheetrock and flooring. This is a reminder to check on this type of thing when installing a new refrigerator.

Everything about this fridge is great... everything except the ice smells like a plastic band-aid. I've dumped a full load of ice from the maker 5 times and still, the ice stinks. Water from the door is fine, good even, but the ice smells like a newly opened plastic band-aid.

My previous refridgerator was an LG and I loved it. The only reason I do not have it anymore, is that we relocated and could not bring it with us. I went with the Samsung, because I thought it would be comparable. The quality is not what I hoped. I would go back to LG if possible.
