We loved our Samsung Refrigerator UNTIL we got the indicator that it was time to change the $50. water filer! and Ice production went way down to almost a stop.
I purchased a new filter started reading the instructions and it said I had to turn off the water supply behind the refrigerator! well I waited till it wasn't making ice because I'm Disabled and the thought of having to pull the 392.4 pound refrigerator forward to turn off the water every 6 mo or less not to mention possibly rip our flooring , AND spending $50 for a new filter was not a happy thought.
Please don't misunderstand we Love our refrigerator. So I thought maybe the manual was mis-written so I went to Samsung website and they had a support chat option even at 1:25am est in the morning WOW I am impressed! Then...
I'm told well if I don't want to pull the Refrigerator out or I can't that I could just turn off the water for the whole house. since it could take 30 min! just to change a filter REALLY?
I have the Best Buy warranty on our Refrigerator but I doubt that it covers coming out to change the filter every 6 months or 300 gallons which ever comes first. ( I wish I knew this before I purchased this unit) Consumer Reports should have added this to their article .
So the Tech support person sends me a link on how to do this AND here is the first step
1. Verify the water line connected to the refrigerator is turned off at the house's water supply valve.
here is what i was told by the tech support person
Rafi M: Samsung recommends to turn off the water line while changing the filter to avoid the issues further.
Rafi M: As it takes not more than half an hour to change the water filer you can turn off the water supply.
Rafi M: However I will help you with the instructions to change the water filter
oh wait Rafi @ support says my unit is in warranty and when I asked if that meant that they were going to come our for free to change my filter he said no. So unless you can move a 392.4 Pound Refrigerator or you can easily get to the whole house shut off water valve and do this 2 times a year you might want to choose something other than samsung, EVEN though its a wonderful unit. Well a last min thought. Maybe you could get a valve to have next to the refrigerator by having the installer going from the water supply to your counter and then to back of the refrigerator so when ever you need to change the filter it would be easier! shesh...

Great Fridge - Ice Maker issues

First off, love the fridge, But the water dispenser and Ice Maker is an issue. There's a lawsuit pending against all Samsung Freezers with French doors (search Google for it...!!) It's big and meets my family needs. I put my negative points below:
1) It has a small area under the water dispenser to collect left over drops, and is too small.
2) After a year or 2, you will notice the Ice Maker freezes up and stops dispensing ice. Fine if you don't need ice, or don't mind defrosting, or just remove the ice bucket and wait for it to "thaw out"...
3) Samsung has a lawsuit pending against them that dates back to 2015 when customer complaints starting coming in about their ice makers. I was advised about that by my BB Service technician (I took out a 5 year repair plan thank goodness!!)
4) The Filters can be expensive. There are aftermarket versions available, but I only use Samsung filters. They are easy to install, it just takes a while to get 2 - 3 gallons of water through them when you first change them out (recommended by Samsung).
If not for the Ice maker, this would have been a 5 star. If it breaks again, it would be a 3 star. Because of the ice maker, I would not buy this again as we go through a lot of iced drinks. If I'd known about the Law Suit - I would not have considered it at all.

I had my kitchen remodeled three years ago and bought all Samsung appliances. Of the four items purchased, microwave, range, dishwasher and refrigerator, all but the dishwasher have needed repair. I love the layout of the refrigerator, but the ice maker should not stop working after only three years of light use. The microwave stopped working almost immediately after being installed and needed multiple parts replaced. The range heating element in the oven and the convection fan stopped working after about two and a half years. Thank goodness I have a home warranty as none of these repairs were covered by Samsung. As I can afford I will start replacing the appliances with a different, more reliable brand.

I have had this fridge/freezer for 3 years now and have had nothing but problems with the ice maker. I’ve had to take of a total of 4 days minimum from work to be here for the techs to come out and fix it, yet it continues to drip water (melted ice) through the hatch door and the ice is melted when it comes out. I’m so frustrated. Otherwise, I love the fridge but can’t deal with this ice maker anymore. Samsung just keeps sending out techs who keep replacing the same thing. Do better, Samsung.

I really wanted to like this fridge, after all, it holds a lot of groceries and with teenagers in the house, It's exactly what we needed. Unfortunately the ice maker is horribly designed. We have had multiple service calls to fix it and the techs would always "guarantee it'll work now." They were wrong. The fridge is three years old and today my ice maker completely quick making ice. It just makes this constant ticking sound that I am over hearing. Even better, my warranty expired last week. I've asked about the lemon law on the warranty and they will not guarantee it since it was the ice maker. (so basically the warranty was a waste) I love Samsung tvs, they are the only ones I will buy. I will NEVER purchase another Samsung appliance. Ever.

Our ice maker stopped working within the first year of purchase. It miraculously started working again 4 years later but now makes a LOUD humming sound. There is a class action law suit against Samsung regarding their refrigerators. Please do your research!!!
