The TV is wonderful with everything I expected from Samsung. The digital tuner is what I wanted most using outdoor antennas. Looks like we are watching in 3D with so much contrast, it is much higher than I imagined. The minature remote with hardly any buttons at all is a drawback. Good thing I have 4 other Samsung remotes, plus a Harmony 700 to use. If not, it takes so many button pushes that can be accomplished with a better remote. Not sure what Samsung was thinking doing this, maybe if all you did was stream Netflix, it would be fine. If you have 4 other devices hooked into your system, then you need access to these also. Icluding pic of remote, not TV.

Great 4K Panel For My Needs

I'm using this Samsung 4K - 40" to replace a 32 inch 1080p Samsung I use for small business graphics and web site work, plus accounting and point of sale system maintenance. This 40 inch 4K is a huge improvement for my purposes. Colors, brightness and contrast are awesome. It is the perfect size to show two full web pages side by side for various system maintenance tasks. The amt of video I've watched on it (Netflix mostly) so far is minimal, but the quality is exceptional with native 1080p content. Sound is better than most on board speakers I've heard, with plenty of volume range. Of course, adding amplification and external speakers would probably be desired for home theater or gaming setups, however stock sound is sufficient for most other application. The 2K-4K upscaling engine works well to improve sharpness and resolution of 2K content. Haven't seen native 4K content on it yet, but have to assume it will be at least minimally sharper with more dynamic range. I do not game (wish I had the time) on this panel, but bought it after reading reviews from others, many who're using it primarily for gaming and say it is great (with caveats of course) for that purpose as well (read those reviews for specifics). I bought it on sale and for my purposes, it'd be very tough to beat the value of this puppy for the price.. Am very satisfied. Side note: This is my 2nd of 3 - 4K LED screens purchased at BB since Thanksgiving '16, after owning only 1080p's prior. The other two - 4K screens are a Hisense 55" with HDR 10 compatibility and a Hisense 50" 4K w/out HDR compatibility. I believe this Samsung 40" does have low end HDR functionality also. Although the higher end 4K's than these have more advanced HDR and picture technology, they start at twice the price. The picture quality of these 3 low end 4Ks is worlds above any good quality 1080p LED screen. The difference between these and higher end 4K's is minor in comparison. Thus, I won't be considering a new 1080p panel ever again, while these great value 4K's regularly go on sale at Best Buy for just a few dollars more than their 1080p counterparts ;-).

As a Computer Monitor, Smart TV, Remote & SoundOut

I'm happy with purchase and use this TV as a computer monitor. My present video card does not support 4K and so it's a 1920 x 1080 monitor. It was my intention to use a 4K TV so as to fit more into the 42" panel. The Samung is a companion to a Sony TV 42" Brav1a in a dual monitor setup. I calibrated the Sony for photo editing and when screen matching the Sony and the Samsung, I find the newer Samsung has more contrast and the blacks had to be cut back some to the point they blacks appear grayer. Overall pleased with the purchase. As for the Smart TV feature, I've used it for watching some free DramaFever TV shows. The English subtitles do get lost and we have to pause to let it refresh. Could be a limitation caused by the the speed of my 3 mps internet download. After working about a month the DramaFever app has stopped working and even after uninstalling and reinstalling twice, it fails to load anything, taking a long time going nowhere. All the other Apps (ABC, Netflix, YouTube, etc) are fine. I don't have a subscription to any movies so can't rate viewing paid-for shows. Remote control. It's a clever use of push, pull and squeeze the long switch. I do like the simplicity of the remote. It's a clean look and and keeps sliding off my table. Gladly it came with the battery inserted because I haven't figured out how to open the battery compartment. : ) Sound. TV sound is decent. There is no head phone jack. I will have to get an optical cable and an analog converter to output the sound. Haven't tried that yet. Samsung has several TVs in this 42" range. The TVs even have similar model numbers and trying to compare them is like nit picking, but the nit piking nuances may be important to others. I got this based on price and 42" size during the Black Friday sales this past November 2016.

The price seemed right and why get a monitor, when a 4k TV would be just as good? Very nice picture, but I should have checked to make sure it had a split screen. The next day I saw a bigger 4k for almost $100 less.

Like a prior reviewer, I'm using this primarily as a PC monitor, though I've also used the Netflix app. I'm also running it at 4K/60/4:4:4 via HDMI; no settings adjustments were required to attain this through the TV itself, but only Nvidia Control Panel (by default, it runs at 4K/30/4:2:2, I believe). So far, it's been absolutely perfect, in this function. No dead or stuck pixels (at least that I've noticed), no visual or input lag that I've noticed, and no backlight issues (bleeding, spots, etc.) that I've noticed. Color, brightness, etc. are all perfect, basically out-of-the-box (though I did increase backlight to maximum), and very few adjustments are required to make this look pristine. The stand is functional, but, of course, it isn't adjustable like a monitor's (aftermarket VESA desk mounts are available--this is my next step). Also, there's no "auto-detect" as with a monitor, so you'll need to manually power it up and down each time you use it (small price to pay for such real estate at such a low price, in my opinion). The only issue I've encountered while gaming at 4K is that a handful of older games (I've tested around a hundred, so far) seem to want to run at 24 Hz, if at 3840 * 2160; if you encounter this issue, simply create a custom resolution of 3838 * 2159 @ 60 Hz, then disable scaling (to keep it pixel-perfect); they'll then run at 60 fps, assuming that you have the hardware (I'm using two GTX 970s, which are surprisingly powerful enough for most of my collection at 4K/60/maxed [some with additional SSAA, etc.]). (Let me tell you this: there is absolutely no going back to 1080p gaming after seeing this, my friends.) :) Else, the included Netflix app indeed supports Ultra HD (costs $2 more/month, and content is extremely limited, but you're future-proofed) (haven't tested the others apps yet). Contrary to another reviewer, there is indeed an internet browser (I'll attach a picture as evidence.) Basically, what you're getting here are four 20" 1080p panels (without bezels in between them), so as you might imagine, as productivity goes, it's incredibly helpful (e.g. four full-size 1080p browser windows open at once). I've not tested other 4K televisions as monitors, but this one, so far, is flawless. Seating distance note: the proper seating distance for a 40" 4K is 2'11", give or take, for someone with 20/20 vision; coincidentally, that's precisely mine, and as expected, it's just the point where pixelation becomes slightly visible if I move any closer. (So, at my seating distance, 40" is perfect.) If you're considering a 28" 4K monitor (which go for around $300, at cheapest [unless Korean]), rethink that decision and give this a chance--you won't regret it. Any questions, feel free to ask--I'll do my best to respond. Recommendation: buy it, and buy it while it's $329! p.s. you won't need a "special" HDMI cable. Any halfway modern HDMI cable will support 4K/60/4:4:4.

    Perfect for Xbox One S

After reviewing and searching for the perfect monitor for my pc and console gaming setup, I had no luck so I decided to just go with this Samsung 40' as my display. Couldn't be happier with the decision! I went from a 27' 1080p monitor to a 32' 4K monitor and now this, honestly in my opinion don't let anyone deter you away from using a tv as a computer monitor. It does take some getting used to being realitively large but I found sitting about three to four feet away, you can look passed that. This thing delivers the best picture I've ever seen to date. Of course any good review deserves a pros and cons. Pros: Best price you can find for an entry level 4K UHD display. Perfect for my Xbox One S as it "DOES" support all the features needed to get the most out of the next gen technology available on the system. Suports Hdmi 2.0 with hdcp 2.2 content protection, which most pc monitors "DO NOT". Not having hdcp 2.2 restricts the UHD and 4K streaming capabilities of the Xbox one S, and not having an Hdmi 2.0 connection would restrict the refresh rate to 30hz. Easy setup with the smart interface, I advise to go into the options, update the tv's software, and reset before adjusting the picture settings. I was having trouble with the auto diming backlight technology until I did this. Fixed it right away. The "Dark Titan" finish to the tv looks absolutely stunning and the thin bezel makes the deep blacks blend even more! Of course the picture quality is amazing right out of the box, but if you truly want the perfect picture it requires calibration. I found game mode to be most benificial for me. Make sure to enable the UHD setting on hdmi 1 for you Xbox to be able to display true 10 bit color, which unlike some reviews say, this tv "IS" more than capable of. Cons: The glossy screen can glare, but only in certain lighting and only during a pitch black or mostly black screen. It has not bothered me much due to the position and location of my tv. Others might have a problem with this in a well lit room. If you plan on using this tv as a computer monitor, be aware to get the true 4K 10bit picture at 60hz you're going to need a Display port to hdmi 2.0 converter. If your graphics card is able to output hdmi 2.0 then all you would need is another high speed hdmi cable. This "DOES NOT" have an Aux output for analog audio, only digital. This issue can also be solved with a digital to analog audio converter, and its an inexpensive solution. Overall the images I've seen on this television has ligitmitely taken my breath away. It up-converts everything displayed and makes it look brand new. Stil have not tested an Ultra hd movie but blu rays even look upconverted. Games like Forza Horizon 3 and Battlefield 1 really take advantage of the UHD feature and look stunning, like nothing I've seen before even on a pc gaming rig. Hope this review helps and have a good one!

This is one of the cheaper (Black Friday) Samsung 4K TV's on the market. But, this does NOT mean it isn't quality. There are many positives and a couple of negatives I will discuss. Positives: Crystal clear display. Truly a gorgeous display to watch. Standard definition (SD) is up converted to a much higher resolution (we all have some DVD's that we still watch from time to time!). 1080p, when up converted, almost looks as good as any 2K content available (it isn't 4K quality, but it does look a lot better than 1080p). Bright. And I mean BRIGHT! The screen can get almost painfully bright. I really can't do this TV justice on how truly bright and vivid this display can get. It's nice to have! Blacks. While the screen is super bright for whites and light colors, the blacks are BLACK! And they are pure black even if right up (butting up to) super bright whites. The contrast between the two is striking. And it does this with all colors. Colors. The color reproduction is shockingly accurate. I have an ASUS 32" 4K Monitor [PA328Q], which is known for having accurate colors. And this Samsung TV is really close. I mean, almost sickenly close (the Asus monitor cost over $900, the Samsung TV was under $300). Well done Samsung! Options and extras. This truly is a smart tv! Not only do you get the vast majority of video services on the TV, you get so much more. And it is a snap to cast movies, songs & pics from an Android device to this TV. My Pixel XL has no issues streaming to this TV. Neither does my Nexus 9 or my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, which really shouldn't be a big surprise there! Cost (Price). You get A LOT of TV for the price. My GF has the Samsung 65" Curved 4K TV [UE65KS9500], which is a better TV. But, it isn't 8 1/2 times better (her TV cost almost 8 1/2 what this TV did). And even though her picture quality is better, it isn't by a whole lot. The biggest difference is with the HDR (See the cons for more on this). So, for the price of this TV, I almost consider it a steal. I only wish I had bought a couple more for other rooms. Sound. If, for some strange reason, you won't be using a quality receiver with this TV and just want to use the built in speaker, you are in for a pleasant surprise. They actually sound pretty good. Actually quite good for TV speakers. I am using an Onkyo receiver (with Dolby Atmos and Atmos speakers), and I would highly recommend it. Easy Set-up. The setup was extremely easy. Even attaching it to the wall on the wall mount took next to no time. The only issue here was the screws for mounting this TV and bigger than my LG 40" TV this TV replaced. From unboxing to watching content on this TV took about 10 minutes. XBOX One S. This TV works perfectly with the XBOX One S, giving access to a 4K Blu Ray player and a ton of 4K streaming content. And yes, Netflix 4K does work with the XBOX One S (But not from a PC, just a heads up if you want to stream 4K to your PC and watch on this TV, Netflix doesn't allow 4K streaming to PC at this moment). Now I realize the XBOX One S isn't a selling point for this Samsung TV, but it does enhance this display, making it all the better! In fact, the XBOX One S is probably the best deal on a 4K media player. It does everything any 4K blu ray player can do, and SO MUCH MORE! CONS: HDR. Lets get this out of the way. The HDR on this set is 8 bit. NOT 10 bit. So, if you wanted to take advantage of the HDR on the XBOX One S, then do not get this TV. Go with the next, slightly higher Samsung UN40KU6300 40-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV. The TV I got (and am reviewing), the Samsung UN40KU6290FXZA 40-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV has 8bit HDR. This is my biggest gripe. As I didn't even know there was an 8bit HDR, I didn't look to see before I bought it. I thought there was HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. Pity, as I would have liked to have this. But, I am not sure I would have paid the extra $100 for the next step up just to get HDR 10. So, in conclusion, I find this TV to be one of the best values currently available. Its easily one of the best 4K TV's today. And for the price, you can't come close with any other TV. The only downside being the 8bit HDR. But, this should not be a game changer, especially if you want a cheaper 4K TV with one of the best color reproducing screens available. This Samsung 4K TV is a must buy and I would highly recommend it to anyone...

Researched online b4 purchasing, my 2 year old Vizio backlight went out suddenly and cost to repair was almost equivalent to a new TV. I knew I would not purchase a Vizio again. Ventured into my local Best Buy, knew fairly well what I wanted and also knew the Samsung TV model similar to this one was only available for shipping and not in stock at store, but I wanted a TV NOW ;) Spoke with Dom a brilliant young man, told him what I wanted, reviews I had read, liked Samsung and 4K, he told me he had one TV left in stock that he felt was exactly what I was looking for, and he was not sure it was still in stock but he went to check, and voila one was in stock!!!! My priorities were great pic, great sound, 4K, I brought it home with the chocolate USB cables recommended and easy to hook up, now one week later I am just impressed with this TV!!!! I though my previous Vizio was decent.....nope....this is quality that has met all my hopes and wishes! Also USB cables do make a difference in picture, I tried a cheaper USB cable I had on hand and then the new chocolate one and 100% the chocolate USB cable created better visual experience. I also bought this TV at a sale price that was impressive. Though TV was not on display at store I trusted Dom and his vast knowledge as well as the 3 days research I did online and reviews I read, I really appreciate all the helpful reviews. I also purchased the Geek Squad 5yr plan as I really don't want to repair or replace a TV again after 2yrs at an unreasonable cost ;) I've never had a TV go out after 2yrs, but read online not uncommon with some Vizio models.... Samsung to the rescue, actually kinda glad the Vizio went out..... Because now I have an ahhhmazing TV with incredible capabilities! Thanks Best Buy and thanks Dom!!!!

I can't believe I got this TV for less than $300. I am upgrading from a 32" 1080p tv for my bedroom, and the difference is massive. Picture quality is best in class, absolutely superb. Bezels are slim, although they could be a little slimmer. The stand is very solid, the TV is reasonably thin enough to mount on a wall, not razor thin nor chunky. I really like the UX for this tv, very smooth and responsive, also really attractive and easy to use. Has great gaming performance, really no issue at all and playing Forza Horizon 3 on 4K is mindblowing, truly. My GTX 1070 handles it well. The remote is pretty nice, I was expecting a cheap remote seeing as this is the KU6290 model and not the KU6300, but no issues here. Overall I really love this TV, it is pretty much perfect for me. This is like a $500 TV easily, for the price it can't be beat, period. Go buy it!!!
