I've always been a Samsung (TV) fan. And this PN43F4500AFXZA 43" plasma HDTV is yet another reason I REMAIN a Samsung fan! I was reluctant to purchase a plasma. But after reading that the plasma technology has a higher refresh rate (Great for watching fast action SPORTS), I thought I would give it a shot. Can't go wrong for under $400! First, I watched a NFL game, and I felt as if I were sitting in the golden seats of Heinz Field WOW! Crisp and clear with smooth action. The depth of color was tremendous (although the reds and oranges do BLOOM somewhat). It took some time to tweak the settings just right, but when I finished, everything looked fantastic. I didn't need a Smart TV because I have several external devices which take care of streaming video and movies etc. Unfortunately, I was forced to eliminate one of those devices because of the LACK OF INPUTS on this TV. But I got over that issue quickly when I found that the built-in MEDIA PLAYER is capable of playing nearly EVERY VIDEO FORMAT that it's presented with!! MKV AVI MP4 even some FLV files ... BONUS!! XBox 360 displays just fine. No signs of burn in whatsoever. The sound is adequate after adjusting the audio equalizer settings for the speakers. Finally, there is one issue why I cannot rate this TV 5's across the board. The WHITES ARE DINGY and GREY. I watch a lot of ice hockey, and the ice surface looks grey and dull. But at this price point, I can't complain too much. If you're looking for a basic (non-SmartTV) the Samsung PN43F4500AFXZA 43" plasma HDTV should easily be considered one of the top seeds in your list!

We think this TV is pretty good. The picture quality is wonderful, as long as we crank the brightness up. The sound is decent, but certain frequencies cause it to emit a buzz. It looks great in our living room, too; not too gaudy but not too minimalist either. Very unassuming, but it surprises you with picture quality. The major problem with this is that it doesn't offer any analog sound outputs. It only has one digital sound output, which basically means you're going to need an adapter to hook up to the majority of speakers out there. Also, the power cord is less than 4 feet, so you'd better have a power strip or 3-prong extension cord easily available. Lastly, the TV has no buttons, which means that if you lose the remote or if the remote batteries run out, you can't use the tv at all. I know they're trying to be fancy and make the tv look better, but having the ability to control the TV without the remote is helpful for those unexpected times when the remote may not be available. Again, good quality but low on features with a complicated setup if you're not going to connect it to cable or an antenna. I would not recommend this for the technically challenged.

The overall picture on this model is great, especially considering that it is 720p vs 1080p. The colors are vibrant and true, no colors get washed out. If you have Blu-Ray or HD cable then this tv really looks great. With a refresh rate of 600hz your sports and action movies will look great and you won't have any blur (as compared to many of the LED TVs in this price range), which was important to me because I love sports and playing video games. As with all older plasma TVs they tend to not do as well in bright rooms because of the possibility of a glare, but we haven't had any problems with it in our family room. The sound is pretty average, but it is what you'd expect from a thin television. I plan on eventually hooking up a surround sound system to it, but it is good enough that I am in no rush to do so. Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I wish there was another HDMI slot, but that is really my only gripe. Great television, especially compared to most of the LEDs of comprable price.

Purchased this TV to replace an older style 42 inch Panasonic 1080p plasma purchased in 2008 which I loved, but it bit the dust. I have the newer VT60 model mounted on my wall in my living room which I absolutely love but needed to replace the 42 inch that I use in my basement during workouts, gaming, etc. I knew it would be a downgrade from what I previously had but I didn't need anything fancy with all the bells and whistles since I only keep a SD fios cable box down there, and primarily watch shows through the Xbox 360 that's down there where I can access Netflix, HBO Go etc. This TV is a steal as far as I'm concerned and it's really not bad at all in picture quality. The only thing that isn't so great is the sound but I connected a Samsung soundbar to it. If connecting a samsung soundbar you can only use a fiber optic cable, it won't work using the audio out nor the HDMI inputs. Since this isn't my primary tv, I'm happy and would highly recommend to anyone looking for cheaper TV that is good quality and name brand!!!

This is an outstanding TV for the price and, in particular, it's a great TV for a small office or man cave type area where there's not going to be a lot of window glare and you'll be watching sports. 600 Hz screen refresh just kills it over LCDs and LEDs, in my opinion. The right TV choice is based on where it will be located and what you want to do with it. There is no "LCD is better than plasma," or, "Plasma is better than LED." They're all pretty good nowadays. I think plasmas get overlooked because they are cheaper, so shoppers think they are not as good as their similarly sized LCD and LED brethren. I actually prefer them for my largest, home theater use TVs. After a few weeks, I'd say this one appears to be an exceptionally strong value too.

This is my second unit that I purchased for my house. I have last years model of this very same tv in my living room and this one is in my bedroom. The picture quality is excellent for a tv of this price range. Just know before you buy it, that if you are wanting to connect a large number of devices to it via HDMI or component video, look for something else. If needing only a couple of inputs is all you need, this is a steal of a tv. When I finish my bonus room, I will be purchasing yet another one, unless I can convince the wife that the 51" version of this tv is what we want! The audio is adequate, but the addition of a sound bar is recommended if you are wanting a little more oomph for movies and music. Fortunately, there is an optical audio out on this tv, so sending a clean digital signal to a sound bar or an audio receiver is possible.

The picture quality compares greatly to our CRT high definition TV, until now this unit was far better than any of the LCDs. Not sure about the newer LEDs. Biggest disadvantage is that the component and composite inputs are shared. Only one input from a device needing these can be connected at a time. We have a VHS player that needs a composite, and a game that requires a component. Also, there is no front inputs, which is nice if a camera is being connected. There is a USB on the side with the two HDMI's. The USB we used witout a hitch to update the firmware. One of the HDMI's we connected to a laptop computer for viewing on demand TV programs, or use the game unit for accessing the internet. Sound quality is average or slightly better. Beware that the unit sould be transported upright and not flat. A well informed store clerk can advise you.

I chose this unit for the wide viewing angle and good motion performance at a value price. It has the glossy screen, which I would not have chosen, but glare doesn't seem to be a problem since the TV is within a cabinet. I read the warnings about ghosting, but I ended up with them anyway. I ran the set for over a week before the HD channels became available on my U-verse receiver. Now my HD picture has the faint image left over from the black bars on each side of the frame. They are very faint but visible on white/light screen shots. So, looks like they are permanent. I saw no mention of this particular situation in the warning literature. A feature that I found useful on my 2001 CRT set was automatic activation of closed captioning whenever the volume was muted. I can't do it with this unit.

Wanted a good quality picture to watch sporting events at work over the winter as I work weekends. Bought the plasma mostly for the 600 Hz refresh rate and the price. Was not disappointed! This picture is beautiful, receiving 1080i broadcasts over-the-air with a rooftop antenna (as is the tv, even when off). The only drawback that keeps me from giving it an excellent rating is the glare on the screen. In a room lit with overhead florescent fixtures it was like looking in a mirror! I have it on a pedestal stand on top of a refrigerator, so I bought the tie-back kit from Samsung and tilted it forward 6 degrees. Problem solved (mostly, lol). Just wish they were available with a matte finish.

Hopefully your television purchase is something you've put some thought into. If you want good picture quality, you go for plasma, if you want to save $20 a year in energy you buy LCD, and if you want good smart features on the higher tier sets, you buy Samsung. I don't know anyone who claims to have bought their TV for the sound quality, so I don't even see why the review asks that. Regardless, this TV is an excellent value and will give you a great picture for the price--it's not full 1080p HD, but with a 43" screen at average viewing distances, the average person won't notice the difference (that and most of your cable provider's HD content is upsampled 720p anyway). It's a little short on inputs, so bring a switcher or receiver with you.

I am a plasma fan, for me LCD, even LED backlit TVs are a poor choice. This plasma gave me what I wanted: Good contrast, accurate color, no blurring on fast images, and no pumping of the screen brightness as occurs on LCD. Also, off axis viewing is excellent, whereas there are few LCD tvs with good off axis viewing. You can see the tv without losing brightness or color from up down, and from the side, perfect for mounting up high, say over a fireplace. LCD tvs really do not compare. Also, this plasma is plenty bright for any normal room situation. I use in my kitchen with a great deal of light, and of course you can adjust the picture for a low light room, or viewing at night.

This TV was easy to set up. Just attach the base with five or six screws, plug the power cord into the TV and to the receptacle. Next pop the batteries into the remote and plug in your inputs. There are two HDMI inputs, a coax input and component inputs. The sound is decent, but if you want great sound there is a digital audio output jack. You will have to buy a digital to analog converter if you want to connect it to an old analog stereo system. The picture can be quickly brightened by hitting the menu button on the remote and choosing the dynamic or movie setting for picture quality.

Our ancient Trinitron died so it was time to get new technology. This Samsung model seemed to fit my needs: larger than the Trinitron but not so large as to require a larger room, great picture, and more than adequate sound. Out of the box, the Samsung worked great. We installed it ourselves, following the instructions. We were up and running in very short order. After a while, we'd notice strong reflections during certain lighting situations, which is a known characteristic of plasma TVs. After changing the mode to "Movie", the reflections are mostly unnoticed.

I bought this TV for my kids so they can play Skylanders. TV was easy to setup, lightweight for a plasma tv, thin for a plasma and picture quality is great since it is a Samsung. 720P resolution may seem like a downfall, but I was able to connect my kids' Xbox 360 using 1080P resolution and the picture is great. Unit is a little dark when you originally set it up, but a few changes to the contrast and brightness took care of that. Another plus is that it has the same remote as my Samsung 60" so my kids know how to navigate the tv. Overall: Great TV for $299.99!

For a TV in the bedroom it, works out quite well for us. The picture is crisp and clear. Great price! The remote is small and the buttons are close together and hard to find in the dark. The buttons do light up, which helps, but adds another step to finding a button. There is no button to scroll thru your favorite channels. This is a big draw back for me! The TV itself, lets you set up favorites, but then does not provide a way to scan thru them. We have contacted Samsung and they have not satisfactorily given us an answer. We have ordered another remote, which has a favorite button, will see how that works.

This TV is pretty good. The picture seems rather dim in "Standard" or "Movie" modes, it is definitely the brightest in "Dynamic" mode. I'd like to be able to stream video files from my computer to this TV but have yet to determine if this TV is capable of hooking up to the internet. It does not have an ethernet port so if it IS capable it would use a wireless USB adaptor and connect to my home wifi network. I bought this to use with a PS3 so i can stream only some files that way, but not all of the ones this TV can handle. All and all I'm enjoying it and am excited it's hanging on my wall!!

Thus far we are very pleased with this television. A short time before we made this purchase we bought an Element from Target and it has severe "Soap Opera Effect". This tv has a much more vivid picture and the SOE is minimal to non-existent. We have been experiencing short "black-outs" (we don't lose power, just the picture) that last for about one second. This might not be attributable to the tv, but we didn't experience them with any other television, so I am confused. Overall, we are very happy with the product.

This TV was selected initially for its size and price. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the plasma design delivers better picture quality and fast motion capability than LED units costing twice the price. Although it is only rated at 720P, in reality few sources, other that blue ray players, actually deliver a higher resolution to your TV anyway. Plasma TVs never look as good in the stores, but when you get them home they produce the best viewing performance for watching sports and movies.

TV appears to have good picture post tweaking and decent sound for a flat screen TV. TV is easy to set up and use. My TV stand was missing 2 screws for stand I contacted Samsung and they were pleasantly useless even after I offered to pay shipping, really not worth taking back for 2 missing screws. In end I ordered screws Samsung parts for $12 and hope they fit. Not worth time and energy fighting over but leaves concern Samsung will not stand behind their products.

I knew before buying this tv, but I wish it had more than 2 HDMI inputs. I had to buy a separate 2to1 HDMI switch in order to connect my Dish receiver, BluRay, and Roku 3. Oh well, the price for this TV was just too good to pass up. The screen is great and the picture is very sharp. The sound isn't great, but I have the TV in my bedroom so I don't need the theater experience before bed or in the morning. This is my first plasma screen tv, and I'm very happy with my purchase.
