Solution for lip sync issues

This sound bar really packs a punch. You get Dolby Atmos for a great price. Once you get this set up properly you won't have any issues.
If you have read about Samsungs higher end sound bars you are probably aware of lip sync issues. Well, it reared its ugly head after I got everything set up. My initial set up was through HDMI Arc from the sound bar to my Samsung Q70R TV. Everything seemed great at first. My apps (Amazon Prime, Netflix, Vudu, Disney Plus, HBO Max, etc) worked flawlessly. It even showed on the sound bar when Dolby Atmos was being pushed out when available content supported it. Same goes for my 4K player ( I do have a an older 4K player that doesn't pass through dolby, so that's my issues not the sound bar. I'll eventually update that). But it worked flawlessly. Even the sound that isn't Atmos is amazing. The wireless rear speakers really make a difference ( you still have to plug into a separate small receiver, but not the woofer or soundbar).
So now here came my lip sync issues. My Xfinity cable box. As soon as put that on, lip sync issues. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't perfectly synced and that was enough to bug me. You could adjust the sync on the soundbar but after 10-15 minutes, it would get out of whack. I found a fix though. I connected my Xfinity cable box directly to my soundbar (Unplugged the cable box HDMI cable from TV and plugged it directly into the other HDMI port on the soundbar, leaving the arc to arc connection from the soundbar to the TV as is). I went to my TV source options and selected soundbar, turned the sound bar source from HDMI arc to HDMI, and boom sound and picture and no lip sync issue. Now you lose Atmos for your cable box this way, but Xfinity doesn't really have atmos content anyway, and this thing still packs a punch. And the bonus is you still get Arc and Dolby sound for everything else (TV apps and 4K player). Because my TV and soundbar are both Samsung, when I switch back and forth from apps to cable box, to 4K player, it switches from Arc to HDMI as needed. I was surprised it would be that intuitive.
I am so happy I found this fix because the sound was so magnificent that I didn't want to have to return this soundbar. I've done extensive research and it seems HDMI arc and cable boxes have this issues across the board. I hope this review helps anyone who runs into this problem and feels defeated!

Great Speakers, Better Sound

First experience with a soundbar and if they are all like this one, then I'm a believer. Great bass and the wireless rear speakers are easy to sync and sound great, if not a little understated compared to my 5 speakers which were wired ADRs. Definitely good quality even if the first set had to be returned. 2nd set rocks! A little expensive compared to other like models but you get full quality, immersive surround sound with lots of subwoofer if you want it!!

This system, I put it in my basement to replace an older Nakamichi system that the sub was starting to act up. I was not impressed at first until I had everything hooked up the way I wanted it and since I was using a projector having HDMIarc was out of the question and I could not go optical off of the projector. So I ran the optical straight from the cable box and did not like the way it sounded, lots of distortion. I also could not run my Roku. So I picked up an HDMI matrix switch with an optical out for sound. Once all hooked up, this system just blew me away, all the highs, excellent sub that I could feel and many adjustments that I could male it sound the way I wanted. Once all adjust, pulled up the movie 2012 and it was just like setting in a theater watching it. All the sound just surrounding me and moving from front to back and side to side. I couldn’t be more happy. I also have a Bose sound system in my living room and this Samsung system definitely competes with it!

No calibration mic for adjusting atmos, really easy to setup, make sure you update the firmware. Subwoofer and the bar are really nice, the back speakers are also nice to have. Make sure you keep it in standard, that is the best sounding for all content. I had a weird thing where my tv wasn't outputting DTS properly through arc (down mixing to 2.1), but I'm pretty sure he issue was with my tv. DTS 5.1 tracks play perfect through optical so I just switch to that whenever I'm watching something with DTS on the TV.

The one downside to this product are the rear speakers. Not powerful enough. Seems the rears can only be heard with certain programs or movies. Otherwise, the soundbar is pretty good and the sub booms! Easy hookup and effortlessly compatible with my Samsung S20 Plus. Best part is that I bought it as an open box, sight unseen, for over $100 less, and had an impeccable product delivered to my home within days - just in time to make a lasting impression on my holiday guests!

Great home theater sound for a soundbar

This soundbar is amazing. I went on to YouTube and played a test video for Dolby Atmos and it took my breath away. I could hear sound going around me like i had speakers all over the room. It is an amazing soundbar but is still no match for a regular 5 or 7 speaker setup like my onkyo speaker setup. I dont think any soundbar can compete even if you buy the top samsung soundbar. I do a lot of karaoke and this soundbar is okay for karaoke. The voices is not as clear on it as my onkyo. Also, you can not have hdmi arc cable plug in and optical cable plugged in at the same time. HDMI arc becomes default and no way to switch to optical input without unplugging the hdmi arc cable. Flawed design in that aspect. Overall, great home theater sound for a soundbar.

I previously purchased a Samsung 3.1.2 sound bar and I was satisfied, but then I started reading reviews on the 2020 Samsung sound bars. Being an elite Best Buy member, I was eligible to return my original purchase and purchase the Samsung Q850T sound. Samsung offers an Q800 and Q850 which is exclusive at Best Buy. The difference is rear speakers are available on the Q850 and only at Best Buy. Purchased the 2020 Q850, got it home, had it hooked up in 15 minutes, very simple. Didn’t hook up the rear speakers, but will later. Wow and Wow again, the sound is unbelievable. With the Dolby Atmos, you actually feel like your there, particularly with airplanes. We do have blue ray player and the picture is dynamic and the sound bar actually increases the quality of performance. I highly recommend this sound bar and earns the 5 stars.

I went from a Samsung r550 2.1 setup to this 5.1.2 setup and oh my goodness it is great. The game pro function is great for my series x, although it can lack a bit of bass, I'm willing to look past it because the surround speakers are really nice. I hung them up on my wall using thumb tacks and I haven't had any issues with it.
I ended up plugging my series x into the sound bar to get to the Dolby atmos and dts x features. Rtings said it doesn't support 5.1 pcm passthrough, but it works when I change the settings on my console. It's also passing through vrr and 4k 60hrz, although my tv doesn't support 4k 120, just 1440p 120. Great sound bar, no huge complaints.

This is an older samsung Dolby Atmos sound bar, but it performs prettt well. Its easy to hook up and get running in just a few minutes. The rear surround speakers are easily set up, though not quite as neatly as other soundbar brands. The surrounds attach to a wireless receiver, as opposed tonthe subwoofer like other brands. Not a big deal, but you will have an additional piece of equipment to plug in and find a place for in your set up.
The inputs are adequate as the soundbar has 2 HDMI inputs. One has ARC, so it will work with any apps your t.v. may support.
The settings are pretty straight forward, but I find you will need to turn up some of the speaker settings to get the best effects.
Sound-wise the Samsung Q850T is decent. The base is solid, but not overwhelming. The surrounds are pretty clear as well. The Atmos effects are only o.k. though...You will find you will need to cranknthe volume to notice any overhead effects. Atmos is not existent at lower vokumes. I actually think this soundbar performs better with DTS X material, as it also decodes that surround sound format.
Overall its a good soundbar for the price I paid (open box on sale). It will not replace a full Atmos set up, but it does well in a small space and does give a pretty good sense of immersion when the volume is turned up.

No complaints in sound and it is customizable beyond the 4 presets. Bass is well defined and not obnoxious. Still unable to use the Alexa feature and Smartthings is mostly useless for this product. Like many reviews, hoping a firmware update takes care of the current issues. If the quality was any less, I would have returned it promptly.

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-Q850T Soundbar. To set up the Alexa functionality, you must do it within the SmartThings app. However, if you are having trouble, follow these steps on your smart phone: 1. First delete the Soundbar from your SmartThings account: At the top left corner of the main page, tap on the 3 horizontal bars > Devices > tap on the 3 vertical dots on the top right corner > Delete > select the Soundbar > Delete 2. Uninstall the SmartThings app from your smart phone 3. Reinstall the SmartThings app from the app store 4. Sign into your SmartThings account 5. Tap the + button at the top right of the main page > select Device > AV > Samsung > Soundbar 6. After the Soundbar has been added, select the Soundbar from the main page 7. Tap on the 3 vertical dots on the top right corner and tap on “Alexa Settings” to log in to your Amazon account
Please know that a new firmware release is now available (ver. 1016.0). You can update via Auto Update, by using the SmartThings app, or by using a USB device. Updating the firmware on your soundbar gives you all the benefits of the latest improvements.
I hope this helps. For further assistance, please contact Samsung Customer Support.

This Soundbar totally wowed me! The sound is incredible. The bass from the subwoofer is intense and thumping. It connected well with my Hisense Smart TV with no issues via HDMI cable. The Soundbar also connects beautifully, via Bluetooth, to my cellphone as well as my Bose 500 Smart Speaker. I have tested the Soundbar at 50% volume and it was loud enough to be heard outside. I would not recommend if you live in an apartment community unless you play at low volumes. I highly recommend this Soundbar to anyone wanting an incredible sound playing a movie or music.

Nice soundbar! Sound is good and the sub adds to the experience nicely. The rear/remote speakers are just lacking. If there was a way to turn up the rears more or have more sound out of them (that I have not found) then it would get its 5th star.

The sound is great. Although it is a fairly expensive system. I don't notice any lag with the rear surround speakers and I do not get any bluetooth interference. The only thing I did not like was that the I needed speaker cables for the rear surround speakers. I do wish the whole system was wireless.

Great sound and easy to set up. The only reason for 4 stars vs 5 stars is that the rear speakers are not truly wireless, they are only wireless from the bas unit, you have to connect them to a power/receiver and that is wireless from the main unit so really no way to hang them on the wall behind us.

I was looking for a wireless speaker set which had Dolby Atmos, and this set kept coming to the top of all my research. I have a Samsung TV already, so setup was simple. However, I ran into issues right away with both the TOSLink and HDMI connections. The ARC audio would function correctly for 24 to 48 hours, then just stop being detected randomly. TOSLink would function, but acted odd for gaming systems. You'd miss the first second of audio when say, coming into a new room. Since the audio stream from the console wasn't constant, the soundbar would stop. Then as soon as the audio stream kicked in again, you'd be good. Just with that slight delay.
I did some additional research, and found many people have run into this problem. The soundbar needed a manual firmware update, even though I've got it on my wireless Internet, and the app says it was up to date. After finding the correct firmware update on Samsung's website and getting it installed, the system works amazing. Its totally worth the price, just know what you are getting yourself into.

Love this unit. I upgraded from a a previous Samsung soundbar that was okay but I was definitely missing the actual surround sound. This unit brings the rear satellite speakers and they work really well. The Dolby Atmost is also amazing as I hear sounds that I don’t know where they are even coming from. The sound is clear and loud as well. I use this to play music as well and it fills up the house with great sound and bass. Subwoofer has an awesome impact. Overall, this is by far the best surround and soundbar system I have owned. Super happy.

I’m not an audiophile by any means, but this soundbar is fantastic, especially for the sale price of $699. I was reluctant to move forward with the purchase because some reviewers complained of lacking bass and rear speaker quality. I’m not experiencing any of these issues. Playing music is amazing. My trial set up for surround sound was on an inexpensive television that didn’t support atmos. I was concerned about the system quality until connecting it thru a newer lg oled. Wow! HUGE difference.

Had this thing almost a month. Setup was super easy. Much bigger sound than I expected. Watching Tenet was an immersive experience from just this product. Wife even commented on the sound and how mych better it was than she expected.
Downsized from a full surround setup and wasn't expecting it to be this good.
Others have said they had connectivity issues, I've experienced none, easy setup, easy pairing. Depending on the source there is a slight audio lag but it is easily corrected.
Definitely recommend
