The soundbar, sub, and rear speakers are a good package when bought on sell. The sound quality is excellent. However, the rear "wireless" speakers have to be connected to the included receiver using included speaker wire to work. The rear speakers are not truly wireless.

Went from a pretty good receiver based system to this. I wanted to give up the tangle of wires and the speakers all over the place. I knew that I would be giving up some theater-like quality for convenience. This system really surprised me! The sound is immersive- I am surrounded by good quality (i.e. accurate) sound. The channel separation is great from front to back and left/right/center. The Atmos is there but not as effective as my previous system was. It connects my new Samsung TV so that helps as it basically adds a few speakers to the set-up. What would make it better? Some type of sound feedback mechanism (as other more expensive units have) and better Atmos separation. For the price it is a very good system. Easy to set-up, some versatility (there is an equalizer, different sound modes, and control of front, center, Atmos, and surround levels), and great sound decoding.

Loving this new sound system. Was a very simple set up with everything connecting easily and up and running within an hour of bringing it home. The bass is deep and the rear speakers add a dimension that makes for a better experience while watching shows or listening to music. The different modes of connecting all worked and the wireless set up of the rear speakers tower and the bass itself happened very seamlessly. Overall I'm very happy with the product.

For this Samsung system that was almost one thousand dollars I expected it to be a bit better. The rear speakers won’t even notice the sound unless you have them directly near you or around in the vicinity of where you’re sitting. You can only turn up the rear speakers to a 6+ and its ridiculous. The sound bar and sub-woofer are nice but Samsung was misleading because it’s wireless but the rear speakers are both contacted by four wires. Note to anyone make sure you don’t put the wires all the way in because they won’t work. Barely place the wires in the speakers and they are really finicky. You hit the rear speakers and they both will not work. I think Samsung is over all good but this sound system isn’t worth the price.

      Electronicgeek2089:

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-Q850T soundbar and for your review. Your soundbar is engineered with Acoustic beam delivering directional sound that makes it feel like you are a part of the scene.

I am very sorry for any confusion about the wireless description. Often times, customers have trouble hiding and running speaker wires from the front of the room (where their soundbar is) to the back of their room (where they have their rear speakers). The Rear Speaker Kit eliminates that hassle. Connect the rear speakers to its wireless module and place these three in the back of your room. One wire is required to connect each rear speaker to the wireless module. Then plug in the power cable to the module. The “wireless” convenience is in connecting your soundbar and any other speakers at the front of the room to the rear speakers – this can now be done via Wi-Fi through the wireless module, eliminating any clutter of long wires running the length of your room.

By design, the surround speakers are supposed to simulate sounds happening behind the viewer. Therefore, most of the time the surround channels are only used for ambient sounds, which are naturally lower in volume.

However, there are a few settings you can change to adjust the surround effect to your preference:

      1) Make sure that the source (e.g. TV output) is sending surround channels to the Soundbar. If the source is not capable of surround, then set the Surround mode to OFF on the Soundbar by pressing the Surround button on the remote.
      2) If the source has surround channels, select the desired Sound Mode from the Soundbar remote.
      3) Turn off Dynamic Range Control. This is done by pressing and holing the Sound Mode button while the Soundbar is in standby mode. Depending on your soundbar model, you may or may not have DRC.
      4) Increase the volume level of the surround speakers using the Sound Control button on the Soundbar remote control. Press the Sound Control button on the soundbar remote (looks like a gear), then select REAR LEVEL and use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the volume within a -6 to +6 range.

I hope these tips help to enhance your audio enjoyment.

Samsung has done a great job with this one. The rear speakers are great. The bass forget it, it’s the best subwoofer you will ever have on a home surround sound system. The sound bar has some many front facing and upward firing speakers it will make you truly feel that you are in theatre. In my opinion it’s only a small step down from a sonos surround. For the money and the quality I’ve made the best choice and will enjoy this for years to come.

Bought as an open box so cost about half what the current models are on sale for. Sound is pretty good from the sound bar and subwoofer but the rear surround channel is really weak. My other complaint is that the soundbar has trouble switching back to my satellite box after running netflix or other apps on the TV. Setup is really easy and the unit puts out a lot of rich sounds from a relatively small soundbar. I have read that some of the newer versions have similar problems with switching and weak rear channel output so while it's a little disappointing, I feel like the significantly reduced price offsets some of my disappointment.

      Hi jlfjenajie,

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the HW-Q850T Soundbar not maintaining the desired source connection. Please know that the soundbar will remember the last setting before it was turned off. Thus, if you wish the soundbar to turn on to detect HDMI, make sure that the HDMI is the used source when you turn off.

Got this as an open box item and was in excellent condition. I previously bought the Samsung q70t with surround speakers for my video game room and was impressed with the sound. So I bought this for the living room as it was a stronger system. The sound is amazing, especially when dolby atmos is coming through. Took me a bit to configure it to my vizio tv but once I did it was well worth the money.

It’s a little complicated to use it. I’ve had it for about 2 weeks and I still haven’t figured out how to use it correctly. For example, when I play music from my phone it doesn’t allow me to maximize or put it it up real loud. No matter how loud I try to put it, it AUTOMATICALLY reduces the volume. I’m not sure why it does that. I’m confused because it doesn’t do that when I’m watching tv, or atleast i haven’t realized. Also, there are so many different settings that I’m not sure what is the best for tv or music. They should have made it a little more simple to use. And also if it’s turned off, I can’t just turn on my phone and listen to music. I have to first turn the TV on THEN switch it to my phone. Like I said it’s complicated to use , but the sound is great that’s why I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Overall good soundbar. Works well with my Samsung Q80r T.V. Clear dialogue, and Surround speakers are good. The subwoofer seems a little weak. But, it seems that it verys depending on the program your watching. My only complaint is that the soundbar sound is off with the picture on my Xfinity box. It works well with the apps on my T.V. like Netficks, Hulu, and movies from my DVD 4k player. Just Xfinity box isn't in sync.

Holy Moly!!!! This sound bar is top notch! Setup wasn't hard at all. Bought stands for the rear speakers to have them near ear level from behind us. Paired with the Samsung Q series tv, this soundbar makes you feel as if you're in your own personal movie theater. The bass is superb and can be heard throughout the entire house. I definitely recommend this system.

Great sound and easy to set up. The rear speakers work best on a sofa close to the users. I also found that I needed the volume increased for the rear speakers to be effective. The dynamic surround setting works very well and optimizes the speakers for the sound content. The wireless system has been very reliable and really creates a clean installation. One other comment, synchronizing the sound with a Samsung Q90 TV is almost impossible. The TV has a sound delay setting as does the Q850 system. No matter how the settings are changed, there is always a synchronization delay between the sound and a person speaking. You get used to this but it is annoying.

I was hoping for a totally wireless (bluetooth) system, but once you get over the disappointment of having to connect and wire the rear speakers to a "hub", the system performs very well and fills our large kitchen and family room area with some rich sound. The sub woofer has some serious "thump" and we're glad we purchased the system.
