I bought a 75" QLED Samsung TV for my den and to use as my main TV and wanted a surround sound system to go with it. It just doesn't have enough power and full sound for a big room. The subwoofer is pretty good but the voice levels don't rise with the bass and you have to turn it all the way up just to get the rear speakers to add sound. I ended up getting Definitive Technology tower speakers and they sound full and 100 times better. I put this soundbar in my bedroom and it works much better there. In a smaller area the voice isn't drowned out and the Atmos surround sound is great. This is expensive for most people to use in a bedroom so overall I can only give 3 stars due to price and sound quality compared to others. Polk has soundbars that are cheaper but they get louder and sound more full and I'd recommend them over Samsung.

If you can afford this price point, buy this system. Initially I had a problem with the sub breaking up a bit but proper placement of the sub solved that issue. The sound this system produces is simply amazing, from whatever source, movies, games, blue tooth streaming, it's just good. I mostly use my Xbox One S and directv. I have my Xbox connected directly to tye Soundbar to take advantage of the new Dolby Atmos update, which when active is really when this unit shines. The Magnificent Seven and 13 Hours sound incredible. Directv is connected directly to my UN60KS8000 and I get sound back thru the Soundbar via ARC. The HW-K950 is dope and highly, highly recommend this unit.

This review is based on my personal experience coming from a 5.1 SONOS setup which I have had for the past almost 4 years now. I was very happy with the quality of my SONOS system but I was feeling the lack of Surround Sound. I stepped into my local Best Buy's Magnolia showroom where I had a chance to hear this bad boy play and I can tell you I was wowed as well as every single other customer that was standing around me. I purchased it on the spot as soon as the rep told me the price just dropped down to $999! Setup at home was a breeze. FYI connect your Atmos source directly to the bar (you can do it from TV ARC as well to get Atmos but on non Samsung TVs). I have my Shield TV Pro and soon to be PS4 Pro connected to the system. Via the VUDU app on my Android TV I get insanely clear and realistic sound. The 5.1 surround is decent but not as full on the rear speakers. You can manually adjust that tho. Set the SL, SR, STL, STR to +3 to get best results. Finally, to the important stuff... Content available to use with the system.. Wait for it... Not a whole lot! You can play via UHD BluRay player (which I don't have) or streaming sources like VUDU which can stream 4K Atmos Dolby Vision. My Shield TV needs the N upgrade before it can playback TrueHD 7.1 MKV files via KODI or SPMC directly to the K950. For the geek spec seekers, the system does passthrough HDR 4K and both HDMI inputs are HDCP 2.2 compliant. I would recommend this Soundbar as an upgrade or even replacement for a full wired surround sound (yes i said it) It is simple and easy to setup and wire free!! Future proof! DTS 2.0 (might get DTS: X support in future firmware upgrade)

This is one of samsungs best. It's a little pricey but worth every penny. It is linked with my Samsung 9000 series tv and makes connectivity seem less. I thank Evelyn at the Glendale store in California who was and is an amazing sales woman for not only recommending the TV but pairing it with such a great sound bar. The sound quality is perfect. I now have a personal movie theater in my living room

Best sound bar on the market hands down

I've had this sound bar for about 9 months, and the main reason I went with the Samsung sound bar over the competition was because of the rear speakers, the rear speakers complete the experience. I was waiting for the new Sony HTS5000 sound bar to come out but it didn't have any rear speakers. For all the people saying it doesn't encode DTS it does when you do the software update. The engineers that worked on the Samsung unit did a outstanding job. My old system was a Denon receiver with Klipsch 5.1 book shelf speakers. Which is good but I wanted Dolby Atmos and I didn't want to run wires everywhere. Dolby Atmos is a entire different topic. This system does a great job reproduces that format well. The system is totally wireless and movies with DTS sound great. My family came over and watch 47 meters below and that movie is in DTS HD and everyone was jumping from the sound effects of that movie. Buy this unit you will not be mad, I was worried about the 8 inch subwoofer and 500 watt but the subwoofer is powerful, it shakes the room. And my living room is a open floor plan that's spacious. My subwoofer has drop the bass a couple of times but not often and after you update the software it takes care of a lot of the issues people have been complaining about. The only downside is this sound bar want transmit dolby atmos over HDMI ARC. But that's my only gripe about this system. My friends came over there looking into getting this same system. And my wife wants to have movie night now.

Having Dolby Atmos at this budget, as well as having take up such little space not having to have additional speaker mounts or tearing apart a whole room? This may be just right for you. The setup was easy and straight forward until at the time they didn't have the DTS update (which came later after I purchased it) At that price point at the given time, I wasn't sure it was worth it. Having dolby atmos was nice but given the minimal amount of enabled content it made me question the purchase. Not having DTS mixes or certain surround content available at this price end, wasn't looking well. The moment I grabbed some Dolby Atmos enabled Ultra HD 4K movies though, it changed the experience drastically! I tried San Andreas and nearly jumped out of my seat. Even the remastered classics like the Fifth element brought in new sounds or nuances that I hadn't noticed originally. Guardians of the galaxy 2 is a personal favorite of mine with this system. Compared to other sound bars, it's very hard to find something that has both dolby atmos, as well as the necessary bass punch for house parties/music listening. This works flawlessly with both assuming you DO get the updates right away. After going through and learning about the update, different modes and how to make sure it's sourced through ARC (the only way to get Dolby atmos with your enabled receiver I haven't had any problems since)

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this product. The Dolby Atmos is amazing, and it brings a whole new level of enjoyment to watching 4k Blu Rays. I have a fairly large TV room, and the soundbar has more than enough power to fill the room. Setup was fairly easy, and the speakers automatically connect. However, I can't give it 5 stars for the following reasons. First and most important, I have an LG OLED that supports Dolby Atmos, but I can't get Dolby Atmos through the use of HDMI ARC. So when I watch Netflix from my TV, I only get 5.1 sound. It still sounds great, but I paid a lot of money for the Atmos capabilities. So I only get Atmos by watching Blu Rays (but no Dolby Vision since my player doesn't support it - so I sacrifice either Dolby Vision or Atmos based on what I watch, ugh). Not sure if this is an issue with the TV or the soundbar, but I suspect the soundbar since there has to be a way to pass Atmos from the TV or else why have include it as a feature. Second, every once in a while the speakers disconnect. It's really noticeable with the subwoofer. It only lasts seconds, so not a huge deal. Third, every time the sound bar is turned back on, I have to turn surround sound ON. It sounds a lot better with the surround effect on, so I wish it would just stay on. Fourth, and this isn't technically an issue with the soundbar but with the Samsung world, the multiroom app that you can use to stream music to the soundbar via WiFi is useless. It always crashes on me, and when it works, it's very difficult to change songs or get it to otherwise respond. I end up just playing music via bluetooth (and music sounds great!). All in all, a very good product. For the price, I just wish it was perfect.

First off my setup is LG C7(awesome tv) connectect to the soundbar then to Xbox One S.I had done my research before buying this and knowing this will not beat a regular 5.1 system with a reciver but it is a easier solution for somone like me in a Duplex who doesnt want to run wires and doesnt have space for a traditional 5.1 with a reciver. Overall i like this soundbar it gives me all i need unlike the first soundbar i got this one has rear speakers and for me i sit 13' away so i didnt get the real surround experience when not having them. I love Dolby Atmos you really do get an awesome experience when watching stuff with it, my favorite so far is Mad Max: Fury Road and i play that through my Xbox one S. -Now for the cons my biggest one is no Dolby Atmos through ARC witch means i have tv to soundbar to xbox to get atmos which sucks cause my LG C7 does atmos through arc and it has way more features then xbox one like dolby vision. - Doesnt have DTS:X which is very common in movies previosly it only had DTS 2.0(stereo) and now only has DTS in 5.1 in multichannel and thats good but for this much money i would expect DTS X -Lastly no Dolby Vision or HLG passthrough witch i doubt will come cause the samsung is supporting HDR 10+ . Overall it is a very good soundbar but doesnt really compete with a traditional 5.1 setup . Atmos is awesome, wish it had DTS X. If you want the best Atmos soundbar for the money i think this is it, i got it onsale at best buy for 1200. You could always look at bose soundtouch 300 or sonos playbar there both great, but it will cost about 500 more and to me this is better. Sorry it is was long SAMSUNG PLEASE ADD DOBLY ATMOS OVER ARC. ALSO DTS:X AND DOLBY VISION UPDATES IF POSSIBLE, THAT WOULD MAKE IT THE BEST IN MY OPINION.

I've spent many months looking at options for a soundbar that can produce surround sound. While the easy option for true surround sound is to have a home theater set up with a traditional receiver, speakers, etc. I have my TV mounted in an orientation that does not allow for a receiver. So I turned to soudbars. I initially purchased a Samsung K650 with Radiant R1 speakers which came to about $600 due to sales. While the K650 could produce okay sound, the radiant speakers were only able of pumping stereo sound to the rear. Which sounded horrific. My search went on..I was met with the Samung K950, Sonos Play bar + play:1s and the Bose sound touch 300 w/rears. All three options when you bundle rears and a sub come to $1,500-1,900. Certainly not cheap, even worse none are the perfect option. Each has several downfalls but you will have to weigh up the pros/cons yourself. Speaking strictly to the K950. Initially, prior to update 3108, the rear speakers were not existent for most content. However, now they provide a pretty great sound all things considered. I am very happy with the sound this unit can produce especially for ATMOS content. In fact, I would say it challenges mid range theater set ups. Pretty great for spending about 5 minutes hooking it up. Things to note, most TVs don't pass through 5.1 content and definitely not ATMOS. Luckily, there are 2 HDMI pass throughs to combat this. Despite mix messages, yes these pass throughs work for 4k HDR content. The biggest downfall is this unit does not process DTS. Why? Who knows. But you can by pass this by spending on a decent blu ray player than can convert DTS->DD pretty well.

    Excellent sound, lacks some flexibility

I had originally purchased Sony's HT-Z9F soundbar from another store, along with its matching wireless rear speakers. The features and customizable settings were excellent, but the sound was noticeably tinny and left a lot to be desired, aside from the nice subwoofer. The "Atmos "and "X" effects on it sounded too obviously virtual to my picky ears, so I returned it and gave this Samsung a try. I find the results in this case somewhat opposite the Sony, but ultimately for the best. The sound is now excellent, but it seems to lack the flexibility the extensive settings menu on the Sony provided. That said, it's a soundbar, so I'd rather have it sound good out of the box than require me to dig into menus for days anyway. I have not experienced any of the issues some others seem to have had with this unit, but I do have some gripes of my own. I think it goes to sleep too quickly compared to my other devices connected to it. It does occasionally lose its connection to one of the rear speakers at start up, but it somehow finds a way to solve itself right away without any of my effort. Gripes aside, what I think this soundbar does very successfully is NOT sound like a soundbar. And that's everything. I don't like my sound colored, especially by the inherent limitations most soundbars can't help, e.g. their size. The oomph and clarity of the Samsung almost make you forget you're listening to a soundbar. It handles movies and music equally well, and the sound stage fills my bedroom, especially when watching a blu-ray encoded with Dolby Atmos. I think it's a keeper, especially when bought on sale. 5 stars for sound, 4 stars for features/flexibility, so really I'd give it a 4.5 if I could. Side note: Folks who are complaining that Atmos doesn't work with certain material, or via ARC, it's because it's not supposed to work from a source that doesn't actually have Atmos. It's like saying your 1080p blu-ray isn't displaying 4k correctly. If you connect a blu-ray player to this soundbar and play a movie that has a Dolby Atmos track, it works as it should. I also don't find the lack of DTS X a big deal because out of my hundreds of blu-rays, nearly none of them have an "X" track. Atmos is more of a purist format to begin with, because it actually uses speakers for the extra sound. DTS X seems to be more of a software-driven, virtual effect that doesn't require the extra speakers. Something to consider when breaking things down to the reality of the two formats...

The K950 sound bar has incredible sound, especially when playing a movie with Atmos. The rear speaker work and sound great. I have the UN65KS9800 TV, the Blu-ray K8500 and the K950 Sound-Bar (all Samsung), and I paid to have it all setup. Here’s the thing I have had Geek squad out twice, the Best Buy sales associate who was the Samsung specialist for the store, out twice, once with the area Samsung Field Sales Manager. The sound-bar was setup incorrectly the first time and of course Atmos didn't work. Then the Best Buy Samsung Specialist , came out and set it up correctly and it worked (with pass through) for a few days then it stopped, don't know why an auto update maybe, couldn't use the DVD player wouldn’t even see it on the smart hub. So they came back out again and set it up just so I could use the DVD player and the Atmos works. But it is not working as designed, not set backup correctly, so when I source the DVD player (DVD, Speaker not setup as pass through now) it does not source the sound automatically, I have to start the movie on the DVD player then with the Speaker remote source over to HDMI 1 but only after the movie is started. If I pause the movie or anything else with the DVD player, the Speaker automatically switches back to the the TV (ARC), I have to restart the movie, then with the Speaker remote source over to HDMI 1 yet again. I called Samsung technical department and they said it was not setup correctly (not setup with pass through). Da. Ya I know this but it didn't work when setup correctly for more then a few days. So someone is coming back out tomorrow to try yet again they know its not setup correctly and its not working properly, so if they cant get it working tomorrow, the next step is replace the sound-bar. Confused yet. Sorry for the rambling, believe it or not this is the abbreviated version. know more tomorrow i think??

The system sounds great...when it works correctly. Purchased August 2017 and have a hardware problem December 2017 (no audio from TrueHD source, no ATMOS audio) requiring me to send the soundbar in for service to replace the mainboard/DSP. The original firmware out-of-the-box worked great for any Dolby source, but would only handle 2-channel DTS. It also will only handle 2-channel PCM. For these flaws, it was stable and worked. A firmware update (3114) added support for 5-channel DTS (but not DTS-X, multi-channel LPCM, or other formats any decent AVR will handle). This firmware introduced several new problems (inputs cycling to TV from the manually selected source when using ARC, continuous "network connected" messages on the screen during movies where all other devices ride through without a hitch, etc.) These are well documented on Samsung's support forum by users with basically no indication from Samsung that they will work to address any further issues. If you want the convenience of a sound bar and wireless sub/surrounds, and you can live with the limitations of the system as they are today, this might be an OK fit pending more and better competition. If you are buying this at a substantial discount, it may also make sense. If you are paying full price for the system, you'll probably disappointed.

I wanted to get a new surround sound system for a new home but didn't want to go through the trouble and expense of hole-cutting and wiring and buying a lot of components. A friend told me about Dolby Atmos, a new sound standard that basically envelopes you in sound. I wanted it and this soundbar delivers that without all the additional headaches. It's not cheap but it sounds amazing and does deliver on the Dolby Atmos promise. Rain feels and sounds as if coming down from above. Sounds are deep and immersive. Even on standard sources, the bar "upscales" them. The included subwoofer and rears will make you forget about your old receiver plus speakers plus component setup and you can add speakers easily via bluetooth and have sound throughout your home, a la Sonos. You can also feed it live music from Pandora, Apple Music, etc. And it sounds good in music mode, too.

Bought 2 of these soundbars for my LG OLED tv’s because I don’t have room for full Dolby atmos surround sound systems. Very good quality sound but not loud at all. I expected a much louder sound system for the money but considering it’s one of only a couple of Dolby Atmos soundbars, If that’s what you’re looking for, get it. If you’re not looking for Atmos, I’d go for a cheaper soundbar.

I purchased this as an open box. I received a discount to help me justify the high cost. I'm having difficulty seeing value at $1700.00 I installed this in my master bedroom. It's really a very good surround system, especially for those that don't want to run speaker wire. Yes the surround speakers produce some white noise when the soundtrack isn't sending audio to the surrounds. I'm impressed with the volume. It can get quite loud. The subwoofer produces a lot of clean bass. I reduced the volume of the sub to balance it. Soon I'll try a dolby atmos soundtrack and update my review. I think it is every bit as good as a Sonos system at a lower price. You can stream music to the soundbar like Sonos.

But on non Atmos sources I find the sound a bit thin. Good deep base and clear voices but weak midrange. Not terrible but on non Atmos sources my LGSh7B sounds better (minus not having surround).

The Samsung HW-K950 sounds great when playing 4K movies with Dolby Atmos. Rear wireless surrounds (they still need to be plugged into an outlet) really increase the immersion. The only negative would be the lack of DTS support. Blu Rays with DTS audio still sound okay with virtual surround but don’t pack the same wallop as Atmos.

If you don't have the space for a full surround set up, then this soundbar is a great alternative. It is a little pricey, but it's worth it. The sound quality for watching sports and movies on TV is great, but if you really want to experience the true power of this baby you need to watch a Blueray in Dolby Atmos. The sound is amazing!!
