Not Compatible
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to match my Samsung 65"tv. Hooked it up and could not get the woofer to work. i called samsung and they told me that it was not compatible with the TV. I would suggest that if you buy anything Samsung to match another Samsung product, call the factory first.

Decent Basic Sound Bar
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like that it is a “5.1” in the sense that it has more speakers in the bar; however, it does not create an illusion of surround. I’d say they are better sound bars out there, but this one is decent for the money.

A "Best Choice" for soundbar/subwoofer combos
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: The shape of the packaging, while fairly common for soundbar/subwoofer combos, is still somewhat strange to me. I understand manufacturer’s current “need” to reduce packaging materials, but, to me eye, the design leaves too much potential for damage during transportation from store (or online retailer) to home. The point is, I really done care much for the L-shaped boxes…not that it detracts from the product, itself. Upon opening the box, and removing the soundbar & subwoofer, you’re greeted by a nice-looking, albeit somewhat different soundbar, and a fairly-standard looking subwoofer. Starting with the soundbar, I say “somewhat different” due to two unique features…the first is the “bar” running along the top, towards the back, from side-to-side; the second are the “flute-like” holes running along the top of the soundbar, again, from side-to-side. According to Samsung, this second feature…a new “technology”, they’ve labeled “Beam Forming”…is supposedly for more “life-like sound positioning”. Whether, or not, it works exactly as they claim, I still haven’t decided. Of course, Samsung is positioning this soundbar as a “gaming” soundbar, and I don’t have a game console (yet, though I do have a high-end gaming desktop PC), but it works equally-well with TV & movies. Before moving on, I do have to mention the unique shape of the soundbar…unlike other soundbars, with their elongated “bar” shape, the HW-N650 has more of a “wedge” shape. SETUP AND CONFIGURATION: Honestly, setup couldn’t be easier, as the HW-N650 provides two connection options. The first is a pass-through design, in which you first connect one HDMI cable between your video game system, or Blu-Ray player, and the soundbar…and then you connect a second HDMI cable between the soundbar & TV. The second option is to connect via Bluetooth, which, I’ll admit, I didn’t do, so, unfortunately, I can’t provide any information on this. Finally, plug the power cords (soundbar & subwoofer) into an outlet. For the best “sound” from the subwoofer, place it in a corner, approximately 6” from each wall. If a corner isn’t possible, along a wall is almost as good…but, again, place approximately 6” from the wall (no closer, but slightly further, up to one foot, is still good). Additional connection options include USB, optical, and 1/8” (the last analog-only). As for the subwoofer, it’s purely wireless. SOUND QUALITY: Techn ically, the HW-N650 is a 3.1 channel system, consisting of 8 speakers, providing “virtual 5.1-channel” sound. Additionally, the HW-N650 is compatible with Samsung’s SWA-8500S Wireless Rear Speaker Kit. Whether this turns the system into a true 5.1-channel system, a 7.1-channel system, or allowing your choice of these two, I am unaware…I couldn’t get this info from Samsung, other than confirmation that the SWA-8500S is compatible with the HW-N650. As for sound quality, while not as good as a true multi-speaker configuration, through the use of their “Beam Forming technology”, it does create a reasonable facsimile of a 5.1-channel system. Samsung states a maximum 360W of power (200W max for the soundbar, & 160W max for the subwoofer), and, while I’d like to believe them, I can’t actually confirm this. Built-in decoders include Dolby Digital & DTS, but no “Dolby Atmos”…not even virtually. Decoding ability includes your usual formats, as well as a couple not always seen: OGG & FLAC. Lastly, there are three DSP sound modes: Standard, Game, & SSE. For movies, I found the “Standard” mode to be the best. Again, I don’t (currently) have a game system, but I’d assume that the “Game” mode, through the use of Samsung’s “Beam Forming technology”, strongly emphasizes in-game audio. ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: Unfortunately, with all the ‘good’, there’s always bound to be some ‘bad’. In the case of the Samsung HW-N650, the first is its use of Bluetooth 2.1, which is outdated by several years. Seriously, why would Samsung use such an old standard, when Bluetooth 4.0, & 4.2 offer much more. Another “downfall” is the use of USB 1.1, which makes no sense, when implementing USB 3.0 would only increase manufacturing cost by pennies. FINAL VERDICT: The Samsung HW-N650 Panoramic Soundbar, for what it is, is extremely good. Just as there are more expensive (and better-sounding) units, there are also less expensive (and not as good-sounding) units. For the price ($500), you could be hard-pressed to find something better. If you’re looking for a soundbar system (ie. one including a subwoofer), and you’re looking to spend in the $400-600 range, when narrowing down your choices down to your final 3-5 possibilities, having the Samsung HW-N650 on that list would be a very good thing. In terms of “bang-for-the-buck”, I might go so far as to say that the HW-N650 would be one of the best available. Despite utilizing outdated USB & Bluetooth formats, everything else about it is great. If you asked me if I’d recommend it, the answer is “yes”. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

Exactly what I was looking for
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This soundbar was the perfect solution to my audio dilemma. I recently made the move to a 4K TV and I was really looking for a way to enjoy the improved sound and enhance my consumption of media. I did not want to buy a receiver and my small space was not optimal for the corresponding wires and speakers that would be needed. Enter this Samsung sound bar. It is a much simpler, compact, and more elegant alternative. It comes with the sound bar itself, wireless sub, remote, optical cable, power cables, power adapter and wall mount kit. The sound bar is well-built, feels sturdy and looks like a premium product. The design is unlike sound bars I have seen, with an almost wedge-like shape. According to Samsung, this is function meeting form, as it allows for their “Beam Forming” technology to throw sound in all directions. The wireless sub is something else that I am quite pleased with. As I mentioned earlier, space is at a premium for me, so having some flexibility with its placement is a great bonus. Setup is, simply, a breeze. Power the units, plug in your source. There really is not much more to it than that. Depending on your equipment and needs, there are a few ways to go about it, with an added detail here and there, but in the end, you should not have any major issues. So, how does it all sound? Honestly, I am quite pleasantly surprised. The sound is loud, filling my space, crisp, clear, and deep. Highs, mids and lows are all covered. The sub does not throw “earth-shattering” bass, but it is there and brings that welcome punch to your content. Further, as an avid movie watcher, it Is great that dialogue is clear with ample volume. As I have more time with this, I am confident it will all only get better as I tune the settings more to my liking. Lastly, I am very impressed with the directional sound this throws out. Action ebbs and flows across the screen and the sound absolutely follows it. It adds an immersive quality to my content that, quite honestly, made me wish I had moved to something like this much sooner. The ability to add more speakers to this system is welcome, and something I am very much considering. Ultimately, I think this is a great system. It checks all my boxes…well-built, looks great, performs well, has some flexibility, is a great value and, perhaps most importantly, because of all those things…allows me to enjoy my screen time more. That is what is all about.

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-N650 Soundbar System. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its low volume.
Please check the connection between the Soundbar and other source devices, and try the following tips that may help improve the volume level.
1. Check the source volume. For example, if connected to a mobile phone using Bluetooth, increase the volume on the mobile phone.
2. If the Soundbar is connected to a TV thru HDMI, make sure to use the HDMI-ARC jack on the TV and select “External speakers” as the TV sound output.
3. Then check the TV for the audio output format sent to the Soundbar. Typical options are PCM, Dolby Digital, and Bitstream. Select the option that optimizes the sound from your source.
4. Change the SOUND MODE on the Soundbar by using the Soundbar’s remote. Select the appropriate mode for the individual room acoustics.
5. Turn on Dynamic Range Control. This is done by pressing and holding the SOUND MODE button on the remote control while the Soundbar is in standby mode.
I hope these tips help to enhance your audio enjoyment.

Somewhat disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound bar doesn’t perform as well as surround sound, obviously. But, sound quality hardly exceeds that of tv speaker. May be because of large open ceiling living room, but sound is lost.

Amazing till it stopped functioning.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This soundbar was amazing . The audio rich and clear and simulated surround sound even better when paired with the surround sound speakers. That was up until a couple of months ago when it stopped receiving audio through ARC. Tried replacing the HDMI cables to no avail. Now i am stuck with an expensive soundbar that no longer works.

Weak Center Channel, Can't Hear Dialogue
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Center channel is weak, dialogue sounds muffled. Must turn volume up very load to hear dialogue in tv shows/movies. Other volume, sound effects etc. is very loud in comparison. Customer has to constantly adjust volume to hear dialogue and turn down for everything else so they aren't blown away. Contacting Samsung support yielded no results. Samsung reps seemed unprofessional, offered no additional information or solutions to the issue. Glad I was able to return.
