First off, I have 4 other soundbar setups in my home and was very excited to try this Samsung gaming soundbar in my game room. I have 2 soundbars that are 3 to 4 times the cost of the Samsung, and I now want to replace them. The Samsung 5.1 gaming soundbar has the best 5.1 sound out of any of them, by far. It truly feels more wrapped around than my expensive top tier Bose and Focal soundbars. In movie watching, from lows to mids to highs, it all sounds great with only a hint of a flat EQ setting in about the 500 to 900 mhz range, some speech blends in. This may be because of the movies I tested it out on but it was slightly heard by me, but not my wife. Bass is deep and carries throughout the room with ease. Highs are set perfect, no tinny sounds, just crisp and clear. Now, the gaming, bring out the Xbox and hear it all. I left my headset off and used my standalone mic so I could really test the capabilities for the surround sound. It kills my other soundbars and came close to the same field of sound my 7.1 gaming system does, I was blown away. Now, lets be real, if I turn my 7.1 gaming setup way up, the soundbar has nothing on it. But, for late night playing at a normal volume while the kids are in bed, it is on par and I can hear everything the game was portraying, even the footsteps behind me. Hookup is a breeze, bluetooth and WiFi work as they should. Get this soundbar, I am getting another and replacing my family room one with one and throwing that top tier one in the garage for working on the car, its sad a $2000 system is being put out to pasture imo. Great job Samsung!!

Makes an immediate improvement to the sound of anything you’re watching. Whether it’s cable TV, video games or HD movies, this thing sounds amazing. Connectivity is very straightforward. I’m using the HDMI passthrough into the ARC HDMI channel on my TV and I’m using the Digital Audio output for my Xbox One. If I had one complaint about the system, it’s that I wish the system would recognize the input source from HDMI and automatically switch to the HDMI source. It doesn’t do that, so every time I want to watch TV, I have to use the supplied remote to manually switch the source to HDMI for TV. Once you do that, the TV or cable box remote is all you need, since the TV recognizes the external speakers and will control the volume. The sound is very clear, detailed and spacious. And it gets very loud. It has enough watts to fill any normal family room or basement viewing space. The system has great build quality as you’d expect from Samsung. The bass module is hefty but remains lightweight and easy to move and the sound bar is very hefty and will remain in place wherever you place it. It has a great footprint and rubberized bottom feet so once you place it it won’t move. It even comes with wall mounting hardware in the box if you need to mount below your TV. Viewing different audio sources (stereo, 5.1 DTS, etc.) the sound remains crystal clear. You feel as if you have a full surround sound setup. You can select from standard mode, true 5.1 surround and a Game mode. The Game mode really brings out the action and provides crystal clear details when playing games. I wish the bass was a little more noticeable. It has very good albeit subtle bass. Very tight and punchy but not overwhelming. You can adjust the bass level in both mix and level, but I wish it gave just a little bit more. With a good input source and a bass heavy mix it works great, but I’d love to be able to color in some bass when the source isn’t the best, and you really can’t do that. The bluetooth streaming works very well and easily pairs with my bluetooth devices. All in all the system is a huge improvement over standard TV speakers and will change your home viewing experience for the better.

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-N650 Soundbar System. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its low volume.

Please check the connection between the Soundbar and other source devices, and try the following tips that may help improve the volume level.

      1. Check the source volume. For example, if connected to a mobile phone using Bluetooth, increase the volume on the mobile phone.
      2. If the Soundbar is connected to a TV thru HDMI, make sure to use the HDMI-ARC jack on the TV and select “External speakers” as the TV sound output.
      3. Then check the TV for the audio output format sent to the Soundbar. Typical options are PCM, Dolby Digital, and Bitstream. Select the option that optimizes the sound from your source.
      4. Change the SOUND MODE on the Soundbar by using the Soundbar’s remote. Select the appropriate mode for the individual room acoustics.
      5. Turn on Dynamic Range Control. This is done by pressing and holding the SOUND MODE button on the remote control while the Soundbar is in standby mode.

    Good Sound Quality

I bought this along with the Samsung Wireless Rear Loud Speakers to get a nice surround sound in the living room. Though I am by far not an audiophile, I can say it is a step up from my old Bose 3-2-1 stereo. At least I do not need a receiver to operate because it connects directly to the television. Also, it looks sleek sitting underneath your tv; mine is a 75" so it slides perfectly underneath between the stands. Too bad the Samsung logo is facing upwards on the speaker where you cannot see it unless you hang it on the wall. But let's skip the ultra petty issues and get to the need-to-know stuff and opinions. Just note that you have to set your equalizer via the device so for those who are not tech savvy, don't think that the speakers have low sound quality. The soundbar itself has a very simplistic equalizer consisting of a Treble, Bass, and Audio Sync. Treble and bass have a setting ranging from -6 to +6 adjustment. It is not as in-depth as some consumers may expect, but as I mentioned earlier, you will have to make adjustments via the connected device itself to get that sound quality you're looking for. Some consumers previously mentioned that the bass is not all that powerful, which I do agree because I had to turn it up to +6 while leaving the Treble at roughly between 0 to +2. For what it's worth, I'd say it has a good sound quality and is a easy set up connecting your blue tooth devices from your phone, laptop, tv... heck even your smartwatch. In short, this soundbar can be wireless if you want to avoid wire clutter in the back. I have my PS4 connected directly to the soundbar so it enables me on the gaming console to have the Dolby sound. On that note, there is a "Game Mode" the speaker has, but honestly, I didn't hear much of a difference (again- not an audiophile by a mile marker). Therefore, I would prefer to leave it on standard mode if I had never bought the rear speakers. The biggest negative thing I am experiencing is that it sometimes powers itself on and connect when I turn on a paired device. I would have the soundbar off and it will turn itself on to connect with a device that is already on like a ghost powered my soundbar. Another incident is if I am watching TV with the soundbar on and I may turn on any paired device, it will divert to it, cutting off my sound from the tv. That can be very annoying. The remote is identical to the Samsung 4K UHD television with different functions. IE: Where the volume/channel buttons are on the tv remote, the subwoofer/volume button is in their place and their buttons are black instead of silver. It can be a bit confusing, but thankfully the buttons for this remote are black instead of silver. If you are playing a song for example on your tablet or computer, you can actually control the forward/pause/backward function with the remote. In addition, you don't have to be in the same room or aim the remote at the soundbar for it to function. I am not sure of its range, but I can assume that if you're living in a place ranging from a studio to a medium-sized house, you can be -just- about anywhere to operate it. To summarize, it's a decent soundbar, but do not expect that movie theater sound quality that you are hoping to pay for. It has a very simple set-up and equalizer for anybody to adjust. Pairing is very, very easy as it has a pairing button to search for your bluetooth device. However, be aware that your soundbar MAY connect itself to your device automatically while listening to something else. Or it may turn itself on when it was supposed to be off. Regardless of this issue, your remote can function as a media remote, especially if you want to skip, pause, or replay a song. Seeing the other soundbars listed here, I assume that this is a medium quality speaker

Great for the money, but has caveats.

Let me start by saying I've been dabbling in high end home audio since 1993 when I worked at a fairly high end store thru college. I do have a media room full of Rotel amps and Miller and Kreisel drivers, soon to be Atmos capable if the wife lets me! With that said, we just finished a loft in the house and we find ourselves in that space quite often watching TV at night. I wanted a sound bar to add a little bit to the room. We have a Bose ST300 5.1 system in our family room, and for being what it is, it's fantastic - but we didn't want the entire set up for this room and the Bose ST300 soundbar by itself is nothing spectacular. You NEED the sub to bring that system to life. I went Sonos this time to try it, and I was sorely disappointed. The Beam was not what I would have imagined at all. Sound was harsh, cinema was poorly processed and volume levels were not balanced at all. And the sub.. holy my lord, that thing is overpowering in a small space. Returned it. In comes the HW-N650. We got it on sale for $399. Which is a decent price, considering the Sonos Beam is the same price, and this system with the sub is far better for our application. We looked at the HW-MS650 with the 10" wireless sub, but decided against it for the N650. The positives - Flawless set up through our Samsung Q8F. Put the wall mounts up. Mounted the bar. Plugged the sub in. It was paired right away. 25 mins and we were watching a movie. Sound is bright, and lively. It's decent. It does a phenomenal job at sounding much bigger than it is. The sub is very well done. Extremely balanced, excels in cinema applications. Cons - While it sounds decent, the sound is over processed by the DSP. You can tell it's working overtime to create that giant sound stage that it does. Volume levels are inconsistent and certain sounds do get lost. (I don't know how Bose does this, but they have mastered it in the ST300). If you are a person who enjoys big booming bass in movies, this is not the sub for you. When you turn the woofer up, bass becomes muddled and messy sounding. It's overpowering at times. Leaving the sub volume alone is nice and balanced, lows are low and very tight and clean. This is NOT a setup for music. Once again, the DSP works overtime. It's very unnatural to listen to. This is a much better system for cinema applications. With all that said, for $399, this is a great piece to own. Excels in small spaces, and creates a huge sound stage as advertised. Sub is fantastic if the levels are left alone IMO. Set up was simple, almost brainless. I am going to add the wireless surrounds, I plan on keeping this system for a while. The DSP sound is one of the things that is just part of these soundbars trying to create big sounds from small drivers. It's part of how they work. (Once again, Bose does an incredible job at this.) Samsung has done a decent job with it not being to over processed (Like the Sonos was.). I notice it, but I can't imagine too many people would notice or even care quite honestly. This is a quality piece, Samsung did a fine job, and for $399, it's a great buy.
