Worst Purchase I have ever made, Total Junk!!!!

I purchase my Samsung home theater system Samsung HT-J5500W 5.1-Channel Smart Blu-ray Home Theater System as an open box with Best Buy. I was happy at first but then the sound went out if right front speaker after only 3 times using system. I called Samsung and went through a bunch of testing and didn't fix unit. I was sent a UPS label and boxed the whole system up ( what a pain ) and sent it to Samsung waited to week and finally got it back, Hook everything back up and still no sound out of right front. Called Samsung again and then boxed up again and sent it back again and waited another 2 weeks got it back and hooked it up and still no sound out of right front . I have changed speaker wires and have swapped speakers around and still not sound. At this point I was pretty upset with them . I called and requested refund and waited again a couple of weeks with no reply. Called again and was finally called back one evening and was told it was approved for full refund BUT it had to go for final approval at another dept. LOL. :( NOT. I am still waiting for them to refund my money. This has been going on since Dec of 2016 and it is now almost the end of Feb. 2017. Buyer Beware Do Not Buy This One You Will Br Sorry!!!! I will not buy another Samsung anything because there customer service is very poor !

Was really looking forward to this and my boyfriend (who is all about sound) was actually excited too. We found this at a great proce because it was on the open-box area and decided to take a chance. Pros: the sound quality is pretty good. The first night we purchased this, we watched Jurassic World and the surround sound was awesome considering this is a smaller theater system. We especially liked the bass. Also, set up was easy. Cons: Although the sound was great, we can tell that this would only last about a year, max. The L/R speakers sounded like they were cracking a bit already. Another thing is that at random times, the Wi-Fi surround sound speakers would fail to connect and stop working. This happened every time as we watched movies and I have to tell you that it was frustrating. Lastly, another problem we had with the Wi-Fi speakers was that for some strange reason, they would not work whenever we played music. Again, this was an open box item so maybe that had a lot to do with it. Hopefully this helps and you find what you're looking for.

Read some reviews. Some bad some good. I am a tech savvy person. No expert but I can easily connect speaker wires. Know how to use Bluetooth. And even re-image my home computers. Just so you know I'm not a regular dude. This system is horrible. The Bluetooth worked only twice. Hasn't worked since. I've tried numerous devices. Both Android and iOS. These very same devices connect to other Bluetooth with zero issues. I performed the system update on the Samsung. It's current. The speakers randomly work. I've quadruple checked the connections. I've ran the speaker set up. Funny thing. The speaker icons and the "noise" aren't synced anymore! So.... just to make sure the kiddos or dumb cat didn't mess anything up. I re-verified the proper color coded connections. Yep. Still correct. Now, 3 of the speakers aren't working. Even when the two rear ones were working, they were as loud as the cheap @&& headphones you get free with your phones..... I'm 100% not satisfied but I am 100% going to return this. When I called Best Buy. They said they've had quite a few returns on this. Thankfully I bought the extra protection. So..... kudos to me for that! :) Stay away folks. Samsung should stick to making phones. Wait, that's another topic not fire here. I mean, for here.

While this item looks nice and has great sound & picture, it is awful. I purchased this item & straight out of the box I had problems. The DVD would freeze & the unit would become unresponsive. Without any actual buttons on the unit, the only way to get passed this was to unplug the unit, wait for it to reset & start over. Mid film. The DVD was brand new, so it wasn't a case of a scratched DVD. This happened repeatedly & sometimes needed to be unplugged & reset twice before it allowed me to eject the DVD or CD. I exchanged it for the same model, and still had the same issues. I instead went with a Yamaha A/V receiver paired with a Sony Blue Ray player & Yamaha surround speakers. Yes, I paid about $300 more (though Yamaha offers different price points for their receivers, depending on what features you are looking for), but the quality of the sound & picture is much better, as is the quality of the items themselves. Able to stream Spotify, Apple Airplay, Bluetooth with the Yamaha unit with much clearer sound & no distortion. An infinitely better product that's available at different price points. Do Not Buy This Samsung Home Theatre!!!!!

Firmware update 1012.5 disables center spkr & sub

Worked great for about 2 years until a firmware update disabled the center speaker and subwoofer. Since it was more than 1 yr after my purchase, it was not under warranty. I spent an hour with tech support who really do not have any good advice or solutions to fix an issue that was caused by their update from 1011 to 1012.5. All of my speakers worked fine with youtube, dvd, cd, thumbdrive, and phone via bluetooth. I noticed that 5.1 was disabled on Netflix, and tested my sound on all options previously mentioned prior to doing the firmware update via USB since it was not doing it via the online option. I had previously updated to the 1011.0 update with no issues. Unless you have purchased extended warranty on this equipment, you will be stuck with low grade stereo sound after the firmware update. If you enjoy taking equipment in for repairs and or wasting time performing useless fixes with tech support, then this is something you might want to purchase. Otherwise, spend your money on another company's product.

Best Buy Store 1044 in Las Vegas, NV

Issue is with this store in Las Vegas and not so much the product itself. Purchased a Samsung 1000 watt Blu Ray DVD home theater system for 249.99 last week. Set it up Saturday Nov 26 and central speaker did not work. On set up replaced with our old Sony speaker and central worked. Assumed defect so at 5 pm 11/26 returned to this store in open box and exchanged for one that works, When we packed exchange we inadvertently left DVD "Divergent"in player so returned to this store 2 hours after exchange at 7 pm. Spotted our return box still on customer service floor but now sealed and apparently inspected and ready for resale. CSR opened the sealed box for us but DVD was not there. Explanation was Geek squad probably tossed our DVD in trash. Might be true or not true as no way to know. All we know is that the DVD was definitely in the player when returned. It was easy for BB store to know a customer they can trace left a personal item but did nothing to really explain or accomodate. Request manager contact from this store. 702-750-2211

    Not worth the money

Installed the system and did a sound test and all speakers work fine. Then I went to the radio, TV and regular DVD and only had sound on the front two speakers. Checked and re-checked all wiring and settings. Did a hard re-start and it made no difference. Talked with Samsung tech support 3 times and still could not get them to work. Well it was finally told to me that it will ONLY play surround sound from a DVD that produces a 5.1 surround sound output. In other words I will never get surround sound from the TV, radio or standard DVD. This makes this unit absolutely worthless to me. I have a Panasonic unit that is probably 10 years old and it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Can't play blu-ray but at least I can play the radio in surround sound. Can't return it now so I'm stuck with a $350 entertainment system that only plays on two speakers. See if you can find that in the fine print. Samsung made a junk unit.

Sound won't play through all the speakers

    Posted
    Chel

We hooked up our system only to find out the sound would not play through the right front and right rear speakers. When running the test, all the speakers pass but nothing is coming through the right ones while watching tv. I have tried contacting Samsung 5 different times with the last one promising a call back but I never received one. If someone doesn't give me an answer to correct this problem, I will be sending it back and if I get a different one it will most definitely not be a Samsung.

    Speakers Don't Work

    Here2Buy

Did my research and found this one. It got great reviews, so off to the story I went. Got it home set up took about an hour including going through the settings which was the timely part. Ran a check on all the speakers to find only the right rear, and sub woofer work, and nothing at all comes out of the rest. Yippee....spend $300 on something that you instantly have to troubleshoot. Changed all the sound levels on all speakers to high...nothing. Went around and unplugged then plugged everything back in....nothing. Call Samsung support....who ran the same test I did....nothing. Back in the box it goes, then back to the store I go. Needless to say I don't know which one to get now. Wish I could get back the time spent on all of this. What a waste.

    Incompatible with some TVs

    Posted
    ericb

Would not work with my LG HDTV (TV says "invalid format"). Samsung tech support gave me some nonsense about the aspect ratio and frame rate of my TV being incompatible with the HT-J5500W. The TV works fine with everything else I have plugged into it (old JVC system that I was replacing, Apple TV, Verizon DVR, laptop, etc., all using the same HDMI cable) When I returned the Samsung system, the Best Buy customer service rep said Samsung deliberately makes some of their products incompatible with other vendors but that Samsung won't admit to it when you call them. I exchanged it for a Sony BDV-E3100 which works fine with the same TV.

    Extremely Disappointed

    Posted
    SeriouslyMad

Seriously? Not a single digital input source? What's the point? I was sold this product with the understanding that this would be a great upgrade from my current Samsung Home Theater that is several years old. I was sadly mistaken that this is a serious downgrade. My 5 yr old system has 2 HDMI inputs along with composite. This has NO digital input, 2 channel analog input and pretty much only good for a glorified disc player. Since Samsung SMART services are extremely slow, i stopped using the streaming services via the Samsung servers so even that is pointless on this product. Terrible step back Samsung!

Best buy rates open box items as excellent, good etc. I bought this item rated "excellent" condition, to me that means didn't require opening the box and inspect before leaving store - looks like thigns are different these days, quality of team doing return item checks and open item processing is going down. I recommend all open box items to be verified by customer before leaving store. This box contained a different series of blue ray player(with scratches and dent), got one part missing(wireless rear unit), center speaker was a different series too. I am returning this product immediately.

    Needs optical cable to work

    Jeremy

Well not play any disk without optical cable. Put in disk and they play for 10 seconds and you can't bypass in options settings unless you are quick (10 seconds quick ) i was disappoint because it took me 3 hours to get pass the bypass in settings because system kept resetting even in the settings without an optical cable hooked up to cable box (my cable box had no optical cable plug )The speaker wires got to be the smallest gauge i have ever seen and is not set up to use your own speaker wire. I am going to return and just buy a receiver and not worry about any optical cable , or supper cheap speaker wires

Since the box for the product and the online description stated bluetooth was built-in, I assumed that meant I could my bluetooth headphones. Once installed, I could not get my headphones to work with the product. I called Samsung customer service and they told me that, notwithstanding what the box and the online product description stated, the product was not designed to work with bluetooth headphones. Here's the kicker, there is NO HEADPHONE JACK on the product, so I can't use a bluetooth dongle to make it work with my bluetooth headphones and I cannot even use my old fashioned corded headphones. RIDICULOUS!

I spent almost 3 hours on the phone 1st with Samsung because I can’t get the tv volume to play thru dvd/receiver. I had it hooked to a LG tv, of course Samsung says it was an LG issue. Call LG still couldn’t get it to work. I then hooked it up to my new 65 inch Samsung smart tv. Still no volume, Call Samsung again, still nothing, changed hdmi cables, attached optical cable, still nothing, now Samsung says its the cable box. Not. I’m taking it back, I’m fed up with Samsung. Very disappointed

My 6 year old Panasonic theater set up went out on me so I was looking to replace it. We have a Samsung TV in anopen concept living room / kitchen. I didn't want a sound bar as the room is too big for that. I was extremely disappointed once this system was hooked up. (Hook up was very easy.) It sounded no better than the speakers in the TV. There was no bass from the sub at all. I checked, double checked and triple checked to make sure it was hooked up correctly and it was. The sound was not good. I returned the unit for a different brand and model and am much happier.

The subwoofer was very weak. The rear wireless speakers are almost worthless and when they did work on DVD's, the sound was very weak. The center speaker quit working after two months. The system should be a 5.1, actually, it is a 2 speaker system. I had a 6 yr. old Philips home theater and it was great until a power surge wiped it out. Now, I will be looking for a Philips sound system. I expected more from Samsung, this is my first and last Samsung product! Very disappointed!!!

    Worked Great For 9 Months

This is an easy system to set up. The system sound at max is still low as compared to other systems. Worked for 9 months then started getting a loud buzzing sound from the receiver. Apparently some part inside went bad - it was not coming from the speakers. Sony would not warrant the work since this was a gift and all I had was the shipping packing list from UPS. I would not recommend any Sony Product based the fact they will not stand behind their product. I would recommend you purchase the Best Buy extended warranty if you want to take a chance with this system.

Poor performance. Bought because rear speakers were wired to a wireless receiver and could be hidden behind a couch. This replaced another theatre in a box by Panasonic that worked well until it broke. This system did not perform. Rear speakers could only be heard if pressed to your ear despite being at maximum volume. Set up was by Geek Squad. Furthermore, it is supposed to have Bluetooth but it did not work. Bite the bullet and invest in a system that works. Wasted a lot of time.

I setup my system and it worked great for a week. The system output amazing sound and bass. After a week the system crashed and presented a FAN NG error. I thought the fan was dirty so I looked at the air intake to ensure there was no visible dust. System no longer works. Stay away from this system and get something that works.
