Great TV, but not the best value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thing I deem worthy of mentioning is the one connect box. This TV, and most higher end Samsung TVs in general, does not have any inputs on the back of the TV, instead it has one jack to plug in this little box (About the size of a power strip) into the back of the TV. This box contains all of the inputs, including four HDMI jacks, an Optical out, two USB 2.0, and an ANT in. Now, this thing makes my setup extremely easy to use, as I don't have to pull the TV out everytime I want to plug something in, so I personally love this thing. However, I should qualify this by saying I have my TV on an enclosed entertainment center, and not mounted on an empty wall, so this little box may make life difficult for those wanting an empty wall with no visible wires. It is 120 Hz native, and can superimpose up to 240, so motion on screen is extremely smooth, and produces very little motion blur trails. Input lag is pretty low, so this is a great TV to game on, especially if you recently invested in an Xbox One X, or PS4 Pro. It supports HDR10, so colors and contrasts are pretty great, and certainly better than many cheap 4k panels out there, but keep in mind... It is neither a QLED, Nanocell, or OLED, and there are many other TVs that support HDR10 for less money. This, in my mind, is the biggest downfall of this otherwise fantastic TV. I managed to snag an open box deal for 1000$ when I got mine, but if I were prepared to spend 1300$ on a TV, I'd just wait a few weeks, and invest an extra 300$ on an LG OLED, since they produce MUCH better contrast, better colors, and support both HDR10 AND Dolby Vision. Even if you're not willing to fork out 1600$ for an OLED or QLED, the LG Super UHD TVs produce better colors, contrasts, and better viewing angles since they use their nanocell tech (Essentially their version of QLED) Bottom Line: This is a fantastic TV, with lots of great features, but unless you find a killer open box deal that brings the price down to less than 1100, it's extremely hard to justify buying this TV when you can save up an extra month and get a vastly superior OLED or QLED, especially when you can spend less money and get a better Nanocell TV from LG. Great TV, but not the best value. Do yourself a favor, and save up a little longer for an OLED, or save some money and get an LG SuperUHD, or even the MU7000 if you're willing to sacrifice the native 120Hz refresh rate.

Crap
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV was over 1000 dollars and is acting up on me. I am out of warranty so I was suggested to just buy a new TV. When I called into Geek Squad for support they didn't even see a record of my purchase. I then went onto my profile and see it here. Disguested at how crappy this TV is. I have lines running from left to right on the screen and it is about 2 years old.

No gain
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased to upgrade 55” 3D LG that is not 4K or HDR. I kept the old set nearby, played with picture settings, used my Xbox One S and other sources and I do not see any improvement. In fact I feel the old set, 7 years old looks better. I like the remote and device controls, the tv has a great physical appearance, but I am returning as I am disappointed with the picture quality.

Close to the TV a 4K adopter deserves.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to start by saying the decision to buy the TV was made after years of keeping an eye on the market with UHD, 4k, and HDR formats and picture quality changes. Finally deciding to jump aboard now that the 4k resolution has been justifiable with a significant jump in not only numerical value over HD (1080p) but in terms of refinement via display tech (screen quality) and picture quality (color range, detail in image, etc). I am a former owner of one of the very first 1080p LED televisions (not LCD). This is all to give you some context. The Samsung MU8000 has largely been a great purchase. The design in both the physical package, the build quality, and qualities of life items such as the remote design and smart tv features make this TV feel truly premium. The picture quality after some setting changes is what you'd expect to see after being impressed in the showroom, the colors, clarity in the details on screen, and smoothness of the cycle rate (this tv is 120hertz) is all a phenomenal package for someone looking to jump on the 4k train. All in all this is a good tv, design quality and image quality are superb, however there is a reason I have decided to return this television and score it with a 3 of 5 stars here. The peak brightness is proverbial fly in my ointment. All the positives this TV has is undone by the fact that this TV leaves something to be desired in just how bright it gets. Brightness is very important in 4k HDR because you want the image to not only be clear with detail (4K resolution) and be lush in it's color (HDR) you want the image to not be drowned by what seems to be a subtle shadow. A small caveat here is that if you're not someone who watches a ton of high quality content (high end gaming, 4k films) you may not notice but as I am gaming on an Xbox One X and watch a lot of films I absolutely notice. I'll give some examples of the brightness I'm referring to first using the new MAD MAX film "Fury Road". In the movie the sun out and very bright, almost like a desert at noon quality. If you've seen the film or even look up YouTube footage one can clearly not the brightness of the film. In the Samsung mu8000 it feels like the whole film takes place on a cloudy hot day. Another example is in the video game Gears of War 4 on the "Raid" mission that takes place fairly early on in the game (you can look it up on YouTube as well to get the idea). In this mission the sun out, no clouds, and very bright as I've actually already played this game on my Samsung LED (my previous TV). On the Samsung MU8000, again, it feels like a subtle cloud is obstructing the whole scene. Again, this is not something 100% obvious but it was enough to consistently pull me out of experiencing films and games, especially if I've previously seen/played them because I already know what the brightness of the scene SHOULD look like. And it wasn't like I was fixed on this issue in my mind. I would forget about it in darker scenes of games and movies for it to only become absolutely obvious to me in the next outdoors scene. I want to stress this may simply not be apparent to you, as an example my sister in law was blown away since what she has is a low end model from 4 years ago. This TV should serve you well if you're looking to make the jump to 4k but then I couldn't possibly recommend it wholeheartedly seeing as a far better TV is now within $100 of this one. The TV I now went with after returning this one is the Sony X900e. Hope this information helps you out seeing as most reviews do not cite this as a concern or don't emphasis just how much it is prevalent in this TV. Another thing to note is that at an angle this issue seems to worsen, I was sitting about 45° from center of the TV and noticed the image was now even darker. That's it for me. Good luck on your purchase.

Awesome 4K TV!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this TV the other day at my local best buy. I upgraded from a 2008/2009 Samsung 1080P TV, so this was a huge step up. As a gamer the picture is phenomenal, and the menu system is nice and organized. Not sure why people are hating on this TV so much, but I can assure you it's worth the money I spent on it! I'm using the TV's sound system and it sounds great. At times I think I have a surround system. I paired this TV with the Sony UBP-X800 4K player. The movies I've played on it all look very sharp, and I've heard it's the best one on the market. Overall this TV is fantastic! Great buy

Great picture; Terrible interface
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had a Samsung in the past and so chose this model; rated highly by Consumer Reports in its class. The picture was great. We returned it though because the interface to find content was dreadful. Frustrating to use because it was over-complicated and it took to many clicks to find what we wanted to watch. It also kept forgetting what the name of the cable box was (we have at&t). I reset the cable box 3 times to get it to show AT&T on the screen then finally gave up. In addition, because my husband cannot see well, is legally blind, we used the accessibility function that would speak the name of what was clicked on. It used a volume MANY levels higher than the TV volume (he is blind, not hard of hearing!) and that was very jarring. We returned it and brought the Roku TV that The Wirecutter recommend and a model that sadly Best Buy does not carry. The Roku TV picture is quite good, the interface is incredibly easy and the accessibility function is excellent and easy to customize to the disabled users need.

Alright...But
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to assemble. Good Picture right out of the box. Using movie mode setting for our perceived best viewing. We do get blurring pending the scene; some tweaking needed pending the program you are watching or changing to. Disappointing that for the price tweaking is needed. Didn’t have to do that with my two older flat screens, new Technology I guess. Negatives: Screen is glass so during any mid to dark scene you see the glare from room table lamps clearly on the screen. Not as bad as the OLED we returned but it is there. Most people I know keep a lamp on in the room while watching TV, so you are going to see the lamp reflection. And this was to be Samsung’s most matt screen. There is no connection for an older VCR\DVD player using RCA jacks, yet made it clear to sales of the equipment we had. Best Buy’s after purchase comment yesterday was to return the TV and buy something else. No attempt to assist me in getting a cable or adapter to hookup the VCR, very disappointed. Should have purchased the Sony.
