Close to the TV a 4K adopter deserves.

I want to start by saying the decision to buy the TV was made after years of keeping an eye on the market with UHD, 4k, and HDR formats and picture quality changes. Finally deciding to jump aboard now that the 4k resolution has been justifiable with a significant jump in not only numerical value over HD (1080p) but in terms of refinement via display tech (screen quality) and picture quality (color range, detail in image, etc). I am a former owner of one of the very first 1080p LED televisions (not LCD). This is all to give you some context. The Samsung MU8000 has largely been a great purchase. The design in both the physical package, the build quality, and qualities of life items such as the remote design and smart tv features make this TV feel truly premium. The picture quality after some setting changes is what you'd expect to see after being impressed in the showroom, the colors, clarity in the details on screen, and smoothness of the cycle rate (this tv is 120hertz) is all a phenomenal package for someone looking to jump on the 4k train. All in all this is a good tv, design quality and image quality are superb, however there is a reason I have decided to return this television and score it with a 3 of 5 stars here. The peak brightness is proverbial fly in my ointment. All the positives this TV has is undone by the fact that this TV leaves something to be desired in just how bright it gets. Brightness is very important in 4k HDR because you want the image to not only be clear with detail (4K resolution) and be lush in it's color (HDR) you want the image to not be drowned by what seems to be a subtle shadow. A small caveat here is that if you're not someone who watches a ton of high quality content (high end gaming, 4k films) you may not notice but as I am gaming on an Xbox One X and watch a lot of films I absolutely notice. I'll give some examples of the brightness I'm referring to first using the new MAD MAX film "Fury Road". In the movie the sun out and very bright, almost like a desert at noon quality. If you've seen the film or even look up YouTube footage one can clearly not the brightness of the film. In the Samsung mu8000 it feels like the whole film takes place on a cloudy hot day. Another example is in the video game Gears of War 4 on the "Raid" mission that takes place fairly early on in the game (you can look it up on YouTube as well to get the idea). In this mission the sun out, no clouds, and very bright as I've actually already played this game on my Samsung LED (my previous TV). On the Samsung MU8000, again, it feels like a subtle cloud is obstructing the whole scene. Again, this is not something 100% obvious but it was enough to consistently pull me out of experiencing films and games, especially if I've previously seen/played them because I already know what the brightness of the scene SHOULD look like. And it wasn't like I was fixed on this issue in my mind. I would forget about it in darker scenes of games and movies for it to only become absolutely obvious to me in the next outdoors scene. I want to stress this may simply not be apparent to you, as an example my sister in law was blown away since what she has is a low end model from 4 years ago. This TV should serve you well if you're looking to make the jump to 4k but then I couldn't possibly recommend it wholeheartedly seeing as a far better TV is now within $100 of this one. The TV I now went with after returning this one is the Sony X900e. Hope this information helps you out seeing as most reviews do not cite this as a concern or don't emphasis just how much it is prevalent in this TV. Another thing to note is that at an angle this issue seems to worsen, I was sitting about 45° from center of the TV and noticed the image was now even darker. That's it for me. Good luck on your purchase.

It took me over 6 months in order to speculate the remote. IMHO Samsung is using the same tactic they use on their smartphones. That is to produce a polished t-u-r-d and present it as gods greatest gift to mankind. Either way its up on the wall and I have to eat it. First issue out of the box. Cable management and layout of the onelink connect box. The ethernet port is treated unfairly in this layout. Basically its routed on the other side of the tv and is left to hang outside the other side of the tv. second layout issue. is the optical cable. not everyone person in the world has a soundbar, with that... a soundbar with an optical input on the side. In my case I have a bose 3-2-1 series III that with the one connect box on top sometimes is a balancing trick since the box itself is so light and the optical cable weight has it sometime hangs a bit off sided. I really wonder why ethernet was not integrated into the connect box now that I'm on the issue. Third and biggest issue. The software. Ad ridden and clunky. When I watch tv, I want an experience that negates all if not most of negatives in my life. hence why I splurged on this. I played with the Sony Smart TV's but could not stand the clunky sluggish always crashing interface. The Samsung UI has not ever crashed, but is lacking a lot. I cannot bypass the flamboyant autodetection on the HDMI ports. If you plug in and remove devices like I used to before buying this TV you might not be so happy. I also have to try and modify each remote to control both the bose and the device... For someone who can make a frontend for many cloud based apps, a network cable and program a vcr... Yeah this is better said than done. Netflix there is no way to jump directly to the home screen thats okay. I had an earlier model from 2011ish that had an amazing screen, but got really hot. I someway somehow had the capability to stream the incoming video from the tv to my Samsung Note tablet. Here there is No PIP, nor no real streamline way of even sending video to the tv from a tablet, or from a computer. Windows 10 users will be happy as you can remotely project to this TV. As far as receiving back video and PIP, as i mentioned earlier don't bother. browser for internet, and local files is clunky. There is no capability for creating list, or deleting certain videos. My place is highly unfiltered, and I'd hate to scar the kids who clicked on elmo to hear him in a tone they shouldn't know about for the next 10+ years. Video is 7 out of 10. I believe the KS series did a much better job. I wished I had bought it. but hesitated.. Im not sure who else i can look into since Sony and Samsung are lacking, and OLED has a sort life span. i accept the choice but expected better

So the reviews I read on this tv were all great but I haven’t had the greatest experience with it. I’ve had the tv since Christmas ‘17. I liked the overall look since the screen is mostly all you see. I also like the 4K, HDR ability that would work well with my Xbox One X and all the 4K movies I would be watching on it. There are times when the picture looks brilliant and I’m so happy with the tv but more times than not the hdr feature makes my games, movies and regular tv shows darker. Even putting the brightness to the max it is extremely dark. The inconsistency in how vibrant colors should look compared to what they do is disappointing. I’m constantly messing with the settings to make it look nicer for friends and family that come over to watch a soccer match/ basketball game. I remember asking the individual who sold me on buying this tv if a room with lots of sunlight would be good with this tv and he assured me there wouldn’t be any issues. Wrong. For the price of the tv at the time I would have thought it would be better than what it is. The smart features are great and I like how it automatically connects and recognizes new devices. If you saw my tv you would not assume it was a newer tv. Some of this might be related to the Apple TV 4K, but goodness it shouldn’t be such a struggle to make the picture look great. By the time I was ready to take the time I was ready to take the tv back, it was past warranty. If the floor experts weren’t yes men and actually said, “you know what, I’ll have to ask someone else if it’s a good tv for that type of room.” I might have had a better tv.

When my ten-year old 46" Samsung TV began to get lines coming up from the bottom of the screen, I decided it was time to start looking for a new one. I loved my Samsung so thought I would start there. After doing some research, I decided this was the TV for me. I went to Best Buy and compared it to The Sony BR 55" 900E. They looked very similar and since I had good luck with my old Samsung, I decided to stick with them. The set up was easy. Our old Harmony remote was programmed for our Samsung TV and I didn't need to do much to get that working well. BUT when I started watching the TV I was not happy. The colors were so intense they didn't look natural. The beautiful color was what I liked about our old Samsung, but these just didn't look right. Faces looked sunburned. I first attempted to adjust by taking some the red out and adding a little green. On some stations that looked ok, but then I would have to adjust every time I changed the channel. After reading more online I found a site that gave a very detailed guide for calibrating this specific model TV. It was very helpful and improved the color issues by 75%, but I still wasn't really happy and realized I was never going to be happy with this TV. So I began reading more reviews and found there were others who felt the same way. The Sony 900E seemed to keep popping up as a better alternative. As much as I dislike returning items, I decided it had to be done. Best Buy was great and came and picked up the Samsung and delivered the Sony for me. Set up on the Sony was a little more complicated, but not bad. The picture on the Sony right out of the box was amazing. No more weird color issues, just a great picture. So as sorry as I am to have to say this, although the Samsung TV is still a nice TV, I would have to go with the Sony when comparing these two models. Hope this may be helpful to someone considering these two options.

.....I had to take it back to Best Buy. The ARC feature simply wasn't working the way it was supposed to. I have a Sony HT-CT370 that is perfectly functional and has worked fine with multiple TVs that have ARC capabilities. (Before anyone asks, I switched out HDMI cables.) Upon a fresh power-on, the TV recognized all devices and showed everything being connected (including the sound bar), but gave me no sound. The only way to get sound, was to go into the settings, disable and re-enable HDMI-CEC (Anynet+ I believe Samsung calls it?), and then switch audio device to TV speakers, and then BACK to the sound bar. This is non-negotiable for me, a $1,200 TV should do something my $300 Black Friday Hisense does without issue. Best Buy agreed, I took it in to be tested and they said they'd send me another one. NOW, having said all that, things I enjoyed: - Tizen OS is possibly the most intuitive TV OS I've used. Includes all "major" streaming apps. I added Plex and HBO Now apps from the app store. if I HAD a cable company that supported the OS, I'm sure live TV integration would be excellent. (Suddenlink's fault, not Samsung). - Picture quality on 4K / HDR content is great. Could be brighter. - Input lag for a TV at this resolution was excellent for gaming. - OneConnect Mini is cool, wish the ethernet port was on the box instead of the TV. - Remote is great, took some getting used to, but great. Overall, I'd give this TV a 4/5 if ARC would've worked. The Best Buy employee tried to talk me into an exchange for a Sony X900E (same price), but the smart interface and remote just seemed way behind the curve to me. My replacement is on its way, and if it works without issue, I'll be happy. If I have a problem like this again, definitely exchanging for X900E (but I really don't want to). Crossing my fingers and hoping replacement works fine.

    Great picture; Terrible interface

We have had a Samsung in the past and so chose this model; rated highly by Consumer Reports in its class. The picture was great. We returned it though because the interface to find content was dreadful. Frustrating to use because it was over-complicated and it took to many clicks to find what we wanted to watch. It also kept forgetting what the name of the cable box was (we have at&t). I reset the cable box 3 times to get it to show AT&T on the screen then finally gave up. In addition, because my husband cannot see well, is legally blind, we used the accessibility function that would speak the name of what was clicked on. It used a volume MANY levels higher than the TV volume (he is blind, not hard of hearing!) and that was very jarring. We returned it and brought the Roku TV that The Wirecutter recommend and a model that sadly Best Buy does not carry. The Roku TV picture is quite good, the interface is incredibly easy and the accessibility function is excellent and easy to customize to the disabled users need.

Easy to assemble. Good Picture right out of the box. Using movie mode setting for our perceived best viewing. We do get blurring pending the scene; some tweaking needed pending the program you are watching or changing to. Disappointing that for the price tweaking is needed. Didn’t have to do that with my two older flat screens, new Technology I guess. Negatives: Screen is glass so during any mid to dark scene you see the glare from room table lamps clearly on the screen. Not as bad as the OLED we returned but it is there. Most people I know keep a lamp on in the room while watching TV, so you are going to see the lamp reflection. And this was to be Samsung’s most matt screen. There is no connection for an older VCR\DVD player using RCA jacks, yet made it clear to sales of the equipment we had. Best Buy’s after purchase comment yesterday was to return the TV and buy something else. No attempt to assist me in getting a cable or adapter to hookup the VCR, very disappointed. Should have purchased the Sony.

I have purchased only Samsung TV's, however this Samsung MU8000 4K, I would not purchase again. I do not like the one connect cable box. I would prefer it to be on the back of the TV. I have my TV on a stand, and I do not like what legs that are on either side of the TV. Buying this TV with the 240 motion is a waste of money. If I had known there was hardly any difference between the 120 and the 240, I would have bought the 65" Samsung with the better support in the middle of the TV for it to be on a stand. I have 3 other SAMSUNG TV's which I like, but I do not like this TV at all. It takes awhile to find out if you are going to like a TV, and after spending a lot of money on this TV, I can honestly say I wish I would have taken it back. The only good thing I can say is that the color is good, but it is also good on my other Samsung TV's.

I wanted and tried to really like this TV as it had a really good picture quality but it didn’t look for play well with my home theater receiver and I ultimately gave up trying to keep things recognized by the TV after initial setup. I think it stemmed from a technical conflict betwin the “one connect” smart hub that ultimately was just an extra step between my receiver and the TV that caused headaches so I had to return it. Probably would’ve been a different experience and outcome if I wasn’t using a receiver and everything was going straight into the one connect smart hub but honestly I just don’t really like that particular feature and would prefer to go straight into the TV with typical hookups instead.

I had a Sony Bravia that was about 6 years old and the quality picture is better but I do notice a lag when watching TV. The brightness changes on its own from time to time also. For gaming it pretty good no lag at all. I have to have many things hooked up to it, we talking cable box, Xbox one, PS4, Switch, PC, AppleTV, and snes classic which all need HDMI ports and we are only allowed 4 so I purchased a multi hdmi port adaptor to have 4 go into 1 to make room but it will not transfer audio tested on other TVs and works fine so I’m thinking it has to do with the small external box that is needed to connected HDMI inputs. Also apps crash from time to time and it’s a pain to get them to work again.

I splurged on a replacement TV with extras to simplify life without cable. I use a digital antenna and various streaming services instead. I had hoped that the Smart TV would make switching from broadcast to web based apps more seamless and then nullify the need for a separated Apple TV. However I find that more often than not the TV itself can’t connect to the WiFi although I can access the same content on my Apple TV. So I don’t think it’s my WiFi. The guide function worked at first and now displays “no info” for all networks, but I can see the current program info when I flip through the channels. While all that is frustrating the TV still looks great.

Bought the TV at Best Buy and had the Geek Squad install It The picture is great and the sound is good for the bedroom. The TV has lost its picture a few times. When I put the TV on the screen has no picture and says check power connection but the TV does in fact have power just no picture. The first time it happened I shut the TV and put it back on and it was fine. The second time it happened I unplugged the two power cords, waited a minute or two and replugged the cords. The TV rebooted and was fine. If it happens again I will call the Geek Squad to come and look at it. This is definitely not acceptable. This TV was I installed less than a month ago.

The tv is ok, the back panel is better than the ks8000. But no quantum dots for a great picture like the ks. Rtings.com gave this tv a 7.8 i beleive and the ks 8.2. For its retail price of $1499.99 i think its too much when last years model the ks8000 its a better choice and its going alot cheaper since its last years model. I took this tv back and bought the ks8000 for $999.99. I'd still recommend it but if you can get the ks it would be a better purchase.

So we bought this TV for 1200ish dollars on a whim. It looked great in store and the picture was amazing. We get it home, set it up, and the picture was just as great as it was at the store. Then... something made a quick motion on the screen and it was choppy.. We've adjusted settings and even tried it in auto motion hoping it would help. It didn't.. So the only way we can keep it from glitching during fast paced scenes is by having it in game mode. Which is OK, but you lose the clarity of picture. So that's all I've got.

We purchased this television on Black Friday. I was impressed of the way it was packaged. I was impressed as how easy it was to set up. And I was very pleased as how good and clear and sharp the picture we received from this TV. The only reason why I gave it a three star rating is because we found out that the TV was defective we would turn it off and with an intermittent length of time it would turn back on by itself. Other than that I would highly recommend this tv set. We have not yet taken the TV back that will be another review.

They built this TV design specifically to show off the new idea about making it look like there are no wires sticking out of the back of the TV, but then they go and make you attach a big thick long wire that is connected to a big heavy power bar and another wire connected to a box that has all the plugs for accessories .....their design idea for hiding the wires was good but then they added more bigger wires to stick out the back instead.....made no sense to me.

This TV is overall pretty good. 4K and HDR both make a marked difference, smart functions are very smooth, remote is nice. My only issue with this TV is when you put it in Game Mode to remove input lag, you get occasional flickering red lines throughout the screen. This is very noticeable. If you're looking to buy this TV for 4K gaming, I would suggest buying another TV, and perhaps another brand. Several Samsung TVs also suffer from the flickering lines in game mode.

GREAT PICTURE! COMES WITH A 'BOX' PLUGS INTO THE TV THEN YOU PLUG THE HDMI CABLES/USB INTO THIS INSTEAD OF TRYING TO PLUG INTO THE BACK/SIDE OF THE TV, THIS IS A GREAT FEATURE. NOT HAPPY THAT THE TV DOES NOT SWIVEL, NEVER THOUGHT TO CHECK THIS OUT PRIOR TO PURCHASE. THE TV MENU IS OKAY BUT DOES NOT HAVE A LOT OF FEATURES AND IS NOT VERY "CUSTOMIZIABLE"! OVER ALL IT IS A NICE TV.

THIS IS A NICE TV....I STRONGLY FEEL THE ADVERTISING FOR IT IS FALSE.IT IS NOT A 55 INCH TV,ONLY BECOMING A 55 INCH TV, IF YOU HAVE HIGH DEF CHANNELS/PREIMUM PAID FOR CHANNELS.....OTHERWISE YOU ONLY SEE HALF OF THE PICTURE YOU ARE PAYING FOR.WE DID NOT UNDERSTAND THIS WHEN WE BOUGHT IT.NOT EVERY PERSON IS A WHIZARD AT ELECTRONICS,OLDER PEOPLE NEED MORE INFO BY PATIENT EMPLOYEES.

    Just OK

This TV has a nice picture. Deep dark blacks and plenty of options to customize the picture to suit your needs. My biggest complaint is that if you are not directly sitting in front of it the picture quality suffers from even just a slight off center viewing angle. I will keep it but wish Samsung delivered a better experience on off center viewing.
