Great TV if you're not a nit nitpicker

I owned a Panasonic 55" 3D plasma TV for years - it was great, but was starting to show it's age and after it died I did a lot of research. I didn't want to spend $5000 on a TV, and though I know the LG OLED and Samsung QLED are much better pictures, just moving to 4K and HDR would be enough of a step up for me right now. After a lot of online research, I settled on Samsung and went to Best Buy with the intention to find last year's model KS8000, which is a lot of the same as this MU8000 and with a couple features the newer model doesn't do as well. It's also cheaper. However, Best Buy no longer offers the installation on older models, and the KS8000 is quickly going out of stock. I considered both the 65 and 55 inch models before settling on the 55 inch, since that's what we had before. Best Buy ordering and delivery is simply the best! Sales associates know their stuff and the delivery guys have always been top-notch. The warranty is a great deal, but I did pass this time for better or worse. I paid an extra $15 so they would haul away my old bricked plasma, and it's SO worth it. The only negative about the delivery experience is they can't unbox the TV or even put it up on the stand for you unless you pay for the "installation". That's not as big of a deal as it was with my plasma (which they did unbox and pull out as part of installation because it was so heavy) since this TV is so light, but I'd recommend having two people to lift a 55" TV for stability sake. Picture quality on the MU8000 is excellent. Vivid colors, deep blacks, no light bleed I can see, motion handling and up-scaling all looks great so far. The Samsung remote is really nice and the voice control addition works well. There aren't a lot of buttons - it's basically just like the Amazon FireTV voice remote. I have a Logitech Harmony so our primary remote is the Harmony remote, but I do like the simplicity of the Samsung remote. The toggle channel/volume buttons are a bit odd at first, but we don't really use them. The MU8000 stand is nice looking, but feels a little cheap. I would opt for wall-mounting if you have the option. One thing I'm not quite sure on is the "One Connect Box" that I personally fins annoying. There are NO ports on the back of the TV. It looks really clean, but having all the inputs in an external box is definitely different. The cable management channel around the bottom edge and foot of the TV is really cool, but when you're running both the One Connect Box cable and the power cable it gets crowded. It also seems like Samsung gave up on the cool cable management design once they hit the stand and just said "whatever - if they get to this point we don't care". It looks a bit odd on my stand, but depending on what you put your TV on it's a lot cleaner. The nice thing about the One Connect Box is it places the inputs away from the back of the TV. I only run one HDMI to my TV from my receiver so my cords are minimal, but if you had multiple inputs I could see this being awesome, especially in a wall-mount situation as you'd only have 2-3 running from the back of the TV instead of 7. The Samsung Tizen OS smart TV software is pretty good - I haven't run in to issues with it, but I don't use it all the time. If I was running cable directly into the TV and not through my stereo receiver, I think the voice control for the cable channels and the smart TV software would be much nicer than my Comcast/Xfinity box (I don't have the X1). The MU8000 dims/brightens itself depending on the light in the room. It hasn't bothered me too much and I may disable it at some point, but it's worth noting. There are times the TV looks a bit too dark for the light in the room but it's never been unclear. This may only be a "movie mode" setting. There is some glare on the set, but no where near as bad as a plasma TV. The viewing angle is decent, maybe a little better than my Panasonic plasma. I expected better viewing angles from a TV this expensive and 8 years newer. From what I have read, the HDR on the MU8000 is not the best you can get and you'd be better off with last year's KS8000 or the Sony 900E series if HDR is important to you. You do have to turn it on in the MU8000 settings for the input you want. Overall, this TV is a nice package for the price. It seems to promise a bit more than it actually has, which is disappointing from Samsung, but if you're not going to nitpick over the 500 nits reality vs the 1000 nits promise on the package for the HDR, you will be happy with your purchase. If you want to stay in this price range and care about the best specs for your money, I would recommend trying to find the KS8000 series somewhere or going with the Sony 900E series.

I upgraded this tv from a 1080p LED and I love it. The picture is great, however it is a necessity to mess with the factory settings as the presets are awful. Don't be discouraged if upon setting it up you're not "wowed" by watching regular 1080p content. Ive found until you get the settings right, some content may even look worse than your previous tv. Content is limited in the HDR market, but I was absolutely blown away by the color and clarity when I was able to stream some HDR content through Netflix. The design is sleek and stylish. I love the external box that you plug all your inputs in to, giving it a minimalist style. Set up is extremely easy, stands pop right in to the tv, although I'm not a huge fan of the stand design... as you will need a stand almost as large as the length of the tv to test it on. Also love that there is a very, very thin border around the tv box itself. The remote is voice activated along with some minimal buttons. It does take some getting used to, but its easy once you get the hang of it. Only complaint, and this one is frustrating IMO... But there is no "settings" button on remote. Tv has a lot of nice features in the Smart tv software. Little things I appreciated like self detection on inputs. You can also control many settings with your voice which is nice when trying to find the perfect picture. Like, "change to standard picture" or "turn brightness up" etc. Bottom line, highly recommend. However idk if I can justify it's current price as I got it on sale. YOU WILL HAVE TO TWEAK THE SETTINGS A LOT TO PERFECT IT... Take of "auto-motion" settings etc. But that is understandable for a tv this high end, as there are a lot of feautures. I was also pleasantly surprised at how good the sound is!

The picture quality for 4K shows and movies is amazing with this TV. I watched Sneaky Pete and Moving Art: Oceans in 4K and the quality is freaky good. I love the remote and the UI that Samsung has developed, it is simple to use. Setting up my Amazon, Netflix and Hulu accounts was easy, I also setup my Roku for other content that I get from that (may not need that anymore). Connecting my Blueray/DVD player was simple, I can even control it from the TV remote but can't do everything (still need the blueray/dvd remote, same goes for the roku). The viewing angle is pretty good, something that I checked out in store before buying this TV. When I got this home and set it up, I sat in every chair in my living room to make sure the picture was good at all angles. I don't have a large living room and I am only 10' away from the screen so my viewing angle isn't wide. If you are interested in this TV, go see it in the stores at the distance and angle you'd be watching from home. I know that some people buy sound bars for their TV's but I found the sounds on this TV to be really good, so I never bought one. Perhaps I don't know what I am missing. I have found OTA content, like the Super Bowl, to be excellent. When I watched the Super Bowl I was looking for lag when the ball was thrown and couldn't really tell that there was any. I am super happy with this TV and would recommend that anyone buy this, or the 65" model.

Our old Samsung LCD tv started getting lines and ghosting on us. So we decided it was time to get a new one. After reviewing a lot of different models, we went and looked at this one. It is amazing how far technology has come from the last TV we purchased. No longer do we need any external hardware devices in order to stream. The remote appears to be simplistic with the few buttons it has, however we have not run into any issues of being able to do anything with it. Its stylish and sleek look go very well in our living room. The added feature of making this a "clean installed look" tv is a nice bonus. They have grooves where you route the cables down through so you do not really see them. The only complaint I have is the power cable is not as long as I would like it to be. However, if mounted on a wall, I'd suspect most people would have an outlet nearby. We unfortunately have a window behind the entertainment center so wall mounting is not possible. This tv has great color range. The blacks and whites represent truly as they should. The onscreen menu is also a nice feature allowing a lot of customization like moving your favorite sources (Netflix, Pandora, Live TV OTA (Over The Air), Etc) around in the order you want them to appear. I will update this review if we run into any issues, but for the time being we are very satisfied with our purchase.

I bought this after my last TV, a 42" Sharp, finally started developing problems. I had it delivered due to the fact that I did not have a large enough vehicle available to pick it up myself. Delivery was flawless, and I set up the TV with ease, noticing no problems at all. The following day, however, I did notice that there was now a thin vertical line toward the right side of the screen. I followed all of the troubleshooting steps suggested by Samsung, to no avail. I decided to call the nearest store to inquire about my options, and they were a tremendous help. They not only processed the return, but they also set up the delivery of the replacement, at no charge. The new one arrived, and it is flawless. A perfect picture! Set up was very easy, and I have absolutely no complaints. One thing I will mention is that you should make sure that, before you buy, check the measurements of the stand you plan to place this on, if you aren't wall mounting, of course. The stand I have measures 45" across, which is more than enough room for this TV, which measures at just over 48" across. The stand has two options in which you can place the legs a bit further toward the middle if need be, or further out if you have the space on the surface on which the TV sits.

I been in the market looking for a decent 4k tv with HDR. And this one did the job.So during Black Friday i decided it is time to hopped on the 4k tv train and buy this 55 inch 4k hdr tv to replace my 32 hd led tv from Vizio. I heard many great things about Samsung 4k tv and been eyeing the samsung tv for awhile, my other option was Sony, but i made up my mind as seeing Samsung had great features. but who knows maybe i will get a sony in the future. The design is sleek and when i turn on the tv to setup and watch some hd channels, it was breath taking. well worth the money spent. With motion rate 240, i be enjoying action pack movies with joy, Another reason to my purchase is that it offers 4 hdmi instead of 3 hdmi, and includes 3 usb ports. with my last tv had only 3 hdmi, the added one more hdmi was a big plus and now i don't have to go back and keep changing them. I like the clutter-free cables and it makes the area under neath the tv not so messy. i like the borders around the tv as it is thin borders. the Audio is amazing, it does a great job in sending out audios around them room for clarity. Overall i am just impress with this 4k tv.

I've only had this TV for a few days but so far I absolutely love it. The picture and sound were both significant upgrades over the TV I replaced. I've held off on 4k for a while just because of the limited content but I had an old 50 inch plasma I had to replace and this seemed to fit the bill. Setup was easy, love the one connect box although I wish cords for it and the power were slightly longer. Setting it up for gaming on an Xbox one S wasn't too difficult but I did need to review some online resources in order to really understand a number of the settings, same with the direct content (netflix, Hulu, Youtube) on the smart interface but it does retain unique display settings for each which has been very useful. As expected the input lag feels non existent and the motion blur has not been an issue as of yet either.

I have been watching the 8000 and 9000 models for about 2 years. I was disappointed when the new model year did not initially receive the great reviews of the previous model, however, I continued to watch the price and reviews. The numbers went up for the reviews and on Black Friday the numbers went down on the price. I have had high expectations for this purchase, and so far the TV is outperforming those expectations. It was easy to set up, and once it was I am completely enjoying the picture quality. It is bright, clear, and watching sporting events there is very little motion blur. The remote is functionable, but I use our DirectTv remote mostly anyways. I am even pleasantly surprised by the sound. We purchased a 3.1 soundbar....the soundbar does enhance the audio performance, but not as much as I thought it would. We are extremely happy with the purchase of this TV and would highly recommend it!

This TV has a great image quality, both in HD and Ultra HD (4K). I didn't have 4K before, and I'm impressed with 4K content out of Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime. The usability of the TV interface is really good and is a big step ahead the previous generations - very intuitive and easy to use. Another big improvement is how easy it identified and connected to all my other devices (home theater, Spectrum set-top-box, Xbox 360, Blu Ray, etc). I had a hard time with my previous TV to switch from one device to another, and this one does it beautifully, with no hassle. Extra point just for this! It also looks nice on my living room, with no visible cables - all of them hidden behind the cabinet connected to the external part that comes with this TV. The only caveat is that it doesn't accept connections to older type of connectors, like S-Video, VGA, etc. From a price standpoint, it is not the cheapest, but it's reasonable. For me, the price difference to the newer generations is not worth the difference in quality or features.

I agonized for a few months about what TV to purchase because I was moving to a new place and didn't have a TV to bring. I wanted something that was a really nice size for an 6-10' viewing distance and was ready for me to upgrade some other HD devices for good unwinding time in my new place. This guy was out of my price range, but I snagged a really great deal on an open box model which also managed to drop it into purview. I've had it for about a month now and I couldn't be happier. The thin bezel and thin profile make it feel like I'm watching a giant phone on my TV stand. It's been great for some Saturday mornings eating cereal and watching cartoons, weeknights catching up on anything that isn't the news or social media, and some guilty 90's weekend primetime rerun binges. I've been gaming on it very successfully. The colors are beautiful and the sound quality is great for music, music videos, and TV. Highly, highly recommend.

We purchased this as our first smart TV to replace our aging Panasonic 50" Plasma TV which I mounted easily on my bedroom wall without requiring any additional clearance space between my dresser and the ceiling which was a major concern. I can't begin to emphasize how drastically improved the quality, clarity, depth, definition, viewing angles and hindrance to sun glare have increased compared to our trusty old Plasma TV. The ONE CONNECT component was effortlessly installed in my closet through the wall, thus eliminating extra cable clutter behind this glorious TV compared to our old unit. The SMART TV features are intuitive and delightful as my wife is now hooked on NETFLIX. I will say, I do not favor the remote control as it is so sleek and does not agree with my autonomous fingers but, I have reprogrammed the FIOS remote to alleviate this problem. WE LOVE THIS TV and have no regrets especially since it was on sale.

Excellent so far. Superb colors and contrast. Unboxed and TV was flawless. Pleasant delivery from Best Buy. We wall mounted ours in our living room which is bit over 200 sq ft, and it feels a little on the small side when watching from the farthest corner about 10 feet away or so (a little bit of a strain to read some subtitles at this distance for me, and I have 20/20 vision). Remote works excellent, though I haven't tried voice commands because I didn't want to consent to ads. Controls are super responsive, and bootup time is quick. We have ours connected through HDMI to an AV receiver at the back of the room and works well. LOVE the Ethernet port! Thanks Samsung! We're a little paranoid about the health hazards of constant EMF radiation so we try to avoid any wireless connectivity where possible. Had ours for about a month now and no issues. Lord willing she holds up for a long while! Merry Christmas!

I compared this Samsung 55u8500 to the Sony xbr55900E because they were in the similar price range. At the store, I did several subjective visual test with highest medium and low motion control, noise filters and brightness. Both were subjectively pretty close except the following. Samsung showed the least noise in deep black or neutral in all settings. What really won me to Samsung was the ability to custom adjust the aspect ratio or individual Horizontal and Vertical zoom level in 4k and HD. This feature allows me to get rid of the black banners top and bottom when the 4k movie is 21:9 theater wide albeit loosing the full left and right side of the picture. The Sony had this feature disabled when switching to 4k. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. I don't believe I would ever need to watch this TV in full brightness as in medium settings is already too bright.

I've had my TV for about 30 days. Did the complete setup myself, even lifting TV (38 lbs) onto my stand....took about 1 1/4 hrs. from box opening. Love the slide-in legs & overall sleek look. Remote took a little getting used to....but now using my Dish remote. I haven't tried any actual 4K or HDR yet but the picture quality of Blu-ray discs is amazing....must be the up-scaling technology. Regular Dish 1080P picture is also really nice (from latest Hopper3 receiver). A surprise is the really good sound...I was expecting to purchase a sound bar but have decided not to....Note: My 55" TV is in a smaller room where I sit about 10 feet away from the screen. BTW, Best Buy did a price match for me....they are true to their word on that....I try to always buy from them to support my local store. Will add to this review later as necessary but right now...VERY HAPPY!

I was down to a Sony XBR900, Samsung MU7000 and the MU6300 as a replacement for a Sony Bravia 46". The salesman at my local BB was extremely helpful in guiding me toward this particular unit, the MU8000. All I can say is I have ZERO regrets. As I'm a cord cutter, my primary use for this set is Netflix, Hulu, other streaming and gaming. This set fills that role nicely with a FANTASTIC picture at this price point, or higher. Gaming performance is exceptional with no noticeable input lag. Picture quality is superb from both 1080P and 4K sources. This includes Blu Ray playing through an Xbox One. Features and functionality are great as well. The remote is so simple looking yet does more than you can imagine, including acting as ar emote for my Apple TV and my Xbox. No complaints on this unit. Would recommend and buy again in a heartbeat.

I just got this TV a few days prior to Black Friday because it was 300 off, and after very extensive research into all the tv's out now, I decided it was time to upgrade my five year old TV and get this new one. The biggest difference that I've seen is that it is brighter, more clear, and a very fast smart feature menu. This is my second Samsung TV I have purchased and I love it. I will not get anything other than Samsung products from now on. If you are on the fence about whether to get this TV versus other companies TVs in the same series get this TV. As far as any cons, the one connect box does not have the red yellow and white connectors for older products, or component cable inputs. But if everything that you going to connect to the TV is through HDMI or USB and you have nothing to worry about. And don't forget you can price match this.

Bought this TV the other day at my local best buy. I upgraded from a 2008/2009 Samsung 1080P TV, so this was a huge step up. As a gamer the picture is phenomenal, and the menu system is nice and organized. Not sure why people are hating on this TV so much, but I can assure you it's worth the money I spent on it! I'm using the TV's sound system and it sounds great. At times I think I have a surround system. I paired this TV with the Sony UBP-X800 4K player. The movies I've played on it all look very sharp, and I've heard it's the best one on the market. Overall this TV is fantastic! Great buy

This was purchased as my 45" Samsung TV died after 5 years. I have been wanting to upgrade to a 4K TV for awhile but had no reason to do so until the next X-Box One X comes out. The picture quality is great for movies, but you need to re-configure the picture settings or you get the "soap opera" effect. Where the people are very detailed but the background looks fake making everything look like they are on a stage. Seems to be the same kind of issue that the old 3d Tv's had. The included apps work great and easy to access. Wi-Fi built in is a huge plus as well as the one connect box which connects all your HDMI cables to 1 box, which in turn connects to the tv with just 1 cable. I took the 5 year service plan just in case as I never expected my old tv to die like it did with the backlight just going out. Better safe than sorry.

Personally, This TV is AMAZING. I like the “One Connect” HDMI box over bult-in HDMI ports on other TV’s. It allows for better cable management/access I had an older Samsung soundbar and plugged that into the ARC port and now all devices from the OC box go through it, even from my HDMI switch that’s plugged into it! The remote also auto-synced to some of my devices, including my Amazon Firestick and my Soundbar. So now I don’t need to use the Firestick remote or the Soundbar remote. Had some issues hooking my PC up to it via HMDI, but it was specific to the PC, not the TV. Last but not least, the video quality is the best. You can definitely see the difference between a 4K tv and non-4K. I recently got the Xbox One X and the games (mainly PUBG and Battlefront 2) look unbelievable.

After an exhaustive search for the tv we wanted and lots of research, we ended up purchasing this particular tv. The colors are rich and vibrant, and the exterior design looks great in our living room. Assembly was pretty straight forward. About the only issue we had thus far is the length of the power cord. There is a built in "channel" so that if you were to mount this tv on the wall, the cords are out of sight and give a professional look. Even if you remove the cord from this channel, it is still pretty short. If you have an outlet nearby it may not be a big deal. We ended up moving the power strip inside the entertainment center to account for the short length. Other than that, we are extremely pleased. The remote control that comes with this tv is pretty good as a universal remote and simplifies control.
