Great 8K Monitor for 2023 M2 Pro Macs with HiDPI
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TL;DR amazing ~160PPI clarity at 4K HiDPI with native 8K @ ~60Hz VRR. Text and images look great. I've been using the Samsung Q90T 55" for years as a monitor for M1 Macs and really enjoying it. I upgraded to the QN700B 55" to take advantage of 8K with the new 2023 M2 Pro Macs just adding support. Connecting the TV right away (with a good 48Gbps 8k cable like that from Belkin) it defaulted to 4K HiDPI (UI looks like 4K but native resolution is 8K). Instantly all text and scaled images look significantly better with the higher PPI. In the short time I've been using this I've noticed reduced eye strain from clearer text alone. This doesn't come without caveats though and I'm still giving five stars because properly configured, this is the best large HiDPI "monitor" I've seen for a Mac. First is there was noticeable dithering at the static 60Hz refresh rate of 4K HiDPI 8K native. I found using game mode on the TV and choosing a Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) solved this and perfectly acceptable for my use cases. A few other notes and potential caveats that are nowhere near deal-breaker for me: * I've been spending more time on SDR and not HDR * Samsung's Smart Calibration (via iPhone) was actually impressive and created a few profiles I've been testing with * SpyderX profiles in SDR with datacolor's software were less impressive * DisplayCAL profiles were much better with the SpyderX device and have been leaning on those for testing further - using gama 2.2 only so far * Still more experimenting planned with getting the right reference point on DisplayCAL pre-calibration - R and G were too low in initial calibrations. * Tested a little more with the TV settings ** game mode is a must and haven't found a way around the dithering others have seen setting normal 60Hz refresh rate ** HDR Tone Mapping looked a little too aggressive to me, but I'll want to test more ** Dynamic Black Equalizer was a little too aggressive to me ** Local Dimming High works great for me ** Contrast Enhancer Low looks great to me ** I found setting this to Off produced some flickering in the corners of the screen for me with Local Dimming High which was definitely noticeable ** Color Space was interesting - currently running Custom as Native really blows up the Reds for me ** I might experiment more with Native and tune the white balance a bit more * There is a bit more panel glare than prior year's TOTL like the Q90T, but hasn't bothered me (yet) * Definitely a more noticeable color change depending on viewing angle like the older TN/VA panels and not as good as even the older TOTL like Q90T, but this is less important to me * So far I really enjoy clarity and reduced eye strain. That alone might justify the cost especially since I've been using a 4K 55" TV as a monitor for years now which some might consider absurd, but I've really grown to like. I'll spend more time trying to lock down the Color Profile and settings and make sure the other ergonomics work as expected (re-connecting HDMI and retaining settings, etc).

GREAT for Movie watching
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV- meets all my expectations- trust me, it’s a huge step up from a TV that I’ve had for almost 10 years- I got such a great deal on this or I’m hoping it’s a great deal as I paid $1000 for it- I watched quite a bit of TCM classic movies. It makes the black-and-white just pop, and the colors are incredible. I see everything crystal clear- We watched the new Avatar movie and Black Adam and we couldn’t get over the the clarity, colors and how real they seemed- As an elderly person, next time, I will have someone put it together and set it up. It was very difficult for me to attach the heavy stand and I needed someone to help me put it up on the TV stand.

Good value when on sale
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture is great. The remote control is sporadic, so I use an app and phone instead. Overall I am satisfied but not ecstatic about the product, but it was on sale, and therefore a good value.

Best TV for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this TV. The picture is awesome. I have had no problems with the tv. Its super light put it on wall by myself. It has the best sound I have heard from a tv, didn't even hook it up to my surround sound yet. The interface takes some getting use to. I haven't try the gaming mode yet but if it works as well as the features on tv it should be great. You can't beat it for the price.

Perfect besides Gamemode for xbox
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great tv, lovely color and a frameless look. My only reason for not giving it a 5star is samsung tv's issue with gamemode on xbox causing a black screen

Good quality material, bad picture :/
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m really disappointed with this tv… i went from a 1080p Samsung to this hoping the picture quality would be amazing compared, but honestly I feel like my 1080p had much better quality! Which is crazy… but literally no joke this tv has blurryness to edges and movement that was not there on my LCD tv… I’ve tried all the different modes, even auto calibration on the tv system, on my Xbox series X it’s all more blurry than my 1080p… I really want to return it…black levels are better and contrast is better but other than that it’s no good …

Posted .AdamM,
We appreciate your thoughts on the picture quality of Samsung’s QN700B TV. If the image you’re seeing isn’t to your liking, there are several picture settings you may want to adjust.
Go to Home > left direction button > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode
...and select the mode that best fits your usage:
1) Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments.
2) Movie: Is suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.
3) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
4) Filmmaker Mode: You can watch the source content (e.g., movie) as it is. If the image is defined as Filmmaker Mode, it will automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode while watching.
For optimal motion image performance, you may also want to adjust the picture clarity setting by going to: Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > Picture Clarity Settings
- Off: Picture Clarity Settings will always be off
- Auto: Picture Clarity Settings will automatically activate and deactivate based on the type of program being watched
- Custom: Allows custom adjustments and settings to be used. By selecting the Custom option, you can access these advanced settings for Judder Reduction, LED Clear Motion, and Noise Reduction.
