Buyer Beware these TV’s have issues

The TV lasted about 2 weeks before I had picture issues. It’s either a bad panel or the largest ghost image I’ve seen yet. If anyone buys this tv I advise you to check out the image quality immediately. I noticed the issue while playing a video game and it was even more apparent after I put a SOLID WHITE IMAGE on the screen. I did this by playing a YouTube video that makes you entire screen white. There is a permanent off white rectangle that’s nearly 10x35 inches wide give or take. I purchased this TV February 26th and it lasted about 10 days before I noticed this. I’m extremely disappointed because I thought this TV was well reviewed and specifically bought this tv over the promise of ‘no screen burning ever’ What you won’t see is the number of people who are actually having troubles with this TV on most dealer websites, just like this TV is highly reviewed here. I’ll save you the time and give you this advice. Search QN90a issues and head into some tech forums. The number of people that are having problems is insane. I’m returning this Tv and getting the same model hoping this issue isn’t a quality control company wide thing. If this second one is bad then I’m never buying a Samsung product again. This is 3 4k TV’s in less than 10 years.... waste of money and time.

Love the TV ... Order the Proper Soundboard

This Samsung Neo QLED TV has some awesome features. The full 2021 model# is QN55QN90AAFXZA - Samsung Class QN90A QLED 4K UHD Smart Tizen TV. The micro (Neo) LED picture quality is outstanding. Bright whites, dark blacks and extremely detailed HDR images. The simple looking remote gives you access to a wide range of functions that will take some time to learn. If you are also pursuing a sound board, use caution. This 2021 TV has an HDMI e-ARC connector for connection to a Samsung Soundboard to provide proper sound functionality and Q-Symphony. Make sure you order one of the proper compatible soundboards... For me, the Samsung Support Rep provided the wrong model (HW-Q60T). I had to return that soundboard and order one of the proper compatible e-ARC 2021 model soundboards. The Symptoms were, that in TV + [AV] Soundbar mode, sound was to come from the soundboard AND the TV speakers. Sound was only coming from the Soundboard, none from the TV speakers. Frustrating to troubleshoot and trying to resolve the problem with the many setting options. It was only resolved by reordering a compatible soundboard model.

    Best Non-OLED TV

This TV is very good for gaming and for 4K HDR movie watching. The screen gets very bright and the HDR is noticeable. It has 4 HDMI ports. 3 are HDMI 2.0 and one HDMI 2.1(use this port for the latest gaming consoles). The built-in TV speakers are better than average. They can get loud and even have some bass. The TV has picture-in-picture. Unfortunately it is limited to basic over the air TV stations and the YouTube app. I used this feature playing Xbox 360 games and watching YouTube videos at the same time. You can change the video and audio sources in real time as well. I was looking at OLED TVs, but backed out of it due to fears of screen burn-in. Since this TV uses LCD/LED tech, this is not an issue. Despite not being OLED, it can get close to OLED like performance. Black levels are very black, while light and color are rich. This TV uses a new tech called Mini-LED. Giving it better than average picture quality for LCD/LED panels. Perhaps OLED screens offer better picture, however this TV is good enough after knowing about the possible issues with OLED screens. Build quality is good, with thin profile. Perfect for hanging on a wall. The remote is simplified and uses solar power on the back to recharge. You can also recharge the remote by USB-C cable. Overall, it is the best TV I have ever owned. The picture and sound is great, while offering nice extra features.

Great picture, good sound, bad menus/interface

The Good: The TV picture quality and brightness itself is great. HDR 4k movies look awesome and are a tangible improvement over our previous '4k' low-end unit we replaced. Sound quality of the TV has been good. Adding a HW-Q70T soundbar with the added rear speakers was a noticable sound improvement. Q-Symphony is an interesting option/feature, but I don't know that I would particularly miss it if I didn't have the option. Per Samsungs technical support, Q-Symphony just plays existing sound channels out of some TV speakers which I've found to result in a subtle improvement in the midrange on those outputs. Because of the bright room environment I went with this model over an OLED from another manufacturer and specifically the QN90A over the QN85A for the panel difference. It is impressively bright to the point we adjust down the brightness at night after there isn't natural light coming through the room windows. The Bad: My only serious complaint is the Samsung menus/interface in the settings. There is little to no explanation in many settings as to what other settings they enable/disable in seemingly unrelated settings. Sound settings seem to change based on input but then won't change back without manually changing them (for example: Atmos audio passes through to the soundbar from an HDMI, then doesn't from an app on the TV, then going back to the HDMI input requires going through the sound settings in the TV again to work properly). They (Samsung) REALLY try and force their integrated TV/media channels on you and there's seemingly no way to change the core menu options positions so getting to the settings means scrolling all the way to the left every time you need to adjust anything. Apps on the TV itself are hit and miss on Atmos support (Netflix plays it no problem, Plex doesn't) without any explanation. You can't remove or rearrange some pre-installed apps and it is unclear if over time they're being auto-updated with the rest of the software and will continue to consume limited system memory as a result. The installed factory apps storage/memory is fairly small for a TV that retails at this price. Overall, the use/setup isn't unbearable if you're willing to spend some time on the internet and learn from the efforts of others.

      Bosco,

Thank you for choosing Samsung's QN90A TV and for sharing your experience. To assist you in learning the various features, functions, and settings of your new TV, please know you can download the QN90A TV's User Manual, e-Manual, Remote Control Leaflet, and Quick Setup Guide on Samsung's website by clicking "Support" > "Manuals & Software" > "TVs & Home Theater". From there, you can select the QN90A TV under "Samsung Neo QLED 4K” > “A Model Lineup" and download the guides you would like. The e-Manual is also embedded into the TV itself under Settings > Support > Open e-Manual.

Please also be sure your firmware is up to date with version 1805.4 which includes input device performance updates. You can check this by going to: Settings > Support > Software Update.

If this firmware version is not yet available on your TV, you can download the update on a USB drive and manually update your TV:
      1. On Samsung's website (upper right corner), go to: Support > Manuals & Software > Find your TV model.
      2. Download the update and extract it to the root of a USB thumb drive. (Do not put it in any folders on the thumb drive.)
      3. Connect the USB thumb drive to a USB port on your TV.
      4. Navigate to Settings > Support > Software Update, select Update Now, and then select Yes.
      5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated software.

Please know that you can customize the Smart Hub by removing apps from or adding apps to the home screen. You can also rearrange apps to your liking.

From your Smart Hub: Simply select an app and press and hold the ‘Enter’ button in the middle your remote’s directional button pad. You will see a popup menu with options to move or remove it.

From Apps: Home > Apps > Select the desired app. From there, you can add to home, lock, move, reinstall or delete (if applicable).

To ensure your apps are always up to date, you can navigate to the Settings within the App Store and set Auto Update to: On.

Rather than launching the TV Plus app, you can also choose what your TV does when you turn it on by going to Settings > General > Smart Features

      1) When you set Autorun Smart Hub to on, the TV displays the Home Screen automatically when you turn the TV on.
      2) If Autorun Last App is set to on, the last used app is automatically run when you turn on the TV. Please know that the Last App Used function may not work with all apps.

I hope these tips help. Should you ever have questions or need help, please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for TVs), available 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week.

Great TV but questionable QC brings the score down

Samsung quality control not the best. First one I bought had dead pixels and dirt/debris under screen, very prominent during viewing and distracting, so returned for exchange and new one is almost flawless but has one dead pixel and very small smudge, but barely visible from viewing distance, and also if I decided to return may end up with one with a ton more issues as QC seems to be subpar with Samsung. The uniformity on this one is great and colors rich, brightness perfect, and black levels awesome. I upgraded from a 2016 Samsung UHD model and it is night and day difference, biggest is the navigation of menus, so much more snappier. Love the rechargeable solar remote too. Was looking at and considering the 8k models like the QNA900, but okay with waiting for the 8k tech to mature a bit. Hearing too many reports of overheating, little to no 8K content, codecs and decoding issues, and rapidly changing HDMI standards and features, even the 8k sets manufactured that look future proof won't be in a couple months.

This is Hands down the best mini-led tv in the market, it’s so bright you can use it as an outdoor tv as long as it’s protected from the elements. Also, black levels are almost as good as oled screens. The only downside is the blooming when watching in dark room scenarios, but if you are used to regular led tvs you won’t notice it as much.

I upgraded from a Samsung 8 series and there is no comparison. This TV has an amazing picture, great blacks levels and brightness. Our living room is very bright and even so the TV is very bright. The picture colors and resolutions are excellent. Also the TV has a great sound. Was easy to setup. The remote control is manageable and easy to use. The videos streaming and the smart features are excellent. The only thing that I found is that it only brings a single HDMI 2.1 instead of the four. Overall, this TV is excellent. Absolutely, I recommend this amazing TV by far!!!

First very expensive TV so my review might not be very helpful to those with lots of technical knowledge with TVs. Used for nearly 2 months as a monitor for my PC for movies and gaming as of the time of writing this. Things I like: - Great colors and gets very bright - Never had I ever had a "WOW" moment until I played RDR2 and Forza Horizon 4 on this TV (with select picture settings) - Very responsive menu - "Pictures Clarity settings" for most videos and media content - Build quality (though it's a very heavy TV) - Attractive and simple design Things I don't like: - I absolutely hated the "rainbowing" effect the anti-glare coating causes. It's extremely distracting and is a huge deal breaker. The 50" model does not have this anti-glare coating and is much easier to live with.. - Only 1 HDMI 2.1 port.. All other ports are HDMI 2.0. Not great if you've got 2 or more devices that can take advantage of HDMI 2.1 (PS5, Series X, gaming PC, etc.) - Getting to TV settings takes more time than I'm used to (without a dedicated settings button on the remote) - TV remote is sometimes buggy - when this happens, no buttons but the power button would work so you have to hold the power button until it turns off and on the TV again to refresh it or something - might've been fixed in a firmware update but don't wanna connect to the internet to update in case of other new bugs. - Ads in menu when TV is connected to the internet. This seems to be the norm with smart TVs and it sucks. Since I use a PC to connect to the TV, I just don't connect the TV to the internet. - Having to manually change the refresh rate to 60Hz to use "Picture Clarity settings" for videos and movies - A tiny bit of edges are cut-off if not viewing straight on (I have my TV on a center console and if I stand up, the blue bars under app icons being used on my task bar on Windows are cut off). Things to note: - The 50" model has a more ordinary anti-glare effect whereas the 55" model has anti-glare coating that would dissipate light in a "rainbow" effect. I traded in the 55" for a 50" since I just wanted a smaller TV for my room and noticed this difference. I much prefer the anti-glare used on the 50" since the rainbowing effect on is extremely annoying. You should check it out on rtings.com to see the rainbowing effect - they rated it high but I think it does more damage than it does good. Though I essentially dropped down to a 50" within the same family without knowledge of the difference in anti-glare tech, the rainbowing effect is a deal breaker for me. I considered going to the Q80A because of this - ultimately didn't because I wanted the Neo QLED tech. - Local Dimming and Contrast Enhancer settings can make images more dynamic though it seems color accuracy takes a hit. Because of that, I have local dimming on "low" and turn Contrast Enhancer off.

Okay this is rough because the video quality and feature set of the set is worthy of 5 stars. Unfortunately the bad knocks it down. Samsung really needs to think about gamers, streamers and power users a little more. A TV at this price point should have more then one HDMI 2.1 port for one, my 1000 dollar LG 2020 LED TV has 3 2.1 ports and with no HDMI 2.1 switches to be found to compensate this is kinda jank for the price/features. Also for the love of everything just start putting One connects on all your TVs cause having them all on the side is not convenient in any way then to add to it this TV has them in the WORSE possible side (for me). This is 2021 we want to hide our cords especially when there are 5 to 6 devices being connected to the TV alone and having the ports in the back make this easier. So if you want to keep your TVs slim just use the one connect please or don't worry about a little extra width I'd rather have the width. All this lead to me finally getting home and late mind you cause I had a lot to do. Finally got to open my beautiful new TV and couldn't even hook everything up cause it's impossible in it's current state due to these inconveniences. Now on to the good I temporarily hooked up my PC and ran some UHD movies and man this is thing looks great can't deny that I was worried coming from a OLED but I'm sick of the quality control on those they are crap I've owned enough LGs to know. The sound is surprisingly good the speaker placement on these really does make a difference for those who might not own AV equipment. If you do happen to have the money throw in on the 2.2.1 soundbar system to definitely worth it I'm really impressed this is master bedroom setup and didn't want to put speakers in my ceiling there. I'll have to update on Xbox Series X and PS5 play when I can actually hook them up. These TVs really should have more 2.1 ports and better cable management though it's a bummer cause the picture and features are top notch.

Fantastic picture and brightness, decent sound, super thin form factor, and excellent gaming experience. I love this TV so far! I do see halos around my mouse cursor and white text on black backgrounds occasionally, but only rarely and under certain conditions/settings. 4K content looks amazing and although I’m new to HDR it looks pretty impressive. Very little glare on the screen. Handy solar powered remote. Built-in Alexa seems kinda slow and glitchy, and the UI is slow and clunky at times. (It takes many clicks to change the source, for example.) Sturdy and attractive stand with cable guides. Overall a great TV so far. Highly recommended!

My review is gaming focused. This is a fantastic gaming television. Have a Series X and it looks amazing. With that said, the local dimming isn't as accurate and colors are pushed more into the blue spectrum while in game mode. It's not bad. Just not as good as movie or standard mode. Despite slightly more blooming in game mode, the black levels are deeper than I expected and provide a nice depth to the image. The HDR and color are what really blows you away. It's simply lush. Input lag is under a frame as well. HDMI stuff. There seems to be some confusion surrounding HDMI 2.1 on this set. All ports are capable of 4K/120/HDR/VRR. The official HDMI 2.1 port has the bandwidth to support 10-bit HDR at 120hz, while the other three are only capable of 8-bit HDR at 120hz. Now, if you are not gaming at 120hz on the other three ports, then you will have enough bandwidth for 10-bit HDR. Now onto the real problems... Banding and DSE (dirty screen effect). This TV, like all other LCD panels, can suffer from these uniformity issues. My issue with Samsung is them not cherry picking the better panels for their higher tier televisions. They need to work this out with their OEM suppliers. I'm not paying this kind of cash just to have these picture issues. It does not rear its ugly head all the time, but when it does, it absolutely turns me off gaming. I can't "unsee" it. Overall, I do enjoy this television and most others will too. I just hope Samsung stops artificially boosting the image in game mode. Keep it closer to developers intent. Please. Will I keep this? I still have some time to return and I think I may do so. Like I said, buying an LCD is a panel lottery, maybe I'll get more luck the next time around if I exchange. Banding and DSE are not acceptable at these prices. Buyer beware.

Im really happy with this tv. The colors pop it looks great its very fast and you can do a lot with it. I play xbox series x with it and for the first time on a tv game mode actually looks pretty good. And it gives you a gamebar with a frame counter. 120fps mode is very fast and im winning more games like call of duty. I keep it on vivid video mode for the most part. It looks and plays great and is the center piece of my home. I would definately recommend this tv over this years over priced stuff. The only thing really better about this years version is the 4 hdmi 2.1 ports anyways. This one has the better picture tho.

We purchased the Samsung 55” QN90 to replace our approximately 14 year old Sony 46”. We thought that the Sony had a good picture but the Samsung is amazing. We realized that the Sony had lost some of its picture quality due to its age and it was not a “smart TV”. I think the blacks approach the OLED televisions and the colors are beautiful. We purchased the Samsung Q700A sound bar to go along with this television. We are extremely happy with our purchase.

Great black levels and brightness. TV Speakers are wonderful as well. I don't have to turn up the volume as loud as my last TV, although I do plan on getting the Q700A soundbar to pair with the TV for the Q Symphony mode for even better sound quality. Very colorful and vivid TV display and the anti glare is great when I game or watch TV on my days off!

We got this because it has an anti-glare coating on the screen, and it is truly impressive, being located opposite two south-facing windows. You don't notice a reflection at all. Sleek design. Jet-black blacks. Vibrant Color. Amazing Brightness. Innovative and lightweight light-powered remote control. Great speaker system, especially when paired with a Samsung Q series soundbar. I have nothing bad to say about this TV. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but once I got it all set up and dialed in, it was truly money well spent.
