      Hi Charles,

It’s unfortunate to hear you’re not fully satisfied with your TU690T TV’s image quality. Below are a few settings that I recommend adjusting:

Go to Home > Settings > Picture > Picture Mode and select the mode that best fits your usage:

      1) Standard: Default mode suitable for general viewing environments.
      2) Natural: Reduces eye strain for a comfortable viewing experience.
      3) Movie: Most suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.
      4) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
      5) Filmmaker Mode: You can watch the source content (e.g., movie) as it is. If the image is defined as Filmmaker Mode, it will automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode while watching.

You can also go to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > to manually fine-tune your image.

If you need more help, Samsung is here for you. Call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8 AM - 12 AM EST, seven days a week. Our LiveChat agents are also available by clicking on the ‘Support’ link on our website.

    Excellent performance and value

Having owned this TV for a few weeks now, and having watched a variety of programming on it, here are my takeaways on the Samsung TU690T. First, the picture is superb. Crisp, clear, with deep blacks and a well saturated color palette. While not home theater grade, the audio is surprisingly well rounded and robust. All in all, a rock solid viewing experience. That being said, I would have liked a second USB input, although the single input is not a deal breaker, particularly at this price point. My biggest beef is the remote. While not being backlit isn't a huge surprise, it's layout literally seems upside down. The counterintuitive design results in continually having to shift the remote in your hand to access the volume, channel, and menu toggle. In closing, if you're looking for a solid performing television with an accurate, detailed picture and extraordinarily listenable audio, buy this television. Sure you might have to spend a little extra coin on a backlit aftermarket remote but that honestly is a small price to pay.

      Hi EnriqueF,

I'm sorry that you are experiencing issues with your TU690T TV having a black screen. Please know we are here to help and have a few troubleshooting tips for you to try.

If your TV has a black screen even when it's on, it's possible it could be your external device and not your TV. Please try these troubleshooting steps for your blank screen issue:

      1. Press the Home button on the remote.

If the menu appears, the TV is powered on but is either not on the correct source or not receiving a signal. If the menu does not appear, the TV may be having power issues.

Check the red standby light, a little red light at the edge of the TV that you aim the remote at. In everyday use, the red standby light is on when the TV is off (indicating the TV is on standby), and the red standby light is off when the TV is in use (or doesn't have power).

      2. Confirm that the TV is set to the same source as the external device.

For instance, if your cable box is connected to HDMI 1, set the TV source to HDMI 1.
If the TV is set to the correct source, but there is still no image, unplug and reconnect the AV connections one cable at a time from both ends of each cable. If there's any damage to the cable, it will need to be replaced.

After reconnecting the external device, please turn it off and back on.

      3. Test the HDMI cable.

Some TVs have an HDMI cable test. Some models only have this test after a software update, and older models do not. If your model does not have this test or is not connected by HDMI, you can skip to the next step.

The test is designed for HDMI cords less than 6 feet long and may not give accurate results on longer cords.

To perform the test, make sure the TV's source is still on the HDMI setting for the cable you want to test, and then navigate to Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Signal Information > HDMI Cable Test > Start Test.

If the test says, the cable is bad, replace the cable. Service is not required.

      4. Test different external devices.

The final thing to rule out is the external device you're using. Try connecting a different device or using a different source port.

If the TV can display a picture in any other setup, then you've ruled the TV out as the cause of the issue. Keep trying various setups until you identify the device or cable that is not working and troubleshoot or replace it.

The TV will need service if the issue persists after these steps. Please get in touch with us so that we can better investigate your case and assist you with a solution or replacement. Hi dbguru,

We appreciate your review of the TU690T TVs image and sound quality. I have a few recommendations that may improve your experience.

First, regarding low volume, there are several volume features you can adjust, which may improve your audio experience.

      1) Volume automatically adjusts the sound to a certain level when changing channels or switching to another external input. Go to Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Auto Volume.

      2) Adaptive Sound automatically adjusts to a specific volume level while watching TV. The TV analyzes your volume usage history by time period to automatically adjust the volume when you use an app or switch to an external input source. Go to Settings> Sound> Sound Mode> Adaptive Sound.

      3) Several Sound Modes are likewise available to meet your personal preferences: Home > Settings > Sound > Sound Mode.

Also, some sources have their own volume control, which might need to be set higher. Please check the volume control of the external device (cable box or satellite box, DVD, Blu-ray, etc.) connected to your TV. Also, check the cable connection between an external device and the TV and then try the cable connection again.

Next, go to Home > Settings > Picture > Picture Mode and select the mode that best fits your usage:

      1) Standard: Default mode suitable for general viewing environments.
      2) Natural: Reduces eye strain for a comfortable viewing experience.
      3) Movie: Suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.
      4) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.

You can also go to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > to manually fine-tune your image.

      Hi RVer,

I'm very sorry that your TU690T TV screen went out, especially during such a busy time. Your patience is greatly appreciated while you await service. I have a few troubleshooting steps for you to try while you wait for your service technician.

In normal use, the red standby light is on when the TV is off (indicating the TV is on standby), and the red standby light is off when the TV is in use (or doesn't have power).

If your model does not have this test or is not connected by HDMI, skip to the next step.

If the test says the cable is bad, replace the cable.
