Third of Seven Samsung TVs to “go out”

    Posted .

Bought this TV in 2017, and as of April 2023 the screen has gone partially dark. This wasn’t a slow fade. Worked fine one day, next day had this issue. For the price, unacceptable to have a 5 year shelf life. As of now, of the seven different Samsung TV owned over the years, three have had irreparable screen defects. This is that third. Probably difficult to go back to a Samsung TV. Although the three stars is for the satisfaction of the frame for the >5 years owned.

Beautiful TV, yet very capable 4K TV

This TV looks gorgeous; especially with the customizable bezel with the Art Mode turned on. Granted; it is not the thinnest TV available, but that is not the point. When it installed on the wall, it becomes a part of home decor. This TV also is very capable 4K Smart TV. Here are my favorite features: - Art Mode is the by far the best feature. There are numbers of pre-loaded great pictures in the TV. Also using "Smart View" app on my Galaxy S8+, I can send my favorite pictures to the Frame, and setup my own picture frame. (TV firmware update is highly recommended; Art Mode became much more stable after the update. FW update link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/the-frame) I would also recommend using REAL camera with very high image quality if want to display own pictures on the Frame TV. - One Connect and Invisible cable make the wall mount TV so much more sense. I placed this TV control box next to the AV receiver; cable connection and configuration is so much easier. - Seamless connection with NAS (Network Attached Storage; tested with Synology DS216J) TV detects the NAS automatically, and can play all the pictures and videos from the network storage. NAS automatically appears as one of the input sources. This was a pleasant surprise!

After reading mixed reviews, I went for it and have been reasonably pleased with the overall concept of " The Frame" TV. Mounts w/ near zero gap, picture/matte display SW works well and brightness auto adjustment is good. Overall, good first attempt! Improvements in picture display SW options could be a growth path if there continues to be a market.

    TV without the eyesore

Awesome TV with great picture quality - but the best part is how it acts like art when turned off (instead of being an eyesore in the middle of your living room). Good options on pictures to choose from...but be warned as paying for additional pictures is also a possibility.

    Great TV Choice

So happy I chose this tv for my great room. Didn’t want a blank screen taking up wall space when I was entertaining. With this tv, a picture of my choice or one generated by the tv is on the screen. It looks like a painting on the wall complete with a framing mat. An optional frame can be bought to fit your decor, but really isn’t necessary. Very pleased with this purchase; high quality picture when tv is on.

Mounting takes some finessing, trick is to run the power and One connect line inside wall. Contacted Samsung, power cord is NOT CL in-wall rated though.

Love this new frame TV! Much better than the 1st generation Frame, whereas the power cord is NOT CL rated! Whole idea of Frame TV is to hide all cords. Newer generation is just a thin cord from the Connect One box to the TV, all interconnects, including power cord, is from the One Connect box.

The television itself is top of the line. The volume on it is excellent so check it out before investing in a sound bar. It doesn't operate like a typical tv so low tech folks like myself have to really play around with it before learning how to operate it. The only down side is the price.

This tv is amazing. The frame is every tech persons dream. The picture quality is mind blowing even with a ps4 pro. Do not cheap out on your next tv purchase because you get what you pay for.

Amazing picture as compared with the 4K TVs I have previously bought and the artwork feature is great instead of having a large blank screen in the room. Thankfully I had mine mounted professionally as it seems pretty tough due to the low profile mount (included with the TV).

My wife and I bought this tv somewhat sight unseen. But did my research on all the specs. Picture is great. Love the no gap built in wall mount. The picture display when they tv off is nice. It can kind of fool you at times. But it is still like a screensaver on a computer. It is still nicer to look at than just a black screen when off though. Great purchase, great smart tv.

After getting the updated version this model (2017) is not great. It requires 2 cables to power the TV and send the video signal. Doesn't have a slideshow feature like the newer one.

Neither the Samsung nor Best Buy production descriptions and photos mention or indicate the (ill conceived) mandatory use of Samsung's One Connect Box. The photos (mis) lead the consumer to think that the TV will be a seamless and clean install; that the TV will simply hang like a picture frame or artwork. Wrong! You will need to hide the unseemly brick in a cabinet or furniture. It will not fit behind the TV in a no gap install. The photos are fake and misleading. Samsung still has much learn from Apple and Best Buy should be up front about the One Connect Box and the aesthetic penalties imposed on the installation.

      Buddy:

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung 65" Class The Frame 4K UHD TV. I apologize for the inconvenience you had with the OneConnect box and the initial setup.

Please know that the OneConnect box is designed to allow users the convenience of a central hub to plug in their source components – such as cable box, game systems, and Blu-ray players – without the clutter of running multiple cables to the TV. The transparent OneConnect cable additionally lets you place the hub out of view up to 5 meters away from the TV. Both the OneConnect cable and TV power cable are paintable to blend with any wall color. You may want to hang The Frame over/near an existing power outlet to keep the clean look with minimal cable intrusion.

Again, thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention – we greatly value our customers’ feedback and utilize your opinions in our relentless efforts towards delivering world-class service and products.
