Samsung QN90B - Outstanding TV

Love my new Samsung 65" QN90B NeoQLED! It is mounted on the wall in my new condo. Picture quality is outstanding & I love the non-glare aspect, as I have a covered patio with skylights that reflect light. The room is normally fairly dark, but even with the lights on in the room, the picture quality is excellent. The remote is kind of funky & not as user friendly as most, but I use my cable remote anyway, so not a problem. Samsung did not disappoint with this unit! I highly recommend this Smart TV.

Way to go Samsung Support

First I'll say the picture is fantastic and clear and bright. Upon turning it on there was a problem with the left side of the screen, it had dark spots that wouldn't go away even with screen calibration so a quick call to Samsung support was made. They sent a technician to replace the screen and all is good now. The sound is amazing as well with this one. The settings are limited as some options aren't available on this particular model but it's nothing that would be enough to give a bad review

Great TV. I have 20 windows in and open floor plan downstairs so a lot of light comes in my living room area. The gentleman at Best Buy recommended this TV and I can’t think him enough. I’ve always struggled with window glare but this thing somehow cancels it out. I’m a huge fan!

I bought a 65inch and it is just perfect size for our small living room. The center stand also helps since i don’t have a wide table if i will get a tv with standa on the edges. Tv is great and i love it. Movies and series are almost real. I thought the remote is not working but when i charge it in it works. I think it just needs a little wake up boost.

Great Specs/Image quality. Tizen OS not great

I’ve had this TV for about a month now. I love the TV, the incredible HDR and high peak brightness. The not quite OLED quality but mostly inky blacks with local dimming with miniLED looks great. I like that I can see well in daylight in a well lit room. I am a little disappointed that apparently in game mode the local dimming does not work as well according to reviewers. I’m not sure if that is a software of hardware limitation. All of the peripherals including 4 HDMI 2.1 ports one having eARC support are a nice addition. My primary complaints are mostly software based. The Tizen OS is not easy to navigate. Numerous clicks are required to do a simple task such as changing the input. Your options are 1) use the voice button to change the input but you have to know the HDMI number i.e HDMI 2. Even if that HDMI input is named in the settings to Apple TV, you cannot say switch input to Apple TV. It will not work, 2) if your device is HDMI CEC compatible pressing the button on say an Apple TV remote or turning on a game controller will turn the TV on and/or switch to that input (when HDMI CEC decides to work at least). Otherwise there is no input button on the remote. When an input is active in order to switch inputs you have to 1) to click the home button on the Samsung remote, 2) scroll over left to the sidebar. 3) Scroll up to the Game Tab for games, 5) scroll over several boxes of game service ads like Amazon Luna ads for example, then scroll down to that game input i.e Nintendo Switch. Or for all inputs you can do the following… 1) click the home button on the Samsung remote, 2) scroll over left to the sidebar, 3) scroll down 1-2 tiles on the side bar to Menu, 4) scroll 1 tile to the right to connected devices, 5) scroll 1 tile down to the bar with the inputs and connected devices to choose from, 6) scroll over to choose your input or connected device, 7) click on the input or connected device to switch to that input or connected device. I feel like simply making a quick input setting by holding down the home button with a long press or double clicking the home button that then overlays a small tab to choose between inputs, settings, etc would solve all of these issues. Linus Tech Tips also complained about all of the clicking needed for simple tasks like switching inputs (Samsung I hope you are listening if not to be then Linus’s review on the S95B QD-OLED TV where he talks about the poor user interface). In addition sometimes the TV when turned on from standby mode the home screen will be very sluggish and take 1-5 seconds to scroll one tile over. Other complaints is that Samsung chose to not include Apple HomeKit support nor Dolby Vision (in favor of HDR10+) an open HDR standard instead. At this price I think Samsung should pay licensing fees and add necessary hardware but I’m also not convince Dolby Vision is necessary, and Apple HomeKit is just a personal preference. The Samsung MultiView feature is nice to have a game on one input, and watch a YouTube game tutorial video casted form my phone over AirPlay or through the Samsung Tizen OS native YouTube app. Having MultiView that allows two inputs say an Apple TV and a game console would be amazing, but my guess is that’s a hardware limitation. Even having both signals downgraded to 1080p in MultiView in some use cases. Multi inputs in MultiView is more of a feature idea not something that is needed to make this a great TV. Overall I am very satisfied with the purchase and the hardware. I will however be very disappointed if Samsung chooses not to address the ease of use of Tizen OS with the changes made in Tizen OS 6.5 on this year’s models, and especially if this particular TV does not receive those changes as I am not sure how long Samsung provides software updates for their TVs.

Brand response from Samsung

guitardude22,
Thank you for your review of Samsung’s QN90B TV! We appreciate you sharing your experience with OS navigation– we will be sure to share with our internal teams.
While the input/source options need to be accessed from within the Home Screen (Home > Menu > Connected Devices), please know you can quickly access your TV Settings by pressing the Settings/Number/Color button (below the power button) on your remote. Here’s how to use it:
1. Press the Settings/Number/Color button on your remote. 2. Press the UP directional button on your remote. When you press this button, the Settings menu/Virtual number pad/Color pad are displayed. 3. From the Settings menu, you can quickly set the options of your frequently used functions. For advanced settings, select All Settings.
If your TV takes a while to turn on, apps take longer to start, or the menu takes longer to load, please try discharging or cold booting your TV, as this will help it start up normally again. You can cold boot your TV 2 ways:
1. With the Samsung TV remote - With the TV turned on, press and hold the power button on your remote. - Continue holding the power button while the TV powers off and back on.
2. Without the Samsung TV remote - With the TV turned on, unplug the TV's power cord from the power outlet and wait 30 seconds. - Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn the TV back on.
This will clear your memory cache, and your TV should start running normally again.
Please also check to see if your TV has any software updates available, which could help it run smoother as well. You can check this by going to: Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.
You may also want to further optimize performance with the self-diagnostic tool, which checks memory, frees up unused cached memory, and closes background apps. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Device Care > Start Device Care
I hope these tips help you enjoy your new product. You can always contact us for further help at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week. Our LiveChat agents are also available by clicking on the ‘Support’ link on our website.

Amazing TV! Great for big screen gaming. Near seamless switching between HDR and 4K modes. Would recommend for any gamer. Only draw backs is the sound but adding Dolby Atmos capable sound system fixes that.

I purchased this tv after having another tv for 10+ years and it was not working great at blocking sun glare at the new apartment I moved to. This tv definitely fixed the glare issue but you do still see the window reflection of windows facing the tv. This tv is also VERY fragile and set up was kind of stressful and so will be moving it in the future. Overall I'm very happy with the speed, picture, and the tv in general.
