DO NOT BUY if you plan to stack

This review is not about the performance of the washer/dryer, which is actually very good. This review is about Samsung customer service, or that of their official 3rd party repair companies, which for all intents and purposes are an extension of Samsung. Our units are only 2 months old and we had what we believe to be a bad sensor based on my call with Samsung. I've actually been able to rectify the problem since our call and believe we have fixed the unit without having to disassemble anything. Fact is, it was basically a user error. Our bad. However, upon scheduling the service call they informed me that I would have to unstack the units and put the units back up and that they would not do this. Two months ago I purchased a new Samsung Washer, Dryer and Stack kit. I had the unit professionally installed by Best Buy. Yet, when it comes time to do a repair, under Samsung warranty, I am responsible for unstacking and stacking the unit. To be clear, I did not purchase Geek Squad protection. Why should I if it is a decent product? The issue is with Samsung. First, everything I did from buying their product to their professional installation, should be covered under warranty. Second, this is akin to buying four new tires, finding out one is defective and the tire company saying "sure we will replace the defective tire(s) but you need to jack the car up yourself". No. I paid for what should be a good product and professional installation. Samsung makes stackable units. They sell official stack kits. They agree to have their authorized retailers (Best Buy) install them. The warranty should include full servicing including the unstacking and stacking of the units. Third, what would happen if I did unstack them and stack them back and an unrelated issue happened later. Seriously, who do you think Samsung would say is at fault if one of the reasons could be the unit having been disassembled, unstacked, stacked again and then reassembled? If they don't contract with a company that stacks/unstacks then you should sure bet they would say it was on you regardless. If you're going to leave the unit side by side, then go for it. However, if you are going to stack, please avoid going with any Samsung washer/dryer.

    Very Good, Basic Dryer

I bought this dryer because it matched the washing machine I was needing to buy to replace a dying machine. I used to use my old dryer on one setting, Timed, and set it to 55 minutes, for everything. That worked fine for me. However, this new dryer uses sensors to determine how dry the clothes are, and stops when it feels they are done. So, again, I have been using this dryer on one setting as well, "Normal." With the matching washing machine, I wash five pairs of large jeans (38 x 34) at a time, the this dryer does a nice job of drying them. There is enough room in the drum to let them tumble and they dry enough, without being "cooked" by excessive time and heat. I have noticed that if you overload the dryer, and used the Normal setting, sometime the clothes can wad up and the stuff in the center will not be completely dry. Also, with big bulky items, like King size blankets or comforters, it is necessary to take them out and re-wad them, so they dry evenly. This is not a failing of this machine though, since this is often required even at the laundromat. Note: Once the Normal cycle is finished, if you want to fluff your clothes again, because you have let them sit for a while, you will need to switch the dryer to "Wrinkle Release," since the sensors on Normal will "see" the clothes as dry already and stop. Wrinkle Release will run for 24 minutes, regardless. If I were to be overly critical, I find that the lint trap is fussy. I'm used to one that is flat, it pulls out and you gather the lint, then slide it back into place. This machine's trap isn't radically different, but it is a cage that folds over, kind of like a taco, and you have to undo the latch to open it up and remove the lint. This takes a bit of concentration and practice since the "taco" is always trying to close back up on itself. The other thing that I find just plain silly, is the song it plays when it is done with a drying cycle. Not only it is silly, but it goes on, and on and on. I guess it is much better than a harsh buzzer, like in days of old, and I know I saw something in the owners manual about changing it, but I have told it to shut up, more than once. Looking back, I have to admit, that if that is all I can complain about, the lint trap and the end signal, than I must be pretty happy with the way this dryer its functioning. And I am.

Good little dryer, had to find the perfect setting

I like this little dryer, I bought it along with a similar Samsung washer. The washer was easy to set and I didn't adjust anything. I threw a load in to dry it and while folding noticed that my jeans were still a little damp, ohhh clammy! So back in they went. I played with the settings a little bit as I found sensor dry to do this just about every time. The trick for me was to adjust the "Dry Level" up a notch, this adds about the required 10-15 or so minutes to finish drying. Once I did that it was great, and I've been happy with it after I discovered that. It drys things, and seams to work well. I've had no issues with it after the little learning curve. I'd probably recommend for them to adjust that for a little higher altitude like we have here but you can easily adjust it however you want and not bring up the temp to shrink clothes. It plays a fun little song when its done. The lint trap works well, and its easy to empty once you figure out that you can unfold it and clean it. Its got some good options for time and sensor dry and the sensor drys defaults gets you pretty close on most loads. The mixed loads is where it seems to leave the heavier stuff a little damp, so again just keeping that in mind and bumping up the dry level setting a notch does the trick. The wrinkle prevent feature is also kinda cool. It keeps things spinning for a bit and spins them on occasion until you come rescue your clothes from it when its done. This was set up to be on by default so if you do it while sleeping or away, maybe turn that off. Its also quite large. A good amount of clothes fit in there and it handles bedding and stuff with no problem.

From day one it hasn’t worked, there is no heat. It turns on and runs cold air, but no heat. I called Samsung and they sent out a 3rd party repair person who said it was the motor, but since he didn’t have a motor we rescheduled for a week later. He came back, replaced the motor, still didn’t work, he said it was now the computer, which of course he didn’t have, so we rescheduled for the next week. Received a call the night before his 3 visit saying the part still wasn’t in, so it was rescheduled again for 2 days later. Received another call the day of that visit saying the tech had called in sick and they would need to reschedule. At that point I called Best Buy to exchange the product for a brand new one, they complied and the delivery was scheduled. However, I never received a confirmation call the night before delivery, so I called Best Buy to confirm. They confirmed they had all the notes for the exchange, and the delivery, but their order numbers didn’t match, so nothing was officially scheduled, and therefore I was not getting a delivery that day. I now have a new delivery day scheduled for tomorrow 1-9-15. I have had a “Brand New” broken dryer for a month now. I understand there are lemons, but all of the customer service issues between Samsung, the 3rd party repair company, and Best Buy is unacceptable. Easily the worst overall customer service experience of my life.

Began making noise after 2 years, broke after 3

The dryer functions fairly well though the lowest heat setting is higher than I'd like, and the "steam" function is worthless. It just squirts a bunch of water onto your clothes which results in wet patches as opposed to a true steam/mist. But the worst issue is the fact that after only 2 years, it started making noise. A year later, the dryer stopped mid-cycle. Since it was out of warranty, I took the dryer apart to repair it myself and found that the roller that tensions the belt which rotates the drum had melted. The roller wheel is plastic and it rides on a metal shaft, and there is no bearing. Same thing for the rollers that the drum rolls on (no bearings on those either). Samsung could have spent an extra dollar or two to make these parts last and make the dryer more reliable but they didn't. These are parts that spin and carry a substantial load during operation and there is no excuse not to design these so cheaply. I won't buy another Samsung appliance.

All dryers have been front-loading since I can remember, but this is my first matching set, purchased with my Samsung washer (also reviewed). I purchased the pair because Consumer Reports rated Samsung models very high (and they had lower reported repairs than other models) and because Best Buy did a price match on a competitor sale. This unit must go on sale often since I paid $599, and recently I saw it at Best Buy for $579, so if you're in the market, keep your eyes opened. I made the mistake of going for the storage bins, I guess I thought it made them look cool, but WHAT A WASTE.... Nothing I use fits under the washer or dryer. Dryer Pros -VERY quiet -Easy to use control panel -Wrinkle prevention mode works well -Musical start-up and cycle finish makes me smile -Power and Cycle Start buttons -Lint screen is EASIEST to use EVER -Control panel reminds you to clean the screen Dryer Cons -Way larger than I expected -Storage bin is WORTHLESS, save your dollars -Occasionally I will have to run heavy loads through more than one cycle to get towels dry, but I own that I may not be using a high enough temp the first time I will follow-up on this review based on my experience. This unit looks great next to it's washer counterpart, and the performance is as good as I have heard from people.

At first this was a great dryer and loved it. As time went on though our clothes took longer to dry even on a light load. Now two weeks ago it's makes a horrible grinding noise likes it's going to blow up! Which is scary because we actually bought this set to replace the recalled set that could have possible caught fire and seeing how we already had a house fire in our life we didn't want to risk it. (So this set is only 2 years old) We have kept our appliances clean and the lint compartment always free of build up. I'm pretty sure the barrings are going out which is what happened to our very first Samsung dryer after owning it a month but I thought it was a fluke. This is our third Samsung set in 10 years!!! Never again will I buy a Samsung washer or dryer. We really loved our Samsung refrigerator and its durability so we had high hopes for the washer and dryer. The features of the appliances attracted me and their sleek look but pass on these and go with a Maytag or LG. IM LEAVING THIS REVIEW ON EVERY SITE THAT SELLS THESE PIECES OF JUNK!! My parents have had their Maytag set for 20 years with no issues!

I read every review for months and decided to purchase this dryer on Black Friday based on the reviews and the price. Notwithstanding the nightmare I had getting it delivered from Best Buy (more on that later) I have been singularly unimpressed with its performance. Its very basic, it does not dry the clothes in the preprogrammed times and I have had to run it on a time cycle a second time in almost every wash I have done. In retrospect I think I should have gone with a dryer with more bells and whistles. I do not recommend buying this dryer, I should have gone with an LG one to match my washer (WHICH I LOVE). Now as to the delivery, I ordered the dryer received a confirmation date and approximate time, I waited all day and then received a voice mail stating that the delivery personnel came to my home and I refused the delivery stating I did not order it. This being completely untrue led me to 5 hours of being placed on hold, disconnected, insulted and finally being told that they would try and deliver in the next 48 hours. I was also promised a credit. At 5:45 am the next day (a sunday) my door bell rang over and over startling us out of a sound sleep. It was BEST BUY delivering my dryer! They scraped the walls taking the old dryer out, did not thank us for the tip and did not switch the swing on the door. I had to force them to come back in to change the vent I had paid for in advance. I did not get the credit. After another 1-2 hours a week later I got the credit. Very disappointed in Best Buy.

Tensioner/Idler Failed 2 Months Out of Warranty

We purchased this dryer because we purchased the same model 12 months earlier and it is still performing flawlessly. Manufacturing has moved to Mexico since and cost-saving measures are in place. The most recent model we received was a DV42H5000EW/A3 This version of the dryer has a plastic sleeve bearing on the tensioner/idler pulley. This failed 14 months after purchase. ($220 to fix). The pulley was seizing up and was (upon inspection after repair) failing with burn-marks on the wheel. The replacement tensioner/idler pulley has a ball-bearing assy replacing the sleeve. It appears much more reliable. In the photos, I've included a picture of the pulley you DO NOT want, and a picture of the pulley you DO want. Hopefully someone who is up to date can ensure us the ball bearing pulley is currently in use.

After 14 years, I finally had to replace my old top load washer, so I decided to go ahead and buy a new Washer/Dryer set. I spent about 2 hours in the store looking at all the models and trying to make up my mind. I've wanted to try Samsung appliances, so I finally decided to do so and purchased this (and it's washer counterpart) dryer. So far, I'm very pleased with this dryer. It definitely dries my clothes quicker than my old dryer. I love the wrinkle prevent option so that I can leave the dryer unattended and it will continue to "fluff" or rotate the clothes for 180 minutes (3 hours). The only problem I have is that the control panel is not lined up correctly with the front faceplate of the machine. I'm not sure if this happened in shipping, unboxing, or installation. So far the machine works fine, but since I did purchase the geek squad protection I'm going to call them out to take a look and hopefully fix it. This is why I gave it 4-stars. When it's fixed, I'll bump it up to 5. As I stated in my washer review, I hate that Best Buy pressures you to write reviews so quickly after purchasing an item. I've only had this unit for about 4 weeks, so I still feel it's too new to comment on reliability and prolonged use. I'll make updates if things go sour in the coming months.

We bought this dryer brand new in 2016, now in Jan. of 2019 (barely over 2 years old) we have already had to replace the belt and the heating unit in this dryer and now it is making another awful noise. I contacted Samsung and they set me up with a 3rd party repair man. After talking with him, I honestly didnt feel like he was reputable and was expensive. I told him I was not interested in his service and he came to my house (out in the country) the next day anyways and left a note on my door. I found that very odd! Needless to say, my grandfather has fixed the dryer for me everytime it has had issues but it is barely over 2 years old! I should not have to be fixing it this much already, especially for what I paid for it!! We are currently looking at buying something else, but I can promise you it will not be a Samsung dryer! I have the matching Samsung washer which has never gave me any trouble, but this dryer is a hunk of junk!

So far so good, this product was a cyber Monday deal. Great sale, the price was not only available at Best Buy; but also as Lowe's and Home Depot. Best was the only store that still had the dryer in-stock. I ended up purchasing an open box dryer, delivery was going to take too long (being the Holiday season). We bought the extended warranty and picked up the dryer ourselves. After unloading the dryer we found that the door was loose, simple fix...right. Tried to tighten the door up, but the screws would never tighten. Called Best Buy, spoke with the Geek Squad. GS stated that we had 2 options: they could send us new screws; or they could send us a new dryer (in the box). We went with the send us new screws option, they did. Unfortunately it did not fix the problem, we called the store back from which we purchased the dyer and I was on hold for 2 hours (no one picked up my call, the automated voice said 2 callers were ahead of me). Then I called another local store, the representative picked up on the 1st ring! He said the issue can be resolved, but I would have to call back to the store I purchased the dryer from. He gave me an extension to speak with someone so I would not be on hold like before. When I called the South Point location back, a representative answered and stated that the manager was out to lunch. He took my information and we hung up the phone. The manager did call back in an hour and ordered me a NEW dryer and set up delivery. Thank you!

I bought this dryer in October 2016 as an open-box item in excellent condition. It has always dried the clothes effectively, but was always noisy. In the last few months, it started making an additional clunking noise which I first thought was due to an imbalance of heavier items. A few weeks ago, I noticed a few large cracks in the drum of the dryer. When I contacted Samsung, they told me that someone would contact me about repairing it, but nothing would be covered because it was past the warranty period. I would have never heard of a dryer drum cracking and I would certainly expect a much better performance from a dryer of this price from a supposedly reputable company. This appears to be a substandard product if it only lasts 2 years or less with normal or light household use.

I've had this machine three days now and I'm real pleased. I've done a half dozen loads and I can say it's a pleasure to use. It thoroughly dries the clothes and all but 1 item have been wrinkle free. (The one wrinkled item was one pair of jeans in a big load; they recommend running jeans on a different setting; I'll try that. That being said, my other jeans came out wrinkle free on the "Normal" setting.) My prior dryer (a Maytag - more than 10 years old) took a lot longer to dry clothes. Perhaps it's because the Samsung's drum is horizontal -- does that help dry the clothes faster? Whatever it is, it does the job, in a very reasonable amount of time (far faster than my old one!). Some loads are done in 44 or so minutes. Bulkier items (comforters, blankets) take a little over an hour. That's perfectly OK with me. I like, too, the glass window. You can visually see when the clothes are dry (plus my dog finds it fascinating! LOL). I do not find it any noisier than any other dryer; I have a laundry room and a little hum is to be expected. No biggie. So much faster and efficient than my last dryer I just wanted to post a review! (I used the reviews in making my purchase; I found them very helpful and so am returning the favor!)

Last Samsung dryer died one month after the 5 yr. warranty was up. Replaced it with a Samsung because we were told it would fit the base we already had. When the new dryer arrived, it did NOT fit the base so we had to go back to buy another base for close to $300.00 and wait another week to put the utility room back together. Had we been given correct information, we would NOT have purchased another Samsung dryer. Neither my husband nor I can hear this dryer's buzzer, so if you want to catch clothes so they don't wrinkle, you can't go any further than the next room, or you will need to re-wash the load to get the wrinkles out , even when set on wrinkle prevent. You also need to press ON then dial in your setting, then START and when you press pause to grab clothing out to hang up a few pieces at a time, releasing the pause doesn't always mean it will keep tumbling. Many times you have to start all over by pushing ON, dialing in the setting, then pushing START to get the clothes tumbling. The 5 yr. old Samsung was more user friendly and the buzzer had level options which could be easily heard, but of course was discontinued so consequently the new dryer doesn't match the 5 yr. old washer.

My wife and I recently purchased a ten year old house and decided to purchased new Samsung appliances including a gas range, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and and new washer and dryer. My wife and I are very happy with our new Samsung electric dryer. I decided to dismantle the unit when it was delivered in order to modify the factory rear vent setup into a side venting unit. I went online and watched a video on how to do it . It was a little tense tearing apart our brand new dryer and then putting it all back together but it wasn't as difficult as I had initially thought that it would be. We did not want the back of our new Samsung dryer and washer to site 6 inches away from the wall. Our's now only sites 1-1/2" away from the wall giving us more room in front of both units. We look forward to enjoying our new appliances for many years.

I had it for barely over a year (just over the warranty period) when it started running for 10-15 min and shutting down with a hE error. This should have indicated a failed heating element. This was a dryer for a seasonal home, so it was used maybe 20 times before it failed. A call to Samsung was no help - despite being relatively new and barely outside of warranty, I was on my own. Chased down a copy of the tech manual, and started troubleshooting. Turns out, the entire dryer was rendered useless because of a $7 part (a thermistor buried deep inside on the blower motor vent). After replacing several other parts first, this one finally did the trick and the dryer was working again. Had I called out repair service, I would have paid $200-300 to repair a dryer that hadn't had more than a month's usage. The fact that this part could fail so easily (it's unprotected, right on the exhaust from the blower motor so it sees a lot of lint and dirt) means that you're on borrowed time. Buyer beware.

Purchased washer/dryer set in July 2016. In October 2018 original dryer belt tension pulley bearing froze up. Bought new pulley assembly & belt. When replacing pulley & belt noticed that 2 of the 4 drum support rollers had frozen bearings. Replaced all 4 support rollers. Cost of parts over $200. Replacement belt tension pulley failed within 60 days. Purchased a new replacement dryer instead of more parts as cost of parts approaching price of new dyer. Will use originally purchased dryer for parts. Washer seems to be performing well. If this were not the case would have replaced set with another brand. Samsung has definite quality issues with their bearing supplier. Common issue per the internet. In 45 years of owning dryers have never experienced such poor quality in bearings.

    Heating element issue

Bought this unit 2 1/2 years ago at Bestbuy when we purchased our new home (and the matching washer). We was about 3 loads a week - which I think is actually minimal for a family of 3. The heating element went out (the bracket with ceramic pegs that holds the heating element cracked, warped and caused the element to come free, it touched the metal housing and blue the thermo fuse). The replacement parts were $24, but it took about 4 hours to fix. You need to be fairly handy to do it. Long story short, if you want a dryer that lasts the 10-15 years expected, this isn't the unit for you.

I have owned this dryer for about 6 weeks. We are a really active family of 5- so my washer/dryer is going nearly every day!! This dryer has actually performed really well! Several different choices for size, time, drying temp etc...I can't imagine you would need anything more. I have a couple small things I've noticed which may help some one else. Cleaning the lint filter could definitely prove difficult for some one who has diminished use of fingers-- arthritis etc.....easy enough to check in the store, just have sales person show you how& see if you can manage...the other thing is more just an fyi... It does have a moisture sensor that doesn't work its best with only a couple items in the load-it will shut itself off as it doesn't sense any moisture- easy fix--just use timed dry-- it bypasses the sensor. Other than the above, I'd say this is perfect!
