      Hi Alex,

Thank you for your feedback on the Samsung AU8000 TV's sound and screen quality. Samsung prides itself on high-quality products and a great customer experience. Please know we are here to help you.

You mentioned already playing with some of the settings, but I will put a few below in case you have not yet tried them.

First, let's ensure you are running the latest firmware. You can check to see what software version your TV is using and if there is an available update through the settings on your TV Settings > Support > Software Update and then easily update from there if needed.

Next, there are a few things that could be enabled that are causing your screen to be too dark:

Dynamic Picture Mode will make pictures brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments. Go to Settings > Picture > Picture Mode > Dynamic.

You may want to disable Power Saving Mode, which automatically adjusts the brightness to reduce the TV’s power consumption. Go to Settings > General > Eco Solution> Power Saving Mode.

Ambient Light Detection will also automatically adjust the brightness level of the TV according to the ambient light level to reduce power consumption. If Ambient Light Detection has adjusted the screen brightness to a too bright or dark level, you can manually select Minimum Brightness to adjust the minimum screen brightness. Go to Settings > General > Eco Solution > Ambient Light Detection.

Last, you can manually adjust the Brightness, Contrast, and more. Press the HOME button on your remote, then navigate to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings.

For sound adjustments, please check out the following:

Auto Volume automatically adjusts the sound to a certain level when changing channels or switching to another external input.

Adaptive Volume automatically adjusts to a specific volume level while watching TV. The TV analyzes your volume usage history by time period to automatically adjust the volume when you use an app or switch to an external input source.

Several Sound Modes are available to meet your personal preferences: Home > Settings > Sound > Sound Mode.

Also, some sources have a volume control, which might be too low. Please check the volume control of the external device (cable box or satellite box, DVD, Blu-ray, etc.) connected to your TV. Also, check the cable connection between an external device and the TV and then try the cable connection again.

I hope this helps improve your audio and screen experience. Should you need further assistance or have any questions, please contact Samsung Customer Support at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8 AM - 12 AM EST, seven days a week. Or visit us on the Samsung website and click on the ‘Support’ link for:

      Hi Jesse,

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung AU8000 TV and for sharing your experience with your TV not displaying properly. You may want to try the following troubleshooting steps:

      1. If any external devices are connected, check all input cable connections.

      2. If the issue persists, define exactly what is wrong with the display. For example, mosaics and blocks, multiple lines or white dots, and fixed horizontal or vertical lines.

      3. Try changing channels using the remote control. Is the issue the same on all channels?

      4. Press the Home button (which looks like a house), select Source, and choose another input source. Is the issue the same on all sources?

      5. If the same problem persists, run a diagnostic test. (Home > Settings > Support > Device Care > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test)

      6. If the problem disappears during the test, check your TV signal (Home > Settings > Support > Device Care > Self Diagnosis > Signal Information) to check the signal strength. The signal strength must be more than 20 dB (more than 4 bars on the icon) for stable signal reception

Should your issue persist, please contact Samsung Customer Support at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8 AM - 12 AM EST, seven days a week. Our LiveChat agents are also available by clicking on the ‘Support’ link on our website.

      Hi Sunshinesage,

Thank you for purchasing Samsung's Crystal UHD 4K AU8000 Smart TV and for sharing your thoughts on the picture quality. If the picture you see out of the box is not to your liking, there are several picture settings you may want to try adjusting.

First, let's ensure your firmware is up to date. Please go to Settings> Support > Software Update. You can easily update the firmware from here.

Next, go to Home > Settings > Picture > Picture Mode and select the mode that best fits your usage:

      1) Standard: This is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments.
      2) Natural: Reduces eye strain for a comfortable viewing experience.
      3) Movie: It is suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.
      4) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
      5) Filmmaker Mode: You can watch the source content (e.g., movie) as it is. If the image is defined as Filmmaker Mode, it will automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode while watching.

You can also go to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > to manually fine-tune your image.

Kind of a crappy tv. The processor is so slow you press a button on the remove and there is a 1-2 second delay. If you are watching in a darkened room you can see minor scallop patterns along the edge of the screen. With fast motion across the screen there are weird halos around the moving object. Regardless of the settings. Going to upgrade soon. They won’t take it back just because “it sucks.” Lol
