First, let me start with a little background on how I ended up at the Q80R. I originally purchased an 82" Q6 QLED and was unhappy with too many aspects of the tv to keep it. The amount of artifacts and lackluster cable up-scaling was immediately apparent. I also believe 82" is too big for 4k resolution as the pixel density is not tight enough. Maybe 8K is better suited for 82" and up. It also had terrible glare in a bright room setting and the viewing angle was bad which would wash out colors and contrast if not sitting directly in front of the tv. Our living room has seating going all the way around so this did not work for us. It also left much to be desired in the motion category. Watching cable, it wouldn't take much speed or panning to make the Q6 stutter or completely pix-elate fast images trying to keep up. The edge lit dimming was also not very good in dark room movie watching, especially the blooming with white text on a black background. I decided to upgrade to the 2019 75" Q80R which was advertised to have great viewing angles, local dimming for nice black levels and new for 2019 Air Play 2 which is great for iPhone users. I can also confirm the pixel density on a 75" is better and makes the image appear sharper. PROS: -Black Levels: I have not noticed any blooming and the blacks are actually black. I also have a B8 OLED and it tends to crush black levels but gets inky black. The Q80R has more shadow detail in dark scenes when comparing the same content. For a bright room, I suggest going with the Q80R and save the OLED for your movie room. -Viewing Angle: The picture keeps rich colors and vibrancy at any angle. The colors do not wash out. Any seat in your living room will get the same excellent image. -Anti-reflective Coating: This feature works well with windows open and lights on. On a black screen, the glare appears to be a muted purple color. You can still see it, but once an image is shown on the screen, the brightness of the tv completely overcomes any glare. With sunlight shining directly on the tv, it still looks excellent. -AirPlay2: This is a cool feature I find myself using often. It is super easy to watch anything from your phone on the tv and no setup required, it just works. -Intelligent Brightness: I did not think I would use or like this feature but it does work well. It adjusts the back-light automatically for daytime and dims it down a bit as the light levels drop in the evening. The tv gets so bright I feel this is needed to keep brightness levels in check for watching at night. -Ring Camera Integration: The Q80R will display any RING camera on the tv with motion detected. On the Q6, it was just a notification and you had to click the notification to open the app to see the camera. On the Q80R, a pop up in the corner shows the actual camera feed and will jump from camera to camera as the motion detected moves around. I know as soon as someone steps on my property, I see them on the tv before they ever reach the door. This is possible via the SmartThings hub integration. -Lack of DSE: The Q80R has very little to no dirty screen effect. This was very obvious on the Q6 and was an eyesore. CONS: -Motion: The motion is not perfect, but is better than the previous Q6 I owned. Motion looks good with sports on cable, but oddly enough it struggles a bit with 4K streaming via the built in apps. I feel based on all of the other PRO's noted on this tv above, the motion is at an acceptable level. I hope they can improve this with future hardware updates. The only tv with better motion handling is SONY but it does not have a rich set of features like the Q80R. If you have a smart home, I suggest this TV over SONY as it will incorporate into SmartThings hub and tie into your smart home. If you don't care about all the extra features and just want a tv with very little to no motion issues, get a SONY. They are not perfect either but are noticeably better with motion. -Rainbow Effect: Due to the ant-reflective coating, there is a weird rainbow effect with overhead led recessed lighting which most new homes have. I have noticed this rainbow effect is not coming from reflection from windows, only led lighting. Luckily, the brightness of the tv completely overcomes this, but is still annoying with a black screen or dark scene. * I docked 1 star for the CONS, but I would have rated the Q6 a 3 star. If the motion can be updated via firmware to work better, I will update to 5 star. Do yourself a favor and get the Geek Squad warranty, the 82" Q6 developed a white line across the screen after 6 months. If that had happened after 1 year, I would be SOL and stuck with a broken tv. I bought the 5 year warranty for my Q80R and is worth the peace of mind IMO.
