From OLED back to LED the Q90T is the one I'd pick

The 75" Q90T is an excellent TV with very few flaws. This is the main TV in my living room and I have owned it less than a week. It replaced a 65" OLED65B6P LG TV that I bought from Best Buy in 2016. The B6P was also an excellent TV, but there are a few reasons why I moved from OLED back to an LED backlit TV, like the QLED.
First, the OLED65B6P was the first and only OLED I have ever purchased. I even reviewed it a few months after I bought it, where I rated it a 4 out of 5, maybe a 5 out of 5. I heaped huge praise for it's picture quality, as it was indeed the best picture money can buy. The perfect blacks and contrast, the way movies looked so much better than my older TVs, it was great. For between 4-5k, depending on taxes, additional items like protection plans, wall mounts, etc., it certainly wasn't cheap. It was also a middle of the road OLED, not even the flagship model. But it was, at the time, the best picture I had ever viewed on a TV.
After owning the OLED for a few months, one of the biggest flaws with that TV was that it just wasn't very bright. You could adjust settings and play with the Picture to your taste, but it just didn't feel like enough to me. One workaround I found was that almost everything from TV shows, to Movies, to Gaming worked best while the B6P was in Gaming mode. Things just popped better in game mode on the OLED. Brights were brighter and darks were always inky black. However, where the B6P let me down was it's longevity. After at least 2 years I had noticed image retention where logos, and tickers were commonly situated for certain stations. I only used gaming mode when playing a game after that. This was cleared up by running noise clearance or the pixel fixing app, but, it always came back, and more frequently as time went on.
Around 2.5 years in and my fears about the rumors with OLED came to life...burn in. It was permanent and it was a gut punch. The first image I noticed was the golf channel logo in the lower right corner of the screen. My father in law, who would come over often to either visit, or watch our kids while my wife and I worked, watched the Golf channel a lot. I also found out he would switch the TV to gaming or sports modes and leave the TV in these modes, all day, regardless of what he was watching. I found out later he would frequently pause the screen for "bathroom breaks" or to eat lunch, despite my warnings and asking him not to do so. 2.5 years of this and even pixel shifting and noise clearance couldn't repair the damage done.
By 3 years, I noticed what looked like banding across the screen in odd spots. Burn in of HUDS from gaming were noticeable when the screen was completely saturated with individual bright colors like Green, Blue, Red, Orange, and Yellow. The B6P is still watchable, but it only works best for movies and TV or when the screen has more natural colors and blacks. It is now relegated to the basement.
So, 6 years with an OLED, 2 of which where I enjoyed the best picture and tech immensely, and I was in the market for upgrading to a 75" TV. I was soured on spending so much money on another OLED, despite improvements that have been made in more recent models to protect against the issues my B6P developed. I have two other Samsung TVs. I have a 37" in my bedroom and a 40" that was in my basement. Both Samsung's are 2008-2009 models and both are still running strong with no burn in and no issues, other then being outdated after 11-12 years.
After considering my OLED woes, and keeping my eye on reviews of the Q90T, I felt compelled to pick one up and see if QLED was up to snuff. I wanted to make sure I did everything to mitigate that feeling of disappointment I experienced with my OLED, after only a couple of years and spending so much money. However, I also wanted a TV with an excellent picture, zero risk of burn in, good for gaming, a thin profile, and definitely bigger than 65". With the price drop of the Q90T, and about $1,200 in gift cards and B-day cash, and I got this TV for less than $1,700.00 with a protection plan and wall mount. Considering the original price of the TV, I was very happy with the cost.
My first impression when picking the Q90T up was this thing is immense...much bigger than I thought it was going to be from my 65" OLED. The screen is 10" bigger, but it just seems larger than it really is. It's also thin, for a backlit full array TV, but it is heavy and an awkward weight to shuffle around. The sheer size of this thing is impressive. If you pick it up, have a mid-sized or large SUV, or pickup to get it. A Pilot will do, maybe even a Highlander, or an Ascent. Any pickup will also get the job done, but don't even bother if you have something like a Forester, Rav4, CR-V, Rogue, Escape, etc. The box will not fit in any of them...unless you want to get brave and take the TV our of the box for transport. Or, just have it delivered. I wanted to save 177+ on tax, so I picked it up in Delaware.
The positives for the Q90T: First, the picture is so much brighter than my OLED was. I feel like at night my living room must look like a lighthouse from the outside looking in, and I have adjusted the settings based on expert recommendations, and the brightness is only at 13. This TV shines for shows and pictures where there are bright settings and backgrounds compared to the OLED. Contrast is very good with the full array, though of course, my OLED still has darker blacks. The difference, in my opinion, is not as much as one might think, and I only really notice it where the screen for pictures should be almost white in certain spots and black in others, with no gradual separation between the different colors. If I had never owned an OLED, I likely would never have noticed this. Again, this is not as bad as one might think. I played the movie Gravity on my B6P, the Q90T and my older LN40. Scenes where the Earth was in view with outer space in the background did look slightly better on the OLED where you look specifically at the contrast between the bright portion of the curvature of the Earth and where space began. However, the QLED was much better when there were scenes with fast motion, like when the astronauts where spinning around quickly and the Earth and Outer Space were tumbling in and out of view. This might be because of the Q90T's faster processing of the images, and the speed with which it can change a dark scene to light and vice versa. I feel like the Q90T is just much quicker when the action on the screen gets more intense and things change quickly with the picture.
Next, the Q90T is much better for gaming. The latency is almost non-existent in gaming mode. I had some of my best games playing battlefront 2 Supremacy the first night I bought the TV. The increased size helps to see everything better and in more detail, especially when enemies are farther away. I never have issues with screen tearing, or speed. I did have to play around with some of the Contrast settings and Color settings from the base settings, but check out "rtings" and others for some recommendations. Some of the colors for character icons in selection menus, pre-game, looked saturated and not very realistic, but this is easily corrected in the settings.
Third, the Tizen OS is different from LG's WebOS, but both are very similar. They both utilize tiles for different apps and options at the bottom ribbon on the screen. I am new to Tizen as my two prior Samsung's are not smart TVs, so I am still learning and will try and provide on update on my thoughts. 4 years with WebOS and it is tough for me to make a call on which is better.
One thing I wish the Q90T had was a dedicated Source Button on the remote. The magic remote is minimalistic for sure, but I switch sources constantly and there is plenty of room on the remote for such a button. Having an ambient mode button and not a dedicated source button is a little bonkers to me. Samsung should change this with next years model.
Fourth, the sound is better on the QLED. The Speakers in the Q90T are very good and get very loud. They don't have a ton of punchy bass but when needed, they can fill a room. Sure a sound bar and surround sound will always be better, but out of the box, the Q90T has much better speakers than my B6P. I guess that is to be expected when considering 40W to 60W speakers.
Overall, the only downside to the Q90T is the contrast and black levels compared to the OLEDs, which honestly is so minimal, and likely unimportant or noticeable to the general public considering how far QLEDs have come. For me, the comfort in knowing that image retention and burn in are not factors at all with the VA panel for the Q90T makes this trade off more than worth it. Gaming and Sports are also important to me, so the Q90T wins there too because of it's low lag and brightness.
Overall I am happy with my purchase, and if not for the experience of perfect darks with the B6P, or the minimalist remote with no dedicated source button, I probably would have given this a 5 out of 5. Also, I am not trying to dump on OLEDs or those who prefer them. I was extremely disappointed when my TV developed burn in. There are risks with OLEDs, but the risks are more severe depending on how you use them. As a secondary TV, that wouldn't get much use, an OLED would likely be fine for many years. Also, the pausing of screens, the maxing out of certain modes and settings will all contribute to shortening the life of an OLED. At least that is my experience. For me, avoiding this issue all together when spending a significant amount of money was the only decision and I highly recommend the Q90T.
I plan to update this when I have had more time with the TV.

So, I've had this for almost a week now and went through the paces with this tv. At this price point, I'm assuming the tv should be 5 Stars so I'll start from there.
This tv is incredible. I upgraded from a Samsung 75" 4K bought in 2014 or 2015. I can't recall when but it was probably a 2nd or 3rd gen LED 4K tv. My old tv was definitely long in the tooth. Everyone on the screen was bright orange, and I also had severe DSE on the screen on every scene. I guess DSE is a problem with LED tv's. At the time, my old screen was the bomb. Everything looked awesome when I got it. Man...I didn't know what I was missing.
I was totally blown away while watching a show on broadcast tv on Comcast. I could actually see the weave of fabric on a black jacket and we all know that Comcast only sends a 720P signal. The upscaling is incredible.
The darks are really dark, and this tv does an excellent job on the shades of black and grey. I re-watched the Long Night episode from GOT and it was like watching it for the first time. When I first watched that episode on my old screen I couldn't see much, it was all so dark. But this screen brought it to life, especially when Dragroon was throwing fire all over the place.
4K content is exceptional. Watching the Expanse is like watching it for the first time. The same with Supernova and Prometheus. The stars really shine and sparkle.
I really paid attention to extreme angles. On my old screen, you could see a fuzzy artifact around text at extreme angles. There was also a bit of a temporary burn in issue when watching a channel like CNN that had a permanent banner on the screen. I haven't noticed this effect on this screen.
I can't really say anything about the audio. I have a high end sound system that passes through the video to the tv. So, I haven't used the built in speakers. Really, for this size of tv, it shouldn't have speakers. Which, leads me to my first negative.
Unless you have a supported soundbar, this tv will not recognize your sound system. It's no big deal with a harmony remote but this did lead to issues during setup. -.125 stars.
About the Anti-Glare coating and the "Rainbow effect"...yes that really is an issue on this screen. This screen handles bright light very well. My windows face west, and are 90 degrees to the screen. For about 30 minutes a day, it will directly hit the screen at a 90 degree angle. This tv seems to handle it with no issue.
The problem comes from low wattage sources like electric candles in a window at an angle to the tv. I have noticed a streak across the screen and it's really bad when a dark scene is on the screen. -.25 stars.
The remote and the Tizen OS is where I'm most critical. The remote is cheap, small, and basically useless. The remote is definitely no friend of the elderly or those with poor sight. There is no number key pad on the remote. It feels cheap, like you don't even want to use it. -.125 stars
As for Tizen, well it freezes for no reason. Somehow I locked my remote and the OS in such a way that I could only access the tv menu through my Harmony Remote. And I wasn't even trying to use an app through the Tizen OS. Luckily, I could use my Harmony remote to get into the menu settings on the tv. I don't believe that the same problem others have experienced is related to any specific app, but is a flaw in the OS itself. -.5 Stars.
One Connect and connections in general - I really liked the one connect box. When mounting a tv, it's great having only two wires coming down the wall. This generation dropped the one connect box. Luckily, I have a receiver that has multiple inputs and will pass through 4k content to the HDMI out, and it supports HDMI 2.1. My setup is such that wires are still somewhat hidden. The problem comes if you need to switch, remove or add a connection. You will need to get behind the screen. Make sure your mounting bracket will telescope out. I'm not deducting any stars.
Geek Squad - they were incredible. I can not add or subtract any stars for the installation as it's not the tv's fault. I will say that I got excellent delivery time, they were prompt, courteous, and wore masks. They did an excellent job at mounting the tv. My issue with them was the setup process. They accepted all the conditions to use the hub and smart apps without considering that I didn't want that. Also, when setting up the sound, they kept trying to connect to a sound bar that was very clearly not in the room. They just need better training to pay attention to the equipment in the room.
Overall, this tv was a huge upgrade from my old screen. I'm very happy with it, even though it cost more than I really wanted to spend. I'd totally recommend this to my friends and family.

Wow, what an incredible picture! Replaced an older Samsung Qdot TV which I thought was as good as it could get but I was wrong - this one tops it by a large margin. We had in-home installation, at 80+ lbs, too big and too expensive to mess with. Already had a big Sanus mount for the previous TV and all the Geek Squad had to do was move it up 5 or 6". BTW, they did a great job! Never used the Geek Squad before since I'm as much a geek as they are! But 80lbs is 80lbs...
First, I was also considering an OLED until I learned they might be subject to burn-in, wife leaves the TV on all day just for background noise (usually on QVC) so I nixed OLED immediately.
Beyond just a superb picture, the viewing angle is superior to our previous KS8000 model. At 160deg+ off the centerline, I do notice a little irregularity on a flat white field and its a little noticeable on a moving image (we had Youtube running at the time) - but on axis and at a more normal viewing aspect, no problem at all.
Samsung's app store and its menu bar can be a pain - I still haven't figured out how to move an app around or remove it from the home screen.

I returned another tv (vizio) and threw in a few extra bucks for this one. The differences in quality can be noticed as soon as you open the box. What an amazing design. It just feels like your money has been spent well.
Gaming on a ps4pro has been such an upgraded experience, I feel like I'm already gaming on next gen (ps5). Graphics, color, brightness, unbelievable.
Streaming is great, awesome upscaling HD to 4k. Unfortunately, it does not have Dolby vision, which I prefer. I feel like with this much money, I should have Dolby vision. So I'm considering my options, because this tv is FAR superior than even most samsung 8k tvs, all Vizios, and sonys are a joke this year (if you care about hdmi 2.1).
I will be switching to an OLED, which carries a risk, but I want Dolby vision. If this isn't important to you, then this tv will absolutely blow you away. Next gen gaming will be even more amazing with it's native 1080p,1440p, and 4k resolutions. Most TV's don't support 1440p (which will be relevant to next gen gaming at higher frame rates) and instead they upscale 1080p to 1440p. The ps5/XsX will be upscaling 1440 to as close to 4k as they can when they can't hit native 4k in some fast paced multiplayer modes. So these things will look much better when starting from 1440, and not 1080.
I appreciate this tv. It's one of the only TV's where Rtings has actually gotten most of the next gen features to work.
Smart platform is solid. No issues at all.

4K content looks great. The colors are vibrant. Full array backlighting is terrific. I am very impressed with black images. I upgraded from a 1k plasma and blacks are just as good. With cheaper sets they look grey. Install was pretty easy. I upgraded my tv stand due to the increased weight. The remote was a challenge to open to install batteries until I looked at a YouTube video. Q90t is presently the best class of 4K tv’s from Samsung. A lot of content is still 1k or less. So, going to 8k did not make sense yet. I thought about getting 85”, but 75” is big enough and 85” was hard to get. I had 50” before. I would buy this again.

Both picture quality and sound are top notch. Before listening to the tv audio I was planning on getting a surround sound system but once I heard how superb the sound quality and volume was I dismissed that thought. It's ease of use is excellent especially with the help of the voice command remote. And the brightness is no joke, I attempted at viewing with max brightness for a day and I received a headache in return, lesson learned. Only complaint I guess there could be for me is I wish the thing was lighter since at the time I had to lift it onto a TV stand myself lol.

I bought the 75" Q90R almost a year ago, it was a bear to adjust, as it seemed to keep changing the settings on its own.
I finally got the right combination of setting anything AUTO to off, and a few other things, and it seemed more stable.
But the picture was just off, I ran several YouTube B&W & color setup test patterns, and it looked better, but was still off, I finally just started playing with the brightness (where min black is) and contrast (where max white is) settings to see what their ranges were, and while doing that, found that reducing contrast to between 9-12 made the best picture, though it wasn't as bright as test pattern adjustments provided, but my eyes got used to it.
I decided to dispense with test patterns, and just adjust based on faces, it took having a low contrast of 9, but the change to faces were particularly stunning, almost magical, amazing to look at when it was "right", a dramatic difference.
So all looked good, I primarily watch dark movies, all the superhero, space, film noir type (Batman) movies, and was happy with the picture, I saw no evidence of crush where a starry background would be devoid of stars that I was worried about.
But after a month or so my girlfriend started watching more brighter movies (after my "heavy use" trial period of favorite 4k movies), and occasionally I would think that the horizontal center of the screen appeared to be a bit "golden", which looked OK on some color landscape shots, but then I went through a phase a month later of watching a lot of black & white shows & movies, mostly due to getting a streaming service with Twilight Zone, and I noticed a distinct yellowing in the center third of the screen. My girlfriend hadn't noticed, so for a while I thought it was an effect of the somewhat prismatic anti-glare screen, and she sat a bit to the left of screen center, while I sat further over to the right.
Then we got a new couch, and now I sit on the left and she on the right of center, and I clearly see the yellow center so don't think it is the glare screen, it is distracting, and frankly ruins a black & white movie IMO, and many bright sky scenes in color movies show it, as it never goes away unless we watch a dark film noir, which she doesn't like. It looks like the screen is built from 3 panels, with the slightly off-center panel being yellowish, no matter how I adjust it, I can't say for sure it was like that at first, or got worse over time. I just didn't notice it at first.
Meanwhile every so often I notice the picture is off and darker, I go into Settings/Picture/Picture Mode, and find that as I select a different mode, it suddenly gets a lot brighter, then going back to the original mode it looks ok, which means it lost the setup for that mode that I first noticed, but restored it when I selected different modes then go back to the first (usually FilmMaker), this seems to be a software bug, it happens about once a month or more.
I just checked it again while writing this review, because the picture looked dim, and again just cycling through all picture modes back to the original, it got a lot brighter!
Occasionally I find an auto feature like ECO or judder that gets turned on again, and I didn't change it. And occasionally the judder (turned off on all modes and devices) and voice sync is bad, voice sync seems to be an increasing problem, and isn't correctable with the Sound delay adjustment, it could be that way because we dropped cable and stream everything now, and I've read of some stream voice sync issues.
So I think this TV is a bit buggy re the software, and unless you are willing to play with it a lot (I'm a certified electronics technician), it may not have the picture quality or stability you require.
It is unfortunate, because a lot of what this TV does it does very well, and for much of what I watch, it is great, I just wish I determined the yellow center problem earlier in the break-in process, where I could maybe get a replacement screen, I actually will not recommend this TV if you watch alot of Black & White shows, though would hope it is just an issue with MY TV, I haven't seen any others, or reports of the yellow center.
Other issues are:
* loses connection to the remote about once a week, batteries are new and near 100%
* doesn't always turn on the Denon receiver on startup (30+%)
* can't setup like a "normal" entertainment center, where my Denon 7.1 receiver is the hub of the cable/blu-ray/streaming input, with the TV just doing the display part. It would never send the signal to select the correct receiver input (blu-ray/cable) when I change inputs, Samsung support says it is not setup to do that, but it does since when I open up the blu-ray tray while watching cable, it selects blu-ray on the receiver, so it knows how to do it, but doesn't when changing inputs on the tv with the remote! (I have new premium 4k cables) So the TV has to be the hub, with eARC sending a single audio signal to the receiver, I find that unacceptable, and always question whether I am getting Atmos or DTS-X on the receiver.
* Powering down doesn't always turn off all connected devices
* way too easy to hit the Netflix, Prime or Samsung TV buttons accidentally, these buttons should be configurable to disable.
Overall I call this GOOD, GREAT if you watch darkish shows and don't mind the quirks, mostly because it doesn't have burn-in, which my last plasma TV had severely. But more and more I think I got a lemon, with the yellow screen, maybe I'm sensitive, and maybe the quirks will get resolved with firmware updates.

So like most people looking at TVs in this price range I did my due diligence and read every review on the internet about the Samsung line up, LG, Vizio, and others. This was on sale since retailers are clearing the way for the next generation of TVs so my perception of the value is a bit slanted because of the discount. It's a fantastic TV though. HDR content looks incredible and the brightness is out of this world. This replaced a 55" Vizio my wife and I bought when we moved into our first home and it is night and day. It's like replacing a 99 toyota camry with a Maserati. If you have the money you won't be disappointed. The only caveat is that the remote is an odd shape and can easily be lost in a couch with really deep comfy cushions.

After much research, this is truly an amazing TV. Color is vibrant, the best I’ve experienced. I settled for the 75” and it’s still huge. My living room is 25x30 and it’s the perfect size without having to move my head to watch a larger screen. Smart TV allows me to watch Amazon Prime movies, and every video APP out there (ie HBO, Disney+, etc.). Sound bar isn’t needed. However I’m purchasing one anyway. It won’t stay connected to my former Vizio sound bar. So a Samsung sound bar is required for the best front sound. I’ve had two Vizio’s which lasted 4 years a piece. I purchased those because of the lower price, and wished I’d saved my money and invested more to buy the Samsung Q90 series in the first place. Well worth the picture color and vibrancy. If you can afford a little more, or can wait and save up to buy this one, it’s worth it. I wish it was less expensive. So I’m rating value as lower. It’s the best TV I’ve owned as far as quality. But I think it’s still higher priced than it should be. Samsung could do better on price.

I love perfect tv ..
I really like this TV overall and am happy with my purchase. I ran some 4K demo videos through the built-in YouTube app and the 4K picture is absolutely beautiful. The one minor gripe is that the blacks aren't truly black, as is the case with all LCD screens, but unless you're going to pony up the money for an OLED, that's just the way it's going to be. The sound quality is also quite good from the TV's built in speakers.
I only have a couple of minor complaints overall about the TV. The first is that I'm not really a fan of the modern style "minimalist" remote. Call me old fashioned, but I would prefer to have a number pad, especially when using the built-in Spectrum TV app to watch my cable TV channels. But if it really bothers me that much I assume I could probably buy a universal remote to use with the TV
My other minor complaint is that I don't really like the "stand" that came with the TV. My old Samsung TV had a really nice swivel stand that allowed me to turn the TV from side to side, depending on where in the room I was sitting. This TV only has 2 "feet" for a stand, so no swiveling of the TV is really possible. Here again, I can probably remedy this by buying an after-market universal TV stand that will swivel if I want to.
Overall I am very satisfied with this TV and would definitely recommend it.

I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this television and narrowed my list down to the LG OLED and Samsung QLED series. I am extremely impressed by some of the changes Samsung has introduced with this television and especially impressed with the noticeable improvements to the black levels and sharp picture quality!
This is an exceptional TV that will take your entertainment experience to the next level, you can't go wrong with this 75" QLED.

Once it was all set up my 75" Q90T was way bigger than I ever dreamed. The picture is incredible, the ease of use with the remote is very simple and setup is very quick, but I suggest 2 people to set everything up because with and without the stand it's very heavy (I was able to do it by myself but given the option I'd have gotten someone else to help). It's a stellar TV.

Bright vivid high resolution picture. On our previous Samusng TV, we used to set the display setting to "dynamic" to give the color more of a pop. On this set, the color is already adequately saturated making the the dynamic setting too intense. Overall a great TV with very high contrast, deep black, and very even lighting.

I bought a Samsung Q90T. It's heavier than I thought especially since it is so big. Really need two grown men. I didn't pay for the set up service and wish I would have.
The TV it's self is awesome, very happy a little over a month later. My wife watched a Netflix 4k documentary and said hey it looks just like at the store. I had an old Samsung and I hated the "smart" part of the TV but we love the new improved version. Very easy set up with all the apps just scanned the QR code on the tv and it was set up in a couple minutes for all the apps like Netflix, Disney + etc.
Went from 65 inch to 75 inch and there is a big difference. Can't wait until football season next year.

I’ve owned several Samsung TVs over the years, and this one takes the cake. Picture is crystal clear, it has amazing contrast and color. And it looks amazing while gaming. Even with a lot of natural light in the room the tv is still very viewable.

In 2007 I bought a 40inch Samsung that was around the same price as this TV. I bought a cheap Samsung a year and a half ago, less than $1k for a 60 inch. It was horrible. I decided to spend the money again on a higher end TV. I AM SO HAPPY!!!!! I told my wife I am beyond happy and she doesn't have to worry about my complaints any further. Setup, easy. Picture, amazing. I didn't go with OLED because I have little kids and they will leave the TV on. The extra 10" for the 85" for another $1k wasn't worth it for me. Do not hesitate on spending the $$ on this TV. I watch a movie with the kids and wasn't focused on the blacks not blending or the slow movement. I promise, you will not regret this purchase, save the money and get the Q90, pass on the OLED!

Overall, I love this TV. Great price and the picture quality is amazing. I was worried about how different black shades would be presented in movies and it’s just perfect compared to OLED. It will not obviously be “true black” like on an OLED, but it looks “true black” 9/10 times. I think only a TV expert could tell the difference to be honest.
The Samsung interface is nice, but it could be better. I find it hard to customize.
Wifi strength and reception is very good and I have zero issues getting 4K picture.
The only issue I have had is that if I don’t use the TV for 3 days, the TV says it doesn’t have a wifi connection. I wait 5 min and it’s back. Not a major problem, but annoying.

Fantastic television! I could not imagine why anyone would want a television the size, until I had it a week. Fantastic detail in every scene with no distortion and blur even at high speed action scenes. Coupled with my surround sound system will really bring movies to life. It is heavier than expected, but this thing is huge! Has plenty of inputs and outputs available for custom installations and an extensive menu of options to fit the most difficult entertainment systems. It does take a while to set up and get all the adjustments to your liking so plan on spending at least 2 days with your television while your spouse goes shopping with the girls.
