I would highly recommend this TV. The picture depth, details, and clarity are exceptional. We rewatched True Lies on it and were amazed at how much more detail there was even in a 1990's movie.

Big and heavy tv. Glad the wal can support it. The picture isnt as good as a sony bravia but the cost is definitely better.

Good but not great. The brightness is just acceptable, lacks Dolby Vision and DTS pass through but not a deal breaker for me. I have read that the S90 is the better tv and price is higher. I like the S85 OLED but it’s not a WOW over my 2022 Neo Q85 model 75”. It definitely takes time to dial in the picture which is typical. However, at $1499 I couldn’t pass it up. Excuse the unfinished setup, still working on soundbar and fireplace.

Game mode is amazing with the PS5, would recommend this to any gamerz.

Dynamic mode is the bold, vibrant option for those who want everything to pop, while Movie and Filmmaker modes are tailored for a more cinematic experience. Personally, I prefer Movie mode—it brings out the details in dark scenes and gives everything a natural warmth that’s perfect for late-night viewing. Calibration enthusiasts will appreciate the easy access to Expert settings. If you’re diving into these, I highly recommend checking out online calibration guides from reputable TV review websites. Every OLED panel has slight variances, so fine-tuning can make a noticeable difference. Quick aside, you will probably not enjoy using the “Picture Clarity” feature on the TV if you are someone who easily notices when a picture is distorted, or, if you can notice moments of motion that do not look right. I ensure that Picture Clarity is turned off before every movie I watch and keep it turned off for watching all kinds of regular content too. Picture Clarity causes too many visual artifacts and distortions, even on low settings, for me to recommend using it. I recommend keeping this setting off. For gamers, HDMI 2.1 unlocks 4K at 120Hz, making this an excellent choice for next-gen consoles or gaming PCs. Whether you’re swinging through the city in Spider-Man: Miles Morales or exploring the stunning vistas of Forza Horizon 5, this TV delivers smooth, responsive gameplay with vibrant visuals. I tested the 120Hz refresh speeds using my gaming PC and had a great time playing Cyberpunk 2077, Night City looked absolutely colorful and crisp. OLED Considerations Let’s talk about OLED care. Burn-in is always a concern, but Samsung includes tools to keep your panel healthy. Features like pixel shift and logo brightness adjustments work behind the scenes to prevent static images from leaving a mark. If you’re a fan of news channels or sports with constant tickers, make sure these settings are enabled. They’re there for a reason, and they’ll save your screen in the long run. The Missing Pieces: DTS and Dolby Vision Now, here’s my main gripe with this TV: the lack of Dolby Vision and DTS audio pass-through. For a modern high-end product, these omissions are glaring. Dolby Vision has become the gold standard for HDR content, offering dynamic metadata that adjusts scene by scene to deliver the best possible picture. Samsung’s reliance on HDR10+ is fine, but it doesn’t quite reach the same level of detail and precision as Dolby Vision. The absence of DTS support is equally disappointing. Final Thoughts The Samsung S84D OLED is a gorgeous mid-range TV that delivers where it counts. The picture quality is astounding, with vivid colors, deep blacks, and just enough peak brightness to make HDR10 content immersive and enjoyable. The design is sleek and modern, and Tizen OS provides a feature-rich platform that integrates well with other devices. But the lack of Dolby Vision and DTS audio support is hard to overlook. For those who demand the best from their home theater setup, these omissions might steer you toward other brands. However, if you’re willing to compromise on those features, this TV offers incredible value, especially if you find it on sale. This is the perfect choice for someone who wants a stunning display, smooth smart features, and solid gaming performance without stepping into flagship territory.
