I've bought/replaced three Samsung TVs in the last month, all damaged or defective out of the box. The first one was a S90C thats back light was DOA. Amazon issued a refund for that one. The last two were the S89C from Best Buy which are identical to the S90C. The first one purchased from Best Buy buy had a huge spot of dead pixels out of the box, Best Buy was good about getting a replacement to me which arrived 72 hours later. But 20 minutes after setup was completed for the replacement, a bright red stuck pixel emerged on the top of the screen. This makes it a hat trick of damaged or defective TVs that are all basically the same model. And while the picture quality is amazing for what you pay for it but The build quality of these TVs is absolute trash. We shouldn't spend thousands of dollars on these just to have the product be damaged during shipping or taking it out of the box and putting feet on it.
For transparency the second and third TVs were handled by professional installers during unboxing and setup. The third TV was unboxed by a team contracted through Best Buy which I paid an extra $200.00 to have setup done. Which they were friendly, professional, and timely and the TV was in perfect working order when they left.

Tv had an issue on bottom left (crack) in screen so they are replacing it next week but it would not upload in the Smart hub very very frustrating - so frustrating that we are giving back the Samsung and getting the SONY Bravia OLED 77”. Lots of people online have issue with this SMART HUB on Samsung so I’m not dealing - it cost me another $800 to get to SONY but I want easy quick no issues —

The first thing I have to mention about the Samsung S89C 77” OLED tv is how well the packaging is designed.
I was able to remove the tv from the box and install the legs by myself due to the very clever packaging and the easy to follow instructions included in the box.
Also included with the tv is a solar remote control. This remote does not use batteries. You charge it with a usb-c cable and when you are not using it you turn it on its back and expose the solar panel to any light. This will extend the life of each charge of the remote.
The remote is small, very comfortable in your hand and very intuitive. It is not backlit, but I found that to be unnecessary as I never had to look at the remote while using it. There are preset buttons for Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Samsung+.
The settings button is also very useful.
There are also cable clips and a back cover which are provided for cable management.
Once out of the box you are immediately impressed with the design of the tv.
It is extremely thin and premium looking.
Setup was simple and the user interface guides you through the process.
The tv comes set in Eco mode. I changed it to Standard, but you can choose from Filmmaker, Movie and Dynamic also.
The picture quality was fantastic, though I had to change the color temperature to warm, which I recommend. It was very bright with great contrast. Blacks are very black which contrasts with the bright whites without any blooming or bleeding into each other. I watched NFL games which were clear, bright and smoothe.
Movies were very enjoyable to watch, even cable tv was crystal clear with exceptional detail and natural skintones.
The quality of the sound, produced by the 40 watt speakers was much better than anticipated. And you can amplify the sound which makes dialogue much clearer. I found the voices to be very accurate. I will connect a soundbar at a later date, but until then I am content with the tv speakers.
Other features include:
4 HDMI 2.1 ports including an eArc.
Dolby Atmos
HDR and HDR+
Bluetooth 5.2
Alexa voice controls built-in, however also works with Google Assistant.
You can share the tv screen with your phone or laptop.
I guess the best way to show how impressed I am with this tv is the fact that I have two 75” quantum dot lcd tvs in my house, but since I got this tv I don’t watch them anymore. I find myself going to this tv first.
One thing I didn’t like is that you are forced to sign up for a Samsung account. I skipped this during setup, but then when I tried to install Paramount+ it would not allow it until I created the Samsung account. I have not had this issue with any other tv, and I found it to be annoying and intrusive.
I would also like Samsung to support Dolby Vision.
Overall I am very happy with this tv. It has met or exceeded every expectation that I had.
A beautiful detailed picture, and a very intuitive user interface and remote control.
I would recommend this tv to everyone.

We’ve had this TV for 7 months and just came home from a trip to find the screen in the floor completely shattered. The back of the TV is still attached the to mount but the screen completely came unglued and fell to the floor damaging our hardwood in the process. If our kids were home and playing under it like usual it could have killed them. DO NOT BUY THIS TV!!

I usually don't shop at BestBuy, but I figured it looked like a good deal. The TV was on sale for $1800 off! However, when I brought the TV home, I noticed the packaging was disheveled and after getting it on the stand, I noticed a scratch on the bezel. It was apparent BestBuy sold me a returned tv... Couldn't get a hold of anyone at the store. Live chat and call center told me to return the tv.... Huge pain.... Lessen learned.... Don't shop here.
Also, the same tv that was listed for $3,599 with $1,800 off. Is now listed for $2,299 with $100 off. Scam?

Samsung 77” OLED TV
Another great TV from Samsung! This must have TV is one of the best Pictures I have seen. You never can tell how good a TV is going to look on the showroom floor. I have to say that I was not disappointed in what I received. I installed this TV in my basement, and I enjoy entertaining while watch NFL games. This is going to blow them away!
The colors are vibrant - the reds pop out, in addition to all the other colors. They say the QLED is a darker black – the black in the TV is great. I couldn’t tell you how great this comes out. They have done a great job on the darkness, and you couldn’t tell the difference. Perhaps if you had two screens side by side in a dark room, you might be able to notice the color contrast.
The sound that comes out of this is truly amazing: clean, clear sound. The bass is the only thing missing if you wanted surround sound, but you could easily connect a sound bar or subwoofer, if desired. You don’t have to really turn the volume to have to hear it. I don’t know how they did it because the TV is so slim it’s not like they have a lot of room to put big speakers in the TV for the sound that come out from it. This has Surround sound supported Doubly Audio. This will connect to a sound bar from Bluetooth or Optic cable.
The TV has 4 HDMI inputs it has a dedicated port for your gaming device. The remote will turn on your XBOX, which is an awesome feature. The XBOX app is also on the homepage where you can launch your XBOX by streaming without your console. I am an avid XBOX player and I can really appreciate this feature. I’m old-school and still have my console connected to the new TV with an HDMI cable.
The refresh rate is 120H, which is the same on a QLED - nothing different except the darkness of the black. The TV works with Amazon, Alexa, or Google Assistant. The streaming works with Apple TV, Disney, HBO Max, Netflix, Prime Video, and has Spotify and YouTube ready to go. Samsung is one of the few TV that works with DIRECTV stream. I use DIRECTV stream and enjoy using only 1 remote. I can now eliminate the use of the additional Roku remote now.
The remote control is so easy to use. Setting up the TV is simple - you can use the remote or use your phone for easy set up. The TV is smart capable and FreeSync Premium (AMD Adaptive sync) this makes it go fast between devices so it’s seamless. Samsung did a great job with the packaging. I was able to break the box apart and assemble the TV and stand by myself.
Overall, I can tell you the in’s and out of this TV, but if you’re looking to buy one, you have probably already done all of your research about the TVs on the market. This has been one of the best TVs I’ve owned - from the out of the box experience to the set up. The color and sound are just awesome. In my opinion, this is the best TV out on the market today. You will enjoy your new TV for days to come – especially if you’re a sports fan! There is no lag in the game from refresh rate and the audio is not bad. Like I said, I do have a sound bar, but it’s not needed since the sound is great from such a slim TV. I can’t wait to have more people over to watch the game and enjoy the view like being at the game.

Recieved a defective product, spoke to best buy, they recently changed their policy im unable to return it. They transferred me over to the manufacturer samsung. Spoke to samsung reps, First they said I had to speak to best buy because i purchased it from them, i explained that best buy support transfered me to then and that they had just changed the policy this year. Samsung is sending out a technical support tech to diagnose the tv and fix the issue. I asked the samsung rep if they couldnt fix the problem if I would be able to get a replacement they said that their going to fix the issue, i looked up samsung tv defects and samsung support does the run down making it hard for you to get a replacement tv, reading online they will dispatch the technical support tech minimal of three times before you are able to get close to a replacement . Keep in mind this is within the return policy. Ive been having this TV for only 7 days, day 6 is when i noticed the defect. Samsung will send out contractors from Service Quick inc.

It's Looks Pretty, Oh So Pretty!

Well, I could sum up my review of the Samsung S89C with two words and be done with it…"beautifully sexy”. Since CRT televisions left the mainstream, we have had eight flat screen TVs pass through our house (due to advancing technology and changing wants), and I must say, the picture quality on this Samsung is outstanding. I have no idea how anyone could want for more. And isn’t the primary reason that you buy a TV is for the picture? A lot of consumers have their television connected to an audio system or a soundbar anyway. With that being said, I have yet to hook up this TV to any sort of external audio and have found the built-in speakers (with a 40 watt amplifier) to be more than adequate for the type of viewing we do. The audio quality of this TV surpasses my expectations and might have been just as surprising and satisfying as the picture quality.
I can’t really say where exactly the S89C falls in Samsung’s television lineup as it currently does not appear on their web site. I’m going to guess that based on price, it is at least similar to the S90C and the 89 might be a Best Buy exclusive model number.
We recently moved and had to pack a 55”, 65”, and 70” TV for transport. After having done that, I was truly amazed and appreciative of how the boxing and packing of this TV was done by the factory. The innovative way of using the packing to stabilize the TV while attaching the legs (simple and with no tools needed) was a treat. I had visions of a tough go of it, but watched a YouTube video and it was pretty slick. I would advise having a flashlight handy when attaching the legs to aid in getting them snapped properly into position, as the back of virtually every modern TV is a dark abyss without sufficient illumination. You will also need two people to move or mount this TV. The composite plastic legs seem a little spindly at first, but once affixed and the TV put into its final resting place, they do an admirable and stylish job of supporting this almost 80 pound television. The one thing to note about the legs is that they are positioned at the center of the TV rather than at the ends, and for some installations this may complicate positioning of a soundbar at the base of the display. The legs have about 12” between them and extend in front of the screen about 6”.
The part of a TV that you interact with the most, is the remote control (other than your eyeballs looking at the image). The remote that Samsung includes with the S89C is a petite 5.5” long, 1.5” wide, and 0.5” thick. It has a nice feel in the hand, with a minimal number of buttons. The buttons are not back-lit, but there are so few of them and it is so easy for your thumb to navigate the remote in the dark that I did not miss that feature. Conspicuous by its absence are number keys, but they are available as a “virtual keypad” on the TV screen if needed. Using the built-in streaming apps, I did not miss having these keys on the remote. The volume and channel buttons rock back and forth to make changes, and there are additional functions, such as “Mute” when you press either button straight down. I did find that I would often mute the sound when I was in fact just trying to bump it up or down slightly. That was the only criticism I had with the controls. The remote is unique in that it has a built-in rechargeable battery that has a USC-C port to be charged by wire (no cable included), AND has what I would consider a very innovative feature, a solar cell on the back of the remote to charge it. It does require you to remember to lay the remote face down regularly, which is unintuitive to do, so I would suggest Samsung increases the length of the remote slightly and move the solar cell to the top side of the remote. The remote also has a microphone on it to accept voice commands, but I found I had to turn that feature off as the TV would turn itself on, or bring up differing menus while we were watching a program, depending on what it thought it heard when my wife and I were conversing within ear shot of the remote.
The S89C comes with the expected array of jacks and ports on the rear and they all are situated so that the cable enters the port parallel to the screen rather than perpendicular so that it allows the TV to hug the wall without interference from the cables. All four HDMI inputs appear to be identical except for port HDMI 3 which is for an eARC connection. There are two USB-A ports, an optical port for digital audio output, an Ethernet port, an F-connector for an antenna, and a port labeled “EX-LINK”. Samsung curiously included a Y-adapter consisting of a mini stereo phone plug to two stereo RCA jacks (one red and one white), and this is what in the past I would have used to make an analog audio out connection to an A/V receiver. I have no idea why this is included as I can find no mention of the adapter, an analog audio out feature, or Ex-Link in the e-Manual. And speaking of the e-Manual, while I understand the reasons for including the full user manual in this fashion (links, the ability to search, and it saves money), I find it frustratingly difficult to use the e-Manual on the TV (compared to a paper version) while also trying to utilize the information in it. This was made easier by downloading the e-Manual onto my laptop, but since I could not find this file on either Best Buy’s or Samsung’s web site, I had to contact Samsung’s online customer service and they were able to quickly supply me with a link through their online “Chat” function. There are no longer “Composite” or “Component” connections provided on this TV for those of you that still have a need to connect older electronic devices, but there exists converters allowing these cables to connect via an HDMI port.
The TV allows you to easily connect via Bluetooth wireless headphones for private listening, or some brands of game controllers to utilize Samsung’s built-in Gaming Hub. Also included is Dolby Atmos audio processing, and a whole slew of video processing technology to make the most of your TV viewing experience. If you have yet to experience 4K OLED video with a 120Hz refresh rate, now is the time to upgrade and give yourself a real visual treat. There is so much for me to yet explore on the Samsung S89C that I will be entertained way into the future. Thank you Samsung!

$350 LG TV outlasting $3500 Samsung

The accompanying picture to this review shows a $349 LG that has been working for 4+ years, in front of this $3500 Samsung that died exactly 2 months after purchase. It will not turn on and has been verified as defective after contacting Samsung customer support. A repair technician has been scheduled and will arrive in 6 days, thankfully I have the reliable LG to watch TV during this time.
Samsung support will likely respond to this review with the standard corporate response of how my opinion matters and they want to make it right if I call, which I have already done. My recommendation would be to make these issues right, of which there are many examples listed on various message boards, by fully replacing defective TV's if they die within an extremely short period of time (in this example, 2 months). Waiting a week for repair, and then hoping for the remaining period of ownership that the same, or a separate, issue does not occur, is an extremely unpleasant experience for a $3500 TV. True resolution and concern for the customer would be a complete replacement.
Not pictured, is a $2000 LG TV that is 12 years old and was replaced by this Samsung brick. It continues to work without issue.
The reviews for this TV are generally positive, so maybe my experience is an anomaly. Each customer must decide if the gamble is worth their time, energy, and money.

The tv is leaning sideways SO MUCH

Right when I got home, I pulled out the tv, installed the very cheap feeling legs, and put the tv on the stand. It was immediately noticeable that the tv was leaning to the left. I double and triple checked the legs to make sure I installed them right. I even checked the tv stand to make sure it was level. No matter what, the left side is a half inch lower, and on a 77” tv, it is very noticeable. I contacted Samsung and they sent a local repair guy out, twice. He could not fix it and said Samsung will likely not doing anything about it. Something about it being within “2% spec,” so even though it is distractingly crooked, it’s “normal” in Samsungs eyes. I am still in the process of trying to get this taken care of. From what I understand, the legs are the biggest difference between this and the S90C. I really wish I could return this and get the S90C if this is normal on this tv.

KyleG,
It's unfortunate to hear of this. Please know that the S89C TV’s stand was solidly designed and extensively tested for stability, but there are a few things we’d like you to check:
1. Make sure the stand is correctly installed (all screws aligning, snug in place, etc.). Please also make sure you’ve installed the “R” labeled leg on the right, and “L” on the left. When the legs are inserted correctly, you’ll hear a slight “click” when they’re in place. 2. If you need more instruction, refer to the Quick Setup Guide for more help: https://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/EM/202308/20230825034401001/BN68-17214A-00_QSG_S8XC%2077inch_ZA_Eng_230810.0.pdf 3. Inspect the stand for any cracks, damage, or missing hardware.
If your stand is correctly installed and it still seems crooked/wobbly, please reach Samsung Support and an agent will be happy to help. You can reach us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week. LiveChat with an agent as well as manuals, software, and warranty info can be found at the ‘Support’ link on our Samsung website.

Some of the worst customer service i have received from best buy after buying this tv. The tv was DOA, no picture but did get audio meaning that the panel was defective. BestBuy geek squad (who is absolutely awesome every time) came by and confirmed it was defective. I contact customer support and they tell me that i can return it but if have to pay an uninstalling fee of $150 ( i am a total tech member by the way). So to return the defective tv i have to pay an uninstalling fee

I had been looking for the past few years to replace my TCL C807 65" we seldom use in our living room (Bedroom TV is where we dropped the dollahs lol,) After seeing this on sale at Best Buy for $1800.00 off ($1799.00 sale price) I jumped on it. Couldn't be happier with the picture quality and modes the tv offers. Upscaling is very good, very deep blacks, and vibrant colors. Anti-Relective screen and angle viewing is not washed out like many other brands. I used RTINGS dot com to calibrate the TV as I have in the past with great success.
While this TV isn't the *Best* on the market, it is definitely within the top 10, and for the price it cannot be beat!
Example: the Sony 77" class BRAVIA XR A95L is the top OLED pick amongst most review sites, and for a 77" goes for $4999 with a Mixed Usage Score of 9.2.
The Samsung S95C OLED goes for $3499.00 in a 77" with a Mixed Usage score of 9.0.
The *Sister* TV of the S89C, the S90C sells for $2299.00 with a Mixed Usage score of 9.0. (The S89C was made exclusively for Best Buy and has the same Oled Panel as the S90c, only difference is it does not have native DTS , which if using a Samsung soundbar with Q Symphony and DTS/Atmos encoding makes that irrelevant)
Now we circle back to the S89c 77", with a selling price of $1799.00 and a Mixed Usage score of 8.9, it's the clear winner if your wanting quality at an amazing price!
Bottom Line is this, if you want the best OLED TV this isn't it, but its darn good, and in years of shopping, I haven't found a solid OLED in this price point ever. The above mentioned *Top* scoring OLED TV's, generally just have slightly better individual scores in HDR mode, which lets be honest, that's only 25% of what you'll watch on the tv at best, and if your like me and don't have the greatest eyesight, spending $500-$3000 more just to have the best, you probably wont see that drastic of a difference anyway.

Tremendous price to performance here!

TL;DR: This is probably this best price to performance deal you're going to find on a TV currently.
I was waiting for either a 83" G4 OLED (with the MLA tech) or the 2024 Sony 85" mini-LED set, but could not pass up this deal on this 77" S89C due to the fact that this is a QD-OLED. If you're not familiar, QD-OLED uses blue OLED lights to excite quantum dots that can produce more light and have greater color volume than a normal WOLED panel. WOLED panels use white OLED lights and then have color filters placed in front of them. There are tradeoffs to each tech and you can find numerous discussions online about this. This set is using a QD-OLED panel similar to the Sony A95L, which is regarded as one of the best TVs currently on the market. In LG's G series of TVs, MLA tech was added to increase brightness dramatically, but those sets cost substantially more money as I write this.
I am coming from a 65" 2017 B7 LG OLED and the first thing I noticed from this S89C is the near black/gray panel uniformity. It is amazing. For the last 7 years, I have been tolerating vertical banding that becomes annoying in darker scenes. It has prevented me from upgrading my TV for a while because I have very little energy to play the panel lottery game and I know LG sets still can have this issue (especially in larger sizes).
Now, the settings out of the box were kind of "meh" for me. This is my first Samsung TV and I expected I would have to dial down color or luminance, but I found it to be the opposite (with the exception of Game mode). You need to be prepared to play around with settings to get a picture you enjoy. Personally, I don't like the "Warm2" color temperature and like to go with standard. Currently, I'm experimenting with dropping the Gamma 2-3 clicks and keeping the contract enhancer set to high in HDR, which goes against what most calibrators will tell you do it. Just keep trying things until you find something that *you* enjoy. I simply use Movie and Filmmaker modes with all of the motion smoothing junk turned off.
In Game Mode, this TV is a flame thrower. I had to dial my settings down because they were so bright. I'm not sure how accurate this mode is, but colors really pop. In order for Game Mode to automatically engage, make sure you have ALLM (auto low latency mode) enabled on your console. Game Mode will not auto engage from the Xbox Home Screen, only when you start playing an actual game (this took me a while to realize).
HDMI CEC - this TV switches more consistently and quickly than my LG set. On my LG OLED, turning on the Xbox would cause the LG to wake up my Apple TV and then, maybe 85% of the time, switch to the Apple TV. I am happy to say the S89C does not do this.
Tizen OS - I don't use any apps on the TV because I use an Apple TV. Seriously, just get an Apple TV or an Nvidia Shield. The Apple TV has an A15 chip in it and it's stupendously responsive. Then, if you ever get a new TV, all of your stuff is already signed in and ready to go. I have HDR enabled on the Apple TV, Match Content/Range enabled, but the default set to 4K SDR so it presents UI elements/home screen correctly. The Apple TV will then engage HDR when presented with HDR material. Switching dynamic range modes is faster than my 2017 LG.
I opted for the 2 year warranty because the sentiment online seems to be that Samsung quality assurance can be hit or miss and dealing with GeekSquad is a better experience than Samsung when something goes wrong.
Gotchas (minor):
I don't know if this is just going from 65" to 77", but streamed TV channels don't look great. We usually just stream the occasional sporting event, but do know that if your primary content is from a TV streaming service, you may be in for a bad time. This is maybe where Sony's processing and upscaling would come in handy, but I have no way of knowing.
SDR modes do not have the same punch as HDR modes, but you can fix that to a degree by disabling the auto brightness feature in the power and energy settings. Note: you have to do this for both HDR and SDR modes individually.
The TV does not support Dolby Vision, but does support HDR. All of our streaming apps have both DV and HDR10 versions. It's frustrating that Samsung just won't support Dolby Vision, but with the increased color volume and brightness of this set, it may not be that big of a deal for most people.
You have to enable "input signal plus" manually for your HDMI ports in order to get all of the goodies (Settings > External Device Manager -> Input Signal Plus).
The stand on this TV extends in front of the TV more than I'd like. I preferred the LG style stand. If you're using a soundbar, you may have to get creative, wall mount, or purchase a 3rd party stand.
When using HDMI-CEC to control volume, the TV will display a +/- volume indicator on the screen that's a little annoying because it's large (maybe 1/4th of the left side of the screen).
OLED Motion - because OLED TVs have such a fast response time, subsequent images don't smear/blend together like an LCD set. This can give low frame rate panning shots a "stutter" effect (kind of like a flip book). I found this no worse than my 2017 LG set and I leave all motion enhancement stuff turned off. For me, I will gladly trade blooming, contrast, off angle viewing inherit with a lot of LCDs for dealing with some stutter effect in 24fps panning shots. Just be aware that some people are really sensitive to that type of thing and a mini-LED LCD may be a better option.
All in all, these are minor considering how much this TV costs. I've been casually following the TV scene for 20 years and I can't remember a time where you could get this much bang for your buck.

UNBOXING:
This is a 2-person job and I really wouldn’t recommend attempting to set up the S89C alone. To unbox, you’ll lift the cardboard up which will reveal the TV sitting in a protective foam enclosure. Overall, it was packaged decently well, but for such a thin panel, it does feel like perhaps there would be better packaging. But if it’s delivered without issue, then it shouldn’t be a serious concern.
Inside of the box, you’ll have the TV, power cable, detachable stand, solar remote control, documentation, cable cover, and a 3.5mm male to RCA female adapter.
SETUP:
If you decide to use the stand, one of the really nice aspects of setting up the S89C is that you can install the stand before you fully remove it from the box. The stand on the S89C is mounted at the center of the TV as opposed to the edges of the frame. So Samsung opted to make it easy to remove the middle of the packaging so that the stand can be mouned before removing the TV from the box. No tools are needed to install the stand, either.
Once you’ve installed the stand using the included instructions, it requires two people on each side to lift the TV onto your desired surface. After which, you can install all the necessary cables and attach the cable cover.
Alternatively, you can also VESA mount the TV to a wall, and the screws are installed in a 400mm x 300mm configuration, so you’ll need to use a mount that can be adjusted to meet this specification.
Then the software setup can be performed either by smartphone through the Samsung SmartThings app with a QR code, or with the physical remote. With that said, I recommend using the app, and if possible, using the Smart Calibration which leverages your smartphone’s camera to calibrate the S89C’s display. I’ll touch on that later.
BUILD:
The Samsung S89C weighs in at 79.4lbs with the stand, and the vast majority of the build is going to be slightly more than ¼” inches—which is less than many smartphones, while the thicker portion at the bottom of the TV is a mere 1.8”. Excluding the stand, the TV yields a cubic volume of 67.7in x 38.9in x 1.8in.
I did notice some small gaps in the build where the mainboard enclosure meets the display, but this isn’t something to be particularly concerned about. That being said, I think for the price being paid, many folks would expect a more consistent build.
More importantly, I did notice that because the bottom half of the TV has the electronics whereas the top half only has the display, there really isn’t a ton of structural support for the top half. As a result, when I looked at the side of the TV, I noticed that the display exhibited a very subtle backwards bend. And if I’m being honest, this isn’t the first time this in a large-format Samsung OLED TV. Because Samsung keeps making these TVs so incredibly thin, it is much more likely that they may develop a subtle bend during packaging, transportation, and delivery. I experienced this on the smaller Samsung 65” S95B, and it continues its legacy here on the larger 77” S89C.
That being said, it is not noticeable unless you are paying very close attention, and it’s certainly not noticeable at all when you are looking straight at the display. Even so, I have owned or inspected other OLED TVs at this size and they do not design them this thin without structural support for reasons like this. So your mileage may vary, but it’s also not an infrequent occurrence—the question is how much bend you will have as opposed to if there is one at all.
Other than that, you have 4x HDMI 2.1 ports which is refreshing to see considering how many TVs may only have 1 or 2 that may have full support, and the remote control charges via USB-C and by a solar cell on the back of the remote.
DISPLAY:
With display bends aside, how does it perform in terms of color, fluidity, and HDR?
Out of the box, before running the Smart Calibration through the SmartThings app, I noticed that the HDR performance leaned towards making content overly bright and blown out, and there was more frequent color-banding in gradients. But after Smart Calibration, this was significantly improved with better dynamic range and less color banding between gradients. So I highly recommend using the Smart Calibration if possible.
With that done, the performance of the S89C is fantastic to my eyes. This is using a WOLED panel from LG Display, not to be confused with the higher-end QD-OLED displays that Samsung is manufacturing. If you’re looking for QD-OLED, you’ll need to look at the S90C model.
The S89C has very rich contrast, and colors appear vivid and punchy with more of a life-like appearance as opposed to artificial. Things like color banding may be more prevalent depending on your source device, the quality of the content, how you’ve configured the settings of that device, as well as the S89C, itself. In my testing, using an Apple TV yielded the best overall color performance with streaming services compared to the same services on the native Tizen OS of the S89C.
HDR content also looks fantastic on the S89C thanks to the OLED panel. When presented with scenes where there is incredibly bright content juxtaposed with darker content, the S89C is able to represent both on the display without causing blooming. Moreover, I never experienced any screen flickering in my tests. I used the full gamut of features with 4K HDR with Variable Refresh Rate and at 120Hz. When all these features were in effect simultaneously, the S89C did quite well. Games were responsive with low input latency, high refresh rate, and with incredible contrast and dynamic range thanks to OLED’s incredible HDR performance.
Another feature I’d like to mention is that with a compatible PC connected, the S89C can yield a 144Hz refresh rate which may be desirable for PC gamers, and it’s possible across all 4 HDMI ports.
AUDIO:
The S89C is equipped with 40W of audio output via 2.1 channels. In my testing, the audio was actually reasonably good. For those who do not yet own a dedicated sound system and aren’t interested in purchasing one, I think that they will be pleased with the clarity of the audio from the S89C. While you won’t have amazing directionality or deep bass, audio was clear without sounding tinny, dialog was easily understood without muffling, and cinematic audio effects were able to preserve their overall intent.
SOFTWARE:
The Tizen OS software is reasonably responsive on the S89C, but it can also be a bit cumbersome to use in certain circumstances. Navigating between your HDMI inputs requires more button presses because there aren’t any dedicated shortcuts on the remote for your HDMI inputs. If you’re the kind of person who normally avoids using the integrated smart TV OS, you won’t be able to completely avoid it on this TV.
The remote itself is incredibly minimalist with no numeric buttons for channels, so it’s fine for directional controls in onboard apps, but not for navigating to a specific channel on your cable box. You’ll of course have all the mainstays like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, YouTube, and Hulu, as well as an app store for others. A few of which have shortcuts on the remote control in addition to the Samsung TV Plus service.
You can use a voice assistant either through Alexa or through Bixby, but these were often hit or miss. Sometimes I could ask for a specific thing and it would find it, and other times it would struggle to understand what I was asking for.
I think that the user experience could use some improvement across Tizen OS, but with such a simplified physical remote control, it will always be limited in how quickly you can navigate. I understand there are people who may be happy using the onboard smart TV software for all their streaming needs, but I just continue to find that most smart TV operating systems can be sluggish or provide non-intuitive user experiences. While Tizen OS is pretty responsive overall, it really seems like the onboard processing of video streams is not as good as dedicated Apple TV hardware.
But I am at least happy that it doesn’t freeze up and lag every time I try to navigate through the OS.
CONCLUSION:
Overall, I think the S89C is a solid 77” OLED TV. It has solid performance for cinematics and games, and its native Tizen OS is responsive albeit perhaps more cumbersome to navigate for certain circumstances. When compared to its competitors, it has more build quality issues due to the incredibly thin design, but its visual performance is solid after calibration, and the audio performance is also quite good for onboard audio. If you’re evaluating this TV against the competitors, I’d say its biggest shortcoming is that its OS is less mature, and its display is more susceptible to bends due to its very thin design.

This review covers the salesperson all the way to the delivery personnel, as well as (obviously) the TV, and let me say EACH deserves a 5 STAR RATING!!! First the salesperson, who spent a considerable amount of time helping me be sure that in fact, this S89C 77' set had both the same screen as the S90C, and had the Filmmaker mode. Those were deal-breakers for me, and helped me seal the deal and save about $500 bucks (soon to be spent on an ATMOS soundbar). So instead of just great information and then waiting, I walked out of the store with a very quick turn around delivery date for my new TV! The procedure BestBuy uses to inform and track delivery status worked very well, and the two delivery people were right on schedule!! They were not only efficient and careful, but went above and beyond!!! Now to the TV. I am upgrading from a Samsung 65 that I've had for some time, and just WOW!!!! The color, brightness, size, clarity during fast moving scenes is phenomenal!!! I know that RTings is reviewing this specific model as I speak, so we will all find out the deep dark secret that the only difference between the 89C and the 90C is a small metal piece between the stand legs....and oh $500!!! If you want to spend less then $3000 dollars on a 77", BUY THIS SET!!!
