I recently purchased the 82" version of the Q6FN Samsung TV. The TV it was replacing was an around 3 year old Sony X850C. The Sony is a nice TV but I wanted something with much better HDR and also larger. I'll break down my review into a few sections for ease of reading. First, regarding setup. I was a little disappointed with the setup process. I had heard that the Samsung SmartThings app would make setup very easy. I thought it would scour my phone for login info for services like Netflix, Hulu, etc. thereby not requiring me to go through the setup process for each app. Perhaps I misunderstood the promises but, for me, it did not do this. I still had to go through and login to each app. Also, I had to try to connect the SmartThings apps multiple times. Once it stopped and disconnected me in the middle of setup requiring me to start over. To be clear, the setup process was not really any different than for any other TV I've had, just not as easy, simplified and intuitive as I had hoped. Second, HDR performance. The Sony TV this was to replace was not an HDR powerhouse. It had very mediocre brightness levels (I think around 300 nits), so HDR was not great. Colors are good but the brights don't pop. I have a older Samsung KS8000 in my bedroom that can get really bright, around 1,500 nits, so this was really my baseline. I was hoping to see the bight vivid colors as well as bright highlights like I do on that TV. Right away, during setup, I could tell I was going to be disappointed. I reserved judgment at this point, hoping that once the TV was displaying good 4K/HDR content it would shine. Again, I was disappointed. I could get the colors to pop pretty well but there was a constanst dimness over the TV. No matter what I did there was just no "pop." Vivid setting gave me the closest and best picture, but that made certain shows look overblown, so not something I could use full time. Review sites, like Rtings.com do show this TV as being dimmer, so I probably should not have been surprised, but I was. Third, picture quality. One of things that surprised me, aside from the 4K/HDR preformance, was the clarity of the picture. The Sony X850C and the Samsung KS9000 (both 55" TV's) had very good clarity, even with lower quality sources like cable. As mentioned above, straight 4K signals and 4K bluray discs looked good, but anything lower quality source than that looked blocky, like the upscaling wasn't working well. I bought this the Friday before the Super Bowl and, when watching the game on this TV and other shows, like Big Bang Theory, the quality of the picture was sub-par. It all seemed blocky and choppy. In the end, with the money spent on this TV (it has come down significantly since my initial purchase), I couldn't keep it. Disappointing 4k/HDR and blocky/choppy TV and sport performance are what killed it for me. Perhaps I just got a bad unit (so many other glowing reviews) or perhaps I just had very high expectations. Either way, I had to return it. I ended up trading up to the Q8FN (had to downsize to 75" vs 82" due to cost) but the picture quality is night and day different. Colors pop and HDR is amazing. Watching fire on How to Train Your Dragon 1&2 is amazing. The upscaling is also excellent. I have elsewhere that the bigger you get the less pixel density, and therefore the higher change for blocky images, so perhaps for 4K and 82" is just too big.

Unfortunately, I have 65in LG OLED TV. That's why I cannot put 5 starts on this TV, though good tv, because I could compare them. Pros: - Entry level QLED, considering price tag and its 82in size, it is quite good TV - Very bright - Good and fast UI - Good uniformity even though its huge 82in size Cons: - SDR is quite bright too; meaning that when playing HDR, I cannot tell HDR is better than SDR. I checked several times that its media source is HDR. When I played it in LG OLED, I can tell overall picture quality is quite improved and the screen becomes impressive. But in this TV, HDR looks similar as in SDR. - Local dimming is not helping; actually bothering in some cases; especially in the dark scene with sub title, its brightness fluctuated depending on sub titles. Also I can feel that brightness changes when the ending credit is moving up with dark background at the end of the movie - Color depth is not impressive (though color volume is better than OLED) Before comparing this TV with my another OLED TV, I did not know what "color depth" means when some people mentioned it. But now I understand what they meant and why black in OLED is so important. I realized that this complete black in OLED makes all other colors rich, vivid, real and depth like 3D. I was watching a document in Netflix and a guy was on the interview with black background. I felt like he was talking straight to me face to face in LG OLED TV. However, same scene in this QLED looked blurry because of gray tone background color. Summary: I was considering either this 82in QLED or 77in C8 OLED for my new house. Finally I decided to go with this 82in QLED, because - within my budget (could go with 77in OLED, but I had to sacrifice other budget if I choose 77in OLED) - good compromise between price tag and its quality - wanted bigger screen - somewhat worried about OLED burn-in - already have one 65in OLED TV - mostly for weekend movie time for family; I would use this TV 5 to 6 hours for a week at most, but it might be too expensive for this short usage if I go with 77in C8 OLED Overall happy to have this; enjoyed movies with big screen + vivid colors. If you have limited budget but looking for a good & big TV, this is a good candidate.

I was still quite happy with my 65" panasonic plasma from 2012 but really wanted to upgrade the size. The 82" screen size is HUGE! The picture is good but not great. Some things on my plasma looked a little better but some shows look better on this as well. Maybe that is to be expected since the blacks on a plasma are still superior. I have been using the HDR function with directv and the picture looks pretty solid. At times it doesn't seem to be as clear + crisp as I think it should be but the size makes up for any negativity in my opinion. Other than the pure size of this monster one of its best features is the smart remote. Without having to do any programming I am able to control my directv, firestick, and even my xbox! I was amazed at how well the remote worked straight out of the box. Although its not a problem now but it has taken me about a couple of weeks to get the settings just about right. Although I don't need to use my firestick due to the ease of the apps on the smart report I still do since its all I have ever done but the HDR+ doesn't seem to be great on it and I have to use the movie settings instead. I use the HDR+ with directv and am happy with the picture. I would recommend this TV to others. It's not perfect but the 82" screen size is amazingly big. I still find myself saying WOW this TV is huge at times and I have had it almost a month now.

We had a 2015 75" Samsung UHD TV -- nothing bad to say about it. The '15 did not offer HDR (high dynamic range) but the HD and UHD picture seemed to leave very little to be desired. We saw the demo model of several larger (82" and 85") Samsung and Sony UHD TVs with HDR -- being of the opinion that bigger could be better, we looked at the Sony, but at the QLED price point the Sony, WAS bigger, but the picture wasn't up to the QLED's performance, especially with UHD HDR native content. Best Buy matched Amazon's price and a couple of days later, the new TV arrived, was set up and turned on (ready for it to be calibrated.) The QLED 82" UHD TV is significantly brighter and when watching UHD HDR native content is able to produce contrast so great the 2D picture almost presents itself as believable 3D. We drive the TV with a Sony UHD HDR DVD player (which we source a lot of UHD HDR streaming content from). The physical disc, I tell myself, is still "this much" better than the streaming content -- and I thought that really was the case until I fired up some 4K content (new) from both Amazon and NetFlix. If you're looking at the less expensive "Premium UHD TV" line from Samsung, you will not be displeased -- but for a relatively small amount more, you can graduate to the QLED experience. Best TV ever -- 82" screen size "rules."

I have had this Q6F 82in Samsung for about 3 weeks now and I absolutely love it. There is has been some negative reviews I read before buying but I’m so glad I decided to buy it anyways. If you have geek squad set it up, you should have no problems at all. Got it wall mounted and sound bar as well and it has been the movie theater like scenario I have wanted for over a decade now! Clear 4k content on movies and shows that have it. The remote is super easy to use and there are no advertisements that stay on the screen at all. Again AMAZING TV for the price as well. Can’t beat it! Just join in on the fun and nake the purchase! With this Q6F and the Samsung N850 7.1 soundbar, its a great combo for anyone balling in a budget for home theater! Super happy and can’t wait to enjoy it more and more. Just In case, I did purchase the 2 year plan on the the TV. I hope to never have to use it but having it gives me the peace of mind if anything goes wrong it’s absolutely covered by geek squad! Tyler and Richard from geek squad are the guys to use for your set up needs by the way!

I had the 75" Samsung Q6F and it is an outstanding TV but I exchanged the 75" for an 82". Like the 75", the 82" provides an excellent picture right out of the box. With just a few changes to the Natural picture setting, the QLED provides deep, crisp color. I watch a lot of hockey and this Samsung has sharp edges with no motion blur. The picture quality is outstanding whether you're watching sports or a movie. The picture is vibrant even in a well-lit room. I cannot comment on the audio since I use a sound bar but recommend a sound bar for the full movie experience. As I wrote in my review of the 75" Q6F, I did a great deal of research about both Sony and Samsung, and I'm glad that I chose the Samsung Q6F. And one last piece of advice. When I purchased the 75", I was upgrading from a 70" but was disappointed that the 75" didn't seem bigger. In speaking with the sales associate, he told me that that is a common phenomenon; an increase of 5" will not seem that big. So, if you're looking for a "bigger" TV, bypass the next size and buy the size after that one. And don't be intimidated by the 82"; I have a medium/large living room and the 82" looks great!

    White Spots Everywhere

I have had this Samsung 82” TV for over 4 months. When I first got the TV, the picture was amazing with minimal ghosting. Then about 2 weeks ago bright white spots showed up everywhere. It gets worse every day and now you don’t want to turn it on to watch a movie because that is all you can see. The only time it goes away is if you are watching a football game or something very bright that covers the entire screen. Samsung will walk you through steps to correct the image but it only enhances the horrible bright white spots. They then asked me to go to the troubleshoot it yourself option and look at the preloaded image on the screen to see if I notice the white spots. Take in mind the picture covers the entire screen and is a picture of an extremely bright scene at the beach. Of course you are not going to see it in a picture like that. By far the worst TV I have ever purchased. If you only like to watch sports that are very bright and cover the whole screen, you won’t notice it. If you like to watch anything else such as movies, Netflix, HULU, Amazon Prime, TV Shows, I would recommend to shop for another TV.

We are very pleased with this TV. Of course, we have only had it for 2 months, but it has worked perfectly well so far for sure. The only criticism of this TV that I read online before I bought it was about its "blacks." Sometimes there is a gray shadow instead of jet black. Honestly, it's a fair trade (to me) in exchange for the bright picture. The recent very dark Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3, Battle of Winterfell, is a good example. We watched it on the Samsung being reviewed here, noticed that it was dark, but that was about it. I rewatched it on a 65" LG TV of ours and - dang - it was barely-able-to-see-anything dark. So, give me being able to see a picture with some gray shadows instead of jet black (the Samsung) over not being able to see much of anything (a different TV) any day. A few other comments: the remote is delightfully simple. The TV is heavy and large: moving it around is a job for 2 people. So far the ports work great; the internet connectivity is seamless, I bought the right (additional) cable to be able to connect it to my sound system, so the sound is great, and the image is good from all angles.

    Utterly bad user design experience

Pro; Great Look, superb picture quality Cons: The usermenu, apps, setup are really bad once any of the advanced features are to be configured. Let's start with the home screen: Full of useless Apps and advertising for more Apps. Most Apps can be removed, but they eventually come back. Advertising for new Apps cannot be turned off or removed. If all you want is run an Apple TV and a Playstation you are out of luck. It will force other TV apps and built in programs on you. To configure the TV properly you need to use the Samsung SmartThings App. Thats where it gets really bad. On iOS e.g. iPhone XS Max most of the functionality needed to configure is actually broken and will not work. Some screens have the user controls literally outside the iPhone screen area and you can only kill the App or be stuck on that screen forever. The SmartThings App insists to perform another setup and will always crash. Have contacted Samsung support and other than rebooting the SmartThings Hub on the TV have been of no help. As beautiful as the picture quality is, as bad is the user experience. A pattern of Samsung products as of late.

I did a lot of research online and in the store before purchasing this TV. The new 2019 Samsung line are nice and you can see the difference in the picture quality when place side by side but it was enough to justify the cost, nor have I noticed anything but a great picture when mounted on my wall at home. The size was much better for my space as I am sitting about 15 - 18 from the TV and the 65" I had there now seem very small. The remote is small and has voice control, which works OK not great but I don't/haven't used it to much because I have Xfinity. The apps load super fast and it communicate with my Samsung phone for when using Smart things and Youtube which has been the only thing I have used it with. As for the sound quality I cant say, I have it connect to the stereo system. This thing is heavy (100 LBS) and largely awkward to mess around with. It require 2 people. My wife and I were able to mount it on the wall with out to much trouble, there is no way I would have been able to do it myself. All in all very happy with the TV.

I had bought a Samsung 75 inch NU8000 for my living room but was using it in my theater room until I could afford the 82 Q6, I was playing Xbox 1 x frequently and watched 4K movies on the NU8000 and was amazed by the picture quality definitely an upgrade from the old standard 1080p hd TVs. Now when I got the q6f the screen size was an upgrade for sure and the picture quality.. hard to tell for me honestly, it does without a doubt give crisp video quality that is very impressive but it’s kind of hard for me to distinguish from the nu8000 which I believe is the next model down the charts. It has the same remote as said tv but the q6f comes with an ambient mode where it displays something like a screensaver pretty neat I suppose. The only noticeable difference I have noticed is that the q6f is way brighter. As for audio can’t really distinguish because I’ve been running Dolby atmos surround on both and it does sound amazing.

I was walking thru the tv section at bestbuy and saw the qled family of tvs on the wall. They were amazing and it felt like i was at the locations being shown. I purchased the 49 inch version for my bedroom and just blown away. So went back and purchased the 55 in for the living room, luving the size. I took measurements of my main living room wall and seating distance to bestbuy. They said i could go up to the 82 inch. So i did it and geek squad came out put the 82 Samsung on the wall. I luv putting on those 4k videos of the snow, mountains, oceans etc the picture detail n colors are breathtaking. Thanks to bestbuy and geek squad for assisting me on this purchase.

Samsung has never failed to make a great product. This particular model with its sheer size is, in a word, crazy. The only flaw is the speaker/sound but honestly they all are horrible so it isn't a deal breaker, just get a audio system/soundbar. (I would suggest a 7.1.4 that Samsung has as well to complete the package.) Have always wanted a large scale quality television that wouldn't need a second mortgage, and this one seems to fit the bill. If you ever want to experience that feeling of being a kid on Christmas morning again then hook up your game system and get gitty. 40 years old and my girlfriend just shakes her head and giggles at the sight of me playing/watching on this thing. Overall if you are thinking of a large television and have the room (this is a lot bigger when you get it home) then this is the one you are going to want.

Great set ruined by severe ghosting/motion blur...

Quantum Dot adds alot of WOW factor. Very bright and vibrant set, great smart features. Now for the deal killer.. the 82" panel suffers from severe motion blur on moving objects, especially visible on high contrast/solid color backgrounds. For example, Ice Hockey, Snowboarding, Basketball, Animated shows, and video games... all have horrible ghost trails on moving objects against white/solid backgrounds. It's absolutely horrible... my research online seems to indicate problem is limited to the 82" panel, so look elsewhere if you are looking at that size. When I contacted Samsung, they said this was accepted and normal for this set. And so, despite it's beauty and the great deal I got, this set is going back. Shame on Samsung for lack of quality control on this panel!

This is the first TV with the OLED technology (QLED) that I have purchased. The motion is good, sometimes on really busy scenes the motion appears to get pixelated, however after some setting adjustments it’s all but gone. The deep blacks are the best I have seen. The HDR really makes the color pop! I am rewatching movies to see what they really look like, amazing! My family and I agree that the picture has a 3D look, the depth and detail makes you feel like the actors are in the room, just awesome! For the price and the features you can’t go wrong... LG may be a slightly better picture, but for the price I don’t see the benefit. I am a little biased as I have always liked Samsung displays, but this one really impressed my family and friends!

I'll admit I don't know much about this stuff. Here's what I thought: 1) 4k content looked great 2) 1080p content looked okay 3) anything lower looked bad (much worse than my old 1080p plasma) 4) motion on anything other than 4k was pretty bad... making sport watching on directv difficult. 5) 4k content looked great (i say that again intentionally - if you will be primarily using 4k then this tv is for you) 6) gaming via xbox one x looked great! Keep in mind this review comes from someone that doesn't know enough to be able to calibrate the tv to handle various content well... Ultimately I ended up returning this TV for the Q8 - primarily due to the Q8 handling glare better (we have a bright room).

TV worked fine for 2 months and then had a line at the bottom of screen. It also started going black at random, still had sound. I called Best Buy but it was out of their 30 day return window. I called samsung and they sent a technician with replacement board. It did not correct issue. Now I am waiting on replacement screen panel. Part is there but no technicians available until 2 more weeks. It will be 3 weeks without a tv if that fixes the issue. I encourage you to look up problems with this tv other than the reviews on best buy. I think you will be surprised.

This TV is awesome! When loading it in my truck at the store a man drove by and yelled "tell my wife to let me have one". It took 3 of us to hang it on the wall but it worked with my wall mount from my now tiny 65" tv. The spacing on the brackets is 24" you will need 4 - M8 x 45mm x 1.25 pitch bolts. They usually come with a wall mount kit but if you are going to reuse an existing mount take note before your helpers arrive. Your wife just won't understand. Compare it to a nice pair of shoes it helped me calm her down when she got home.

I love the tv, however I bought an open box and was assured by the salesman that everything was in the box. After delivery I discovered that the remote was missing from the box. It took a few days but they did finally made it right by giving me a remote. The factory remote I don't like, it has no fast forward or rewind buttons or ABC buttons on it making it totally useless once you start an app like Netflix or Amazon. Voice commands are a joke also. I have a 50" Samsung that came with a good remote with all the buttons needed for using apps. I don't know why they think this new one is so special, the useless voice commands I guess.

So I happy i went for the 82 inch. I wouldn't have been happy knowing I could have spent a little more money, I could get a way bigger tv than the 75. Picture on this thing is incredible on Netflix, youtube, and 4k blue ray. Sound from tv is also incredible. When it comes to watching cable tv, I'm a little disappointed, the picture is trash compared to my pre historic 60 inch 1080 sony tv. Im hoping thats an issue with my cable provider, maybe i need a new receiver. Im not blaming the tv, just be warned for all you cable watchers. I don't expect 4k from cable, but 1080 would be nice. Sports seem blurry now
