I needed to replace my old SSD Kingston, which was performing very poorly. Constantly running at 50% capacity with no opened programs sitting idle. I opted for the QVO instead of the EVO since I dont do any video editing just pretty much use my PC for games and listening to music. Man what a diff in performance compared to my old kingston SSD. PC now restarts within 3 seconds and everything runs hyper smoothly. My old SSD had 220 gigs of music and programs and the cloning process took 15mins tops. Then it was just unplug the old SSD and put in the QVO. Everything cloned exactly the way I had it down to the background picture I had on my old SSD. Computer started up so fast as if nothing had changed. 10/10

This SSD did not work for me and it was too late to return it. I never was able to get it set up (wouldn't take an OS) and only showed less than 480 GB available. I would NOT recommend this to anyone.

I installed this drive as a backup in a laptop with a secondary drive slot. I've been a fan of Samsung drives for some time, but I'm impressed with the value and performance of their products. Clocking in at One Terabyte, this drive is a good option for anyone building systems, adding storage, or replacing a drive. Size and connections, mounting points are all standard, not much to comment on there. The price is right on this one, and the transfer speeds are excellent. 3 year warranty is one of the better ones out there for a solid state drive. I would recommend this drive.

A pretty good new SSD, not great of an upgrade

I bought a similar SSD from Samsung (one of the 840 EVO) about 6 years ago in the 500GB variety when I was putting together my new computer. The computer has since been through some upgrades (including the CPU and Motherboard) so it's barely the same machine but that hard drive is still going strong. I was hoping this drive could give me a little bit of a speed boost after 6+ years of innovation. What I actually learned is that we had pretty much tapped the speed of the SATA bus way back then and there wasn't much to be gained here. I did a simple speed test of both drives (as well as my HDD) and, although the new 870 QVO was faster, the numbers shown weren't that substantial. The problem was that I just haven't tested out my old drive (maybe when I first put the computer together) so I was surprised how close to the max SATA III speed I was already. Setup was as simple as usual if you know how to install a SATA hard drive. plug in the power and the SATA cable and you're up and running. Showed up in the BIOS right away and just needed to be "initialized" by Windows. Performance was as described above. It got very close to the advertised speeds on the box so nothing to complain about there. The 870 QVO got sequential read speeds at about 550-565MB/s. Random read speeds at 407MB/s (1 queue, 1 thread speed was 41MB/s). Sequential write speeds were between 525-535MB/s and random write speeds were at 379MB/s (1 queue, 1 thread 118MB/s). These speeds are pretty close to the advertised max speeds on the box so I'm not unhappy at all. Now to contrast this with my 6 year old drive, seq reads were 538-554, random was 402 and random 1 thread was 42 and then seq write speeds were 508-519 and random writes were at 326 (1 thread was 96). So you can see, there is a SLIGHT boost from the much older drive to the newer beast but I'm not sure if it's enough to warrant an upgrade if you don't really need one. About 10-20MB/s for the most part. Obviously this just means that these drives were performing at the maximum bus speed of the SATA III spec was back in the day which is great. So would I recommend this drive? Absolutely if you're building a new computer or upgrading from a super old hard disk drive (and don't already have a SATA III SSD. A good SSD is one of the best upgrades you can do if you're still using an old school platter hard drive. Do I think you should make a lateral move and upgrade from an existing SSD that works fine and gets you close to that 600MB/s maximum? Not unless you're just looking for more drive space. You can't go wrong with this one as it's fast and if it's as reliable as my 840 EVO, it should keep ticking for a long time. Samsung makes good SSDs. If you can fit something like this into your budget t hen get it.

Great SSD for game storage. I also own the previous model QVO 860 this performs similiar if you have it as well. Comes in a typical package with warranty info and the drive. Screws for installation will come from your case/mobo packages so don't expect any installation screws. On first boot the drive was detected in windows and needed to be formatted in disk management under windows 10. Once formatted it was ready to start holding data. I found the advertised speeds to be reasonable expectations. I would not recommend this for boot drive with the availability of NVME drives nowadays I would use this strictly as a game or storage drive. The price point is a little high but as always you are paying for the Samsung name compared to similiar products. That said I own several Samsung SSD's and they are all still going strong and I have a 0% failure rate so with that premium price tag also comes a reassurance that you are getting a quality product. If you go into this purchase knowing that you are getting yourself a solid game/storage drive in a 2.5" format then you will not be disappointed in this purchase or the speeds at which your data loads.

The Gold Standard of Hard Drives!

This hard drive came right on time as it assisted me greatly in accomplishing my first upgrade! Of course, with the help of YouTube videos that guided me through the process. I have an old Lenovo B570 which is a special computer to me for various reasons. I affectionately call this computer, “Big Bertha” as she is large in size, but she handles tasks quite efficiently, but slow until I upgraded her with this powerful SSD drive. I am elated to report that boot up and shut down times have increased significantly thanks to this powerful SSD. Also, when opening of several windows, I have not experienced any lag. I will confess that I am truly a novice when it comes to hard drives but I can say that once this hard drive is installed, you’ll experience peak performances. As such, I highly recommend this hard drive if you’re in the market to upgrade a PC!

This is the first time that I’ve owned a 1TB SSD. I was a little skeptical about the performance and reliability so I decided to try different things to see how adaptive and reliable the drive is. Samsung states that the drive speed can go up to 560/530 MBps of sequential read/write through and up to 98,000/88,000 random read/write IOPS which is quiet good for the amount of data it can store. So first I use it as a startup C drive and installing Windows 10 from scratch. I used my old Acer Desktop as well as a new HP Laptop. Both Units were able to see the drive with no issues, even if the acer HDD controller of the acer was really old. I installed windows 10, and the installation was fast. Once it finished the installation I installed several programs like office, games, etc. No problem. I booted the drive several times to see if there were any problems but there were none. Then I put the original c drive on both units (Acer Laptop and HP Desktop) both of them has a HP 256 SSD with a SATA 3 interface (6GB/s) c drive to boot with Windows 10, and the Acer has also a D drive Toshiba 2 TB HHD. I copied data from the 256 SSD boot drive to the Samsung 1TD SSD, and the data transfer speed reached the 490MB/s, which is really good, then I tried the copy from the Toshiba 2TB HDD drive to the SSD Samsung and the speed was 200MB/s, something that I was expecting because the Toshiba is not SSD. The other thing that I did was to see if I can use it as an external drive. I have a USB3 to SATA adapter, and it was immediately recognized in both machines. I was able to backup data and the data transfer went up to 150MB/s, considering it is using USB port is really good. Something that I found really cool was the Samsung Magician software that can be downloaded from the Samsung website. It is a really useful and powerful tool, I can see not only the samsung SSD drive, but my other 2 drives, the Toshiba HDD and the HP SSD, and if both have the SMART technology integrated, the SW will tell you any PFA of the drives. However, for the Samsung SSD it has a lot of tools like, Low Level Format, Temperature, Serial Number, Firmware update, diagnostic scan, performance Optimization. Another test I did was to fill the disk until 85% of capacity and I didn’t see any performance decrease on data transfer. So, no matter what I did, this drive has accomplished very well, for Windows 10 it behaves wonderfully, as a boot drive, it make seen the Windows 10 very fast and responsive but that is because the drive is really fast. Very pleased with the performance, this Samsung 870 QVO 1 Tb is a good deal. I highly recommended.

This is a wonderful internal SSD. Very easy to install and blazing fast. I was able to clone my old 500gb drive into this in no time. I ran a bench test and the speeds were right in the ballpark of where they are stated to be. If you haven't already upgraded to an SSD I highly recommend doing so. It can really bring new life to an old computer. Also, if you choose to simply use it as a storage drive you will notice much faster speeds with large files ( RAW photos, large documents, ect). Samsung is a known for making some of the best SSD's so no need to worry about the quality. Highly recommend!

The Samsung QVO 870 is Samsung's latest budget SSD. It comes with a three year warranty and 360TBW Three years is kinda platry but 360TBW isn't so bad as long as you're not downloading GB's worth of files every day. I have an older Samsung SSD that's nearly 6yrs old and has only 20TB written currently. This is my work computer and uses a good bit of cache for Photoshop daily. So an average user can expect years of work and play before failure. The SSD comes with 42GB of cache. Once the cache fills up there will be a performance decrease. This is another scenario that most people will never see unless installing a large game. Performance is pretty standard. I had 460MB/s writes and 480MB/s reads. Not quite as high as the advertised speeds, but nothing to be disappointed by. I didn't bother testing the speeds after the 42GB of cache filled. I also didn't install the Samsung Magician. I don't like installing any programs that don't play essential parts in my set up. The software is needed to upgrade firmware, but unless I'm having problems I avoid it. An older version of Magician once wiped my HD on a firmware upgrade so I avoid it if I can. There's nothing remarkable or terribly faulty about this drive compared to other drives. It does what it's supposed to at a price that doesn't break the bank.

Samsung 2TB Internal 2.5” SATA III SSD review

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this 2 TB SSD to replace the 2 TB HDD that came with my Dell laptop. Earlier, I had installed a 500 GB SSD to supplement my 2 TB HDD to resolve slow reboot and other performance issues that were plaguing my laptop. The 500 GB SSD became my C Drive which contains all the apps while the 2 TB HDD became the F Drive which contains all my files. As I use Google Drive to sync all my files with another desktop computer, Google Drive was interpreting the files on the F Drive of my laptop to be different from the files on the C Drive of my desktop, creating duplicates of the files and exceeding the 2 TB Google Drive storage capacity. To resolve this issue without reverting to the slow performance of the HDD, Best Buy Geek Squad recommended replacing the HDD with the blank 2 TB SSD and store only Google Drive with its files there. They did the installation and it resolved the sync issue. I now have both speed and seamless synchronization with my desktop computer. It was an expensive but necessary fix, and I am very pleased with the outcome.

Of course I'm coming from a hard disk drive in my desktop computer and anything was going to be an improvement. hard disk drives as we all know story information but can potentially store it all over the place, there's also the internal mechanisms that could go bad and go wrong nothing wrong with your data but the arm on the needle gives out and then it can't read. SSD drives take care of all of that and then some. If you don't know all the information is put on like small chips. The information is bundled together and is lightning fast to process. Took me a while to find a guy to install it in my desktop but once he got it in and I got it home I thought I was in heaven. I have a gaming computer and I have redownloaded all my games to my new SSD drive. They access faster sharper with almost no loading time. This is truly a gift from above get your hands on one and get your hands on it fast.

its a SSD. works like it should. My reason for a 4 star though. it did not come with any screws or cords. luckily for my laptop i had a cord that fit the hard drive and my laptop. Most computers need a plug, my laptop was different. For my laptop it was not just a plug and play. i had to format the drive and get my laptop to read it. i have done this a few times, but just for those who might not, you can google how to install a new SSD. i am glad i got this though cause my laptop only had a 512 SSD in it. and did not even have a secondary hard drive. so having this is nice and being a SSD even nicer. especially because my laptop is for gaming. i have installed more games now on my laptop. had a external 7200rpm drive. nice to play games and have them load up a lot faster. if you are looking for a SSD hard drive, this is a great hard drive. just remember you will have to have screws that will fit if you dont have, as well as the sata cable for it.

I got this solid state drive for my gaming laptop and it is a major upgrade in every way. This is why: The laptop came with a 512GB M2 drive and a spare 2.5" bay. I wanted to run the OS off the Samsung and use the M2 drive for adding games. I thought this would be difficult at first but it was not, and boy was it rewarding. You will need to have the adapters to plug in the SSD to clone your existing disk. I downloaded the Samsung drive cloning software, plugged in the SSD and copied the main hard drive. This took about 4 hours start to finish with no errors. It then renders the old drive obsolete. I removed the M2 drive and booted up the laptop, voila! It started up with no issues, I was now booting up off the Samsung SSD, awesome! I then put the M2 stick back in its bay to format as a storage drive. It took my computer 2 restarts to recognize it, but it finally did (not Samsung's fault). I formatted it and set up as a D drive. I now have 1.5GB of solid state disk space! I love it because now I can download a bunch of games I got while quarantined without fear of filling up my hard drive. I highly recommend this drive, it is large, fast, and an instant upgrade. I love it!

For a SATA connection on an older motherboard (laptop or desktop), this is a great performance booster with an acceptable dollar/gigabyte ratio. This is not a top-end SSD from Samsung - it will allow much fewer rewrites than a hard disk or high end SSD. If you write to it a lot for a year, you will slowly lose storage capacity as the drive controller deactivates overused memory cells (think, like capacitors wearing out), but I am using it to hold video games that I will mostly be reading from the SSD - and for that, it is great.
