This Samsung 2TB SSD 980 pro on my Asus rog maximus XII extreme MOBO is not working properly and causing issues !!! Samsung magician will not recognize it I will return it !!! shame on Samsung for not having a driver for it ! No wonder it is on sale !!!!!

Didn’t work. Apparently there’s an upgrade that has to be done in PC that I don’t have in order to make it work for a PS5

Purchased a new SSD. I received a used SSD that has errors. It doesn’t work.

Drive went bad in a year and a half with little use. Would not recommend.

I already had a 970 Pro and jumped at getting the 980 Pro. This is backward compatible to a 3 interface and still has decent speed. Samsung has always been my go to for SSD and Memory when it comes to upgrading. One of the few manufactures that provides cloning software that is easy to use. Obviously if your considering this product I suggest you make sure your machine build is compatible, but most who want this already know what goes into an upgrade. One thing I did run into was on the first boot, there was a No Boot File found, You just have to be patient and realize your machine is still looking for the old drive. All I had to do is shut down and reboot and all was ok. Speed is great, every working to specifications based on the machine your installing this into. The only other thing I could not accomplish without a lot of time investment is using that Samsung driver, PC still holds onto the Microsoft Driver. However, Samsung Magician will still maintain it any way.

I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased review. If you want fast storage that’s reliable, the Samsung 980 Pro Series is it. Using a Ryzen 5800X on a B550 motherboard with PCIe 4.0 NVMe compatibility, I got reads a little better than 7100 MBps and writes at nearly 5300 MBps. It does get a little warm while being pushed to this limit, however, so make sure you use a heat sink of some kind with it. I also tried it out in my Ryzen 5500u-powered laptop, which used Zen 2 architecture and PCIe 3.0 NVMe, I pegged reads and writes at 3600 MBps each. Samsung’s software also makes firmware updates on this drive easy. Recommended? Yes, as long as you either have or plan on upgrading to something with PCIe 4.0, as the cost isn’t justified in a PCIe 3.0 system.

I picked this beast up today at my local Best Buy. It boosted my PC benchmark from 50s to 85 percentile! This is a great bang for buck! Highly recommended. Since my old SSD held my OS and was my boot drive, I used the AOMEI software to clone the old drive to the new. Don’t forget Tobago into bios and change the boot drive to this new one and disable the other. It was easy!

Timing couldn’t be better to get this ultra-fast LARGE 2TB PCIE 4.0 NVMe SSD. My current laptop’s drive was running out of space. It’s nice to not have to worry about having to delete anything. The best part though are the blazing fast speeds! I haven’t run any benchmark tests, but I can tell a huge difference from what I had in my HP Spectre and this one! I don’t have any other PCIe 4.0 components so full listed speeds aren’t going to happen, but still faster than what I had. So grateful I got it though it is a bit on the pricey side.

The Samsung - 980 PRO 2TB PCIE 4.0 x4 NVMe Gen4 Internal Gaming SSD M.2 is blazing. Though I still have to setup/build a gaming rig with a PCIE 4.0 compatibility for my son. I did try it on his HP Pavilion i5 gaming laptop with only PCIE 3.0. (For those wondering this will work on older motherboards, these SSDs are backwards compatible.) First, I installed the RAM card on an enclosure and used is as an external drive. Transfer rates average at 95mbps whereas our backup ssd external drives have a transfer rate of a maximum of 48mbps. Then using Samsung’s data migration tool, I was able to clone 240gb of data from our gaming laptop to this drive for roughly an hour (or roughly 4gb per minute). Once done, I have noticed that the SSD was extremely hot. So I then had to purchase a 1 mm copper heatsink with thermal tape. I then installed it to our laptop and boot times was extremely fast. My estimate was not over thirty seconds perhaps less. (I just counted and our previous SSD boots in within a minute or so.) Using Samsung Magician, I observed the temperature of the SSD was at 46C (34C upon startup) with the heatsink on which is still considered as normal. I would guess that without the heatsink installed, the temperature would be around 60-70C. The speed of this SSD is still not yet maximized as I have not yet made a PCIe 4.0 based gaming rig. But it sure is definitely fast. One thing to note that at this point in time it is quite expensive as it still considered bleeding edge. Add the fact that there is a chip shortage as of time due to the pandemic hence really increasing the price. That said I would still recommend this SSD but I would also recommend it that you use it on a PCIe 4.0 compatible motherboard to fully maximize its potential.

The install was amazingly easy and the increase in speeds were about double in sequential reads. I do have a motherboard with GEN 4 PCIE, if you DO NOT have GEN 4 PCIE then you will not experience the faster speeds. I definitely notice the speeds with photoshop as it is opening heavily edited projects that i am working on. As you can see i have attached a screenshot of a GEN 3 NVME compared to the GEN 4 NVME and it is quite the upgrade.

So I have a new gaming rig I built last year, but was using an old Samsung NVME SSD (the 980 pro) which only is PCI 3. While it still works amazingly well, I wanted something that would utilize the new PCI 4 capability of my computer. I have a Ryzen 5600X as well and needed something to pair nicely with this. This Samsung NVME drive hits the sweet spot in meeting that mark. I will admit, I did have issues getting my motherboard to properly read the PCI 4 on all 4 lanes, I had to troubleshoot and found that it was because I swapped it out from PCI3 to 4 in that NVME slot on my mobo, so it confused it, I had to just remove all NVME drives out my computer, boot it, then reseat and voila. After everything was settled, I used the Samsung data migration tool to migrate my old NVME to the new one. To clone about 500gb of data, it only took 11 minutes which is incredibly fast. After it was up and running, the benchmarks blew my mind. Getting about 7000 read 5200 write on a constant basis. But honestly, in terms of boot time, not a big difference between PCI3 and 4, and same with loading times of applications. But in terms of game load times, a slight improvement, and also when working with large sets of data to transfer, this thing blows PCI3 cards out of the water. If you do a lot of gaming, video editing, music production, or just want a future proof massive NVME drive, then this is the drive for you.

Super fast drive. Samsung is always a great choice for M.2 drives a bit pricey but they are on sale right now . Make sure you update the firmware after installing they had a few issue when these first released. Mine had the newest firmware already.

I have always been a fan of Samsung SSDs. This one is no exception. PCIE 4.0 offers a new level of speed for gaming. I plan to eventually use this inside of my PS5 since it was announced as one of the supported drives. Unfortunately, the support for external drives does not exist at this time. Currently using this drive in my gaming PC and it offers unreal speeds. There is not a lot to say about it except that the 2TB size offers plenty of space and speed to play any game you could imagine. Samsung offers great software that you can download to help setup and manage the drive as well. It does not come with any huge heat syncs which allows it to fit into practically any M.2 slot. I would highly recommend this drive to anyone looking for more storage and speed for their gaming setup. This drive would also be a great option for anyone who does a lot of photo or video editing.

This drive will remind you of when you took the leap and switched that first SSD in for your old spinning hard drive! It is so fast, I am still amazed at how much of a change it made over my existing SSD. I also appreciate the size increase also, going from a 128GB to 2TB makes such a huge difference as well. Overall, I am very happy with everything but the price, but that is the cost of getting the results I have seen! I am running this on an ASUS ROG laptop and am very happy with the upgrade. Now I have to save up to upgrade my other laptop, the size makes it so much more useful! I just hope the price comes down a bit before I get to that point. I would absolutely recommend this drive for anyone needing cutting edge speed and space to relax a bit... just wish Windows didn't demand so much space without tweaking it!

Samsung has been a trusted name in SSDs for some time now. It should be no surprise that the 980 Pro is an absolute beast of an SSD. When I finally got my hands on this, I knew I’d be able to finally dump my two disk setup of a single 256GB OS m.2 ssd and my larger/slower sata SSD for games. Installation is easy as expected and I dropped in a clean Windows install within minutes. This was my first Gen 4 M.2 drive and I couldn’t wait to test out performance. Not surprisingly, the drive hit advertised speeds of over 6,000MB/s read and about 5,000MB/s writes in my tests. Performance is great, size is perfect – perfect for every desktop build or laptop upgrade!

Its a good drive. Fast. I use it for games. I do not use a heat sink. Hasn't been an issue. Yet...
